Update:
EARTHBOUND!!!
Original Article with updated entry:
It's Monday, and as is now tradition Nintendo Download fans in Europe find out what's on the way in this week's update. There are some long awaited and potentially intriguing arrivals this week, along with a few price reductions to tempt us. Without further ado, let's get to it.
Wii U Virtual Console
Earthbound (Nintendo, €9.99 / £6.99) — Deep breaths everyone, Earthbound is available now. It's had a passionate following demanding its Virtual Console release since the service began on the Wii, but supposed licensing issues seemingly prevented it from arriving on the service. Announced earlier this year with much fanfare it makes a surprise appearance this week, delighting many retro gamers even if it does come in above the standard SNES price band. We'll work on a review of this Wii U Virtual Console release very soon.
Wii U Retail Download
The Smurfs 2 (Ubisoft, €39.99 / £31.99)
Wii U eShop Temporary Discount
Puddle (Neko Entertainment, €4.99 / £4.49 until 1st August, normally €9.99 / £8.99)
3DS eShop
Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale (Level-5, €7.99 / £7.19) — Possibly the most intriguing of the Guild02 titles coming to the eShop, this is a mystery title that'll likely focus on exploration and storytelling above all-else. Has Level-5 saved the best for last in this series? We'll work on a review to let you know.
Robot Rescue 3D (Teyon, €2.99 / £2.69) — The third entry in this puzzle series from Teyon, and the first on 3DS, previous titles have offered tough puzzles at a budget price. This is apparently a MEGA pack of content with some levels from the DSiWare titles and new additions; we'll wrap our head around moving multiple robots at once and bring you a review.
3DS Virtual Console
Shantae (WayForward, €4.99 / £4.49) — Happy news for Europe as, after a bit of a delay from its original release date, this Game Boy Color title from WayForward finally has a confirmed time of arrival. The action / platformer / exploration title, where hair is a very useful weapon, has been on a number of wishlists — DSiWare sequel Shantae: Risky's Revenge was one of the best and most popular games on the service. We'll be whipping our hair back and forth to bring you a review, soon.
Spelunker (Tozai Games, €3.99 / £3.59) — Continuing the recent trend of Wii U Virtual Console releases jumping over to the 3DS equivalent, this is an old-school arcade-style puzzle platformer. In our view its issues of poor design and sloppy controls hold it back in a big way, as we explain in our Wii U Virtual Console Spelunker review.
3DS eShop Demo
The Denpa Men 2: Beyond the Waves (Genius Sonority, free)
3DS eShop Permanent Discount
Virtue's Last Reward (Rising Star Games, €24.99 / £19.99, originally €40.00 / £30.00)
3DS eShop Temporary Discount
Fractured Soul (Endgame Studios, €4.99 / £4.49 until 1st August, normally €7.99 / £7.19)
DSiWare
Fashion Tycoon (MSL, 500 Nintendo Points) — In this title you play as Lilly, who's tasked with designed her way to the top of the Paris fashion world within 45 days. We'll summon our inner fabulous designers and fashion a review for you.
Rabi Laby 2 (Agetec, 200 Nintendo Points) — This DSiWare sequel finally makes its way to Europe, bringing more budget-priced action-puzzle fun to the system. In some ways this feels distinctly like a level pack for the original, but despite that lack of creativity it's still an enjoyable experience, as explained in our Rabi Laby 2 review.

Another great week for 3DS, but Wii U is getting depressing. Not even a new NES game, wow. How hard could it be?
Hmm, I am out of money after buying so many games as of late... Seeing virtues last reward for that price is not healthy for my wallet right now.
3DS makes up for it's poor Virtual Console with enough other quality content.
Wii U has no other content (Smurfs don't count) and choose to release NO Virtual Console games?
puddle & fractured soul for now
I don't understand the complainers. I personally feel that I don't have enough time to play all these great games!
Fingers crossed that Attack of the Friday Monsters turns out to be awesome.
You can only laugh. The Smurfs 2 and a half price Puddle.Could they not of even thrown a 50 HZ Ice Climbers in there, anything really?!
I hope that price drop encourages more people to give VRL a chance.
@Ducutzu zero Wii U games, really? I'm finding time for them right now.
I only weep because I love the GamePad so much, I want to play everything on it. No more 3DS VC purchases for me.
Nintendo must want the Wii U to have a shaky start. The release schedule is pathetic. The VC goes from bad to non-existent and most Wii U owners are desperate to spend some money on good VC games.
Wicked 3DS releases this week.
@Jamouse I hope so too, that one caught my eye amongst the others right at the start. I do like the eShop description of the game though.
I hope Shantae comes to the Aussie 3DS eShop.
Edit: Just checked Aus. Classification website & it was rated a couple of months ago, means it'll be there on Friday for sure
Depends, Waiting for reviews and Miiverse comments but might download Smurfs for my kids, Its a 3rd party title and I'm getting Pikmin and Splintercell for myself over the next few weeks. Being £31 its not a bad price either.
Totally going to pick up Shantae, it's a delightful title and I want to support WayForward's baby.
Loved the GBC original, loved Risky's Revenge on DSiWare, really looking forward to the 3DS sequel.
Also, as usual, where's Cave Story+ already?
Does somebody knows how many block VLR takes ?
Seems everyone's forgotten Donkey Kong (NES) for 30p.
Donkey kong is great!
So, is there any gameplay footage or review of Smurfs 2? It could be interesting...
nothing there interests me to be honest...
although that game thats looks like a copy of 'trials' for xbox looks good
DK was included in last weeks schedule, even though it's not out till today(?!) So technically i will be downloading DK first this week.
