Everyone's getting all upset, but you're all forgetting that these are early bug/pikachu clone/early route Pokemon. In what game have those Pokemon ever looked good? Hoothoot? Ugly. Ratatta? Freaking abhorrent. Bellsprout? Ewwww it has a kissy mouth and it's so thin! Zigzagoon? Serviper? Plusle/Minun? USELESS.
My point is, there hasn't ever been a generation where ugly distasteful Pokemon weren't introduced or pretty much plentiful. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos: they all have pathetic or undesirables, and there are usually only a few actually useful ones that'll work on a team against the E4. That's just the truth of it. I wouldn't get all bent out of shape over bug Pokemon, they're always useless for the most part anyway.
Pachter gets a lot of scorn around here, but he was pretty spot on with his Wii U predictions. Honestly, I think he knows the current market and how it works better than fans on this site. I also think that Nintendo games started losing that magical Nintendo touch ever since the Wii days. The new Zelda feels like a return to actual Nintendo levels of quality.
No, you absolutely DON'T want your system to be extremely unique. It makes porting a lot harder, which means you'll have a lot less third-party support Nintendo.
@AlternateButtons Problem: Hyrule is already an established name for the landmass in BotW, and the Temple of Time has already been constructed AND worn down, putting it indefinitely after OoT no matter what.
@Ashthearcher You mean when no Hero showed up to save Hyrule once Ganondorf escaped from the sacred realm because that Link was in a different timeline, so the world was flooded immediately after...? Because that makes a lot of sense... /s
@DiscoGentleman Some really weird Nintendo gamers don't like lore or proper world building. They still have that 80's-90's mindset that games are all gameplay and no story. We like to ignore undesirables like that.
Actually, put it after Zelda II. Maybe this is why the decline timeline came to be. The true hero's been in stasis after being defeated/knocked out and Hyrule fell apart. Perhaps he was hidden and put into stasis so that one day he'd awake again to save Hyrule. Other heroes come and defeat Ganon in several times, but he always comes back because they're not the true Link. Perhaps this is why the name is locked this time. Why it's all character specific. This is THE legendary Hero.
@Yorumi I kind of like them showing off the beauty of Hyrule and the new gameplay elements, but they really should have made the trailer show off a few story elements and interaction with NPCs while still keeping the game at large a mystery in order to make up for all of that not being in the demo. Oh well. I guess all there is to do right now is wait for an actual story trailer.
The story better be amazing if they're keeping even little fragments of it a secret.
@BensonUii I think that what @Yorumi is trying to convey is that in an industry where developers have recently started to bluff and blatantly lie frequently, without having any negative repercussions, it just isn't safe to trust what anyone says yet, and that observation is everything. I personally think we should wait a bit longer before getting cynical, but there is a huge justification for those who are being skeptical.
Then again, demo builds have often been like this, so I think there are two sides to this, both completely legitimate in their fears and reassuring.
@Yorumi I'm not sure of you're watching the stream, but in case you're not, they just confirmed that all NPCs and towns are excluded from the E3 version in order to avoid spoilers of any kind. Minor or major. Sounds like we'll have a lot of smaller camps and villages, not just By rule Castle. That's very welcomed indeed.
@CharlieSmile I still play Metroid games, even though I'm not the same gender as Samus. Honestly, gender should be a non-issue in games that aren't RPGs and aren't about character customization. It's sexist to dislike a game just because its character is male. I hate sexism, on either side. I especially hate hypocrites. I like justice, and I like true equality. That is all.
@NIN10DOXD But you're just saying that because you hate the direction regardless. If people like this game, chances are they're always going to like it.
Not to mention, this'll really appeal to the masses, which means more sales than traditional Zelda titles, which means you'll become the minority and you'll either have to drop the franchise, or get used to a more complex kind of Zelda game.
@NIN10DOXD OoT, WW, TP, and SS were pretty much all the same game retooled. Zelda is exactly the same way. Until now. Now they're branching out and actually adding variety to the gameplay and everything else.
@NIN10DOXD Because it's immersive. There's no reason that Zelda shouldn't have this feature just because it's been done, in fact, that pretty much means that Zelda should have it, because it would be archaic not to. Especially for a game series that relies so much on immersion and adventure.
@NIN10DOXD @ProfessorToad You know what? Survival sounds nice. The puzzles are still there, the adventuring is still there. If you were watching the Treehouse steam you'd know that. Survival added onto that? Sign me up. Game of the year.
@NIN10DOXD What the heck is wrong with MS and Sony? Nothing. They're both great game companies with great games, like NIntendo.
@NIN10DOXD You're literally insulting the opinion of everyone else who likes this change. It is Zelda. Zelda is about puzzles and adventure. This takes that, and adds a whole bunch of new interesting elements to that.
@NIN10DOXD You don't get to decide what is and what isn't Zelda. Nintendo does. Just shut the heck up already. I swear everything that comes out of your mouth is an annoyance to the whole world.
This brings in the formula, while bringing in a whole bunch of new and better elements that really breathe fresh air into a stale series. Don't like it? Don't play it. This is already set to be the most diverse and fun to play Zelda game yet.
@Vegaphil Maybe to you and others, but to me and others it was. It was a very polarizing entry and a step back from Twilight Princess overworld-wise and even story-wise. The artstyle was also truthfully meh.
@Desrever How is that giving into SJWs? If anything it's looking at the fact that men are supposed to have long hair, scientifically speaking, and that it's an abnormal societal concept that we must cut our hair short. Not to mention most great medieval warriors like the Norse are often depicted with long hair. It just shows overall strength and health. A true warrior grows his mane out long.
