Re: Rumour: Nintendo Patent Supposedly Points To Return Of DS Games

DM7Dust

@gaga64 Eh yeah, though again, I'm pretty sure that only went through because they narrowed it down to a very specific loop (at least that's the wording Reddit used), and that's only on the very big IF it holds up against a counter-lawsuit.

Although I do also want to post a correction to my earlier post: the Mega Man ZX Legacy Collection actually DOES have a screen option where the bottom screen can be transparent in the corner of the top screen.

Apologies for the confusion, though I doubt it means Nintendo would want to/can do anything about it, regardless.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Patent Supposedly Points To Return Of DS Games

DM7Dust

@gaga64

Short answer: probably not.

Long answer: highly unlikely, especially considering the Mega Man Star Force Collection is coming out next year.

This patent (assuming it even gets granted, & even if it does, it'll probably be limited in some way, like only being granted in the US or have really specific applications apparently like the Palworld stuff, assuming if even those stick) mentions having the top screen be the TV & the bottom screen being the touch screen, where the collections just have everything on one screen.

The picture in picture mode has the bottom screen in the corner within the main screen, & I don't think the collections do that (they have both screens separate at all times & I think you can just have the bottom screen in a corner or directly below it).

Take this with a grain of salt of course, since I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think Nintendo would have a case if they tried to stop whatever DS collection some 3rd party would want to make (doubt they'd care ether way since said DS collections usually come to Switch/Switch 2 regardless).

Re: Sonic Adventure 2 'Live And Learn' Lawsuit Dismissed, Crush 40 Musician Issues Statement

DM7Dust

@HammerGalladeBro

I think it's mostly because Zebrahead (His World) & Bowling for Soup (Endless Possibilites) would have wanted royalties if Sega used their songs more often, since the bands are the ones singing, so that's why Sega hasn't really used the vocal versions in a while (I think they used some other singer when EP showed up at a live concert series).

Though interestingly enough, both showed up in Sonic X Shadow Generations & His World shows up in the Mini Soundtrack app they had, which is interesting since they replaced the Sonic Rush song that was in Generations (though remixes of Rush music shows up in some of the spin offs, so that's probably more because Hideki Nagamura's work uses a ton of external samples & they probably didn't want to bother with trying to find the original owners or recompose it on top of all the other work they needed to do for games, but that's another story.)

Music right royalties & the rights of individual artists have been a hot-button issue for ages (Taylor Swift v. Scooter Braun, for example), so I don't really blame Sega for just wanting to get around/not deal with it when they 100% don't have to.

Re: WWE 2K25 'John Cena Farewell Tour' DLC Out This Month

DM7Dust

@Andee9001
I'm not at all happy with what's apparently came out about Lesnar these past few years, but he's also one of the last few big stars from the past 20+ years who hasn't retired yet (unlike Cena, Taker, Angle, etc), so honestly I'm not really surprised WWE & 2K put him back in as soon as they were legally able to.

Doesn't really help matters that Sting, Edge, Christian, & a lot of the early NXT talent hopped ship to AEW ether (although Billy Gunn I think got added to 2K25 as DLC, so maybe that doesn't really matter all that much?).

Punk would've probably still been in AEW if he kept his emotions towards Perry & the Bucks in check, too, though that's another story.

Also, Brock technically was in WWE 2K24 the match where he beat Taker's WM streak was included (I think a few others were as well, but I can't remember), they just didn't make him playable online because of the court case.

On that note, I'm pretty sure the court case is still ongoing, so there's definitely a possibility that things'll take a turn for the worse for Lesnar, if not WWE as a whole.

Re: Rumour: Final Fantasy Devs Supposedly Hint At Another Nintendo Release

DM7Dust

@Yosher

Considering FFXVI's file size is around 170GB on Steam, I wouldn't really get your hopes up about Square being able to fit it on a 64GB Switch 2 card.

@Truegamer79

That being said, I'd much rather FFXVI on a Game-Key Card than a cloud version, since at least then, you only need internet to download the game & maybe some patches if needed, & then you can play it offline without worry (unless there's some extra DRM for whatever reason, though from what I can tell, that's usually not the case on Switch/2).

I would also prefer not needing the internet at all, but games are pretty big file size right now, and/or apparently devs don't really want to deal with paying for the costs to produce a lot of carts for sale, so it's ether this or most of the 3rd party stuff being like codes in the box or whatever.

Re: PSA: Switch 2 Is Getting Revealed In The Next 100 Days

DM7Dust

Honestly, I don't really care when the Switch 2 is announced, since I doubt I'm going to buy it or another new Nintendo system ever again (unless I decide to get a Switch Lite at some point, if that counts).

I don't want to sound like I want to ruin anybody's hype for the Switch 2, that's not my intention.

But Nintendo basically ignoring a year's worth of backlash & shutting down the 3DS & Wii U eShops (also the Wii Shop Channel further back) just so they can lock those older games behind their $20-50 subscription service was basically the last straw for me in that regard.