Quite tempted by discount on Puddle, looks quite a decent game.
Will get Shantae, but skip Spelunker as i already have it on Wii U VC. Spelunker was discounted to £2.49 on initial release on Wii U VC, which helped my decision to get it - not a great game, but i still got some enjoyment out of it.
I'll get the Denpa Men demo (which I won't like) and further down the line, Virtue's Last Reward and maybe Shantae.
Hoping Attack Of The Friday Monsters is good
Well, well, Virtue's Last Reward's price-drop came just in time.
I will download Smurfs 2 so I can play it with my daughter just like I did with NSMBU & NL.
Anyone got a problem with family gaming... It's awesome teaching the youngsters about better gaming that doesn't involve flicking thumbs on a phone
@Ducutzu
I don't own a 3DS so for me it's a bit of a joke how the wii U is getting hardly any virtual consol releases.
Does any know when we be getting N64 games on virtual console?
Tokyo tales attack of the friday monsters
No wiiu releases? How hard could it possibly be to release swathes of vc content thats already on the wii over to wiiu?! Does nintendo want even its loyal fans to start the hating?
@Ducutzu You really don't understand how people are complaining about the Wii U's barren line-up?!
@BriBri What?! Smurfs is awesome!!!!
Shantae comes to NA this week as well so I will be getting it.
nothing really for me this week
@BriBri The 3ds was the same, just give it time and good vc will come along.
@BriBri Apparently, 30p Donkey Kong today was considered enough for them this week. XD
I doubt we'll see Shantae in our eShop, after all we never saw a release of Risky's Revenge for DSiWare...
Shantae. 5 Bucks? My mouth is drooling.
Nothing this week. But never fear, I still have an Animal Crossing addiction and I've now added Mario & Luigi to that, so I'm covered!
Shantae for me thats for sure, would really love some N64 love for my 3DS though imagine Mario 64 playing with the anaolgue stick it just didn't work on the DS though shame.
I'm going to buy Attack of the Friday Monsters on Thursday when we get it North America. I was thinking of getting the Mii Plaza Games. But still I don't get enough Streetpass hits so will pass on those until the streetpass hits go up. No sense for me on getting those streetpass games when streetpass gets 10 hits a year I really wish it worked better. Would be nice if Nintendo could incorporate your friendslist to the new streetpass games somehow. I wish there was more info on Attack of the Friday Monsters. It seems weird there isn't any kind of Video Preview or Pictures of it in the Eshop with an item description before it's release. It's almost like they don't want to advertise that it's coming out
that price for fractured soul looks tempting, but it is not worth it, it is a very clunky game
@Barbiegurl777 I also have been getting more streetpass hits lately. My best day ever was this past Saturday I got 7 streetpass hits in 1 day I also have Mariokart and have been playing it much more lately as well. The group i'm in plays on Monday Nights at 6pm pacific time Here is the group Number if anyone wants to join 18-6444-7158-4176
I will probably get the New Mii Plaza games as I can never control myself when buying games. At some point I will cave in LOL
The Smufs 2,certainly looks like the Wii U is getting a brilliant week.
Shantae!!!
Looks like its finally time for me to get Fractured Soul!
I am a very patient man, but this lack of anything on Wii U is starting to bug me. How hard can it possibly be to chuck a few NES games onto the VC?
Unless they're planning a massive surprise Nintendo Direct where they announce N64 and GBA games this week, I'm thoroughly unimpressed.
PS. Shantae for the win!
Good week. Shantae is a must have and I'll probably get the discounted Puddle too. Attack of the Friday Monsters seems interesting, but I gotta know something about the gameplay first.
And people wonder why the Wii U is not selling, everything is for 3DS.
@BriBri I do not understand why they do not have more virtual console content... I would think their emulator is already built...
Shantae GET!
I'll be grabbing Raby Laby 2 as well. I'm a big fan of Agetec/Silver Star's E-Shop downloads.
Shantae, Attack of Friday Monsters, Virtue Last reward discounted again and Rabi Laby 2 all the same week?
All things I was wishing for long, but not at the same time @o@;
Oh, how long we had to wait for Shantae. Well I´ll finally get a chance to play the original. When the 3DS one arrives we the whole trilogy, hahaha.
Shantae is a must, maybe Zero Escape as it's now more affordable and I really like the demo. Puddle seems ok for half the price.
Save some money for the US for July 25th according to the eshop Picross e2 is coming out then, I am buying this week Shantae and for 2.99 I will try Robot Rescue 3D. Hope Shantae comes out this week in US. RR3D is according to the games website.
Please Nicalis ask Nintendo to let cave story + for 3DS coming to us poor europeans
Ah, Shantae is coming! And I also may pick up Fractured soul, since it's a discount!
Oh well. Looks like it's "catch up week" for me on the Wii U. :/
Damnit Nintendo, fix the Wii U lineup! 3DS is fine, but I'm so sad looking at the Wii U...
@Beechbone
Deer lord man, get VLR! That price is criminally low for an emotional powerhouse with over 50 hours of life.
Shantae!
Attack of the Friday Monsters!!
Boku no Natsuyasumi is one of the most charming games I've played and this will hopefully be similarly brilliant albeit in a scaled down way
the update news thing says earthbound
Wow what a week. Shantae and Earthbound.
.............Wishes he was was not a poor student
(I got so excited I didn't finish my pot I started an hour ago)
Everybody get Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale NOW.
