Less games mean more people will buy the existing games making a huge profit for Nintendo. NSMB U has incredibly already sold 3.5 million copies. Considering the number of Wii U consoles out there that's a great attachment. It basically sold the same amount as Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us lol on an 80 million sold console.

Wow, interesting spin. Why doesn't Nintendo just release like 5 games a year then and force everyone to buy them if they want to use their Wii U at all? Profit!

Have Ubisoft stated this? That would be a sad event to happen, really, as I really enjoy their games... However, the Wii U install base is finally climbing again post-launch, so maybe the 3rd party support will come.

They said that they were going to use the sales of their games this Christmas (particularly sales of AC4) as a litmus test for future support. We haven't heard the results of that yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they cut support.

They announced several games around Oct/Nov that will be skipping the Wii-U as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Watch_Dogs doesn't see the light of day on the Wii-U either.

I just found this article, however:

I dunno, what kind of games do you like? What games do you have? I could try and give you some recommendations.

I'm always open for suggestions. I have a bit of an eclectic taste when it comes to games. So far I own 3D World, NSMBU, AC3, Nintendoland, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Trine 2, Mass Effect 3, FIFA 13, Wind Waker, I might be missing one...

I enjoy all of the main titles for Mario and Zelda and would purchase the system just for those games, but I tend to not enjoy offshoot titles that contain those characters. For instance, I've always loved the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games, but never cared for any of the Mario Golf series, I've enjoyed the Olympics games on my PS3, but never got into the Mario and Sonic games... Something about the funky physics of these games, when they are trying to replicate an actual sport throw me off. I like most sports games (MLB, NHL, and FIFA) but unfortunately the only game that falls into those 3 sports I already own.

I also enjoy more mature fighting games like the Mortal Kombat Series and Soul Calibur but never got into the Smash Bros series (Perhaps Tekken is worth a look?). I like 3rd person shooters and action games, but never liked FPS's. I really enjoyed AC3 but I only finished it a couple of months ago and after playing it to 100% completion, I'm AC'd out for a while. Lastly, I really enjoy puzzle games, particularly when the puzzles are built into the game (I really enjoyed Trine). But I even enjoy simple puzzle games like Dr. Mario, Tetris etc. I'd be interested to hear if Dr. Luigi is any fun. Seems off to me though with the L-shaped pills.

Oh, and any game with Star Wars in it. But then again, you knew that. I am human after all.

Well then here goes!

Once you're ready for it, then ACIV is a safe bet, and by that time may have a better price too. It seems to run better than ACIII and is prettier than ACIII, which was my favorite AC thus far. I only have about 10% completion for ACIV so I can't tell you how that ranks on my list yet. The sailing and naval battles are hugely improved too. Great companion game for Wind Waker too, seing as they are both open world, sailing / island games

If you want something sort of similar to AC, as in a action/stealth game, then I can highly reccommend Splinter Cell Blacklist. I was really positively surprised by this game. It's similar to AC in the way that it's an action/stealth game, but it's much more concise in its story, and mission based rather than open world. So there's not any collecting and traveling - which is what gave me that overwhelmed exhaustion from AC, but plenty of replayability in terms of beating you own score, higher difficulty, leaderboards and different ways of beating a level (undetected non-lethal "ghost" style, undetected lethal "panther" style, or in your face combat "assault" style). I haven't tried the online mode yet, aside from being challenged by a friend in a speed run of a level - which was fun. The price on the eShop is pretty good too, or you could probably get an even better price if you look for it in a store.

New Luigi U is great if you're looking for a CHALLENGING platformer. You know the drill as you have NSMBU, but these levels are much harder.

Rayman Legends is a really fun platformer too. Great graphics and really great and unique use of the gamepad too. Online challenges and leaderboards, tons of collectibles and unlockables too.

Pikmin 3 is a great game too which is really one of my favorites. You say you love puzzles when they are integrated into the game, well this has plenty of that. Especially the mission modes (which is my favorite part of the game, but start with the story to learn the basic of the game) are like timed strategy puzzles where you really have to figure the level out and master the strategy if you want a platinum medal - or get high ranking on the leaderboard. It does have that real time strategy element though that I didn't see you talking about, so it's sort of a wildcard. Wiimote+Nunchuch controls is far and away the best way to control this game as it gives improved precision, and you can still use the GamePad as a map even though you're controlling your characters with the Wiimote and nunchuck.

