See, now THAT is a raise. 10% is still not even close to keeping up eith inflation - that would take a 50-75% raise lol - but it's still far more than most corporations would even consider, so Bravo to Sega, and congrats to their employees.
Meanwhile, I work for a major tech company in the US, and our raises ans bonuses have been indefinitely suspended.
With the news that they originally had plans for a Legends Johto and canceled them, I'm almost certain now why they switched to such a compact location in ZA instead:
GameFreak is shook from all the bad press they got about how bad Scarlet/Violet runs on the original Switch. And because Nintendo was being vague for so long about the Switch 2 release date, they had to proceed with a game that would run well on Switch 1. And the vast landscapes of Johto would have tanked performance, I'm sure.
So they shrank the focus to one tight, compact little city so it would run well. That said, with all the backlash about the tight compact location this time, and with the Switch 2 fully out now, and future games not needing to accommodate the Switch 1, I am sure they will pivot back to a vast open world again for future titles.
This game was a victim of timing, and needing to accommodate the Switch 1. The setting seems really dull to me, so I'll probably skip this one. But I have hope for future titles in yje series.
Such an amazing series. I'm sure the rest will eventually come to the Switch 2 as well. Certainly through 6 at least... I wonder if the Switch 2 is powerful enough to run the newer games like Infinite Wealth.
If he means Nintendo's lawyers, then I certainly agree that they've been "in touch" with their fans, through their preferred form of communication (C&Ds).
There's no doubt that Nintendo makes consistently good games, but we're talking about fanbase interactions here. And I don't think I've ever witnessed them this disconnected with the fans.
I've been a fan since I got my launch SNES back in 1991. And I don't think I ever seen a reason to complain once about this company until the past year or so. But it's been ROUGH. They just keep stepping in it. It's giving 2013 Microsoft so hard.
And yep, they're the best of the big three, but only because all three are painfully anti-consumer and put of touch, and Nintendo is just the least bad. I see a lot of people dropping out of the industry and turning entirely to retro games and personal backlogs, and I also see Gen Z abandoning the console market entirely. A crash is coming.
While I think this is a fantastic partnership, what they did to that speed running event just last week leaves me very mixed-to-negative on the or response to live events using their games.
I'm still on team "I own the game, not just a license to it" though, so I dunno. I feel like if you buy a console and a game to play on it, you shoild have every right to do whatever you want with it. It's yours.
Either that, or Nintendo only has a license to the money I spent on them, which I can revoke at any moment without prior notice lol.
@Michael0916 Or don't suck up to late stage capitalism. Enjoy waiting for a sale, I'll be busy playing whatever I want.
Edit: If it's an indie, and I fall in love with it, I do legit buy it on steam, and I buy their merch too. At least they price their games right, and they are small businesses that genuinely need the support. But AAA? Gtfo lol.
@Toastmaster A GamePass-like has to be the answer, full-stop. Not even per-platform. Everything in one place. Including every retro game, all licenses sorted out. Nothing enters or leaves, a permanent complete library. I'd consider throwing ~$50/mo at such a service.
@SabreLevant Yeah, I expect a huuuuuge uptick in piracy this Gen. It's the same as the music industry in the 2000s. The prices were unfair and unrealistic, and unfriendly to the consumer, so the market responded by turning to P2P and torrents. Then Spotofy came along, offered a flat rate for nearly every song ever, and piracy dried up. The combo of affordability and convenience won out in the end. Until the gaming industry does the same, expect sole dark days for gaming profits, and a ton of people flying the skull and bones.
@SabreLevant I can't find TheBigK's original comment, but I got a GameCube for like $90 brand new direct from retail lol. I know it wasn't doing well at the time, but still.
And I still hear "Five-Hundred Ninety-Nine US Dollars" echoing in my head, and remembering how angry we all were at this at the time. When did the gaming scene all become such suckers to capitalism?
@ChakraStomps Actually, I go to local shows all the time, and they usually cost $10-20. I'm not sure where these $60 "small venue" shows are that you're talking about.
@Max_the_German I only paid $60 USD + Tax. Also, most RPGs of the era I got pre-owned, complete on Box, for like $40 each - including FF6 and Earthbound. Sounds like Europe is more used to this than Americans.
Well, this is certainly a strange turn of events! My broad prediction here, based on the info we have so far, is that this project will turn out "okay", not dissimilar to how I felt about the Mario Movie. Too cheesy and limp to be legendary, but enough going on to entertain and do "well enough" with the brand. Be ready to be "whelmed".

@Orpheus79V OH, so that's just their monthly salary then, not their annual? If so, makes sense.

Re: Pokémon Scalpers Set Their Sights On World Championships Merch
I'm not even, impressed with this year's merch anyway. The Yokohama merch SLAPPED though, and the Honolulu merch wasn't half bad either.
Re: Uniqlo Reveals New Pokémon TCG Clothing Range
@krvstkvlt Whoa, I didn't know they were selling in-store too! Great tip, thanks!

Yeah, most of these are sold out already. Wow.

For those who don't care about collecting, please don't be dismissive jerks to those who do care. It's obviously an existential issue for them.

See you on the high seas, my friends. 🏴☠️

I think I've been priced out of this hobby. Been gaming since I found a Sega Genesis under the Christmas tree in 1993. Sigh.
