@Drake- Wow, I don't know what's more impressive. That you got one of the goodie bags, or that if you would have sent the code 5 minutes later, you wouldn't have recieved it. Talk about a close call... This is just more incentive to get the game as soon as possible. Can't wait to get it!
Wow, for the first week in quite a while, there finally seems to be an update that satisfies everyone on some level. Although I was doubtful that MM was going to come out, I'm glad that it did, and I can't wait to play it. Also, with Crystal Defenders R1 in the Top 10, I wonder how the two will coexist in the top 20. Does anyone think that R2 will be in the top 20 with R1, or am I the only one that thinks that the two won't be in the top 20 together?
@Tony- Yeah, it reminded me of games that I should have bought by now.
It's a shame that we don't get as many VC games that they get, since it seems like forever since a VC game over here has caught my interest. Let's hope that the 300th VC game is a good one.
Glad to see that this game is doing well. With Little King's Story, Swords and Soldiers, and Majora's Mask all in Europe, I'm starting to get a bit jealous of Europe. Hopefully this and/or Majora's Mask comes tomorrow (I have no preference, but I know there is the whole 300th VC game thing, so I'll hope for the best.)
Go XSEED! Also this could start a very interesting debate. What game would you choose, Phantasy Star or Ragnarok? I'll say Phantasy Star, but I'm not that interested in either one.
I've never even heard of Sparkster or Rocket Knight Adventures before, but I would love to try it, disc or download. Also, all for Rocket Knight Adventures on VC. Is there a retro review of the game?
I basically agree with GabeGreens. This is an interesting title that seems to be doing many things right. If they add in more music (a disco song would be hilarious) then I will consider buying this.
My opinions on this game... First off, I agree with Sean on getting FFIV before getting this. I have no idea who any of these characters are, and it would be nice to know what is really going on with this game before I try to play its sequel.
Second, I highly doubt that any of the downloadable chapters will cost less than 500 points apiece. I haven't seen any game (on Wiiware) that has cost less. That means with nine chapters that's $45 minimum. That's more than most disc games on the market right now (Excitebots, if I remember correctly, is only $35 with just the game.)
Third, I really believe the success of this episodic game could spell out the future of other possible episodic games. This is a highly touted game franchise with a great developer behind it. If this game turns out to be awful and dies out before it reaches, say, the fourth chapter, other companies are going to look at this game and not try to do an episodic game. However, if Square can not only sell all nine chapters, but sell them very well, than other companies might look at their success and try it themselves.
Fourth, if this game is going to be really successful, then I would highly recommend Square to release the chapters quickly between each chapter. Although I haven't played any FF games, I know that this series is highly touted for incredible stories, and if Square lingers too long to release the next game in the series, gamers are going to become uninterested in the story and not buy the next chapter.
So, in all, it better come cheap (in its own way), it better come quick between chapters, and it better come good, otherwise I don't think it'll work.
I thought that this was graveware, but I'm very excited to see that this is still coming. This game has been anticipated for so long that I'm glad Alten8 is still working on it. Good luck, Alten8.
WIth Pitfall and Swords and Soldiers, this sounds like a fantastic update...for Europe. Ah well, I should be busy until these come, but come soon, Swords and Soldiers!
(Edited out huge rant that this game is going to have to wait in line behind Cave Story, Swords and Soldiers, and any other random shovelware game before it gets released.)
I actually love the fact that all these loose ends are tied to one website so I wouldn't have to go from site to site to get all my news. This is my favorite website, and I have liked all the changes and weird events that have happened on the site. For example I check to see if Commander Video left any new news about the next Bit. Trip game, while asking what Contra game I should get (I decided on Contra 3), finding out that a new Pokemon game is coming out, and reading a really good review from Corbie on the latest releases. Although this is for WiiWareWorld's birthday, I'm kind of celebrating this as the one month celebration for Nintendo Life, and I'm hoping that this site stays around until next April Fools year so I can truly celebrate it's one-year anniversary. This is just my REALLY, REALLY long way of saying this site rocks, go Nintendo Life.
Congrats on the how the new game is coming, Gaijin. Every time I see something new from you guys, it always impresses me. Hope this game gets released bug-free and complaint-free!
Oh, and I agree with Accc. If more games are released like this, that would be amazing!
Wow (no pun intended), with the news of there being one out of every 5 people owning a DS in Japan (theoretically), and that Nintendo is second in the Develop Magazine's top 100 means that Nintendo is doing really well. Even though they dropped from first to second on the list, that's still really good. Just a question, though... where is Microsoft and Sony on the list (or are they not on the list at all?)
Edit: Wow, what a stupid question... or was it. I just checked the top 100 list on the website you posted (my bad), but I didn't see Microsoft or Sony on the list. Is that right?
Finally! I thought this series was never going to get remade. To me, after playing all the games (except Platinum), I consider this series the best, so if anyone is considering jumping into the series, these are games to get.
That said, I still have to get Platinum, but I'll get these when they come out. Since my family had both Gold and Silver, I don't know what one I'll get. Hmmm....
