@Rafie Gamecube rocked & I think it was overall the most powerful system of that generation, just barely eeeking out the original Xbox in terms of power but that one could go either way. I think it's Nintendo's best system after SNES but the Wii U is getting closer to the top for me with each release.
@Jazzer94 I think we misread each other. = ) I went back & re-read your comment about the Dual Shock 4. I'm agreeing with you that the Dual Shock 4 is a better controller than the Wii U Pro.
@Williaint I LOVE the Wavebird!! I STILL use it on my Wii when I play Gamecube games!! Nintendo's second best controller behind the classic SNES controller!!
@Ronoh See...I like you. You're rational, you're able to look at the big picture & be honest about it without Nintendo tinted glasses. We both love Nintendo but aren't oblivious to their problems.
@Senario So because "other" gamers didn't see a compelling game that made them want to buy a Wii U that obviously means their console of choice's library is sub par.....ummmm yeah ok.
@Jazzer94 I'll have to disagree, the Dual Shock 4 is awesome!! Sony nailed it this time and the added touchpad is just icing on the cake. The only thing the Wii U Pro Pad does better is battery life. Nintendo did an AMAZING job with how long the Pro Controller lasts on one charge.
@jjmesa16 Yeah it seems to be the "popular" or "hip" thing to say but you HAVE to have early adopters!!!! If nobody buys a console at launch, the companies don't make money, if the companies don't make money, they don't roll out content. You HAVE to have early adopters, there's just no way not to have people buy a console at launch!!!!
@Ronoh That's the point I think alot of people aren't talking about. I love Nintendo to death but I'm not dumb, the 3rd party support is deteriorating & after the holiday sales numbers roll in I can almost bet that Ubi & Warner are gonna start slowly withdrawing support & they're pretty much all the Wii U has left at this point as far as BIG AAA titles go & if Ubi does go the Wii U is dead in the water except for Nintendo's own amazing first party stuff & for gamers who like various amounts of content it's not a system you can recommend as your sole console. You need a Wii U & one of the other systems to get that content.
@SNES4Life First of all I don't think it was just Sony fans that were saying that. The Wii U had VERY slim pickings until August rolled around & then the AAA stuff started coming monthly. I have all the major systems because I enjoy various types of games. I'm just not blind to what is happening in the marketplace. Nintendo does their own thing & I applaud them for it but the Wii U is floundering HARD & it's only gonna get harder.
The Wii U does have a great library currently but look at the recent sales numbers, they're gonna probably lose more 3rd party support & they don't have that much to begin with. The Wii U will become another system that is amazing for Nintendo games. Ubi & Warner are probably not gonna stick around too much longer & wait for Nintendo to turn it around.
You're sitting their criticizing PS4's price point and last year the Wii U was only $50 less than a PS4 with WAY less horsepower & a controller to which hardly any games take advantage of anymore. Even Nintendo has been shying away from promoting the use of the gamepad in their own games lately. You say it's a better value & it is at the moment but the numbers speak for themselves. PS4 wiped away Wii U's lead in the UK in 48 hours & at this point it will be completely wiped away in just about 3 months time worldwide. Obviously there is a market for people who were willing to pay $400 plus for a console & online services. Nintendo just doesn't have the 3rd party support or online infrastructure to compete. It will do what it has done in the past, it will co-exist and be the console you play Nintendo games on & there's nothing wrong with that.
You're comparing a new console to a console which has a year under it's belt. At this point the Wii U definitely without a doubt has a better library, hands down, no contest but give the PS4 a year with the amount of 3rd party support it has & that will most definitely change.
I LOVE my Wii U but I'm not blind. It's struggling & it's struggling VERY badly. I want them to succeed but when an amazing game like Mario 3D World doesn't start moving consoles you're in a heap of trouble. Up until now, everyone was saying wait til Mario 3D World, wait til Mario 3D World....well it didn't happen. Sure it'll push a few more consoles and so will the Christmas holiday but now everyone is sayin wait til Mario Kart & then when that doesn't spur sales it'll be, wait til Smash Bros, etc...etc...
This in no way changes my love or feelings for my Wii U, I will still recommend it & I will continue to buy games for it but in 2 years time, Nintendo will be rolling out a new home console or at least unveiling it.
@unrandomsam Well, it backfired in my case as I want nothing to do with the new console versions. It actually had the reverse effect. It made me rent BF 4 for PS3 which I loved so I pre-ordered BF 4 for PS4 now.
