@SpaceboyScreams Yeah, I’m still disappointed that enemies take so many shots and don’t even react to hits. That’s not "staying true to its roots because Metroid is not an FPS at its core", it’s just yesteryears’ gaming. It just means fights are still not fun.
Also, those cheap-looking Halo military guys with their totally replacable 90s action movie dialogue truly ruin the whole atmosphere.
@Clammy I’m with you on this one, it’s a great success but done with such a shareholder-friendly attitude (greed and lack of innovation), it doesn’t feel like the right side is winning. Regarding the games, I got bored with MKW quickly and I didn’t like Banaza at all (too much particles everywhere, I can’t even see what I’m doing and the world design is so random it hurts my eyes) so I also regret buying my S2 quickly. Also, I don’t even expect Prime 4 to be that good now that I’ve seen that bike in the desert 😭 Still, I would give the start lineup more time until a final judgement. It’s only been 3 months, these things take time.
I have to defend him, imho Bayonetta 3 was a great game. It had its flaws just as the first two games had (especially the platforming sections with Viola, No More Heroes couldn’t have done it worse), but who cares when its strengths were so obvious? Adding a bit more graphical tweaks, it would make a great remake for Switch 2
I have the controller and it’s fantastic value for this price. Sticks are great, ABXY buttons feel less weighty (more Xbox-y) than S1Pro but that’s fine. The only thing that I struggle with is the rumble which is way too strong! Tried it with Bananza and it’s unplayable because it rumbles hard with every step, all the time. Im sure the devs tuned this game very carefully, but with this controller for this game it’s no fun. I wish there was a way to adjust this. However, it’s still a great product.
@FredsBodyDouble that was my main frustration with HK as well. Also, it was such a drag to take your cash to the bank to not lose it next one you die … those long walks were just annoying as hell and not much else. On the other hand, the punishment for losing to a boss came in part from that repetitious way towards them. It made the mechanics unique. Annoying but unique. And it made every attempt count.
To be fair, It’s hard to say for me how the game would feel without them, but still my first hope when Silksong released was „PLEASE get rid of these long walks until I may take another attempt at that boss again“, and that says something.
We never got that long promised Cruis‘n DLC which would’ve been nicer, but yeah I’ll take this one instead. More of the same with another license slapped on top, count me in. The trailer‘s music sucked though.
Yeah, Worms is awesome and I loved and played Armageddon to death(match). Anyway, Worms WMD is very similar to Armageddon, it’s technically the best version and it’s for sale quite often, if you haven’t tried it everybody here should definitely check it out. Nostalgia is strong with this one, but WMD tops it in the smoothness department
@N00BiSH yes there is. The DKC series, especially the first one, was so beloved because it was all about finely-tempered atmosphere. That mood in the snowy mountaintops when the blizzard starts, those underwater levels, that fun and friendly-looking overworld map, you name it. The music was sometimes barely there, relying heavily on background sounds (think of those caves with wasps and the hissing snakes - wow, I’m still in awe). There was a sense of mystery, of not having seen everything even after 100%ing it. DK was unique and very different from Mario.
And now there’s this. The IP has changed to exaggerated (yes, there is something like ‚too much expression‘ for some people), oversaturated, hyperactive energy-drink-overdosed Pixar-lookalike creatures similar to what everyone has been doing for the last 20 years, while the screen is fully stuffed with crap particles for even the slightest of player’s actions. This change represents a change in direction for the whole IP, that’s why it is being talked about so much. Some like it, some don’t. There are enough reasons, they just might not be yours.
@Anakin same with me here! It has such great looks and animation but that shallow gameplay and the annoying characters / mediocre story bored me out so much … I really wanted to like it, but it’s best to accept it and move on 🤷🏼♂️
Still, it’s great to see that the devs really stand behind this game and put out valuable content for free. What a rare and beautiful thing
