If Jax plays undocked that may be the issue. The problem is definitely random - sometimes it's gone all night just fine, without connecting - but even so I can't help but notice that mine has never crashed outside of the dock. But there's every possibility that's only random chance.

It seems pretty universal to me. However, the problem seems to have additional wrinkle in that it has to do with having or not having an internet connection, apparently. Probably not having it is what causes it, or at least that seems to line up with my experience.

Nintendo Online: literally crashing your console.

@headfirstslide

So have I, the problem started happening recently. I've had difficulty Googling it because the name "Switch" is hell on search results, but I found quite a few people with the same issue on Reddit and Gamefaqs.

Honestly thought it was just a Mega Man 11 bug at first until BOTW started closing too. And I'm not even talking about long times -I went to grab a drink once and came back to a Switch powered off.

FWIW, this may only occur in docked mode.

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

@Anti-Matter

"Animal Crossing for Switch, even you don't like the game."

Huh? I freaking adore Animal Crossing. As I adore Metroid Prime and FE. But how am I supposed to be excited for a white screen with a vague release date that is very likely not even accurate?

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

BLD

It was pretty trash. Tons of ports, and hey, frankly, 1 or 2 are interesting. But still, literally 90% ports. By and large if I wanted those games I'd already have them.

We all knew the online would be a disappointment, but Nintendo kept teasing new details... err, like what exactly? The ability to pay more for NES controls?

So then we got 2 new actual Nintendo games- the reason we're here. Except Luigi's Mansion got no details save for a trailer that looked VERY early. Animal Crossing got absolutely nothing. Remember when Fire Emblem got a 2018 release date last year? Not happening. Remember how Metroid Prime was announced with no details over a year ago and we haven't heard back since?

So why should I be excited for 2 games we know nothing about?

Re: Fans' Passion For Waluigi's Smash Exclusion Is "Fantastic", Says Nintendo's Andrew Collins

BLD

@Syrek24

I have to wonder where you get your statistics from here. "the majority of his fanbase are just cancerous".

Have you ever seen those comments on news articles or the like, usually articles about an ISIS terrorist attack or something. And some moron in the comments will screech "Hah, see? Now I don't hate all Muslims or anything- I'm no racist! BUT, it's undeniable that most of them are cancerous!" That's what you sound like.

If you're about to say "whoa dude why did you just take the conversation there", ask yourself why it's OK to make sweeping generalizations about one group and not another.

Crazy thought, 99.99% of people who like Waluigi, who like any character or anything, are probably not "cancerous". But do you really want to hear a news story about "Waluigi fan #6350 makes quiet dinner at home"?

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

BLD

@Yoshi87

Absolutely, and I did say that there were people being jerks beyond an acceptable difference in opinion. But I'm also seeing it go both ways. You need look no further than @SBandy for a sample of the sort of venom that some users are spitting with abandon due to their perceived moral high ground.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

BLD

@Saego

How is it black and white at all? There's a sliding scale, is what I said. You quoted it.

I think most everyone would agree that if Nintendo HQ suffered casualties, of course a Direct would be delayed. That's entirely understandable. If a Direct were cancelled due to some minor inconvenience across the world, most everyone would agree that's a ridiculous reason to cancel. Both hypotheticals vary wildly in scale and distance. I see a lot of people acting like everyone who disagrees with them belongs to one of these extremes. Like people who think the Direct shouldn't have been cancelled are wholly insensitive monsters who would demand the Direct continue, absolutely no matter what.

When the truth is, none of us called it insensitive when the Direct was announced in the wake of a massive typhoon. Therefore I think it's fair to conclude that vast majority of us have opinions that fall far closer together than the hyperbolic vitriol being flung around would imply.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

BLD

@Saego

Sure, but again I'll note the recent typhoon that actually more directly impacted the area of Nintendo's headquarters. I don't think anybody here was shouting at Nintendo for being insensitive enough to air a Direct just days after that event.

Obviously you can't look at these disasters in a vacuum, there's a cumulative effect here, and Nintendo's decision is the sum of all the recent tragedies.

But while I see a lot of comments rightly pointing out the fallacy of comparing this to a New York /California situation because of the distance involved, I think it's worth asking what the limit is, here. Is an event in Chicago "close enough " to cancel something in New York? What about Maine? Of course the answer depends on details like the scale of the event in question. And of course its a highly personal opinion, but that's the point.

