Love the Resi series, and I can't wait for number 6 (or 9, if you wanna get all technical...). This is a hell of a year for the franchise, with part 6, Revelations, Operation Racoon City, and two films...us Capcom horror fans are being spoilt!
If Resident Evil 6 does come to Wii U, I'd like to see no. 5 included, seeing as it's the only main entry not yet experienced by Nintendo fans.
Let me guess, now it's time for the "SONY ARE TEH DOOMED!!1!11" spiel, I'm guessing?
Don't worry, Sony fans. It'll turn around, just like the PS3.
Still, I'm happy about the 3DS doing so much better now. Nintendo nabbing Monster Hunter (and Dragon Quest for Wii/Wii U) is a serious blow to Sony. It'll be interseting to see how the house of Playstation copes with that...
@5 - Yeah, I also have a lot of sentimental love for Rare. I still remember obsessively playing a demo of Banjo-Kazooie at my local electronics store...before being told to get out, lol.
Unfortunately, Rare isn't the same developer of the good old N64 days. The Stamper Brothers left a while back, as well as a lot of the original staff. Nintendo must have saw some decline within the company...I don't know why else they would sell their share to Microsoft (well, aside from the whole '$375 million' thing...)
I have the original in my Xbox 360 HDD - and I really quite enjoy it! A sequel would be great!
@4 - Yeah, I was also bummed that there were no Shenmue tracks...imagine driving around a Shenmue 2 Hong Kong!
@33 - Well, the reason why Sonic had a car was because SEGA actually tried to make him run - but it didn't gel well with the other racers. In the game's storyline, Sonic had a car because it was 'fair' to the other characters - he is simply too fast on foot.
@42 - While there no doubt will be a bunch of unimaginative rubbish Wii U software from 3rd parties, I'm also extremely excited at the new gameplay opportunities this console will provide! After watching that awesome video, just imagine what developers such as Suda51, Level-5, Hideo Kojima and Prope (and of course, Nintendo) will be able to do!
The graphics on Wii U are mighty nice, but what impresses me the most is the fluid, no-lag interactivity between the tablet and TV. People who bemoan the fact that the console won't be as powerful as PS4 and Xbox Next aren't seeing the bigger picture; Nintendo's major tech has been invested toward TV & tablet connectivity, as well as the multiple-video streaming and smooth user interface. If Nintendo combined that with Super-Ultra High Definition power of their competitors, the cost of the Wii U would be insane.
I for one am glad they chose innovation over raw (arguably unnecessary) power. I mean, was I the only one who found Epic Games' 'Samaritan' demo the most boring thing ever? Wow, you can now see the pores on a guy's skin, whoop-de-doo...
@6 - It's not entirely clear what kind of ID system Nintendo will use for the Wii U. There was even a rumour that EA would handle the entire online servers on behalf of Nintendo!
Personally, I hope Nintendo adopt the 'account' system like Sony and Microsoft. I don't like the idea of having all my purchases dependent on one console...i.e, if it breaks, say goodbye to everything.
"Episode II unfortunately will not be coming to the Wii - for reasons most people have probably guessed"
Well, just humour me Mr. Balough...what reasons would they be?
It's not like SEGA should owe Nintendo anything...After all, Sonic games only tend to do better on Nintendo platforms, and the Mario & Sonic games only sold a measly 15 million copies...
I've always preferred the 'mystery' of the Zelda timeline. Much like Final Fantasy, I've always liked the fact that each Zelda game is its own independent story (aside from direct sequels, obviously).
Some of these responses in this thread are truly LOL-worthy
This very disappointing - especially considering Nintendo's track-record with well-polished software. Between this and Metroid: Other M, I certainly hope Wii U will download patches more efficiently than the Wii.
@8 - It's weird, but instances of patching (and DLC) on Wii have been evident in titles like Call of Duty and Conduit, yet I've seen claims that the console is incapable of the 'regular' patching seen on PS3 and Xbox 360 (like the piece of fan art that accidentally made its way onto SEGA All-Stars Racing).
According to an article I read once, the Wii's architecture makes patches difficult and cumbersome, as the console is incapable of erasing the 'garbage' that is supposed to fixed - and that patches merely 'cover them up' - so to speak.
