Can someone at Nintendolife get in touch with SEGA and ask them why they keep doing this and why on earth they are downgrading hanabi titles to run this way when all other hanabi titles run at 60hz?"
Agreed. At least the Hanabi titles should run at 60Hz, since they were never meant to run at 50 (Nintendo always uses 60Hz for those, which makes more sense).
I'll be getting a few of SEGA's Hanabi titles (starting with Pulseman) only if they get an update to fix that.
"Marcel, unfortunately your review doesn't mention the fact that despite this game being a Hanabi import title it has been downgraded for its European PAL release so that it now features borders, runs 17% slower and features squashed graphics."
WHAT? It doesn't run fullspeed in PAL consoles? Yet another game I'm not getting just because of SEGA's stupidity, jeez.
And I agree that it's very important to have this kind of info in these review. I almost get tricked this time.
"Taito has decided not to stick with the bare basics of the original arcade game - aside from the regular coloured bubbles, some stages will also have "guard blocks" and "support blocks" scattered between the bubbles"
...Those blocks are nothing new. More research needed. =P
8 dollars really seem like too much for this game. =(
Sure, you can spend the same amount of cash for something that lasts for just 2 hours but really, what's the point of that comparison? Does that mean it's a "good" investment rather than "better than something"? No.
Don't forget that you can also spend less for longer and more polished Wiiware or VC games. I'm not saying that it's a bad game, but I think it should have been priced at a more modest 500 points.
"46. Fignuts United States 10 Oct 2008, 05:52 GMT Im not confused why people arnt buying, it has some seriously buggy mechanics and can get frustrating quite quick with the glitchy attacking system."
I don't think I've ever found a single "glitch" in this game, and I've been playing it from time to time since it was originally released. I'll go as far as to say that it's one of the most solid and imaginative Mega Drive platformers ever made, and it's one of my all-time favorites.
It was my first VC download, and I was indeed disappointed to see that it didn't run fullspeed in european Wiis and that it also had some sound issues, but only SEGA is to blame for those faulty emulators they're using. This game truly deserves to be bought from the Wii Shop... and then played through some other, more accurate (unofficial) emulator.
Great game, but it shows some awful scroll tearing when in 16:9 mode.
Nothing that can't be fixed by going to the Wii options and selecting 4:3, but it's still an annoying bug for widescreen users, that should be fixed in an update.
(Note: I don't know if this also happens in the NTSC version)
@Quimby: "Of the games i own (Yoshis Island, F-Zero X, SFT2, SSF2, Pokemon Snap, King's Knight, Punch Out, Picross, and Lost Winds) I only deleted Yoshis Island. "
...I don't think I would have bought this game had I read this review before. Fortunately, I got it and I must say it's one of the best versions of Dr. Mario I've played.
Germ Buster is a pretty nice addition (not as "pointless" as it may seem), and online play is amazingly addictive.
"Price wise, maybe, fun wise, depends on if you like the most retarded control setups ever with no classic controller support." It can be controlled quite nicely with the GameCube controller, even if you need to use the analogue.
So, now that's been released... Does it run at 50Hz only, in Europe? Does it allow to turn blood on/off, or any other options? Does it have the original music, or is it from the Neo-Geo CD version?
Tetris Attack is one of my all-time favorites... but not with Pokémon or cute fairies involved.
I won't be getting this, and I still hope they'll be releasing "Tetris Attack" one day. With it, they managed to merge a good game with some Mario characters and environments that everybody could enjoy, not just Pokémon fans or little girls.
In the meanwhile, I'll just keep playing it in the original system and... elsewhere.
Sonic R in Sonic Gems Collection was just a port of the PC version, just like the Sonic CD version they included (with ugly title screen and US soundtrack, but improved FMV)... So it's not emulation, like the VC does.

Re: Review: Smash Table Tennis (Virtual Console / NES)
This game's quite fun, and a classic of its genre. I don't see why it could get such a low score, even though it's a bit expensive.
Re: Review: Heracles: Chariot Racing (WiiWare)
Oh please, no more reviews with a "Will something-or-other...?" question in the subtitle. <=O
You guys can be more original than that.
Re: Karate Phants: Gloves of Glory
How anybody can have hopes in this game goes beyond my imagination.
Re: Nintendo Download: 14-15 July 2009 (JAPAN)
Burning Force arcade is an instant download for me. The MegaDrive port was cool, but didn't look as good without real scaling effects.
Re: What SEGA games do you want to see on the Virtual Console?
Just release Fantasy Zone 2 arcade, please.
Seriously, that game's ace, and even if it's pretty recent, it was made to run in old arcade hardware (the original was a home console exclusive).
EDIT: Oh, and Sonic CD running at 60Hz and with the European/Japanese soundtrack (or else I'm not buying), but it's not gonna happen anyway.
EDIT 2: And Outrunners arcade, not the MegaDrive trash port.