In short, I think it's entirely unfair to attack people just for being disappointed about the Direct. Unless they were just being jerks in general, which people on both sides of this debate definitely have been. There's a sliding scale between "Massive casualties at Nintendo HQ" and "Nintendo Direct cancelled because random man stubbed toe across world ". People are going to have their own thresholds on when it's appropriate and respectful to delay something. But I see way too much demonization and polarization in this conversation, and a small part of that is definitely this notion that wanting the Direct and having sympathy for the tragedy are mutually exclusive.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

BLD

@Reyes

I do agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I'm also seeing certain individuals, who I know don't live in Japan, and I doubt plan on donating or helping in any way, doing quite a bit of moral grandstanding on those who dare to express any disappointment regarding the Direct. That's really what I'm trying to address, I guess.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

BLD

@Reyes

"but I rather people affected by an earthquake take time to make sure their loved ones are safe"

Again, I don't see why a prerecorded Direct would prevent anyone from doing that.

It goes without saying that this is a tragedy, but lest we forget, this Direct was anounced during a massive typhoon. Nintendo didn't seem too concerned about respect then. Now, I'm not saying the events are comparable in scale, we really don't know yet. Obviously it's hard times for Japan all around.

But although the loss of life and livelihood is of course exponentially more important than games, or news about games, I think it's extremely unfair to imply that people who are disappointed about the Direct are asking for some Nintendo employee to do a live performance or something when they could be checking on their family instead.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

BLD

@Yoshi87

I don't doubt that, but is the Direct not finished in advance? Those employees would still be totally free to take time off as needed to care for their families. Live events, of course, would be a different matter.

But unless the main game they wanted to show off would somehow come across as insensitive after the quake, I feel like this is largely a business decision. The stocks are in a bit of turmoil now, the Direct wouldn't really have a huge positive impact for Nintendo right now.

Re: A Five Nights At Freddy's Console Port Deal Has Been Signed, Switch Games On The Way?

BLD

The games aren't for me but I really do respect Scott. He took harsh criticism about how the art in his previous project looked creepy, and said "OK, it'll be great for this horror game then." The games do get samey, but he did try to shake things up somewhat, and they're all exceptionally cheap purchases anyway. And when FNAF World bombed, the man made the game free, refunded everyone, sincerely promised to do better, and spent at least a year or so doing just that, improving the game.

He's not some godly developer, but he takes criticism really well and I respect him immensely for that.

Re: Video: Check Out Dark Souls: Remastered Running In Handheld Mode On Switch

BLD

People are concerned because it looked like, for once, Switch was getting a popular triple-A title same day as other consoles. That's pretty important for the console going forward, even if you don't like Dark Souls.

So now not only has it been delayed just shy of half a year, anyone looking to get into he series now has to contend with a massively better deal being offered on other consoles. Technical reasons aside, it just doesn't look good to have the entire trilogy offered on the other consoles, and only a single game on Switch.

The fact that it echoes Mass Effect 3 on Wii U doesn't help matters, either.

Re: Video: See King K. Rool, Dark Samus And Chrom Battle It Out In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

BLD

@Kmno @syrek24

The only condescension i see here is from people who are attacking @spaceboyscreams for daring to try and get @jockmajon into the game. Spaceboy didn't just come in and go "hurr durr items" - they were responding to someone who said the game looked "far to manic for me", and so they mentioned that the items responsible for a lot of the manic feel can be turned off, and that there's a thriving community for such a competitive playstyle.

And syrek, I'm curious if you intentionally misquoted "this party mode does not represent the game's appeal to the competitive scene. ", or if they edited in those last few words later.

Re: Chrom And Dark Samus Appear As Echo Fighters In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

BLD

@Yorumi

That's just wacky to the point that I'm not even sure you read my message.

Like, what about the sheer number of characters who use fists? Are you going to compare Luigi to Ryu? No, of course not. Link, Pit, Shulk, Ike, Robin, and Marth all use swords in very different ways. The only reason so many FE characters play alike is because it's an easy way to pay homage to a fraction of the series. But since you apparently want the devs to spend even more time making more unique FE fighters, then hey, I gave you plenty of options.
