Ubisoft has revealed a new trailer for its upcoming open-world computer hacking adventure Watch_Dogs today showing off the game's Chicago setting.
The open-world urban environment based on the real-life city immediately brings to mind Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series, with hundreds of NPCs going about their days while the player wreaks havoc. Ubisoft says Watch_Dogs will feature "over 3,000 different character kits and a nearly infinite amount of unique profiler possibilities."
Watch_Dogs is being developed by Ubisoft Montréal, and is slated for a 27th May launch on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. There has been some uncertainty over the delayed Wii U version being made by Ubisoft Romania, but this trailer does sport the little Wii U logo at the end. We'll let you know as soon as we find out a concrete Wii U release date.

I'm waiting for that Wii U version.
looks good. i had this peordered but due to the delay i canceled it and now i will wait for a review
Any chance on a W_D moratorium until we get a date or a cancellation?
No? OK, just thought I'ld ask.
This felt like I was watching a GTA trailer honestly. O_O
Getting the PS4 bundle May double-dip when the Wii U version is released, depends what they do with it.
Just a GTA clone. Gonna pass.
I fear they'll release the Wii U version January-February next year at full price and without the DLC out at that point. That way they can ensure that it competes against the 30€ GOTY-versions out on other platforms. Then the sales will be abysmal and Ubisoft shan't release anymore Wii U -games aside from Just Dances.
Of course everything above is just speculation. They could just cancel it outright, too.
will get the wiiu version if it comes out and the reviews are okay, I'm not too optimistic on either count though.
Looks like it has some promise.....I guess we wait and see.....
And watch when the Wii U version releases and Ubisoft will be wondering why its not selling much.
I'm waiting for watch_dogs_chinatown_wars.
The end part shows the Wii U logo at the bottom along with the May 27th release date. People who aren't up on the latest videogame news who go in to buy the Wii U version on that day will be shoehorned into buying another version due to the Wii U version's delay, and that just sucks... Especially when this will be used against future Wii U versions by saying it sold poorly. sigh
Really looking forward to this on Wii U, it's going to be awesome.
They didn't even add a disclamer...
COME ON UBISOFT I WANT TO STALK VIRTUAL FOOTBALLERS IN THE PARK AND ENTER THEIR PRIVATE GANGSTA HOMES AND PLAY FAR CRY 3 BLOOD DRAGON ARCADE WHILST HAXING DA CITY OFF-TV WITH ADVANCED AI!
I'm not sure what to think of this new trailer. I feel like it didn't really show off much gameplay; it just showed some consequences of the player's actions, not what the player actually did to trigger those consequences, which is what I personally am more interested in knowing right now.
If the Wii U version gets released and it gets decent reviews I will buy it.
I own multiple systems that I could potentially play this on and I have zero interest in playing it on any of them.
Maybe it's just me, but I much prefer fictional cities in my open world games, even if they're based on actual ones (like San Andreas or Lego City). Just a pet peeve of mine.
Still looking forward to giving this game a try, should it ever come our way.
sweet, I'm sort of suckered into it just by it being Chicago, can't wait to see if it goes out to the west loop where my office is. All these trailers ever show is stuff in the loop or things next to trains, and the loop is not very big. Hardly any games ever touch Chicago like they do NY and LA, should be fun for us here. Doesn't look like much new going on but hey, a GTA in Chicago isn't the worst thing in the world. the real choice is what next gen system to get first to play it on. Still not entirely sold on the WiiU but it's so cheap this might sell me on it.
Is it wrong that, in this game, I want to find people with a certain piece of information about them (like people who are on the no fly list for example) and murder them?
Nah
I'm gonna take a wild guess here, but I really do believe the Wii U version is finished.
But they know as well as we do 3rd party games don't sell well on the Wii U, couple that with mario kart 8 out around the same time and the Wii U version would just get washed away.
I gonna say July or August time for the Wii U version, this game is gonna sell like crap anyway on the Wii U, but if there is nothing else for Wii U owners to buy they may just rake a few sales off of it.