Re: Review: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Wii)
"the Wii version was given a cartoony, super-deformed look to the characters and their surrounding world"
Erm, the characters don't have a "super deformed" look.
No "big heads" in this game.

Re: Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
@Jiggy37
"the VC emulation will probably be a step up above what Sega managed with PSP"
...And why would that be? That wouldn't make much sense.
Also, PAL gamers who buy the VC version will get a slower game.

Another must have.

Re: A Look Inside The Mega Man Boutique
I think the caption for that "No Helmet" item (at the official site) says "Hair Styling Book", instead.
Re: Cybernoid: The Fighting Machine
I loved this game... but the Spectrum and Amstrad versions, I'm not getting this one. =(
Re: Review: Block Breaker Deluxe
I hope we're getting it in Europe this week.
Re: RUMOUR: Mega Man 9 Coming to WiiWare?
I hope they don't swap the Jump and Fire buttons this time.
Re: Eternity’s Child To Feature 4 Player Co-Op Mode
4 player co-op, as in "one player moves the character and other three can shoot stuff on screen with their pointers"?
Re: Beer Pong Is Evil And Wrong!
Just rename it to Rootbeer Pong, and problem solved.
That's what they did with Tapper, back in the day.
Re: Review: Critter Round-Up
To anybody saying this game deserves a better rating... just one question, how old are you guys?
Re: Nintendo Barring Small Developers From WiiWare?
Perhaps the project he presented was, you know, bad?
Re: Nintendo Barring Small Developers From WiiWare?
Since that guy even stated he was just making games in his spare time, I don't see why anybody would be surprised that he didn't get approved.
Re: Strong Bad's Cool Game Delayed Until July
Aww... =/
Re: EU VC Releases - 30th May - Samurai Shodown
...Are these still running at 50Hz?

You mean Yoshi's Story.
Re: Major League Eating - New Screenshots And Video
My god... I hope this one's not leaving the US, either.
Re: Frat Party Games - Beer Pong
I doubt this will be released outside the US... fortunately.
Re: Review: Dr. Mario Online RX
I've never had to wait for more than a couple of minutes for an online game to start.

Does the PAL version run at 60Hz? I think that kind of info should be present in every review...
Re: Sky Kid
"Is this the first Sunsoft game for the VC?"
This is from Namco.
Re: EU VC Releases - 16th May - Third Hanabi Festival Week
Japanese games running at 50Hz? My god, SEGA...
Re: World Games
...Wasn't the Master System version better?
Re: Metal Slug

It can be controlled quite nicely with the GameCube controller, even if you need to use the analogue.
Re: Metal Slug
I've just checked my (Spanish) copy of MSA and it's also included...
Re: Block Buster Deluxe
Looks interesting with its Vs. mode... and the music's fantastic. I might get this one.
Re: Metal Slug
So, now that's been released...
Does it run at 50Hz only, in Europe?
Does it allow to turn blood on/off, or any other options?
Does it have the original music, or is it from the Neo-Geo CD version?

Re: EU VC Release - 18th April - Sega Week - Phantasy Star III
Nebulus for C64? The Amiga version would be fine, but why bother releasing a quite inferior version?
Re: 3 NES Beat 'em Ups Coming To US Virtual Console Soon
By the way, Renegade for the Master System was awesome, and not just a graphics hack of a not-too-good NES port.
Re: Super Turrican - Director's Cut Possibly Coming To VC?
...I won't be buying the same game again with a few extra levels, for the whole price.
Re: 3 NES Beat 'em ups coming to US Virtual Console soon
I could have been buying Double Dragon if the SMS version was released... but not this. =(
Re: Top 10 C64 games wanted on the Virtual Console
The C64 version of Head Over Heels wasn't as good as the CPC version, and Wizball had an Amiga version...
It would stink if they're gonna be limiting us to the C64 versions of all those games.
Re: Wii to support BBC's iPlayer - Internet Channel update

Yes, this doesn't work outside the UK.

Re: Will Sega CD Support Ever Come To The Virtual Console?
EarthWorm Jim Special Edition would be sweet.