I don't think NSO is bad (it's a lot better than PS+ & Xbox Game Pass, in regards to pricing), but the monthly drip-feeding of a few older games at a time is obnoxious, especially since you can't buy any of those games outright & keep them indefinitely, something you can at least do with PS & Xbox's subscription offerings.

I'm not going to be all complete & utter boycott of the company or anything like that, I still buy Kirby & I also got the recent Mario Party, for example, but I'm definitely not going to support anything that'll be next-gen only.

Because if their just going to dump their older systems in the trash & give the finger to fans who supported the Wii U/3DS over the more successful PS4 & Xbox One the past decade just because now they aren't dead last in the console race anymore (for now, at least), why should I, as one of those fans, reward that behavior?

Also, I know this is kind of a downer thing to post on Christmas Eve, but I was thinking about it just now & wanted to say my piece, since I've thought about this for a while now.

Anyways, I'm done for now.

Happy Holidays, & Merry Christmas.

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 6 - Takes The Chequered Flag With A Safe Final Lap

DM7Dust

@highscore There's a recent re-release in Japan that you can import that has most of the waves on the cart, & you'll just need to download an update for Wave 6.

But to be completely honest, I think the Booster Course Pass as a whole was pretty disappointing for me.

$25 for 48 tracks sounds (and still kind of is) a good deal, but a lot of the value was ruined by the fact that a good chunk of those tracks were just the real life city courses from Tour, which in my opinion are really unappealing, even with the multiple routes on each lap.

And it wouldn't have been so bad if they just had like a couple of them, but instead there's like 14 of them, leading the Pass to get really repetitive theming wise, especially since the Pass lacks a lot of the cool retro courses that were also in Tour, like Airship Fortress & Shy Guy Bazaar.

I honestly would have preferred they cut all but maybe like 1 or 2 city tracks & kept the other unique Tour tracks, since those were pretty good (except Sky-High Sundae, honestly didn't really care for that one that much), and then focus on having a more even balance of courses from the other games.

That said, while many of the retro tracks were a lot better, there were some I thought were kind of iffy: I thought GBA Riverside Park & GBA Sunset Wilds were alright, but kind of meh compared to, say, GBA Yoshi Desert & GBA Bowser's Castle, & while I do actually like 3DS Toad Circuit, I think 3DS Mario Circuit has way better track design & I probably would have included that, instead. I guess maybe they went with Toad Circuit because that's actually the tutorial track in Tour & thought that would stick out to some players.

Anyways, long story short, I think that if I knew what the full track selection of the Pass was going to be when I bought the Pass (I think I got it around Wave 4 when they were doing a promotion where you could get extra gold coins for buying certain games), I probably would have saved my money, because while there's still a lot of cool stuff & good tracks in the Pass, the bad track picks, namely the over-saturation of the Tour city courses, really dragged down the quality & enjoyment for me.

I am still kind of hoping that there's still enough chance for Nintendo to consider a 2nd smaller DLC Pass with the Tour tracks/content still missing, namely as sort of a compromise, but that doesn't seem super likely.

Re: Sega Explains Why Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection Costs $80

DM7Dust

@Browny

Oh yeah, the sale thing was exactly what I was thinking, especially considering Sega & Atlus do those a lot.

Not to mention $80 for all 3 games sounds like a steal compared to the $200 EO3 goes for on the original DS.

EO1 & 2 got PAL releases unlike 3 (well actually, EO2 DS didn't get a PAL version, whereas EO Untold 2 did, but still),
& from what I can tell the prices for those are a lot better.

That said, I do already have Untold 1 & 2, as well as Nexus, on 3DS already, so if I do end up getting this, it'll probably just be 3, unless I can get the collection for a sizeable discount.

Regardless, I think it's great that these games are getting a re-release, & I'm hoping it does well enough that Sega/Atlus do the same with 4, 5, the 2 Untold games, Nexus, etc.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Sonic Origins

DM7Dust

@Orokosaki There's been lots of games that have bugs over the years. In fact, back then, it was worse since they needed to re-release the game in order to fix it. At least now they can release patches to fix issues without needing to reissue the game.

That said, I'm hoping they do announce an estimated time table for any future patches/updates soon, because while I haven't seem anything that couldn't be fixed with a restart, the bugs I have seen are a little concerning to me.

Re: Dark Dungeon-Crawler 'Mistover' Being Removed From Sale At End Of June

DM7Dust

The odd thing is that ArcSys only published the game in Japan, so the only thing that should be an issue outside of the country is maybe the Faust DLC, which honestly seems like a simple fix of just changing the character to an original one Krafton would own.

In any case, I'm hoping this is only temporary, and the game eventually gets republished/licensed so people can still enjoy it.

In the meantime, there were physical copies for PS4 and Switch in Japan, so I'll probably see if I could get one of those if I can't get a digital copy before June 30th.

