@LUIGITORNADO As I explained in my post, Netflix allows temporary downloads on a large selection of movies and shows. No need for wifi once they’re downloaded. I do it on my phone all the time. It would be nice to do on the switch 1) because I have alot more available storage 2) a much larger screen that I don’t have to dirty with fingerprints. 3) and if I want to save my phone battery, for you know being a phone, which I might need, then I can use up my Switch for all of my entertainment needs and reserve my phone for when I actually might need it.
I have a tablet, but often the Switch and my phone are the only devices I bring with me on trips.
I already have the Switch connected to my TV. The second hdmi cable trades off between my cable box, my ps3, my wiiu, and my snes classic. I know ps3 has netflix, but I almost never use it on that. I mostly use it on the wiiu, but I have to boot it up and it’s slow. It would be nice to access it on the newest console that I use the most, and be able to boot it up immediately without switching around second hdmi cable.
@LUIGITORNADO Because my Switch dock is already permantly hooked to the TV. Other hdmi cords get switched between other devices. As far as in portable, Netflix allows temporary downloads for almost half it’s content. I have more free space on my micro sd card on Switch than I do on my iphone. And a much larger screen that doesn’t get smeared with oily fingerprints. And for some people, preserving their phone’s battery on the go might be more important that the battery life of their game console. It’s always good to give options. Not all Nintendo users are exactly the same.
I really just want Netflix and Youtube. Don’t need social media or even web browser. If Nindendo adds those things and other people want and use them, good for them. I just really mostly want Netflix. If I waste my own battery on Netflix and processor that’s my own problem.
Even though the animation is a tad lazy, the artwork is actually pretty nice. Way better than the artwork in the Mario cartoon we had. Mario’s voice sounded a bit like Fry from Futurama.
For trying to capitalize on the success of one of my favorite games, it really needs to be almost as good to win my interest. The only thing that they seems deliberately different are the puzzle mechanics, which don’t look anywhere near as interesting. And I doubt that the humor even comes close. Cut the price in half, and I might give it a try. Or better yet just give us Portal and Portal 2 on Switch. I’d double dip on day 1 at twice the price for either of those.
It could be interesting, but I’m still annoyed at how closely it’s ripping off portal. I’d much rather have the portal series on my switch. Especially for that price.
I’d have given the spot for those skateboard and snowboard games to Rogue Squadron and Chibi Robo. Those would have actually been in my personal top 5. Pikmin 2 would be my number one, and actually really should have made top 5, but probably wasn’t played by as many people as those others. Glad they mentioned Beyond Good and Evil. That’s one on my list I hope for on virtual console, if we ever get it.
Yeah, even though I have a gbc, and small selection of some of the best gbc games, I’d still much rather have a gameboy mini over an n64 mini. Backlit sceen, long battery, and hopefully every good gb and gbc game. I’d buy it.
My favorite of the original trilogy was Empire Strikes back. This one reminded me of that one, not in that it was similar to it in the same way that TFA was to ANH. But it was a little bit weirder and gave you more to think about. TFA gave you questions about origins, like Snoke and Rey, but that’s not very interesting to me. TLJ makes you ask more interesting questions. As for Leia Poppins, I don’t know why people hated it, other than she looked like Mary Poppins with her arm stretched out. It was important to show her arm that way, because it made it more clear that she was the one using the force to save herself. If she didn’t I might have wondered at some point, if Kylo had in a moment of weakness saved her. They needed to make it very clear that was not the case. Leia saved her own life in a seemingly impossible situation, because the resistance needed that kind of hope.
These will be a must have for me, especially before we get all those megaman games. I’ll do whatever needs to be done. I’ll be getting the purple to match my atomic purple gameboy color.
@Anti-Matter I’m not sure. The studies I read about only compared shooters with 3d platformers. But I think some types of dedicated “brain traing” games have been assesed to be ineffective, at least in what they claim to do. I play video because they are fun. But I think we benefit the most from having alot of new things to learn, which can include video games, but definitely needs to inlude lots of other stuff.
There have been other studies in the past that have shown 3d platformers to increase grey matter, especially in the hippocampus. But when they compared groups playing only action/shooter games with the group playing the platformers, they actually had shrinkage in those brain areas. The theory most of the studies came up with was that you use different learning and memory strategies to navigate those different games. 3d platformers favor visual memory navigation, but shooters usually have on screen navigation and encourage reaction/reward based learning. In other words, you kind of go on auto pilot while playing. But platformers force your brain to solve the levels by building a mental model of the environment.
