Re: Japanese Charts: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Emerges Victorious In A Quiet Week

Here's what Hamaguchi-san had to say about the game's reception via Twitter. (Translation: Thank you very much for the overwhelmingly positive response, not only in Japan but also globally.
In addition to the packaged version, the digital version is also receiving great feedback.
To coincide with the original FFVII release date, the digital version includes the original FINAL FANTASY VII as an early purchase bonus until January 31.
Please take advantage of this opportunity!!"

@RenanLK As someone who has been rooting for this day I have to agree. It IS an outstanding port and they did a great job with it. The game itself is also amazing; I am enjoying every second of it. It is such a rich, compelling tale with interesting characters and a haunting story. It does feel a bit draggy at times, but I am not complaining. The game is so engrossing that I honestly don’t mind.

From Resetera:

“ PS5

  • Small install base
  • PS5 version was a free upgrade (excluding the DLC)

Switch 2

  • 6 year old port
  • higher install base BUT It seems like Square didn't ship many physical copies as they love to do so digital sales might be higher than expected, especially since you get the OG Final Fantasy VII as a 1 week within launch bonus

Also, it's very possible that people that own the Switch 2 also own a PS4/PS5 so the free upgrade thing is irrelevant because some Switch 2 owners also got that deal if they have a PS5.

Overall, it's a good debut to bring back FF gamers to Nintendo and to build up Part 3 which is Square's goal.”

Context is needed here: When FFVII Remake Integrade hit PS5 it netted only about 20000 and IIRC, was at #2. This is a late port, and from what I have heard retailers in Japan supposedly sold out, too. So in essence, this is the most successful release of Integrade, beating the PS5 by 3000.

Square Enix has stated that they want to expand the base for FF on Nintendo platforms, and it will take time. But this is still a solid start all things considered. If Part 3 is a day and date release, too, then imagine what that number will be on Switch 2. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

So before any one starts screaming it bombed, Resetera does not think so, and usually they are pretty harsh. The response I have seen to these sales on there are favorable. Digitally, however, I am sure the game is doing great on all regions.

@marandahir I felt like BotW was the sketchier dub since it was the first time ZELDA had voice acting, but it did have potential. But Tears of the Kingdom was a huge step up in that regard, especially Matt Mercer as Ganondorf (I also liked that the characters had more to say here). But yes, I'd say this one is a continuous step up in quality.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario vs. Donkey Kong Drops To Second As Final Fantasy Makes A Splash

JTurner

@Dr_Lugae Yeah, I have a feeling these games will probably jump ship to Switch 2, provided it can handle it. Both Remake and Rebirth were timed anyway; that hasn't changed. Rebirth's exclusivity will wrap up in May. The WP article was proven to be a mistake, so, any claims of it being "full console exclusive" are shady at best. Both are still timed. The third game will probably follow a similar path, or maybe be multiplat, but it's hard to say at this point.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Has Plans To Revive A "Dead And Buried" Game

@Heavyarms55 No, it's fine. I feel that after my emotional outburst I realized that trying to discourage others doesn't really work well for me. It doesn't make me feel good at all. Furthermore, I am in no position to tell anybody to give up hope on something like this happening. Why should I do that? Just because I've lost faith doesn't mean others should. It's a way of protecting myself. But it would be very disrespectful of me to do the same to others. If it comes, great. If not, well, it'll be disappointing, but FFVII, IX, and potentially the Remixes will make up for that.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Has Plans To Revive A "Dead And Buried" Game

@Heavyarms55
I once had faith that KH3 would happen on Switch. I really did. But after this rumor (which actually may be true considering this guy's credentials), my faith in that happening dropped completely. If you guys want to hope for it to happen, awesome. It would be nice if it did. But at this point I don't have any hope for it anymore. I don't want to get my hopes up so that I end up disappointed.

Just to avoid doing damage, I'll erase some of the posts where I declared that KH3 wouldn't happen on Switch. But you are right, I am in no position to discourage anyone from hoping for it to happen. If anyone wants to, great. I just can't hope for it anymore. Still, there's nothing wrong with hoping for it to happen if you want to, and I won't laugh at any of you. I wanted it to, but it's hard to believe anymore.

Re: Lots Of Developers At Square Enix Want To Make Games For Switch, Says President And CEO

JTurner

@Lthoise You are absolutely right. However, they have to finish the game first before committing to porting. That's fair enough, as they're not finished yet. Heck, we don't even know the release date for KH3, for cying out loud! True, it's not going to launch alongside XB1 or PS4, but a later port is not impossible. It's happened before, and we've seen late ports on Switch perform well. L.A. Noire, Resident Evil Revelations Collection, NBA 2K18, MHXX (in Japan), Skyrim, Doom... all those titles enjoyed success on Switch, regardless of if they were late ports or not. Again, the fact that KH3 uses UE4 and Switch does means it's possible. It can be downscaled. It's a matter of whether it's financially feasible to do so.

Old news, but Nomura DID indicate that he might consider porting KH3 in question after finishing the game. Yes it might need some downgrading, but remember, the game is made with UE4, and Switch runs that.

As for FF7, I'd rather have the PC remaster on Switch at this point rather than the remake; they're taking too damn long with it. Also to say we won't get any mainlines? How do you know, do you work with SE directly? If not then who is to say it won't happen? Heck, Tabata said he was trying to get FFXV on Switch.

Seriously, I see no reason to be skeptical of those two titles yet.