Like Prosody, I've never played Contra before (or any game like it), so I have to ask... would it be best to download Contra ReBirth, buy Contra 4, or try out another series like Metal Slug and work up to Contra?
I have not played Henry Hatsworth yet, but it looks amazing, and World of Goo is amazing. If Gray and Gabler create a game on par with their past projects, then it could be the "new" game I've been dreaming for.
I never got the bongos, so I incorrectly thought that it wouldn't be as fun without the bongos. By the time I realized that that isn't so, the game sold out, and I missed my chance. Hopefully I'll be able to get it this time round.
I think this could actually add to the fear factor. Just think, instead of having your trusty katana to protect you, even that will power down a few times, leaving you completely in the dark, an opportune time for a space zombie to pop on the screen and make gamers all over scream like a little girl. Who knows, this could actually be a really good upgrade.
I basically agree with ejamer. It's not that hard to get a "low" high score, and could be easily met with a few hours of practice. To be truthful, I sucked at the game, but through practice and repetition I've gotten to the final boss in Growth three times (and have lost all three times ) so, although difficult, the game is beatable (and, personally, more enjoyable with the high difficulty.)
Also, I would much rather have Bit. Trip: Core come out ASAP than have a patch for Bit. Trip: Beat and have a slight delay in Bit. Trip: Core. Not that a patch wouldn't be nice to have, but I like this new Bit. Trip, and it will be an instant download for me. Keep up the good work, Commander Video!
I agree with Dazza on the game. I played multiplayer at a friends house, and I ended up walking in circles while trying every button on the Wiimote+Nunchuk combo to see what did what. If the controls are fixed, I'll wait for it, but only if controls are fixed. Oh, and if the graphics in the video are in-game graphics, that would be amazing.
Hopefully E3 has more than just Pikman 3 (like a new F-Zero, Star Fox, or something else) but Pikman 3 would be a great side announcement for Nintendo.
I don't see what the problem is with Sony trying to use a controller like the Wiimote. I actually agree with Aaronsullivan (18) that people on the PS3 would like a controller like this. I think a more important question should be "what game is going to use this controller?" Since many games have already been released without motion sensing, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony players just ignore the controller and continued to play what ever they were playing. Unless this controller is included with a huge game (say...LBP 2), this controller will be unsuccessful on the PS3. Although I don't have a PS3, I do have a 360, and I wouldn't buy anything with motion sensing just for the fact that I'm happy with the games that I have right now that don't have motion sensing. So, my question to everyone here is... If these rumors are true, and you set aside the fact that Sony would rip off Nintendo by doing this, would you buy this controller on its own?
Absolute complete guess on the title. With the ominous cross, would it be too soon to call it Bit. Trip: Cross?
Also, I remember in a Nintendo channel interview with Gaijin that development for BTB only took about 4 months. Hopefully BT? will come August/September (considering the games are similar.)
Personally, I think this ad is brilliant. Do I agree with it? No. Do I think it's funny? No. Would I play the game without the ad? Yes (I love the game on Newgrounds.) Do I think that this is a great way to get attention from people that wouldn't know about the game otherwise? Absolutely. It does what an ad is supposed to do, therefore I think it's brilliant.
@Corbie- I saw a Super Meat Boy trailer on the Nintendo Channel.
I hope this is still Wiiware. There aren't any games currently released on Wiiware that is a "fighting" game, and Overturn looks like it won't come for quite a while, so this might tide me over until Overturn comes out.
Oh, that's my bad, then. I misunderstood what the MotionPlus was. Thanks for the notices. On topic... I'm glad this game is (currently) doing well. Hopefully, since Exkee a French developer, it will come to America quickly after Europe.
@KeeperBvK- Motion plus would benefit this game since the game uses the Wii pointer, and since there will be tons of color-swapping it would be frustrating if the current sensor missed the fact that you wanted the characters to combine into a new color, therefore having both characters get shocked. Yes, you could also play with the other control options, but there (hopefully) shouldn't be a difference between preference of gameplay.
This looks really cool. However, this game should include the Motion Plus for optimal gameplay. Did Exkee say anything about Motion Plus in their game, Corbie?
I was beginning to worry that something might of happened to this game, since it's been some time since we've had an update for this game. To me, as long as the play mechanics are good, then the game will be a must-buy to me.
@jangonov- There are actually huge novels commited to the Halo series, so I don't think it's that generic.
Also, I'm surprised a university-level profesor hasn't reconized a connection between great literature and videogames until now. I don't know many great RPG's that have weak storylines, let alone storylines from other genres (Metal Gear, Half-Life, Zelda are just a few good examples.) Also, how has no one on this comment board mentioned The World Ends With You? My favorite story in a videogame by far (to date.)
I doubt that this E3 is going to be anything like the last E3. The whole E3 event was bad last year (even though the games from Microsoft and Sony were good), so I'm just going to think that Nintendo had an off year like they did. Also, for my wish of what's going to happen this year, I'm hoping for...something completely different. A brand-new mascot game (a game with a character that can sell multiple games for multiple generations, like the Mario series, the Link series, the Samus series, etc...) Not that I don't want a F-Zero game or a Star Fox game, but if Nintendo wants to reel in this casual gamer crowd, they should attempt to create a new mascot game like a Mario or a Sonic in terms of publicity and marketability that this new generation of gamers can cling onto and say "Hey, is that a (insert name here) game?..." and be interested in. Also, there weren't that many mascot games for the Gamecube (all I can think of is Pikmin and Animal Crossing), so we are in need of fresh material.