@Hordak Yes, but you have to buy a reciever, and update the firmware on the reciever. And the bonus of the snes30 over these new ones is that you can still use them on the Switch. (And they look like the original Snes gamepads) From what I understood about these newer pads is that they are only designed to work on the classic consoles. That’s why they are so much cheaper and come with a reciever. Also, I haven’t tried the duel shock, but they are supposed to work with the reciever a well, after you update the reciever.
@VinnieMii Yeah, I have those Power Battle and Power Fighter games on the Gamecube Megaman collection, but playing any Megaman with a Gamecube controller is just awful, in my opinion. I never could get used to it. Those two, along with MM& Bass should have been on Legacy 2.
I already got legacy 1 on 3ds for a discount. And I didn’t think legacy 2 was coming to Switch, so I already bought it on Steam a couple months ago. Would have been nice if they told us about this sooner, I would have waited. I might still get it, but it can’t cost any more than what I got it for on Steam.
I like the pro controller better for BotW and Odyssey, mostly because the 8bitdos that I have don’t have motion control, but also the pro is just so very comfortable. But for any game that needs a good d-pad, I use an 8bitdo. Also, even though you can buy another set of joycons for extra multiplayer controllers for a similar price of buying two 8bitdos, I’d rather get two 8bitdos. It’s so hard playing games like Bomberman with an analog stick. Besides I like their versatility. I use my nes30 pro for my games on Steam. It even slides flat right into my laptop sleeve. You can also use them on PS3 and Wiiu, and if you get a receiver, you can also use them on the nes and snes classic consoles.
@SanderEvers I think nintendo should just make Snes joycons, with the left one having a proper d-pad, and the right one with mini snes colored buttons. And if they releases them at same time as the virtual console, can you imagine how many people would want those things?
@tguk911 I think the most recent update on the classic reciever alows you to use all of the 8bitdos with both classic consoles, so I would imagine these will work too. My reciever hasn’t arrived yet, so I can’t confirm. I’m glad I got the regular snes30, though. They’re identical to the nintendo snes controller, but they’ve recently been discontinued.
@dkxcalibur I have too, but these are really good. It’s almost like they were made by nintendo. They had one issue with lag using multiple controllers, but it was fixed in a firmware update. I’ve used the nes30 pro and the snes30 with multiplayer bomberman and mario kart, and they perform just as well as the nintendo controllers (just no motion control on those ones).
And some people saying we all should go out and buy brand new smart tv’s as a solution to switch’s lack of streaming. Ridiculous. I already have a Switch, which should already have netflix, and for me a perfectly good tv. Even if I had an extra couple thousand to throw away right now, it wouldn’t be on a tv. Same with any number of new blueray devices or streaming players. I have blueray players, and I don’t want or need a new one. I don’t want want my tv cluttered with more new devices. I just want the new game console that I use the most, to have Netflix. It’s so weird to me that just because other people don’t want or need one simple and easy to add feature, there so much distain for people who do.
@Alcovitch Same reason I don’t buy brand new cars with massive car payments. Not everyone can afford to upgrade an otherwise perfectly good HD TV every couple of years just for some built in streaming features. Pretty sure a game system is cheaper than upgrading my TV. And why should I have to upgrade something as expensive as a TV for netflix, when the new gaming system I already bought should have had it to begin with?
@premko1 @canucksfan989 That’s funny you mention that, because the NES was marketed as “Nintendo Entertainment System”, in order to market it something separate from a video game console after the video game crash of the early 80s. I’m not saying any of those dedicated consoles were bad by any means, but if Nintendo had Netflix to put on their NES back then, they probably would have. So would the others, if they were smart. But, you know, Netflix wasn’t around back then.
@UmbreonsPapa What I mean is, most game cosoles that plug into the TV, apart from Switch already have all of these services. I don’t mean portable devices like tablets or phones. I mean a dedicated streaming player that plugs into the TV that doesn’t do anything else. Maybe some people have them along with other gaming consoles. But with the number of consoles I have that do both gaming and streaming, it never occured to me to buy one. But as I’ve already stated, those consoles are getting older now, and don’t take up as much of my attention for gaming. It would be nice if the game system that I use and keep plugged in at all times, can also be used for netflix. I’m not going to buy a Roku box just for streaming, when I’d rather use a gaming system for games too. I don’t want dedicated steaming devices hogging an HDMI port, when there are gaming systems I’d rather keep plugged in.