Re: Soapbox: Please, Please, Please Release Sonic Advance Trilogy On Nintendo Switch Online

DM7Dust

@BloodyMurder https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicTheHedgehog/comments/h9aj28/so_thq_nordic_doesnt_seem_to_own_the_publishing/

I'm thinking what could be holding Sega back as to re-releasing the games is 1: having issues getting GBA emulation to work with modern hardware, and 2: not really seeing it as worth the effort profit-wise since GBA games can be easily emulated on PC and mobile, and since re-releases of the Genesis games (and Mania) sell well enough on their own.

Though that didn't stop Konami and Capcom from re-releasing GBA games on multiple systems, and M2 worked with Sega on various ports, so I do think an Advance Collection is possible, I'm just thinking Sega's probably waiting on how well Origins goes before any future plans are made for re-releases.

Re: Soapbox: Please, Please, Please Release Sonic Advance Trilogy On Nintendo Switch Online

DM7Dust

@ShadowofTwilight22 @BloodyMurder

From what I've heard, THQNordic said that the rights have gone back to Sega already back in 2019.

Not to mention the Advance Trilogy has been rereleased on Wii U in Japan, so there's nothing stopping them from rereleasing the games there, at the very least.

That said, I doubt THQ would want to or be in any actual position to block any sort of rerelease to begin with, since they seem to have rereleasing/remastering older games as a big part of their current catalogue, and because they don't have any ownership of Sonic to begin with.

Sidenote: I'm sort of thinking about importing a Japan region Wii U so I can get the digital versions of the Advance trilogy, though that'll depend on whether or not I can get a decent price for it.

Re: Soapbox: Please, Please, Please Release Sonic Advance Trilogy On Nintendo Switch Online

DM7Dust

@duffmmann @Grumblevolcano

I would LOVE for Sega to do a Sonic Advance Collection, like how Capcom & Konami have re-released several of their Game Boy/Advance library in recent years, probably as a sequel to their upcoming Sonic Origins Collection.

But I think that they'll probably show up on NSO first, and then the 2nd Sonic Origins Collection will likely focus on Sonic's Game Gear titles (Sonic 1 & 2 8-bit, Chaos, Triple Trouble, Blast, etc.), which I'd be okay with since I think those games are good under their own merits.

I also really hope ends up they also do a port of Sonic Pocket Adventure for Switch/Steam like they've been doing with other Neo Geo Pocket Color games, because that's one of the few Sonic games I don't have, and I'd love to get a copy of it.

Re: Uh-Oh, Chocobo GP's Season Pass Is Ruffling A Few Feathers With Fans

DM7Dust

@MatoFilipovic CTR had pretty much everything from the PS1 game & the Nitro Kart/new tracks unlockable without needing to grind/buy currency, and (from what I can tell), was considered a more polished game overall. No making characters from the PS1 game locked behind the Season Pass like how Square's doing with Cloud & Squall (at the time of this writing), for example.

Re: Japan Gets Special Edition Of Klonoa On Switch Which Includes Drinking Glasses

DM7Dust

@accc You can still burn the songs to a blank CD, even with the digital soundtrack.

@Zeropulse @GravyThief @SMW Heard both GBA games are solid 2D platformers, haven't played them myself, though I do plan to at some point.

I'd reccomend getting it on Wii U as well, especially if Nintendo actually goes through with the Wii U/3DS eShop shutdown, since the prices for the GBA carts on eBay seem far too high.

I'd imagine you'll still be able to find decently priced carts with enough patience and a keen eye, and I'd imagine Namco would probably do rereleases/remasters of them as part of a Phantasy Reverie 2 at some point, but I'd try to get the Wii U versions before taking the risk.

Also, while I have no desire to import it myself, the Special Edition looks pretty cool.

Re: Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Won't Be Getting An Important Online Upgrade On Switch

DM7Dust

@Neoicelord That's kind of what I was thinking. In all honestly, this isn't too much of a deal breaker for me. At least the ports still have online at all, let alone rollback for PS4/Steam, and $30 for a portable version of Ultimax with all the DLC bundled in is still a great deal. That said, I do hope Atlus eventually considers adding rollback for the Switch version, if possible.

Re: Video: 7 Legacy Sonic Games That Were Never Rereleased

DM7Dust

Actually, Sonic Heroes & the Sonic Advance trilogy were digitally re-released.

The PS2 version of Sonic Heroes is on the European & Japanese Playstation Store(s) for PS3,

And the Sonic Advance trilogy is on the Japanese Nintendo eShop for Wii U.

Also, i know this isn't really the same thing, but i believe all the Sonic games released for the original Xbox, including Heroes, are backwards compatible with the Xbox 360.

The video's still cool, though.
I'd love to have a re-release of Sonic Pocket Adventure on Switch via the Neo Geo Pocket Selection.
