Smashmouth Games has just announced that their flash-based rhythm/action game Ongaku is headed to Nintendo's WiiWare service later this year.
With the recent popularity of these rhythm/action games, it comes as no surprise to see them make this announcement. You can check out a snippet of information taken from their official website to get a little insight into the game.
Ongaku is a music based computer game. This genre of game is known as a 'Rhythm Action' game. The player controls a musical character called Ongaku. The player must hit notes in time to the music which are represented on screen as coloured gems, colour then disperses onto the background canvas and paints a picture. Any notes missed result in the creation of a Feedback Monster, which then damages Ongaku's health. The goal of the game is to paint a complete picture on the background canvas for each of the game's levels
We'll have more information on Ongaku as it becomes available, as well as a full review when the game hits the WiiWare service.

No, not another music game.
My first second! lol
YEAH! I love the flash Ongaku (as a curiosity, ongaku means music in japanese ), but I've always hated to play it with the keyboard, I can't wait for it to come out on wiiware.
No, not another music game.
First people hated puzzle games due to not 5 minutes going by without someone releasing a Bejeweled clone. Then people hated music games becuase those plastic peripheral based ones were released at alarming rate.
The problem with this hate is people became blind about the games themselves and just discrimited based on genre. Wait, what music games are there on WiiWare anyway? Bit Trip beat and Aero Guitar (Japan only) are all that come to mind but its pretty late here...
As for Ongaku, from the screenshots it looks like your standard timing the presses game but with a more visual feedback system (rather than bar and score). Since the word flash based was said I guess I should check out the original to see if there was something I missed.
Yet more cool villains!
By the way, is not Mother 3 part music-game due to the "Sound Battle System" (which was my favourite part of Mother 3, by the way)?
I like the way this looks. Hopefully it'll help hold me over until Sega finally decides to release a new Space Channel 5.
WOOT MY FIRST SEVENTH POST!
oh yeah this looks decent
Yay, more music games!
Another music game on Wiiware would be Helix (a great game that in hard gives you one heck of a work out).
Looking forward to this game. Hopefully it will translate properly into Wiiware.
This is only the 3rd music game on wiiware...it looks okay so far. Low price points win sales, HINT HINT!
It makes a good impression to me; I look forward to this title.
I love the flash game, hope it's reasonably priced.
When I saw the headline and wasn't paying attention, I thought I read "Smashmouth Game announced" and I thought, great, so now we'll have a rhythm game with tracks like You're an All-Star?? Count me out.
Then I click on it and realized my mistake.
Agree with Starwolf. I have no problem with numerous puzzlers or rhythm action games. Especially since many of them have been quite good! Decent puzzle games are very rare on retail wii titles anyway.
This looks as if it can be quite good. I haven't heard of Smashmouth Games before. I'll have to look that one up.