@blujay1524 Those are the only types that work as flawlessly together as they do. Ghost types would be OP as a starting type, so would dark/fighting/psychic types. The whole reason for fire, water, and grass starters is so players can easily understand the rock/paper/scissors match ups. It's incredibly important that it remain this way, because it's extremely balanced as it is. If you want to use something else, just catch one of the other Pokemon out in the wild. It's not a big deal.
@Einherjar That's a stupid reason not to play. So you wouldn't play a sport just because you can't get a trophy? That's all event Pokemon are. They're commemorative trophies, special things that aren't even needed for pokedex completion. They just give you bragging rights.
Ugh, all of the cynical people in here. The kid had just moved to a new place that speaks a language he doesn't. I could understand your viewpoints IF if was some lonely kid who wasn't good at making friends in school because of anxiety, but that's not the case. It was just a nice little story of a kid who moved to a new place, and found common ground with other people. It's not like something similar hasn't happened to any of us. The message was that the main idea behind Pokemon is to bring people together, and that's truly what its been about this whole time, even before it became a big success. It was supposed to be something you and other people could form bonds over, as you trade and battle.
@Adamario They're most likely going to start rolling in the reveals throughout the next few months, specifically because they CAN'T show anything at E3. Nintendo makes the call on what gets shown at their conference/digital events. Considering they've specified that we're only getting Zelda, game reveals are probably a no-go.
@Moon Running out of ideas? So you try something new, and just because it's something you don't prefer they're automatically "running out of ideas"? Do you realize how flawed that logic is? They're not running out of ideas. The idea was to give old Pokemon new uses and adapt to the changing landscape that is competitive battling. It was an ingenious idea, and makes Pokemon like Charizard a lot more useful and viable than they previously were. It also allows you to do something special and cool with one of your team favorites. Just because a concept doesn't tickle you, doesn't mean that they're running out of ideas. It means you're too ignorant to see the practicality of the idea. You don't have to enjoy it, but being blind to the options the concept opens up is awful.
@NEW3DSXLISMINE Life may not be turn based, but board games and chess are. It's less about reflexes and more about strategy. It takes intelligence and a competitive nature to like an RPG.
@HerroThar I disagree, I love the cities. In fact, I want Pokemon encounters and other things to find in them. If they could make forests as aesthetically interesting as cities, I'd be okay with your idea, but for the most part forests and caves reek of "stereotypical video game dungeon design".
-Do not limit the amount of new Pokemon. I've used older Pokemon, and I don't want to use them again. If I want to use them I'll just transport them from Pokemon Bank. A new adventure should have a variety of new friends to choose from.
-EXP Share balance is required, and possibly improved AI.
-More Mega Evolutions, but not just for popular Pokemon. I want to see a wide variety, and I want designs that drastically alter the appearance of the Pokemon (ala Mega Gengar and Mega Swampert) considering that it only feels like a true evolution if something substantial changes aesthetically.
-Other Trainers using Mega Pokemon, especially on Victory Road.
-Post game stories like that of the Delta Episode, that was fantastic and lore heavy.
-An immersive plot, like Black and White's.
-The Battle Frontier
-A larger more varied customization feature including many different styles of clothing for both males and females, rather than just having a large focus on females and making males wear stereotypical t-shirts. Why should females be able to wear fancy vests/suits while males only get shirts?
-A facility in the Battle Frontier dedicated to the use of Legendary Pokemon.
@Savino Literally nothing was changed besides the resolution. They would look exactly like this if the 3DS had higher resolution screens. If you don't like how that looks, then you dislike how the games look themselves. What you see here is what the developers see when they make the games. In truth, the upscaled resolution is closer to their true vision for the games. The only time they deal with the lower resolution is when they test it out on the hardware.
I think this looks pretty good, and functions nicely.
All of you naysayers have awful opinions, and you're judging it based off of nothing. This game does what it sets out to do, and being bothered by little aesthetic things is just being outright nitpicky.
This doesn't feel very "Pokemon". The whole point of Pokemon is to battle, trade, and get stronger with animal-friends that you meet. What's the point of catching them if you can't evolve them naturally? Why should I have to catch multiples of the same Pokemon to evolve it when those other ones will go unloved? Where's the focus on creating bonds and friendships with the Pokemon you catch? This spits all over what Pokemon is about.
@Kirk That's because Gamefreak isn't making this. It was literally handed off to a third party developer. I wouldn't say it looks like a cheap cash grab, it most likely cost a lot of money and time to make, but you're right about it not following the design philosophy that the actual Pokemon development team follows.
Seriously, gimmicks are stupid. We just need a normal controller and good games. Gimmicks get in the way of well designed games. Skyward Sword was a mess, just like every other game on the Wii. I want to feel buttons, not move a controller through the air. Gaming is about being comfortable and relaxed, not stressed and moving all over the place. I exercise when I want, you know, exercise.
@CosmoXY Get off of your self-righteous white horse and stop white knighting. If you don't like my opinion, that's fine, but no matter how much you disagree with it you won't change it. I think this was a perfect opprotunity to reveal a trickle amount of information about Sun and Moon. When X and Y were revealed we got information at the exact same time we got the logos, and that was around the beginning of that year to boot. There's no reason why we can't expect to have at least a bit of information from the next games in Corocoro, and there wasn't any reason for it to feature Volcanion in any capacity for the third time in a row.
It was wasted potential, no matter what you want to argue. Going a whole month after hyping everyone up for the "reveal" is just bad marketing, because right now we don't really have any reason to be excited for Sun and Moon anyway.
@CosmoXY Your line of thinking makes no sense. You're literally talking about absolutely nothing. Yes they'll choose when to release info, no one said they wouldn't you mook. The point is that we want info, and this was a wasted opportunity to share new info considering we all know about Volcanion and they didn't have to dedicate a whole page to tell Japanese anime fans that there would be a distribution with tickets.
