Before Hideki Kamiya was blocking millions of insects on Twitter and leading the charge at PlatinumGames, he was working with Capcom and Clover Studio. During this period he helped bring multiple new IPs to life, including the side-scrolling beat 'em up series Viewtiful Joe and the stunning action-adventure game Okami.
At PAX East this weekend, Kamiya was asked if he would like to revisit these older IPs and perhaps even some of the failed ones, such as Scalebound. Unsurprisingly, it's not really his decision to make anymore, even if he does want to make everything – so it's up to fans to let Capcom know:
Okami 2.. Scalebound.. Viewtiful Joe 3.. Dante VS Bayonetta.. Devil May Cry 0.. I want to make everything! ..please email Capcom
He even joked about a "Dante VS Bayonetta" game, which excited a lot of fans over on social media. As for a Scalebound comeback, that's probably something Microsoft would need to be contacted about, as it still owns the rights. In saying this, it's "very unlikely" to return.
Would you like to Capcom revive any of the above-mentioned IPs? Did you play the Viewtiful Joe games and Okami back when they were originally released? Leave a comment below.
Yeah all of these would be pretty rad, I just don't see Capcom really giving the gaming community at large what they want. They'd probably be like, "Yeah Okami 2 is coming in 2025 to the next iteration of Google Stadia as a download only, thanks for your feedback."
@SSGodLink there’s even a rumor that Capcom cancelled a Dino Crisis remake ....
I have Viewtiful Joe, but I can't get very far. It is very difficult, but the graphics are very cool.
Funny enough despite Capcom shutting down Clover Studios back in 2007 there willing to collaborate with PlatinumGames Studios on gaming projects. We almost got a sequal to Okami, but unfortunately didn't happen because due to some trouble with inner disagreements between head staff in PlatinumGames Studios the project didn't happen. I recommend checking Game History Secrets video on this:
I don't know about begging... Sounds like Nintendo Fans have to do that a lot.
Viewtiful joe 3 would be amazing. Actually Capcom needs to do an hd collection. I felt okamiden rounded out okami just fine.
Okami 2, Okamiden HD, and Viewtiful Joe 3, plz!!!
Wait, wasn't Scalebound a Platinum game? Why would Capcom need to give approval for that?
As for the others, I haven't finished Okami, but a new Viewtiful Joe game to accompany The Wonderful 101 Remastered and Project G.G would be nice. Dunno about Dante Vs Bayonetta though, sounds like that'd be easy to mess up, and possibly better off as a DLC scenario than a fully-fledged game *shrugs *.
@SSGodLink - Why not? They've been doing pretty well in the past few years, especially when it comes to new releases on old franchises (Mega Man 11, Street Fighter V, Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter World) so from where I'm sitting, there doesn't seem much reason to believe they can't do the same for other franchises (Okami especially, given they've recently ported the original to all current consoles).
@LaytonPuzzle27 - Well if the closure was for financial reasons, then there's no real reason against potential collaboration in the future, right? Especially since Platinum now carries their own brand power in addition to Capcoms.
So basically sequel beg. I’m beginning to grow tired of this and port begging.
@FullMetalWesker The Scalebound IP is owned by Microsoft, he was speaking more generally there, not just about Capcom.
If only Capcom open their ears then will I sent them the regards cause it seems like they don't listen.
Dante / bayonetta crossover, i would love that.
Capcom has pleased me in the past couple years tbh. They’re porting a lot of Resident evil over to Switch and RE 2 Remake on other consoles was amazing. The only thing I’m hoping for now is a port (even Non-HD) of Viewtiful Joe
Megaman Legends 3 and Okami 2 were both cancelled already, I thought. Capcom left a man on the moon for years, as it turned to survival horror games instead.
and then he will block you on Twitter
Not begging if is that. It's my hard earned money i will use in purchasing their products anyways. So why should I beg?
If they mean business they deliver interesting ips to the customers and not we customers begging as if they're doing it for free.
I think it's pretty lame for companies to make customers beg. Social media and forums are very powerful tools for companies to gauge customer interest. Let them do that!
I would love Okami 2
Great what is the email address! X x
Dante VS Bayonetta
oh god let it happen
yeah ill let others do that. I'm too lazy.
Zak and wiki, loved that game!!! Bring it back.
What’s capcoms email?
At least okami did already get a port but joe got left in the dust. I imagine we’ll see something from that game eventually. Capcom has been taking more than one trips to the well as of late. I’d love to see sequel to these to, something from Phoenix Wright, a brand new outing of final fight with a Saturday night slam masters blend for extra multiplayer, and an all new bionic commando. But I’d put Viewtiful joe on top of it all.
@Pizzashapes what is capcom's email? I really want a new monster hunter game for the switch, forget all this noise.
So does that mean we can ask for a new Power Stone game or just have them rereleased on the switch?
I have a smashing feeling Dante vs Bayonetta is gonna happen within the next two years.
Oh an email campaign. This will definitely work. There is no way you'll get a scripted response thanking you for your interest.
The most interesting game Capcom hasn't ported to the Switch is Monster Hunter Stories. If they ported it, the PS4 would become completely useless.
I don’t want Dante Vs Bayonetta.
I want Kill Dante in vain or Kill Bill where Bayonetta kills a bunch of characters from DmC.
The first “boss” could be a joke of that Dante reboot edgelord.
For whatever reason, I don’t really care to have a a Viewtiful Joe 3. No, what I really want is an upscaled collection of the series (1, 2, DS, and the game that was released on PSP).
I think it's a very valuable point that the developers themselves probably don't have the final say in what games get made for what systems. Ultimately that sort of thing is likely decided by the business side of the company based on whatever metrics they use to judge if they think it will make more money than it will cost.
But there is a second Okami game. Some Okami fans are such snots.
I just feel like if they'd listen, they'd pull MML3 and a Power stone 3
I've been wanting a Viewtiful Joe 3, Okami 2, and Dino Crisis 4/Reboot. for years. I don't care if this is considered "sequel begging" or "remake begging". The market works based off demand. I know those games came out and were niche at the time, but their legacy has carried on for so long that many people played the games well after the fact, and there's an untapped audience of people that would LOVE for these games to return. Many of the people that were children or teens at the time those games came out, couldn't necessarily afford it due to the whims of their parents. Many of these people are adults and will spend their hard earned cash on it.
P.S. I know Dino Crisis is not a Kamiya game, but it is a Capcom one, and I honestly believe that if Dino Crisis 3 had decided to keep Regina involved as the main character and go with it's original dilapidated city/jungle setting instead of dino-zombies in space, the series never would have died. Please don't blame bad sales of Dino Crisis 3 on the franchise's viability, DC3 didn't sell well because it betrayed what DC1 and 2 were, not because people don't want Dino Crisis.
P.P.S. I've similarly hoped and made it known for years that I would love a remake of Resident Evil 2 and 3, and I'd say those have turned out pretty well for gamers and Capcom alike.