Obviously Mario was going to do well, as it's the first AAA 3DS-exclusive title - but I'm stoked to hear that Zelda is doing great considering the Wii is slowing down now...never doubt the power of Robin Williams' beard!
@27 - Start with the originals; pick up the Sonic Classic Collection on DS (it has 1, 2 & 3 plus Sonic & Knuckles), as well as the Sonic Rush titles. You can get Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 pretty cheap for Gamecube if you want an introduction to the 3D titles.
...but for Pete's sake, don't touch Sonic the Hedgehog 2006!
Oh, and I found this interesting;
"Just as Sonic Unleashed on Wii was pared-down next to its HD sibling..."
Not having played the HD versions of Unleashed, I need to ask James; was the Wii version actually inferior? Because many outlets have actually scored the Wii/PS2 versions higher than the PS3/Xbox 360 titles. They even have higher Metacritic scores!
...Oh, yeah, Sonic Generations...w00t w00t, and all that.
EDIT: @56 - Jeez... a 7 is not "measley" - it is good. 5 is average, understand?
Still, the lack of colour can make traversing the environments quite difficult, as it's hard to differentiate areas. Overall, though, this is an impressive Game Boy game!
"Miyamoto calls his ability to identify small changes in a game's feel as his "special talent""
Completely and utterly 100% agree with this. When it comes to handling the 'feel' of a videogame, Miyamoto-san is without equal.
As for Super Mario 64 - it is one of the greatest games of all time, hands down (and one of my personal faves). Moving Mario around back in 1996 was nothing short of revolutionary (and made the PSX look very inadequate by comparison!).
Ah, so once again, a new Mario game is revealed and haters whine about it being 'too safe' and that Nintendo have 'lost the magic'.
Don't these people ever get tired of being wrong?
In my opinion, Super Mario 3D Land isn't as 'safe' as it seems; there are some fairly controversial new features, such as the 'run' button, and the 'back to basics' approach that straddles the line between 2D & 3D.
Either way, this game looks awesome...shame I won't have time to play it till Christmas
@11 - That's the big thing when it comes to DLC - that fine line between releasing meaningful and great value new content as opposed to the cynical practice of siphoning more cash from the gamers. Unfortunately, 99% of the time it's the latter...DLC and the over-reliance on patches have simply spiraled out of control on the HD consoles; it's sickening. Almost every game now has content deliberately locked away on the disc that can only be accessed by online codes or simply paying more money (and don't get me started on the whole shameful 'pre-order' market today). On top of that, many developers don't even bother to released a finished game...
Unlike most people, I was happy that the Wii shied away from DLC because it forced developers to release the WHOLE GAME - y'know, like they're supposed to in the first place.
I have no doubt greedy publishers will abuse the 3DS DLC system (Capcom, EA, Activision, etc) - but I have faith in Nintendo to do the right thing. The creative branch of the company (Miyamoto, et al) have a lot of integrity when it comes to offering the consumer the best value; not to mention that they're passionate about their games and likely will not want them 'tarnished' by shoddy DLC.
@85 - "Nintendo focused on casuals is even worse" - First of all, did you even see my list? There have been plenty of 'core' games by Nintendo. Secondly, how was Nintendo expanding the videogame market and saving it from stagnation bad? This is what Nintendo have always done - disruption and adaptation. The 'casuals' have every right to be called gamers just as much as the so-called 'hardcore' (both oxymoronic terms if I ever heard them).
"Sales numbers, at least with Nintendo, means little."
Erm...you DO know who Nintendo are, don't you? You know, the same company who's American President has a pie-chart fetish? The same company who's CEO and VP both took a 50% & 30% pay-cut respectively due to the 3DS sales?
I'd love to see an unlockable Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo in their 'Mario Bros. Plumbing' van. Their special move would be Hoskins complaining about the price of water in the Mushroom Kingdom.
@73 - I can't deny the 3rd party and online situations - they ARE better on PS3 and Xbox 360, you're right about that.
