Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 Plans Are Full of Tantalising Potential

I still think they should have brought something to e3 live such as 3ds games while having a wii u direct. Nonetheless, the Smash Bros. invitational is the best thing they could have done because let's face it: after MK8 is released Smash is the only must-have wii u game in 2014. I think the invitational will spark plenty of interest in smash too.

@arkady77 uh...what? Did I miss something? You claimed that "Asia Pacific" was the greatest market for video games. Others along with myself posted information making you factually wrong. You cried and called us trailer park boys (which I assume is an insult) and "left".

NL is pretty good at keeping offensive and insulting comments to a minimum and remove said comments quickly, so I honestly have no idea what you're talking about in regards to comments on this site. If anything, you're the one who resorted to the lowest common denominator by insulting @KennyPowers.

@AlexSora89 I'm psyched too that for the first time in a while, smash is getting the center stage. Hopefully it's not the only worthwhile game at e3, but that's pretty much the only one we know of as of now. Yarn Yoshi, X, Bayo, and FExSMT all look decent too, but one is bound to be released in 2015. I'm hoping yarn yoshi is closest to being finished. For some reason, it's the only other wii u game in development other than smash that's exciting to me personally and usually I think Yoshi games are mediocre in comparison to other nintendo franchises. The others I listed seem good, but not my style.

@KennyPowers I think Arkady is just a 13 year old kid or something maybe a troll. Just ignore him if he bothers you, but he doesn't bother me so I will generally respond to him.
@arkady77 Business major from one of the best public business colleges in the country here. Guess what: America is the largest market. Sure, Japan may have a more population dense for video games, but it does not make as much money as the US.

I'm psyched for smash bros at best buy, but it's a really dumb idea for nintendo to skip out of a traditional press conference again. Even if they just showed upcoming 3ds games at a traditional conference would be good. You can't create the same reaction or hype with a nintendo direct as you can with a press conference.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

@Unca_Lz I think they ignored the hardcore fanbase to a large extent because they thought they could ride out that wii sports/fit crowd for a lot longer than they really could.
Wii music was a perfect example of trying to please the casual audience over hardcore fans. It was fine for a while, but once they tried to cross over the hardcore games with casual tendencies such as nintendoland, it was made a poorer experience than it should have been. Nintendoland as an idea is amazing and the perfect game to introduce and gather interest of various franchises, but it's execution was made way too casual. Sure it's fun to play with friends at a party once in a while, but who is going to play nintendoland at a tourney?

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

@Tobias95 Also I want to support nintendo as well. I think they have the best company in the entertainment business, better than Sony, Disney, Fox, Microsoft, Apple, you name it. Problem is, I won't support them when they are not creating good material. The failure of the wii u should be a wakeup call for nintendo to know that gamers have had it with ignoring the hardcore gamers. The only games that have been released to non-casuals so far have been pikmin 3, Earthbound on VC, and W101.

@DarkKirby while I see graphics and processing power help make a good game, I totally agree that they aren't requirements. That's why anyone who attacks nintendo for having inferior graphics is wrong. Nintendo's all about games, unfortunately there's not many to count. Wii sports is a great example of a poor quality game but yet still one fun to play.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

@arkady77 if you think WWHD is better than OOT, New Mario U is better than SMB3 or SMW, Game and Wario is better than Warioware touched, DKCTF is better than DCK and DCK2; then you have objectively poor taste in gaming.

@tobias95 I can completely respect you for thinking the 3ds is the best handheld. While I'm not 100% in agreement with that, at least the 3ds has an amazing lineup of games like Kid Icarus, Awakening, X/Y, and ACNL. The Wii U has had very few groundbreaking games, unlike every other console other than the Virtual boy.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

Dr. Luigi and Game and Wario aren't complete games. Dr. Luigi is a nice thing to have on the eshop for some zen-like gaming, along with NES remix too, but at the end of the day, it's not a full game. I wouldn't call Dr. Luigi a rehash necessarily because of the limits of creativity of the puzzle genre, but I wouldn't give it credit as a groundbreaking game either.

G&W was priced at a cheaper rate than other wii u games for a reason. It can be fun, but it's not something you can play for a hundred hours.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

2Sang

@Tobias95 you are among the small minority then, because if there's dissent on a site dedicated to nintendo, imagine how negatively the video game industry as a whole is viewing nintendo. I'm happy with the 3ds, but the pii u has been nintendo's worst home console to date by a longshot. It's on pace to sell half of the gamecube's sales, and only 3 good games are left to move a large amount of consles for the wii u, which 2 of them being smash and zelda are not going to do as much to move sales as most are thinking because of WWHD and Smash for 3ds.

@steamtrain ok now I get it. I never understood how game freak operated. Please understand.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

2Sang

@RoomB31 that's still questionable. As long as it's profitable, it's fine, but Only like 6-7 million units have been sold so far and the only 3 big releases left to sell systems are smash (which will be significantly decreased due to the 3ds version being released first), MK8, and Zelda U.
MK8 looks positioned to sell at least a few hundred thousand wii u's, and smash will probably sell a little less than MK8 now that it's not a wii u exclusive. The only game left to shift the console is Zelda, and even Zelda won't be a miracle because many zelda fans have picked up WWHD in order to help move units.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

I hope Iwata blows us away at e3. He's in a tough spot, I can forgive him for the failure of the wii u personally because he brought us the genius of the DS, 3DS, and Wii. 3/4 amazing consoles is a pretty good track record. Also, Nintendo's a business and it's bottom line, so his idea of quality of life to bring in more money is likely another very good idea, although probably not very beneficial to us nitnendo gamer fans other than nintendo continuing to exist as a company.

Re: Greninja Strikes a Pose in These Super Smash Bros. Screens

2Sang

Greninja is such a cool looking fighter, but man he is the definition of flavor of the week. I hope that gamefreak adjusts their promotional pokemon to include greninja so he actually is important for more than 1 generation. I don't want another jigglypuff in smash bros in 3 installments later.

Re: GameStop Plans to Close Around 120 Stores in the Coming Year

2Sang

@AshFoxX They should definitely go back to old titles. It's the only way they can differentiate themselves from the walmarts and bestbuys. I mean, how much space do gameboy and gamecube games take? Especially in how much they can turn around a profit from each one because walmart and bestbuy cant be bothered with such small niches.

Re: Ubisoft and EA Lock In Their E3 Presentation Details

2Sang

Only care about Ubi, EA can go bankrupt for all I care. The only game series they ever made worthwhile was MVP baseball. Other than that, they just repeat the same stuff over and over again. At least there isn't a "New" Super Mario Bros. game every year. I think the video game industry would be better off without EA honestly. They just dilute the game pool with shovelware and remakes every year.

Re: Nintendo of America is Cutting the Price of Five Top 3DS Games

2Sang

This is what I think almost all games should be priced at. $40 is way too much in my opinion, especially remakes and sequels that are similar al a New super mario bros. 2.

Only games with peripherals or extra content like Smash Bros should cost $40. I find myself buying eshop games as they're much better value, even if I'm more hyped about 3ds games like 3d land or Pilotwings.