Well, I want VC too. Doesn’t have to be “either or”. It just seems strange to me that something as ubiquitous as Netflix can’t be used on one of the newest gaming consoles. I, along with many other people only use Netflix on a gaming console, because it’s pointless to have it on anything else if you’re a gamer. So I keep older consoles, that I’ve mostly lost interest in, plugged into my TV just for video streaming. Maybe many Nintendo owners already own all the latest consoles, but I think there might be a good number that don’t. I know that netflix will probably come to Switch in the future. But I think alot of people, including Nintendo, have some misguided perception about what allowing streaming apps onto Switch might mean for the status of the system.
@canucksfan989 They might if they got rid of their WiiU when they got their Switch. They shouldn’t have to use Netflix on a last gen console, anyway, after they got the new one. PS4 is going to be $200 brand new. I may be happy enough with Switch games for now, and it’s true I wouldn’t buy a PS4 just for netflix. But if I have to keep booting up my old WiiU just for Netflix, which I use often, it might be enough to excuse a purchase that I might be more reluctant to make. Because, hey, PS4 plays great games, too. And I’d rather spend slightly more on a gaming system than a device that only does streaming apps. All of these devices take up space and force you switch your hdmi around. I don’t want to do that. I just want to turn on my game system, and either play games, or watch netflix.
@Ogre Comparing a Netflix app to the loads of shovelware on the DS, or any other device is an exaggerated argument. These discussions don’t involve many people complaing that the Switch doesn’t have a Mario themed kitchen timer. It usually is just “Hey, where the heck is Netflix?” And that is a perfectly reasonable question. This is a brand new, next gen game console, and the only one of it’s generation that doesn’t have basic apps for video streaming services. And many people seem to forget that these things actually plug into the TV. It’s not just about what phone or tablet you have access to. So unless we hold on to our older gaming consoles, many Switch owners who upgraded from WiiU may actually be tempted to go out and buy PS4 when they go on sale on black friday. Does Nintendo really want people to buy competing game systems, just because they’re indifferent about adding Netflix? At least announce when. I don’t have or care about hulu.
Just because one user doesn’t need or want those apps doesn’t mean it’s not imortant to have. I have one HDMI hooked permanantly to my Switch. The other one switches between my PS3, WiiU, cable box, and SNES Classic, depending on which was last used. I primarily use Netflix on my WiiU, but it takes time to plug everything in, including the gamepad, and get it booted up. Compared to the Switch, it’s slow. Everyone arguing that it’s not needed makes the argument that everyone has a phone or tablet. That may be fine if you only watch Netflix in portable mode. But for a brand new system to take up HDMI real estate on my TV, not having the most basic streaming services that all other next gen consoles have, makes zero sense. Many people sell their last gen consoles to make room for the new ones. Where does that leave them for using Netflix on TV? Their computer, if they have one. It’s like Nintendo is begging people to go out and buy a PS4.
We know we are getting Pikmin 4. Hey Pikmin! was not our Pikmin sequel. We just don’t have an official announcement yet. I want a 3-d, exploration based Chibi Robo. It irks me that they said they won’t make another Chibi game based on how poorly ziplash did. It’s not just a character that sells game. Half the charm of the original Chibi was exploring the world through the perspective of a toy. That’s why Chibi was so much more entertaining as a 3-d exploration game than as another 2-d platformer.
I don’t understand why some of you think the WiiU died because it supported Wii games. Backward compatability is a major consideration for me when it comes to buying a new console. Probably the reason I still don’t own a PS4. Maybe they should have named it something different, but it wasn’t the backward compatabilty that hurt it. Wii was backward compatable for gamecube ganes and controllers and those sold like hotcakes. I always adopt new systems much more quickly when they are backward compatable. Recent exception being the Switch.
I want both Pikmin games on GC VC, even though it would be like my fourth or fifth time playing both. Beyond good and Evil would be great to have on the switch, although I’d prefer they gave us the HD version instead. Phantasy Star would be a good multiplayer. I also want Chibi Robo, especially if they refuse to do another 3-d Chibi. Photo finder didn’t count. Why on earth would they base their decision to make another Chibi on the the popularity of photo based 3ds game and a cheap 2-d platformer? I actually don’t care about Mario Sunshine. As far as Major Mario titles, it wasn’t the best even for it’s time. Other games have aged much better, in my opinion.
