Re: Live Action Zelda Video Has Poe Trouble

Kage_88

@0LD_SK0OL_PUNK - I was gonna say the same thing. The Link outfit looked like a dodgy cosplay, and the shield looked as though it was never used.

Still, besides that, I was actually very impressed with the film!

Re: Capcom Hopes to Expand Fighting Game Audience

Kage_88

"I know some competitive players will scoff..."

Not only do I hope they scoff - but I hope they drown in a sea of their own fanboy tears. The 'hardcore' fighting game community are the whiniest, loathsome 'fans' out there.

Re: WWE 13 Won't Wrestle with Wii U

Kage_88

@LordJumpMad - I don't know what WWE you're watching, but in terms of balance between storylines and in-ring action, it's still the same. In fact, I would argue that the storylines have improved (in terms of 'realism') over some of the garbage that occured in the Attitude Era.

Despite all that though, I AM generally sick of the WWE product (except when I'm watching CM Punk & Daniel Bryan). Lately, I've been enjoying TNA and ROH far more.

As for WWE '13...honestly, I couldn't care less. THQ's titles are beyond stale now. It says a lot when the 2007 TNA game STILL has better graphics!

Re: Namco's Harada: Smash Bros. Design is Sakurai's Job

Kage_88

I would imagine there would be a couple of Namco-Bandai characters, as a 'thanks' by Nintendo for helping Sakurai.

In my opinion, Pacman should be the highest priority for inclusion - not only would he fit well with the roster, he's also Namco's mascot and one of the most popular (and influencial) characters of all time. Also, let's not forget Pacman VS., which was partialy produced by Miyamoto, and the Mario Kart arcade titles (which also had the pill muncher).

If they get to have another character added, then it'll probably be from a Namco game that is highly popular (and have some ties to Nintendo's past). My first thought is Soul Calibur...but I really can't think of any character that stands out as the 'mascot' of the series (maybe Mitsurugi or Seigfried).

Re: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Races to Over 20 Characters

Kage_88

@Miroku - It's NOT a rip-off of Mario Kart...it's a rip-off of Diddy Kong Racing

Exclusive characters again? Jeez, now I'll have to really think about which version to get...for the Nintendo platforms, I think Mario would be a boring choice (though I wouldn't complain if it were the case). I'd go with someone like Captain Falcon or Fox McCloud (characters that are heavily associated with vehicles).

Re: Michael Pachter Doubts 3DS XL's Powers of Revival

Kage_88

Here we go again...

"The larger [3DS] format is not all that compelling for the consumer, and although I think the XL will help sales, I don’t think that the impact will revive weak sales of handhelds overall."

Wait...don't people buy yearly iterations of the iPad and iPhone? Both of which are absurdly expensive?

Say what you want about his 'credentials' - but Pachter is just a professional guesser - that's it (and one who is wrong 99% of the time). I mean Christ, any old mook can make a prediction about a console's sales.

Okay? Here's mine: I predict that the 3DS and Wii U will thrive in the marketplace based on the sales peformances of past Nintendo hardware, which have a history of farting gleefuly in their skeptics' faces.

Pachter is a parasite. He's talked about how Nintendo's stock has decreased by 80% in the last few years, before admitting that HE himself advises investers because "none have made a profit owning Nintendo stock". Conveniently, these 'last few years' have tied into Pachter's rise to prominence, and the reason (IMHO) Nintendo's stock has been struggling is because people like Pachter - who like to offer quick, decisive results - spread their BS to investors looking for reassurance like spolit babies.

Now, I'm not saying that Pachter is an assassin looking to kill Nintendo (as his skepticism regarding the Vita shows) - but he IS an idiot, plain and simple. He has claimed that the Wii U is "dead" because of the Xbox and Kinect (and that Nintendo is in a "disarray"), that the Wii "casual" audience was forever lost to Facebook and other mobile gaming (despite the fact that Zynga posted its first ever losses in a muted 2012 for social gaming).