@75 - Well, each to his own. Personally, as a gamer, I DO care about how many units are sold, because it's an indicator of how well my purchased console is doing - if it sells a lot (i.e. enough to keep the company in business), then I'm comfortable in the knowledge that my purchased product will continue to receive support - and not die-off. I'm sure there were plenty of Dreamcast fans who said sales didn't bother them...
@78 - Interesting. It's actually the opposite for me - I have plenty of Wii games to play, but I haven't played an Xbox 360 game in ages. Usually my multi-format games are played on the PS3, and Microsoft have almost no exclusives I like (maybe Halo...but that's it). Still, I'm genuinely interested in the Kinect more than anything 'traditional' that is being churned out by M$. I've actually been a supporter of Microsoft's camera tech since day one (even if it IS an obvious response to the Wii), and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.
But really, 'attractive games' is entirely subjective. I prefer the majesty of Super Mario Galaxy or Skyward Sword over the tech-heavy Battlefield 3 and Crysis - but hey, that's just me.
@1 - Seconded! In a way, E3 2012 will see the unveiling of another Nintendo console - the Wii U could end up being THAT different...
...or the same, either way, I'm happy!
@70 - the HD improvement they have SHOWN. Nintendo have confirmed the Wii U will run at 1080p. Also, I'm quite happy the machine will possibly be delayed - it just gives the 3DS more room to shine (plus it lets me finish my stack of unfinished games...).
@Sir_Dragoon - Ah, but what IS a videogame, exactly? It can be anything really - and I say good on Nintendo for attempting to break down stereotypes and refusing the game market to stagnate.
@SimonB79 - "they just cant compete with the 2 big boyz". What in Buddha's name are you talking about? Wii & DS sales: 71 & 149 million respectively, PS3 & PSP: 52 & 71 million, and Xbox 360: 58 million sales. How is that 'not keeping up'? There is one thing that is always clear - when it comes to innovation, Nintendo are the leaders, and Sony & Microsoft are the followers (just ask PS Move and Kinect).
Oh, and the Wii has no games?
Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 New Super Mario Bros. Wii Mario Kart Wii Zelda: Twilight Princess & Skyward Sword No More Heroes 1 & 2 Super Smash Bros. Brawl Metroid Prime Trilogy & Metroid: Other M Little King's Story Resident Evil 4, Umbrella Chronicles & Darkside Chronicles Conduit 1 & 2 (...well, I liked 'em) COD: Black Ops, Modern Warfare 1, 3 & World at War Goldeneye 007 Donkey Kong Country Returns Kirby's Epic Yarn & Return to Dreamland Epic Mickey Wario Land: Shake It! & Warioware: Smooth Moves Okami Xenoblade Chronicles Bully Rock Band 3 Fatal Frame IV New Play Control PIKMIN 1 & 2 MySims Zack & Wiki Monster Hunter Tri Geometry Wars Galaxies Grand Slam Tennis Murumasa: Demon Blade Wii Music (criminally misunderstood) Guitar Hero 5 Endless Ocean 1 & 2 Rune Factory: Frontier Boom Blox: Bash Party Super Paper Mario DJ Hero De Blob 1 & 2 Sin & Punishment: Star Successor Family Ski and Snowboard LEGO Harry Potter LEGO Star Wars Rabbids Go Home Trauma Team Red Steel 1 & 2 Wii Sports Resort Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Punch Out!! A Shadow's Tale Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Plus MadWorld House of the Dead: Overkill Ghost Squad Cursed Mountain Disaster: Day of Crisis Sonic and the Secret Rings, Colo(u)rs & Unleashed Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Dead Space: Extraction Deadly Creatures Go Vacation The Last Story Pandora's Tower Mario & Sonic 1, 2 & 3
@DrCruse - well, Mario Kart Wii has sold 28 million units, and New Super Mario Bros. DS & Wii have sold 26 & 22 million respectively...and I'm pretty sure those games ALSO faced the 'Mario is stale' scrutiny that is so prevalent whenever the portly plumber rears his head...
More awesome news to add to the 3D video pizazz! I hope Nintendo and other devs really take advantage of the DLC platform (without price gouging...though it will happen knowing Capcom). Imagine if Nintendo surprised us and released a whole new land to play in on Ocarina of Time! Hey, I can dream...
