When we saw 'Tactics RPG' in a game description for a press release our reaction was to click on it immediately. The game in question turns out to focus on characters that wear ineffective (as in incomplete) armour and in some cases knock clothes off their enemies, which isn't exactly in Battlefield Chivalry 101.
Empire of Angels IV is the first game in the series to come to consoles since the original back in 1993, so "reintroduces its lore, characters and mechanics with no prior knowledge necessary". As mentioned when we covered its initial announcement in April it's getting a physical edition on PlayAsia, which you can see on this product page.

That physical edition won't ship until later in the year, but the game lands on the eShop on 24th June priced at US$19.99/€19.99 with a 10% discount at launch. The actual gameplay (below) looks pretty decent for tactics RPG fans, with a fantastical story promised.
Join the Namtar Investigation Team as they patrol the Land of Asgard to maintain order against a plague that drives ordinary people to mindless violence. After Niya, captain of the Valkyrie Kingdom’s legion, witnesses a shining orb fall from the sky, everything she understands about Asgard’s history and fragile peace is called into question. Accompanied by trusted allies as well as new friends, Niya leads the team in a world-spanning mission to uncover the truth, all as the mysterious plague threatens to tear them apart.

If it runs well on switch, then maybe I will get it
Shame, was hoping this would be an actual progressive good time and not the usual nonsense.
A feminist tactics RPG? Sounds g-
'characters that wear ineffective (as in incomplete) armour and in some cases knock clothes off their enemies'
Oh.
@Dogorilla I had the exact same train of thought! “Oh cool! ... Oh.”
At least the music is pretty good...
I like how one of the outfits looks like a sexy version of the frog suit from SMB3.
Anyway, not a huge fan of the chibi artstyle this one is going for, but I'll wait to hear what the gameplay is like.
Give me two reasons to play this game!
Oh... wait..
This game has middling/mediocre reviews and a 75 percent discount half a year after release written all over it.
Nah, I'm good. Thanks
I'll wait for the 75 percent discount that someone above just mention.
Fire Emblem with (more) tits. I love FE, but my backlog is too big to bother with something like this.
I'm a big fan of Sony America's game output, correspondingly I refuse to buy any games that feature any female characters that show even so much as an ankle or are considered even remotely conventionally attactive in a feminine way. I'm certainly not going to buy any of these Japanese anime games with their waifus because that's not progressive. Let's ban this filth and then get the developers cancelled. On Twitter.
@Dogorilla Yeah a feminist tactics RPG does indeed sound grim (assuming that was the word you didn't finish).
@DeclanS98 what's "progressive good time"? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.
I will wait for the all-male version.
Imagine the backlash if there was a game that advertised that it had no females in it.
@Crono1973 final fantasy 15 had no female playable characters, at least at launch. Haven't followed the games post launch development so I could be wrong.
@FredsBodyDouble Was not advertised as an "all-male game" though.
No experience necessary?
So, a game of/for a bunch of "Mary Sue" characters and players...
Wow, the character art looks gorgeous! Then I see their actual in-game designs and it looks like a mobile game from 2012. I don't mind chibi at all but trying to hook us in with gorgeous still arts that look nothing like the characters do in game annoys me.
That kind of thing was fine... On GBA and Super Nintendo. Because they couldn't make sprites that looks remotely like the artwork. In 2021 they simply can do a LOT better. These character models looks like they are almost all just modified versions of one body.
I love that kind of anime style art. I'm an absolute sucker for it. But at the same time, I'm painfully aware of how often low budget games do this crap. They'll hire some talented artist to make 3-5 gorgeous stills of each character, those shots will be all over the box and advertising and used in GBA-Fire Emblem style "cut scenes" but the actual gameplay graphics will be super lazy.
Again, this is very much like the GBA era Fire Emblem games. And I love those games. Even though most of the character just used recolored sprites for standard unit types. But that was 20 years ago on Game Boy Advance. Simply put, they can and should do better on modern devices.
I'm gonna get the physical version!
This will be my first game to have with voice acting in mandarin!
I'm good with a strong pro female game. I'm good with a sleazy nudity game.
But why the hell do you add "can knock their clothes off, but doesn't contain nudity?"
That sounds like it accomplishes nothing. Choose either the high road or the low road, both can be really cool.
This, however, looks like it won't be as pleasing for anyone.
This thread is all hooked on the paper-thin notion of sleaze-vs-progressive to a point everyone seems to forget the game as a whole looks painfully unpleasant to play, period.
One of my favourite things about Nintnedo life is when Thomas makes articles like these. Getting people upset in the comments is one of the best ways to gain clicks.
as long is the game is good. all male, all female, mixed, transgender. it does not matter to me. I can play as female characters in great games and it does not bother me one bit. i am excited for metroid prime 4 and you play as a woman. no big deal to me.
@tntswitchfan68 It doesn't bother anyone to play as a female. It's using 'all female' nonsense as a selling point. That would never be ok in reverse.
@Crono1973 You are wrong. It does bother some people. The fact you forget about Final Fantasy 15 shows ot does matter.
@tntswitchfan68 Are there alot of people who complained about playing as a female in Final Fantasy 13?
@Dogorilla this game totally empowers women to warrant my attention...
@weisske I call it agitate bait
@DeclanS98 Compared to some other JRPGs I’ve played. They seem dressed rather conservatively actually.
@tntswitchfan68 What was the problem people had with FF15?
@Crono1973 That don’t need to advertise. It’s already the status quo.
I want an all MALE tactics game, dammit. I'm tired of all of these fan service games made for virgins who beat off to anime tiddies.
So the character art is great but teh actual game is Chibi nonsense where you can KNOCK THEIR CLOTHES OFF? Exactly what I expected from this. Appealing only to degenerate man-children.
@brandonbwii Not only are all-male games not the status quo, you know as well as I that they would NEVER advertise them as such.
You see, being anti-male is completely acceptable but the reverse isn't.
@Chamver I was hoping to find some angry kids whining and boy did you deliver, thanks!
@Chamver degenerate man-children
What's the term for women who act immature?
@Crono1973 Some did.
@brandonbwii bland characters. But, it was an all male cast. People act like if they were to do something like that, ot would be trouble. No one cared.
@Crono1973 At the same time though, what was the last game about knockin' the clothes off sexy dudes in sexy armor? I imagine if that game ever got made, they would mention it in the marketing.
@judaspete When is the last time you heard of male only subway cars and male only parking spaces?
The point is, this stuff only ever goes one way.
@Dogorilla you can tell by the title that wasn't the case, tho...
@Manly I just don’t like sexism.
@Manly No, I don't think I will just 'deal with' sexism.