@Nik-Davies what's in the PS4 bundle? It's getting exclusive content right? I was trying to decide between the PS and XB1 version. It may come down to that, since resolution doesn't bother me as much... I know for sure I'm double dipping with the U version. Lol
I'm pretty excited about this game, it's more and more reminding me of the show "Person of Interest" (my favorite program on TV outside of The Walking Dead)
I have the Wii U version pre-ordered. I was considering switching to the PS3 version but I'm sticking to the Wii U version.
It is such a shame bout all the hassle bout wiiU version 2 me or my opinion should I say is the game is totaly suited for the system having 2 screens (gampad) one u on the tv and 2 ur device the gamepad maybe it won't look as good as ps4 version but in this day there is no such thing is really bad graphics been proved wit ac4 as for having the 2 screen one as the device has been proven in deus ex using it 2 hack terminals managing ur augments and using it as ur scope in a sniper rifle when done right it's awsome just needs someone 2 give a dam and not b lazy I understand that might not sell as much as the install base is smaller but u got 2 spend 2 make money more that do will bring suport along with it just my opinion tho
Nintendo should of bought this and make it a exclusive
@GannonBanned
no it isn't. It's similar to GTA, but the game is built around different mechanics.
Who knows what's going with the Wii U version (rhetoric)? After Ubisoft announced the delay of the U version, the following preview didn't show the Wii U. Then when I went to Gamestop and I was told the game was moved forward again, the previews stated showing the Wii U logo again. Now Gamestop told me yesterday that the game is indefinitely delaid again (with Dec 31 as placeholder date), but the new preview still shows the Wii U version along with the rest with the same release date.
I guess we'll know for sure two months from now if we're getting it on time or not.
Please release this on the Wii U Ubi-Soft & keep releasing Assassin's Creed games on the Wii U. I need them in my life & don't fancy buying a PS4 or Xbox One.
Don't worry guys. While everyone would be busy playing Watch_Dogs on May 27th. All of us would be busy playing MARIO KART 8 three days later . The thing is, I'm still excited for Watch_Dogs and I'm glad Ubisoft put the Wii U (and even the Nintendo eShop logo) at the end of the trailer. Day one purchase from me for whenever is released on Wii U
@HappyHappyist Sure, whatever you need to tell yourself to justify buying the game.
The whole Watch Dogs situation feels "set up to fail" on the Wii U. Didn't they hand over Wii U porting duty to some out of house studio and then delayed it with no release date in sight.
I used to defend Ubisoft, but as a fan of Nintendo consoles as well as PC, I'm losing faith...quickly.
I Live in Chicago!
Really trying not to get exited by this in case it gets canned....failing!!
Was looking foward to this but lack of actual WiiU footage and uncertainty of its release I just don give a $#!t about it anymore...
Still don't know if I'll wait till I get an Xbox One or get it on the Wii U.
Watch Dawgs doesn't look anywhere NEAR as good as when they first showed it off. The lighting and textures looked incredible whereas now... It looks like a last-gen game.
People (me included) were mega hyped for this game last year, but ever since the delays hit it's been slowly dwindling.
Thinking of getting it on Wii U now, also I noticed the pre-order bonus at the end doesn't list Wii U...
People that boycott games/company's are funny.
If Im not to busy playing Mario Kart 8, I might still get this even though I was gonna pre order it and Mario Kart 8 the week it was delayed but now I'm hesitant to do so
@rjejr oh I totally second that!
hmmmm too many hills. In all seriousness I'm glad there's finally gonna be a game about Chicago. Can't wait for Wii U play
I really hope Ubi keeps their word and brings the WiiU version this yr. I want this for the U. If they cancel that I will buy it used for ps4. Really want to use the gamepad on WD tho.
@Nintenjoe64 Same.
The game looks technically impressive, but completely unethical/immoral. A game that so boldly promotes vulgarity and violence bothers me.
Ubisoft is janky.
hmm i still dont know if i should cancel my pre order, if they give us a release date well then im getting if its cancelled last ubisoft game im going to buy.
wow, I hope you get to shoot guns. I've always wanted a game that lets me be a puppy too.
I also hope the haking part of the game is as good as Terminator 2 for gameboy. If it is, count me in!
p.s.
CHICAGO
25 or 624 is my favourite Chicago
@NbaJunkie why?
A boycott is just about the only way to send a message to these companies that you are unhappy with their products or policies.
