Reggie appears to have received a rather impressive gift from his good friend Geoff Keighley - the host and creator of the Video Game Awards. Geoff worked with the wonderful artist Sam Spratt on the above painting to commemorate Reggie's retirement.
This was what Reggie had to say about the special painting:
One of the best retirement gifts so far. From my good friend @geoffkeighley Commissioned from wonderful artist Sam Spratt. Thanks Geoff!
And Geoff replied with the following comment:
What an amazing legacy and career, thanks for your ongoing friendship and support through everything @reggie!
So, what do you think of this masterpiece? Would you like to hang it on your own wall? Tell us below.

"Epic" doesn't even begin to adequately describe this. I want one!
Come on @reggie! Give us Morher 3!
That is awesome
Somehow, some way, this is going on a t-shirt, and I’ll have one.
EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC. Can someone describe this in the way it deserves? cause i dont know enough english to do that. EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC.
Is there a better way to go? Wow
This is so awesome. It really says something special about Reggie that he has received such warmth and love from friends and fans alike.
Had a friend who met him a few years ago, and was floored at how genuinely nice he really seemed to be.
Reggie is going to be sorely missed in this industry. I trust that Bowser is going to be a wonderful successor, though. Just a hunch. The fans are in good hands.
I love it and think the artist did a wonderful job. It cracks me up too.
already sick of hearing about this guy
@Guitar_bard
Reggie always struck me as a genuinely nice person.
If I would like to hang it on my wall? I don't think Reggie would be happy about that.
Wow. That is amazing. I need one.
That is really beautiful
Truly beautiful. A worthy tribute for the man who presided over the company while it delivered Mario Odyssey, Splatoon, Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, and Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival.
@Audiobrainiac a t-shirt? Yes, please!
My body is Reggie!
Amazing!
While he was around for much shorter time than so many other Nintendo employees, he is so large and in charge as to leave an imprint on everyone that saw him in action.
I'm having that.
Oh man, this is stunning! Sam Spratt should also make one starring Sakurai! PLEASE?
Other Nintendo legens like Iwata and Shigeru would also work
@Solomon18 then there's no reason for you to visit these articles and comment on them is there? Hope you have a wonderful day ^_^
Is it 5ftx5ft or 5inx5in?
Wonderful! Would like to have this on my wall.
@sikthvash bout the same reason as you..
Can we get a t-shirt of that?
I need a t-shirt with this on it
Yeahhhhhhhhhhh this respect between the professionals is precisely what the games industry needs more of.
That is freaking awesome!
It's the end of an era.....
Something still seems impossible to believe that Reggie's retiring at so young an age. Execs just don't do that. That [plus his Twitter, I don't get the feeling he's planning on spending the next 30 years playing canasta on Tuesdays.
@ALinkToMyProfile Don't be ridiculous. Sakurai would never let Spratt make his retirement painting. he'd insist on doing it himself. It would take 3 years, of him locking himself alone in a room, making the massive piece of art, and then he'd release periodic videos complaining about how much of a toll it's taking on him. But he'd never let anyone else touch it.
@Solomon18 READING. You are reading about him. And you can stop at any time since you're the one one choosing to read beyond a headline.
Genuine Geoff!
I'd buy that. I'd buy that so hard.
@Dahn_ oh well done yes I wasnt hearing I was reading. you really are genius I can tell!
That is flipping amazing and it speaks to the relationships that Reggie built during his tenure.
@NEStalgia I think it has to do with the death of Iwata to a degree. Reggie saw not just a mentor to him, but a good friend slowly die in front of him working a beyond stressful job and not spending that time with his family. I think he wants to see his kids grow up and spend that time with them. Don't think Reggie is not well to do as he can probably never have to work another day in his life. Reggie got to work a dream job and leaves Nintendo on a high point and with a fantastic legacy that has left him more than fulfilled on a professional level.
This seems like purely a personal decision as someone of Reggie's quality and resume would have been picked up by now and he would not be retiring. Its great to see him retire on his terms rather than being forced to due to age or health reasons.
@Wexter Even without the aspect of Iwata, I was thinking the way you are about this. It's all speculation, but with that aspect it is very reasonable. I know someone who was working away with thoughts of retirement pretty far down the line. Then, a close friend passed away, and it was a revelation that pushed that person towards retirement as soon as possible.
There's quite the real possibility that after a while he'll get back into some new work situation, but only something he'd be passionate about and that he'd have control over. We should all be so fortunate.
That's very cool.