I sold my copy yesterday. Out of my 26 retail/disc based games I own for Wii U this is the only title I have not kept in my library. I should have listened to the reviews. It's a mediocre shooter at best with the worst graphics I have seen on Wii U. YEAH IT's THAT BAD!! The textures look sub-HD quality on about 90% of the game. Character models looked great for the most part but everything else looked absolutely terrible & the story was just so meh with missions that ended just as they would ramp up.
BLOPS 2 is definitely superior both graphically & story wise.
Didn't Nintendo just say themselves a few weeks ago that consumers aren't confused about what the Wii U is? They keep saying this publicly but create charts & even sent out a letter to Wii owners telling them the Wii U was an all new HD system after launch. Just admit that you're marketing was confusing & move forward with a new ad campaign. Fire the one you're using because the commercials are terrible!!
That is an efffin TERRIBLE commercial!!! It makes the game look washed out and looks like a Wii game. It looks nothing like the AMAZING trailers they've been putting out for it!! I hope this is not going to air in North America.
I know it's been said before but calling it the Wii U and keeping the almost identical look of the previous system has just confused people plus the lack of marketing is just a disaster. I can't watch a channel without seeing an Xbox commercial yet the Wii U ads are just non existent and the way they handled Wonderful 101 was just a shame. I hope they plan on a media blitz for Mario 3D World because that game NEEDS to start moving systems.
It looks even better in motion and quite honestly it's probably the best looking game on Wii U period! Ubi really put the effort in this time & it has paid off. I rented the PS3 version just for comparison's sake & did some back & forth on several scenes & the Wii U copy is by far the best looking. It has higher resolution & textures, very crisp looking. It also doesn't bog down the way AC3 did in the cities. You can notice discernible difference in clothing textures in the cut scenes as well.
Quite honestly I was surprised to see that big of a difference but it's there & Wii U owners have very little to complain about minus the DLC that's PS exclusive of course but otherwise Ubi delivered!
@Tasuki Yeah the 16-bit era was just magical. What's funny is you see all these new HD indie games trying to replicate that 16-bit sprite "look" in games today. It really was the golden age.
Happy Birthday Genesis!!! One of the greatest video game consoles of all time & your legacy is still kicking because I still play your games almost every week!!!
Lack of retailer support my donkey!! That's code for "we're almost bankrupt & need to get this pile of crap out the door & the closest finished product is on the current gen consoles". Please watch the profanity — TBD
I still play this game all the time!! It's one of those games that has aged beautifully!!! Everything about it is just near perfect. It's the best run-n-gun shooter of the 16 bit era hands down!
The most original, bat poopiedoodlecacapoopsiedoo crazy, & fun game I've played in years!! The only control issue I ever had was drawing the hammer but I figured it out. This is my game of the year so far!! Watch the profanity please — TBD
@Jazzer94 Yeah but I think I'm more excited because they're something different. This looks just too much like the 1st 2 Arkham games. I'm sure it'll be ok but I just finished the last one so I'm not super eager to jump back in already.
@PinkSpider They do it because it's easier to blame the publisher. They'll complain & moan until they get a game & when they do, nobody buys it but then when the publisher says no more, we're moving on, they can say well the game sucked anyway or it's not my thing and they should have brought DLC this or online that to it. Most gamers own multiple systems but it's the die-hard Nintendo fans with only a Nintendo console that get offended the most but numbers don't lie. 3rd party software sells like crap on Nintendo systems.
@cyrus_zuo Exactly! Glad to see someone with maturity recognize a great game regardless of the publisher. EA took a chance with the Wii U. It didn't pay off, Ubisoft did the same & it isn't paying off. Publishers go where the money is. Wii U owners should stop making excuses for why they didn't buy this game or that game.
Watching the review on Gametrailers has changed my tune on this game. Destructoid gave it a 7.5 & Gametrailers a 7.6 so I guess I'll sacrifice my $50 Amazon gift card for this one. I have a better idea of what to expect after reading their reviews combined with the one here.
Sonic 2, 3 & Sonic/Knuckles are much better games than the 1st Sonic, not that it's bad at all but the sequels were much better in terms of mechanics and gameplay. The music in all the Genesis iterations are phenomenal though!!

@ACK Yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong with waiting a few weeks or a month to get it half off. The companies build that into their sales projections but boycotting completely does nothing for Wii U as a viable platform. If the Wii U were setting atop the market then it would be a different story but when you're at the bottom it's a pointless endeavor.

@WiiU4Life By boycotting the ONLY Major 3rd party company supporting the platform right now????
I think you'll find it's Ubisoft who will last laugh when they just stop releasing games for Wii U next year and after they leave WB will probably be the next to go. WOW you guys win!!! You drove away all those pesky 3rd party companies!!! You showed them right?? YOU WIN!!!
