Although there was a theory Dante from the Devil May Cry series would be announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after the Devil May Cry 3 producer teased "a little something extra" for Switch players along with some key dates, in the end, we got Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
So, now that we know who the DLC is, what was actually being teased by Capcom? Turns out it was a new feature allowing Nintendo players to seamlessly switch between combat styles on the fly. This option means players can select from six different combat styles. Four are available from the beginning and two more and unlocked as you progress. Capcom says this feature will create opportunities for some exciting new SSStylish combos.
Here's a look at this new Switch exclusive feature in action and a little bit more about the game itself:
Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition brings the full stylish action package to Nintendo Switch, offering the addition of Vergil as a playable character and the 9,999 floors of the “Bloody Palace” survival mode. The system’s handheld mode offers the added flexibility of playing on-the-go for the first time.
Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition can be pre-purchased from the Switch eShop right now and grants a 50% discount on the existing games (Devil May Cry 2 and the original game) in North America.

Perfect time to post this news eh?
And now this port is an insta-buy
@PBandSmelly I mean this was ths news that made people assume Dante would be in Smash, and you know how well that goes over. Cough Persona5S Cough
Having completed DmC3 last week, this would have been really useful. Bit random for them to only include it in the Switch port but they have to justify the outrageous asking price somehow.
@liam_Doolan I'm not seeing that it's discounted for pre-purchase unless I'm missing something? Can you confirm?
And I thought I was disappointed Dante was going to be fighter 5...
Makes me wonder how the first two games sold on Switch to get extra play options and new features in the third entry instead of just following suit with a straight port.
My opinion on DMC3 has dropped over the years (especially after DMC V came out) but it's still one of my favourite action games, and with the style swap feature added in, should make getting back into it a bit easier than it might've been otherwise.
Also, have those two deals been mixed up? I ask because the 50% off deal is valid in the eShop here in Australia, but the pre-order discount is nowhere to be seen (you do get a discount if you have DMC 1 and/or 2 purchased, but nothing else that I can see).
@HeyItsFlapjack
The only thing really added is the ability to change styles on the fly. Vergil and the survival mode were on the ps2 special edition.
I can do this on PC as well.
DMC on Switch is awesome, and I know this is going to get some downvotes but ima say it anyway
Would of bought this, if there was physical! There I said it, go on, downvote me!
@Doktor-Mandrake They’d probably only do physical if they put all 3 onto the one cartridge. This being Capcom however, I wouldn’t count on it.
@nessisonett Very true and annoying, does anyone keep an up to date list of which physical games only come with some games?
I would of loved RE0 and RE1 on my switch as well, already own them multiple times anyway but alas the cartridge only comes with RE0 and I don't like that one
@NintendoByNature Sorry, fixed. Below is the offer available on the eShop:
"A pre-purchase/purchase of Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition on Nintendo eShop grants a 50%* discount for Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 2"
@Doktor-Mandrake Honestly, even if you prefer physical, I would say it isn’t really worth missing out on playing the game. Maybe you could buy the original on PS2 for pennies just so you have it in your collection?
Still waiting for Play-Asia to make this physical for me.
I’m so excited. I loved 5, but this is still my favorite DMC, even it that’s somewhat nostalgia at this point.
@nessisonett It comes out next month.
Ok so whats on my list DMC3 Pokemon Shield Expansion Pass Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Trails of Cold Steel 3 Bravely Default 2 Solomon Program Monster Rancher HD MegaMan Battle Network Mii costume. yeah my year is looking great!
@Liam_Doolan dangit Liam! You got my hopes up lol
@nessisonett I've already got them digitally on steam, the dmc collection and re0/re1
Certain games I just like to own multiple times on every system possible, DMC is one of those ^_^
@Doktor-Mandrake Fair enough! I’m guilty myself of buying things across consoles when I should probably be counting the pennies 😂😂
@HeyItsFlapjack it's a straight port of "special edition" from pc or other consoles. bought it on pc long time ago but could not play it because of the issues with xbox controller. i think i finished the original dmc3 twice: for dante and for vergil. already purchased it today