  • sigh *

I know it seems like I'm playing the General of the Nintendo Defense Force... but - jeez - these days, it seems like it's a role I've been forced to undertake, due to the sheer ignorance and stupidity I see almost everyday regarding Nintendo haters and critics. I know, I shouldn't be THIS angry over the besmirchment of a rich gaming company's intergrity...but I just do not suffer fools.

Re: Fan Group 'Operation Zero' Attempts to Scare Nintendo of America

Kage_88

Jesus, I'm sick of people whining (in general...no-one specific on this site).

Europe/Australia have missed out on a lot of great games over the years. Granted, the internet wasn't really prominent during the SNES/N64 days - so we really didn't have an outlet to voice our frustrations...but come on.

Yes, it sucks that Nintendo isn't bringing certain titles to the US...but the fact that you get up in arms and start campaigns/petitions over EVERY game that you don't get is self-entitled and brattish. For goodness sake, this is Project Zero...how many copies would it actually sell? Next to nothing, judging on past 3rd party Wii titles.

Just let it go.

Re: Satoru Iwata: 'We Have Not Changed Our Strategy'

Kage_88

Power is important, definitely. I love gorgeous visuals, clever AI, huge worlds, and interactive playing-fields as much as the next guy.

But, Nintendo (and myself) believes that games can be so much more than clutching a joypad and staring at a 50 inch LED all day (or mindlessly clicking a mouse *cough*Diablo III*cough).

'Disruption' - that's the key word that Iwata and co. have been espousing. Even if it pisses so many 'hardcore' gamers off, Nintendo will not stop experimenting with new ways of delivering the videogame experience. The traditional experience is stagnating - basically unchanged for 30 years - and Nintendo realises this (ironic, considering they were the ones who established the 'joypad' system of today's games). Sony and Microsoft are following Nintendo's footsteps (what else is new...) with their own 'disruptions' such as PS Mobile/PS Move and SmartGlass/Kinect (which are, I maintain, reactions to the Wii U/Wii).

The industry needs change. The sooner the unbearable 'real gamers' understand this, the better.

Re: Satoru Iwata: 'We Have Not Changed Our Strategy'

Kage_88

"We have not changed our strategy. In other words, we just do not care what kind of 'more beef' console Microsoft and Sony might produce in 2013. Our focus is on how we can make our new console different than [others]."

Good on ya, Iwata!

Re: Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on Wii U to Have 'Nintendo Like' Features

Kage_88

I have a feeling that Harada's comments about the Xbox 360 and PS3's online and customisation reflects the current lack of knowledge regarding Wii U's online services - rather than implying that it wil be 'inferior' to the competition.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will likely be out at launch - and I imagine that the Nintendo Network won't have a strong presence in the initial weeks of the console's availability (though I'd be glad if I was wrong).

Re: SEGA Wants Sonic to be the Next Hello Kitty

Kage_88

@3DSonicPizza - Great, non-fanboyish contribution there. I'm a Sonic fan too, and even I know he's nowhere near as popular as he once was. Unlike Mario, his games have been wildly inconsistent over the last 12 years or so (and the collapse of SEGA didn't help matters).

Still, I appreciate SEGA's enthusiasm and dedication though. Maybe they'll pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat, and accomplish their goal.

Re: Project Sora Disbanded

Kage_88

Not too much of a tragedy, considering all the developers (I imagine) will still be around.

Sakurai will still be capable of making awesome games!

Re: Square Enix: Nintendo Works With a 'Different Perspective'

Kage_88

That's why I respect Nintendo so much - because they march to the beat of their own drum - and no amount of peer pressure will change that.

I mean, really, what would be the point if they did the same things Sony and Microsoft do right now?

Nintendo are disrupters...and disruption is always interesting!

@Araknie - Welcome, fella!

Re: Site News: James Finds a Warp Zone

Kage_88

Congratulations James!

During my time here, I've always respected your good-natured humour and your professionalism when reporting on the big, Nintendo-flavoured events.

Now, you may be starting as a junior online editor for Nintendo of Europe...but before you know it, you'll be the head of the entire thing!

Again, congrats.