For a moment I felt like posting the following comment... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Thankfully, I can still look forward to playing this game. This is one of the very few disc releases that I'm really waiting for, but I am concerned about XSEED's other games. Little King Story, if my memory is correct, was supposed to come out already, but was delayed an extra 5 months. Hopefully XSEED still can publish the games WolfRamHeart is talking about, since they lost a ton of (future) profit by not publishing Muramasa, and these two games still look very interesting.
Edit: @WolfRamHeart- Ignition has a very good recent history with Wii Games. They have published Mercury Meltdown Revolution (9/10 on Nintendolife), Samurai Shodown Anthology (9/10), Metal Slug Anthology (8/10), SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 (8/10), and King of Fighters Collection: Orochi Saga (7/10). For now, this game is in good hands.
I don't exactly understand Nintendo's methodology. I understand why they're waiting for Majora's Mask to be the 300th download, but it doesn't make sense that they're giving us crap for the VC. If anything, it's turning gamers away from the VC (casual and hardcore) and just cutting the amount of profit that they're going to recieve for Majora's Mask (since no one will be checking the shop channel, therefore not realizing that MM comes out.)
Other than VC, it was an ok week for everyone else. Although I loathe the fact that we recieve one game a week again, Crystal Defenders does look fairly good (even though it will cost $16 in the end.) Dr. Mario is always a good game (I believe it's still on the Wii Top 20), and hopefully the DSi gets two games a week (at least) in the future.
One last thought- How are we so convinced that MM is the 300th VC game? For all we know it could be Wonder Boy 4 (if there is one.) Is there an article to relieve my suspicious nerves? Otherwise I'm just going to think that this VC is going to be given crap next week (or whenever the game is going to be released.)
@Kristof- Congrats on Equilibrio. If I'm correct, it still is in the top 20, which is a great achievement.
On topic- Another things that we also need to remember is that the term shovelware is highly opinionated. Yes, there are bad games out on Wiiware, but there are also games that might have gotten poor reviews, but are still loved by gamers. A prime example of this is Boingz, which recieved a 3 from Corbie, but many other people thought otherwise. Also, some people think that World of Goo is shovelware, even though it is the only game to recieve a perfect score on this website. These games are created with the attempt to entertain gamers of all different sorts, and I never think a game company tries to create "shovelware", since it takes a ton of time and effort to create one of these games (just ask the Steel Penny guys.) It's fine if you think a certain game is shovelware, but make sure you do some research on that game before you call it shovelware and not just see someone else call it shovelware and think it's shovelware yourself, since that game could be way better than you expect (Bonsai Barber.)
I'm not in full agreement with this rule. Sure, maybe Nintendo should take some of the profit from an unsuccessful company, but not all the profit. Yes, this does prevent some shovelware from getting on WiiWare, but ultimately this is a counter-intuitive system. A company might produce a shovelware game, but if they recieve some of the profit, they can use that profit to produce another game that might become a classic. This is unlikely, but Nintendo is run by Shigeru Miyamoto, a man who helped develop Radar Scope (a so-so successful game), then created Donkey Kong (an uber successful game). If this happened to Shigeru, why can't it happen to someone else?
I'm hoping that this game has online play, but I'll probably get it even if it doesn't. I'm a sucker for racing games, and even without online play this game would still have 8-player multiplayer, so I'm excited. Hopefully it comes out as soon as possible.

Re: Check Out Some Final Fantasy IV: The After Years Gameplay
My opinions on this game...

Not that I don't want a F-Zero game or a Star Fox game, but if Nintendo wants to reel in this casual gamer crowd, they should attempt to create a new mascot game like a Mario or a Sonic in terms of publicity and marketability that this new generation of gamers can cling onto and say "Hey, is that a (insert name here) game?..." and be interested in. Also, there weren't that many mascot games for the Gamecube (all I can think of is Pikmin and Animal Crossing), so we are in need of fresh material.
Re: Muramasa: The Demon Blade Loses North American Publisher
Re: Nintendo Download: Dr. Mario, Wonder Boy, More Magic Tricks and Crystal Defenders (US)
I don't exactly understand Nintendo's methodology.
Re: Some WiiWare Developers Won't Get Paid
Re: Some WiiWare Developers Won't Get Paid
Re: Konami Announces Driift for WiiWare
I'm hoping that this game has online play, but I'll probably get it even if it doesn't. I'm a sucker for racing games, and even without online play this game would still have 8-player multiplayer, so I'm excited. Hopefully it comes out as soon as possible.
Re: Review: Equilibrio (WiiWare)
@Corbie: I couldn't agree with the score more. It's a good game at a great price, and the review reflects that nicely. Well done, Corbie.
Oh, and hopefully the other reviewer is all right.