@tektite_captain im so with you on this. Sailing and hunting treasure and those sloppy stealth barrel sections were such a drag I couldn’t even finish the game. Great substance and art style but it was so much in need of a rework when it was released
Well, does anyone remember when Nintendo told us that 70 bucks for TOTK would be EXCEPTIONAL? Well now we’re talking about 20 more than the regular highest price and people think it’s justified? What has happened between 2 years ago and now that justifies a sudden 33% price increase? That is not about inflation, just do the math. Nintendo has never been cheap with Switch 1 games (Sony has long been much more generous with PS4 offers), but this will shift prices for the whole industry. To me, Nintendo sees itself as the company at the future top and is ready to cash in. Period.
I would love to say something differently but I HATE the art style. I mean, gameplay looks super fluid and modern (a bit too much going on maybe imo) but this neon look, terrible faces and ugly 3D Movie grimaces are just not my thing. People were right to worry from the first Mario Kart trailer, I so do not like the direction this is going and I LOVE DK so much 😢
Ugh, that purple snow level 🙄 … though I must admit the gameplay looks like it could make up for the style
This is not my Donkey Kong. I’ve always wondered why he looked so dumb / grumpy but grew to love him like that over time. Needless to say I grew up with the Rare trilogy …
What I really don’t like is this pixaresque Mario Movie version with the usual hectic exaggerated facial expressions that EVERY SINGLE animated 3D movie character has. To me that’s a lost opportunity for being different. But sigh I’ll (have to) get used to it I guess
I want to like it but watching the videos I miss some frames in the protagonist‘s running animation and unfortunately to me, the 2D characters break the hierarchy of what’s important and what’s not. I’m supposed to interact with an NPC or enemy that looks just like a negligible collectible … I love the music and overall weird vibe though, and thanks so much to the devs for trying something new! Guess I’ll just wait for some reviews.
I bought it and it’s definitely more of a browser game quality. Really wanted to like it but got bored after stage 2. Clunky controls (ok you could call that a callback to NES/SNES times) and totally uninspired enemies and level design. Those „lore“ scrolls are much too boring to read (they’re just plain text, not even illustrated), there isn’t even an overview world map etc etc. So many missed opportunities. Compared to other games with an 8 it’s totally undeserved, more like a 5-6 imo.
@DripDropCop146 OMG thank you, what you said about Japanese/western RPGs is so true!
Sea of Stars is a perfect example of a gorgeous-looking game with a completely forgettable (western fantasy trope) story - and way too much badly written dialogue (no, a „…“ textbox does NOT automatically create deep and memorable story moments). Also, that Paper Mario-Style fight system felt so antique, it just doesn’t carry me through a 8h+ game. I wonder why so few game devs try and refresh that Lttp/Mana/Terranigma fighting style a bit. Tunic and Hyper Light Drifter both tried and succeeded, but those examples are rare. That combined with SoS look would be an instant buy for me.
Sorry for the rant, I can still see what’s to like about that game, it just wasn’t for me.
Valfaris was such a blast that nailed the Contra gameplay 100% and these „ugly graphics“ became such a joy to look at while playing, I think I played through it at least 5 times with different difficulties and weapons and always had a ton of fun. Solid 8/10 from me for Valfaris and I’m immediately sold on this one.
Also I’m glad they stuck to the overall vibe very much.

Re: Review: Carmageddon: Rogue Shift (Switch 2) - A Destructive, Roguelite Wreck Fest That Runs Out Of Road
You can tell how well a game is made when the cars don’t have shadows underneath.
Anyway, the concept of "Burnout with weapons" sounds undeniably awesome, this might be fun for an afternoon

I wanted to like it but his was such a drag. 3 enemy types and tons of annoying spiders and flight types, definitely don’t need more of that

@Patendo How is the D-Pad? That was my biggest issue with it, for the rest the Pro1 was already 👌🏻

@Theghostofkeithmoon nailed it. Looks like a Ubi Soft mobile Game for Fortnite players. Absolutely no insults meant here, just not my type of game