So the pro controller is better, but so what? I’ll never own 4 if them, yet I already own 4 gamecube controllers. I did like the gamecube controllers. They aren’t the best controllers ever made, but they were comfortable for most gamecube games, and unlike ps2 controllers, they had character. I didn’t like them for retro games like the mega man collection. Small d-pad and akward button layout for those types of games. Anyway, as cool as it would be to have a smash bros on switch, I’d much rather this mean GC virtual console. Then we could still have melee, plus many of my other GC favorites.
Can you customize the avatars and clothes? I didn’t like the character’s looks or outfits in the trailer. Almost don’t even want the game if that’s what they look like.
It's not like WiiU and 3DS eshop load times are that horrendously slow for having categories that are actually fun and intuitive to browse through. Besides, they're using older and much less powerful hardware. If having a sparse and boring eshop that forces you to scroll through every game that didn't come out two weeks ago shaves off a couple seconds, then it's not worth it. The future games section is so boring. We know alot of great games are coming out, so show them to us. That's why the 3ds eshop was way more fun to use, even when it was brand new. Lots of videos and demos and info about future games to get excited about buying. Seems like with Switch, their aim is to only show games that are out now, or coming in a week or two, so that you only focus on those, and don't hold on to your money for something you'd be more excited about in the future. It's also why their eshop is a place nobody wants to spend much time in.
I had the amazing good luck of having cancelled work that morning. Wasn't planning on getting one, because I didn't think I could. But, with no work for the day, I decided to drive around and see. Gamestop was the first place I came to. They had 11 posted at the door, and only a few people ahead of me, so I waited. Had to wait for over an hour for the store to open, but I got one. Considering I couldn't even get a preorder, I'm amazed I actually got one on launch day.
I loved the 3d environments in the last two, but prefered the characters in their traditional cartoon forms. Now there doesn't seem to be as much incentive to buy the 3ds version over the mobile version. (Probably, still will, anyway) I know 3ds is winding down, but I really miss the early days of 3ds when they actually cared about making their games an immersive 3d experience.
I would use it. I use my Wiiu on the Tv, but I have to plug it in, boot it up, plug in the controller if it isn't charged. But the switch dock I keep plugged in, and I could just slide it in, grab a charged joycon or other controller and turn on the Tv. I'd also use it in tablet mode, too. Who wants to juggle devises and headphones when you can go straight from playing a game to watching a movie if you want? Besides, the switch is more comfortable to hold than my ipad mini, and you can navigate with controllers instead of getting gross fingerprints all over your screen just before watching a show. Plus being able to download shows onto a large memory card would be great. Storage is very limited on my ipad and phone.

But I think alot of people, including Nintendo, have some misguided perception about what allowing streaming apps onto Switch might mean for the status of the system.
Re: Hands On: Watching Hulu on the Nintendo Switch
Re: Hands On: Watching Hulu on the Nintendo Switch
@Ogre
Comparing a Netflix app to the loads of shovelware on the DS, or any other device is an exaggerated argument.
Re: Hands On: Watching Hulu on the Nintendo Switch
Re: Yoshiaki Koizumi Says Non-Traditional Nintendo IPs Are Bound For Switch Next Year
We know we are getting Pikmin 4. Hey Pikmin! was not our Pikmin sequel.
Re: Nintendo Switch v4.0.0 Update Brought Surprise GameCube Controller Adapter Support
Re: Nintendo Switch v4.0.0 Update Brought Surprise GameCube Controller Adapter Support
Re: Nintendo Switch v4.0.0 Update Brought Surprise GameCube Controller Adapter Support
Re: New Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Screens Show Off Dromarch, Who You Can Ride Through the World
Can you customize the avatars and clothes? I didn’t like the character’s looks or outfits in the trailer. Almost don’t even want the game if that’s what they look like.
Re: Poll: The Switch eShop is Hot, But Is It Time for an Overhaul of Its User Interface?
Re: Poll: A Retro Quest - Were You Able to Buy a Super NES Classic Edition / SNES Mini?
I had the amazing good luck of having cancelled work that morning. Wasn't planning on getting one, because I didn't think I could. But, with no work for the day, I decided to drive around and see. Gamestop was the first place I came to. They had 11 posted at the door, and only a few people ahead of me, so I waited. Had to wait for over an hour for the store to open, but I got one. Considering I couldn't even get a preorder, I'm amazed I actually got one on launch day.
Re: Preview: Solving the Puzzle of Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy
Re: Rumour: Netflix App Ready For Switch, All It Needs Is Nintendo's Go-Ahead