I'm not too fussed on the whole demo thing; as I already know what games I like to buy. Still, aside from that, the 'timed' aspect really won't be all that bothersome, IMO. Really, it's a clever way to rope customers in. Nintendo: "You really like that demo and want to play it again? Well, the only way to do that is buy the shiny full version..."
@legodavid15 - Was gonna say the same thing. I think Ono specifically stated that he'd like to make the 'Arcade Edition' content available for the 3DS via DLC. I certainly hope so - there's no way I'm buying another boxed copy of the same game...
I'm pretty sure Capcom have also mentioned a desire to create Resident Evil: Mercenaries DLC.
Great news from the Big N. Contrary to the anti-Nintendo crowd out there, the 3DS isn't going anywhere.
On that note; what is it with this sudden obsession with wanting Nintendo to die? It seems there's this never-ending vendetta towards the Japanese company by the moronic 'hardcore' crowd simply because they dared to make Wii Music.
A lot of reviewers can't seem to get it in their heads that the Kirby games are supposed to be for kids and less advanced gamers (none of that 'casual' rubbish) - and Return to Dreamland looks to do the series proud.
Personally, I'm not the pink-puffball's biggest fan - but my brother really enjoys the series (and he's 23!). It provides a nice break from the more intense, rage-inducing titles out there!

Re: Review: Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (3DS)
I'll stick with the Wii version, thank you very much.
I knew I wasn't going to get this once I learnt about how rough you need to be with the 3DS in order to play it.
Destroying my N64 control stick with Mario Party was enough thanks SEGA...

Oh, and Waluigi's presence is mandatory.

Re: Wii U Panorama View Demo is Awesome

@1 - Seconded! In a way, E3 2012 will see the unveiling of another Nintendo console - the Wii U could end up being THAT different...
...or the same, either way, I'm happy!
@70 - the HD improvement they have SHOWN. Nintendo have confirmed the Wii U will run at 1080p. Also, I'm quite happy the machine will possibly be delayed - it just gives the 3DS more room to shine (plus it lets me finish my stack of unfinished games...).
Re: Nintendo Developing New Game Genres to Revitalise 3DS

Re: Iwata: We Want 3DS Sales to Show Consoles are Here to Stay
@DrCruse - well, Mario Kart Wii has sold 28 million units, and New Super Mario Bros. DS & Wii have sold 26 & 22 million respectively...and I'm pretty sure those games ALSO faced the 'Mario is stale' scrutiny that is so prevalent whenever the portly plumber rears his head...
Bottom line is - Mario is good.
Re: Iwata Reveals Big New Improvements for eShop
Re: 3DS Hardware Sales Show Big Improvements
Great news from the Big N. Contrary to the anti-Nintendo crowd out there, the 3DS isn't going anywhere.
On that note; what is it with this sudden obsession with wanting Nintendo to die? It seems there's this never-ending vendetta towards the Japanese company by the moronic 'hardcore' crowd simply because they dared to make Wii Music.
Re: You Don't Just Play as Mario in Super Mario 3D Land
Still waiting for playable Birdo...(crosses fingers)
Re: Review: Kirby's Return to Dream Land (Wii)
A lot of reviewers can't seem to get it in their heads that the Kirby games are supposed to be for kids and less advanced gamers (none of that 'casual' rubbish) - and Return to Dreamland looks to do the series proud.
Personally, I'm not the pink-puffball's biggest fan - but my brother really enjoys the series (and he's 23!). It provides a nice break from the more intense, rage-inducing titles out there!
Re: Rumour: Monster Hunter 3 G Lurching Toward Europe
Geez, I've barely even grazed the surface of Monster Hunter Tri! So many games to play...
Re: We Wish These Mario 3DS Consoles Weren't Japan Only
@Morpheel - Lol, I concur.
A Waluigi 3DS though...that would scare off any thieves. Waaa!!!
@SMEXIZELDAMAN - No, you just go into the drawing to win them.
Re: 3DS Gets Official Plans for Hulu Plus and 3D Video Recording
Well...at least the Aussie Wii still has the Kirby cartoon!