Re: First Impressions: Wii U Panorama View

Kage_88

The possibilities are dazzling. I can't wait to see how Nintendo will incorporate this tech into their games (as well as othe inventive devs like Hideo Kojima, Suda51 and the indie folk).

It'd be great for an on-rails title...Starfox, anyone?

Re: Iwata Expects Wii U to Last a Generation

Kage_88

Gosh...what can I say that hasn't been said a million times before?

Yeah, the PS4/Xbox Next will be more powerful than the Wii U...but I think it'll be nowhere near the gap that Wii faced with the PS3/Xbox 360. In terms of visuals, I think what hurt Wii more was the fact that it wasn't HD (rather than the weaker hardware). As evidenced by games like Mario Galaxy and Skyward Sword, Nintendo really know how to make 'weak' hardware really sing.

Now that Wii U supports HD (and assuming that the other consoles will, as well); will the difference in power REALLY make that much of a difference this time around? Also, we must remember that the Wii U is capable of streaming 3 seperate images at once - that alone would really tax the console (and considering that fact, I'm impressed with the visuals it can still display).

Of course, power doesn't just mean 'grafix' - but also physics, AI, larger game worlds, etc. This is where the next-gen consoles will really be a threat, IMO. However, with astronomical development costs and a smaller margin for profit, how much money would Sony and Microsoft be willing to spend for their machines' power? Profit trumps all (despite what graphics snobs think), and I think these two companies are seriously considering how they can make their products evolve beyond a simple power upgrade. Move and Kinect display a willingness to follow in Nintendo's footsteps in regards to new input-methods and game delivery (as is also evident in SmartGlass and Sony's purchase of Gakai).

In other words, I belive innovation - not 'power' - will be the primary focus of next gen.

Re: Wii Has Featured Fewer New IPs Than Rivals

Kage_88

@H_Hunter: 'IP' stands for 'Intellectual Property'

My issue is - what exactly constitutes an 'original' IP?

Endless Ocean
Excitetruck & Excitebots
The Last Story
Xenoblade
Pandora's Tower
Fling Smash
Mario & Sonic
Wii Fit
Wii Sports
Wii Party
Wii Music

Yeah, Gamespot can eff off

Re: Feature: Wario is Missing?

Kage_88

@54 - That is awesome! Old Simpsons FTW.

I've always thought Wario was a great character - simply because he's a darker Nintendo creation who doesn't care about anyone but himself.

Game & Wario will be great, I'm sure, but I would LOVE to see a new 2D Wario platformer that apes the art style of Rayman Legends. Maybe a Wii U sequel to Shake Dimension?

Oh, and there's Nintendo's greatest crime of all...

Waluigi still hasn't got his own game!!! Waaahhhh!!!

Re: Takuya Matsumoto: 'Nintendo Influence Was Big' on The Last Story

Kage_88

@LollipopChoSaw - Paper Mario & Earthbound say hi.

As for Last Story, I'm about 30 hours in, and I'm enjoying it immensely (and this is coming from someone who usually avoids JRPGs). Oh, and according to the reviews, I think a lot of people will disagree with you, LollipopChoSaw.

I'm glad Mistwalker dared to innovate the battle system, as well as streamlining (not 'dumbing down') the genre's normally-fiddly features.

Oh, and the visuals are great (both in terms of art style and tech).

Personally, I'd give this game a 7 or 8 out of 10.

Oh, and the game IS pretty easy...but meh, I'm still having fun.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime: Fanbase Demands Are 'Insatiable'

Kage_88

Reggie's right, IMO.

Gamers just don't appreciate what they have (and what they're about to be given). Today, it really is a spoilt generation. As soon as a game is released, it's forgotten within a few days in favour of 'MOAR'. In addition, people just want everything ASAP; For E3, people wanted Starfox, Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc...what if Nintendo provided all of that at the show? People would moan that the company is too reliant on their established franchises.

Of course, people are entitled to be dissatisfied - that's a basic right. But the constant just really grates; with people spouting stupid crap that is presented as 'fact', rather than opinion.

I for one cannot be more excited for Wii U.
