@SonOfDracula This is a Japanese sales article, not a Pokémon article. Try reading the headline before whining about off topic posting.
If anything you're being off topic because you brought up quality, which as you've stated before has nothing to do with sales, and thus nothing to do with this story.
@MajorTom Answer to the first question is no. As for the second question, which version of "literally" are you using? Hard to tell these days now that the word has evolved to mean its own antonym .
BTW opinion just has two 'n's. Doesn't seem to be a simple typo since you made the same mistake twice.
@Mgalens I have no issue with the people criticizing Pokémon or any other game. I'm mocking and laughing at the people who are trying to shame those of us who like the game.
@SonOfDracula I'm well aware of what the word means, and the fact that your first post referred to people who bought Pokémon SV as "bloody sheeple" demonstrates that you don't just have a problem with Game Freak, but also with people who don't share your opinions or priorities about the game. No use backpedaling now.
As someone who enjoys seeing entitled outrage mobs not get their way, I'd like to congratulate Game Freak with their unprecedented success with Pokémon Scarlet/Violet!
The most surprising thing to me about this chart is that Final Fantasy actually has a bigger launch than any Dragon Quest game. The post-FF7 hype must have been huge (and then fallen post-FF8)!
@Jeronan Your claim that Game Freak is part of The Pokémon Company is factually incorrect. TPS is a joint venture company formed by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures.
@Savage_Joe If you actually read that interview, you would know that the 1000 people involved with Sword/Shield were not all Game Freak employees, and that only about 200 people from Game Freak worked on the games. Try reading more than the headline next time.
@Ryu_Niiyama It's even more grassroots than this article implies. The first few issues were hand drawn, photocopied, and sold in local doujinshi shops. Game Freak was a pen name that Tajiri used before it became the video game company.
"It should come as no surprise that Splatoon 3 continues to ink its name at the top spot, but this week also sees the charting debuts of Harvestella and Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom in second and third place respectfully."
The biggest surprise to me is that Final Fantasy is no where to be seen. To think that FF7 pretty much single-handedly cost Nintendo their dominance with consoles in Japan.
I recall the Wii actually having a price increase in Europe due to exchange rates and taxes, so this actually wouldn't be unprecedented. In any case I just picked up a Pokémon SV OLED so as Reggie would say, not my problem!
@Drac_Mazoku No worries. I think the PS5 is a great console and compliments the Switch perfectly, but like all things it's not going to be for everybody. I'm glad both are successful.
@Drac_Mazoku If you had read up to the second paragraph of this article, you would know that the PS5 was also the best selling console in the UK, and for the whole year (not just one month).
That takes nothing away from the Switch's success, which is in the running to become the best selling console of all time. But clearly people care about the PS5.
So apparently the Japan Game Awards follows the Japanese fiscal year: April 1 - March 31. It's a little different for each country; by comparison the British fiscal year is April 6 - April 5.
As for BDSP winning the Japan Global Award, it certainly isn't my pick but I mostly spent 2021 playing remakes and ports so I doubt my choice would be any more popular. I actually find the winner of the Overseas Global Award to be far more undeserving. There were so many great non-Japanese games last year, so for yet another Call of Duty game to win is disappointing.
@TheRealKyleHyde Comforting familiarity doesn't really have anything to do with the success of Dragon Quest or Pokémon, seeing as how those franchises were popular since their first entries. In fact the opposite is true for Pokémon since the originals are still the highest selling games in the series.

@SonOfDracula Indeed! And the delicious schadenfreude over the failed outrage mobs certainly helps too!

@SonOfDracula Proud bloody sheeple here! Cry moar!

Well, that's one way to waste $8.

Re: Review: Airoheart - Adequate Adventuring For Link To The Past Obsessives
Nice to see the protagonist is left-handed! Was sad to see Link changed to a righty in Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild.

You misspelled Aegis in the #9 slot.
