Re: The Atelier Ryza Series Has Shipped One Million Copies, Koei Tecmo Celebrates With Free DLC Costumes

@Scollurio Video games are escapism. Women playing video games shouldn’t be subject to the same mistreatment they feel every day when they’re simply trying to pursue a hobby. It’s really simple man. “Plenty of places for that fight”, so you only respect women in SOME scenarios? Do you realise how that sounds? Can you imagine actually telling a woman that video games aren’t a place for non-sexualised women? Comparing women’s issues to men is a nonsense, “woke” films is just you having a dad rant. Genuinely just imagine trying to relax as a woman and play a videogame when 9/10 female characters are dressed the same way; it gets old really fast, just have some empathy.

@BloodNinja I think my best response to this would be to the reference the fact that games are, essentially, escapism. So for a man, is it annoying for every protag to be buff and white? Yeah it is a little, honesty.

For a woman however, who faces this nonsense in their daily life, so see it replicated within a pastime they use to relax, must be particularly demoralising.

Hopefully that kind of explains my perspective on the issue.

@russell-marlow That’s fair but both game devs also have wildly different reasons for doing so. When Kojima puts his name on a game, it’s absolutely for the reasons you outlined; it’s a marker you’ll be playing some wild *****. For this dev, it’s for racial equality and inclusivity reasons, it’s a marker to say “this game is made by a black man”, and I don’t think you should compare the two. But that’s just me!

@dew12333 If you don’t think attracting attention to the fact a prominent employer doesn’t pay their staff is a good thing I don’t know what to tell you. From the artists’ perspective, publicly shaming the people involved is the best way to get what they want, and I wish them well!