A boycott doesn't have to be anything big, or official...it's just the consumer speaking with their dollars.
Ubisoft is not going to cancel the game. I can't believe people are still debating this. Anyways it looks good, not GTAV good but decent. Unless it's just a bad game there's no reason to not get this game. Why not prove everyone wrong and show that there IS a market for 3rd party games on Wii U.
Not buying It only leads to the self fulfilling prophecy that games don't sell on Wii U. Don't be upset when the next game skips Wii U.
lol before the Wii U delay, all comments on Watch Dogs on this site were about how great the game was going to be..... now everybody seems to think it would suck (I've never been interested since I don't like sandbox type games)
I just... I dunno. This doesn't seem like a very "me" game, but I want it to be good because reasons. And I'd buy it to support such reasons.
Could be game of the year and the reason I buy a ps4
I can't see the Wii U version being that good but only time will tell
Im affraid the wiiu version will be so much striped down if you compare it to the ps4 version.
Gta clone, but thats not a problem, how many clones mario have?
@defrb agreed
I think it will be good as long as the devloper they are using to make the wii u version knows how to get the best out of the console. Only time will tell
Fingers crossed
@GannonBanned @defrb
This game is no more a GTA clone than DK is to mario, Okami is to Zelda or Chrono Trigger is to Final Fantasy. It is the same genre sure, but just because GTA is the biggest name in open world city games doesn't mean something else in that genre is the same. This game is doing so many different things to GTA. GTA never had choice consequence, it never had this amount of NPC detail and this hugely integral hacking system is a completely different way of playing the game. It's fine if this doesn't appeal though.
if you have a Wii U and you dont want this game, you simply dont have the right to complain about the lack of third party support anymore...this game seems amazing to me and i cant wait to explore this city
PS4 version? Snicker. Looks like a last gen game in 1080p. I bet it also struggles to run at 30fps even with the significant asset reduction. I don't see how people enjoy getting locked in the 30fps ghetto... I'll wait for this in a sale on PC when the modding community gets a hold of it and fixes any downgrade issues (if there is any on PC)
Still looking forward to this and I don't care about graphics but it's pretty obvious they had to tone it down. The first footage we got was a lot darker and shiny whereas this is more in the vein of GTA. Still, I hope this will be good and sell well.
Looks great to me. Born and raised in Chicago. I'll probably hold off on a day 1 purchase on the PS4 though, because Mario Kart will have my attention.
@JQuest As far as I know, this game will have some exclusive content on both the PS4 and PS3. Sony wants gamers to associate this game along with Destiny with the Playstation brand so I guess you can expect more content to be on those platforms.
@sketchturner To be fair, there is violence pretty much everywhere in games nowadays. I know what you mean though.
This trailer seems to have a much lower quality than the previous ones, don't you think ? It still looks promising, but there is a little something, I don't know what. Not as sharp or detailled ...
This game had me for the first minute of the first trailer, but nothing since that has looked like anything I'd want to spend time on.
@GannonBanned i don't understand why you feel like i need to justify buying this game by lying to myself. i'm not lying, Chicago is literally built around the capability to hack into devices. without that aspect, sure its a GTA clone. however, since the whole game is built around hacking, even the online aspect, it is okay. and i'm willing to bet the wiiU version will be the best port of the game. sure the graphics won't be as pretty, but the game will also be built around the gamepad. that's why its coming out later than the other ports.
@HappyHappyist
I'm pretty sure at this point that the"real" reason forthe delay is bc
1. They needed the extra manpower to help with the development of the MS and Sony versions a siphoned devs from the Wii U team
2. Didn't want to compete with Mario Kart during the same month.
That said I'm sure the extra time will help with Gamepad integrations etc.
Ubisoft made the right choice not putting it up against MK8. It would have been CRUSHED!!! At least waiting for the MK8 mania to die down a few months they think WD will do better & it just might.
@Bizzyb That's the real reasons indeed. Get more people working on the versions that will sell the most because they were very late on the development, and avoid competition with Mario Kart.
Personally, I'm not offended by this little delay. Plenty of games to play anyway.
Having that wiiu logo on this trailer is misadvertising and disgusting. Ubisoft should be ashamed of themselves.
