@Lanmanna I think the more cartoony style lends itself better to the 2d Zeldas (it was perfectly suited for Link's Awakening), but I think a bit more realism is better for the 3d entries. Not gritty realism, but a balance between the two.
I liked AM2R but it felt too similar to Zero Mission. I'm glad we got something different in Samus Returns. Hoping for a Switch port sometime because playing that on the 3DS gave me the worst hand cramps ever.
Yeah, I got real sick of the EMMI about halfway through. It's really fun to finally take one down, but I get tired of having to run and hide when I'm just trying to pass through an area to explore.
Also don't like fighting the same chozo warriors multiple times.
I love the traditional Zelda formula but going back to them now feels tedious due to their mostly linear design.
BotW is like a choose your own adventure and I absolutely love it. It ain't perfect, but it was a welcome change that the series needed. Excited to see what they do with the follow-up.
I only played three games this year; -Mario 3D World was great as expected but Bowser's Fury really took me by surprise! -R-Type Final 2 was a mixed bag but mostly worth picking up. -Metroid Dread was a love it/hate it experience but it ultimately won me over and I'm on my 3rd playthrough.
Next year I'm looking forward to the new Kirby and Zelda entries. And where the hell is Fall Guys???
I mean...I like the idea of a virtual arcade but not interested in playing a collection of knock-offs and the nostalgia bait vaporwave esthetic has worn thin by now.
I really tried to like Zelda II back in the day but it's just so boring, tedious, and frustrating. The music is mostly good but when I hear it my brain turns to oatmeal. Playing this game feels like operating heavy machinery on half a bottle of robetussin.
I honestly thought it would either fail outright or be a moderate success like N64 or Gamecube.
I was not a fan of the Switch's physical design when I first saw it, and owning one hasn't changed my mind on that. The joycon are flimsy with tiny buttons and bad ergonomics, and I have no use for a portable system. It sits docked with 2 pro controllers.
That being said, I'm glad it's been as successful as it is and the games make it well worth owning one.
I really had to force myself to finish this game after walking away from it twice. Even with quality of life improvements, the overall game design is enough to keep me from picking this one up again.
Admittedly tho, Breath of the Wild may have ruined all other Zeldas for me. I never want to go back to a linear-style entry again, and Skyward Sword is the most linear of all.
The e-shop is a wasteland. There needs to be quality control, a review system, and a refund policy. I've been burned too many times by a game that looked promising only to find out in less than 15 minutes that it's a poorly designed, incomplete and buggy mess.
I love indie games and want to give the developers support, but there's so much dogsh*t shovelware that the good stuff gets buried.
The demo had me worried, but after a weekend with it I'm very impressed. Not as brilliant as Delta but a big improvement over Final. I do hope they patch out the load time between deaths. The graphics are nice enough but sometimes it's hard to discern what's in the foreground or background. The neon explosion effects look nice but can obscure enemy bullets at times.
@BloodNinja There is no quality control whatsoever. It's frustrating having to sift through all that crap on the e-shop. I've gotten burned a few times from something that looked interesting but ended up being sh*t. They should really have a refund policy if you play something for less than five minutes and don't like it.

Re: Miyamoto Wasn't A Fan Of The Art Style In Zelda: Wind Waker When He First Saw It
I wasn't a fan of the style, still ain't, although one benefit is the graphics have aged well as a result.
On the flipside, I didn't like Twilight's bland style either and aged a bit poorly.
BotW struck the perfect balance in my opinion. I hope they stick with it.
Re: Talking Point: If Breath Of The Wild 2 Launched Alongside New Switch Hardware, Would You Upgrade?
Upgrade me, daddy.
You take that oled screen. And them joycons. Turn them sumbitch sideways.
Cause I want the power, you butt pie.
Oh! You like waiting a year. Two years. Or how about NeVeR for cross platform games?
We are not the same.
Re: Rumour: A New Zelda: BOTW 2 Name Is Gaining Traction Online...
Rolls right off the tongue.
I hope he's wrong. 😆
Re: Poll: What’s Your Favourite New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Track?
Glad to see old favorite Choco Mountain, Sky Garden was well done, but the best has to be Ninja Hideaway.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2022 Nintendo Direct
Hoping for something outta left field. Like when Link's Awakening and Metroid Dread were just dropped on us shortly before the release.
Re: Talking Point: Who Is Nintendo Going To Buy? Don't Be Shocked If The Answer Is "Nobody"
I wish they'd buy Konami. I wish ANYBODY would buy Konami.
Re: Random: Nintendo Kart Is Trending On Social Media, Following Claims Of Mario Kart 9 Being "In Active Development"
I love the idea, as long as it doesn't get too bloated like smash bros.

Look nice but pricey. I'll just buy some decals man.

Ganon's laugh is awesome.
Re: Review: Star Fox 64 - A Cinematic Series High Point
This game alone is the reason I still have my 64. It still holds up great, and it's been baffling watching Nintendo bungle the series over the years.

Lol. Sold those silly sh*ts on ebay ages ago. Pro controller or gtfo.
Re: Soapbox: 10 Reasons Why Metroid Fusion Is The Best Game In The Series
It plays great but it's too linear, too much handholding, too much dialogue.
Hopefully Dread doesn't follow that structure.
Re: Rumour: Konami Reportedly Reviving Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, And Silent Hill
Current day Konami really is a bummer.
The only reason I bought and still have a PS2 were for the Konami titles. Best NES lineup also.
Only hope for these old franchises to come back would be to licence them to worthy development teams.

Lol. This again?
Some people playing Animal Crossing on the subway is equal to the spread of a deadly virus.
Ok, dick.
Then again, when Street Fighter II came out, I just couldn't stop Tiger Uppercutting people, so idk.
Re: Review: Axiom Verge 2 - A Fantastic Follow-Up To A Classic Metroidvania
I enjoyed the first one to a point...loved the music, art style and gameplay but gave up after going in circles for hours.
This one...the bland art style really puts me off from the get-go and the gameplay footage doesn't look like it's much fun.
Still, I gotta respect that both these games were made by one freakin' guy!
Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Online's Library Is A Snapshot Of '90s Gaming Shelves
I'll never understand why they didn't just migrate the Virtual Console to Switch.
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
Ikari Warriors on NES. The game is flawed to hell and back but I have a lot of nostalgia for it and the many military-themed games on NES.
Also Rambo.

Big meh. OLED, Shmo-LED.
I'll pass, Fox.
Re: Former Star Fox Programmer Would Be Interested In Making A New Entry Without The "Gimmicks"
Bingo. Star Fox is a game that doesn't need to reinvent the wheel.

New 2d Metroid, I'm happy 👍

Re: Hands On: Book4Games' "Precision Game Storage" - Fancy Warehousing For Your Loose SNES Carts
Bleh...these look bland and are way too pricey.
The Bit-Boxes from Stone Age Gamer are my go-to for this.
Re: Review: R-Type Final 2 - Shmup Royalty Returns In An Authentic, If Flawed, Revival
Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying
My switch is in near perfect condition after 2 years, but I only play in docked mode with Pro Controllers.
I hate the Joycons. Barely used em at all, sold em on ebay.
If they released a tv-only version of the Switch and knocked off $100 I'd be all over that.

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th April (Europe)
Waiting on my download code for R-Type. The demo was pretty underwhelming but hopefully the full game lives up.