Other good puzzle games are the two tribes trilogy of games, Edge, Rush and Toki Tori 2+. They are faily cheap on the eShop, and I think if you buy Edge and Rush you get a discount off of Toki Tori 2+.

I haven't tried Wonderful 101 yet, but I hear people really giving it high praise. It's apparently a really difficult action game as there's a pretty steep learning curve, but once you learn it, it REALLY clicks, with some puzzle elements utilizing the GamePad screen. I hear people saying it's the most unique, challenging and rewarding game on Wii U.

I thought ZombiU was really great but if you don't like FPS's then I wouldn't recommend it for you.

Lastly, if you say you like fighting games then I can recommend Injustice: Gods Among Us. It's made by the Studio that revived the Mortal Kombat series. It's a really solid fighter, and if you like DC heroesthat's a huge plus too. Plenty of characters (Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, Green Lantern, Joker, Lex Luthor and so on), playmodes (story, classic arcade, VS, online, challenges) and unlockables, such as character and level concept artwork.
I haven't tried Tekken so I can't say anything about that game.

Similarly, if you like Batman Arkham City is a really great game - though I played it on PC before I had a Wii U, so I dunno how it is on Wii U.

(I hear good things about Darksiders II too, especially if you like The Legend of Zelda - referring to the NintendoLife review here)

Those are the games I have played the most myself that you didn't mention. I plan on finishing Splinter Cell Blacklist, Rayman Legends and ACIV before I buy SM3DW, W101, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Arkham Origins, Wind Waker, and possibly Darksider II, but by that time Watch_Dogs and DKC:TP will probably be out and...

I know you may have more time on your hands than I do at the moment, and you've had your Wii U for a longer time, but all these games are more than I can handle and I'm pleasantly surprised by the selection of games on Wii U. You should give some of the above a try.

Then I could always go get Skyward Sword (wii), Xenoblade Chronicles (wii) as I never played these,

For someone who is disappointed with the amount of games available, you haven't tried very many.
Sonic: Lost World
Rayman Legends (must Have)
Deus Ex
Wonderful 101
MH3U (Must have)
Ducktales Remastered
Pikmin 3
Game and Wario
NSLU
NBA2K13
Lego City: Undercover
NFS: Most Wanted U (Must Have if you like racing games)
Injustice
Bit trip Runner 2
Ninja Gaiden 3
ZombieU
Arkham City: armored edition
Wii Sports Club
Arkham Origins
Tekken Tag tournament
Sonic All stars racing transformed
And a bunch of Virtual Console titles

Try some of Those
And those should hold you over until:
Mario Kart 8
Hyrule Warriors
Bayonetta 2
SSB
DKC:TF
New Zelda
Watch dogs
X
and all those indies (like 10 or so big ones)

And those are just off the top of my head, and with the possibilities of new Metroid and others, I'm not disappointed.

Good idea. If Nintendo released 5 quality games ala Mario / Donkey Kong every year, and there were 5 other "AAA" third party games like Watch Dogs / Mass Effect 3 / Arkham City / Zombi U / Assassin's Creed a year, it will be bliss for me. No time for more that's for sure.

I'm guessing these figures came from wikipedia. The Wii U games lists (of which this 216 come from) includes many games that are not yet released (especially on the download-only side). There are only 92 retail games available. As far as downloadable games, that only accounts for another 34 - so a total of 126 which is a much smaller number than 216.

I was really only talking about retail games though. I typically find that downloadable-only games (with a few exceptions) tend to have much less content. Not to say they aren't fun, but they tend to be much simpler graphically, and aren't representative of what the Wii U is capable of. I also find that I only get about 5-10 hours of gameplay out of a downloadable title whereas I get about 30-40 out of a retail game, with some games like AC3 offering a lot more than that.

I'm assuming that PS4 number also counts a lot of PSN games and ones that haven't been released. The PS4 only has like 25-30 retail titles out right now - nowhere near 174.

More games is almost always a better situation to be in. It means you are probably going to find a bunch of appealing niche titles, and underrated gems when the console has a large number of games. Wii U is suffering in this regard, and it's unfortunate.

However...

When you look back at previous console generations, it's always the landmark titles that stand out most - and Nintendo has traditionally been able to push out more landmark titles than any other publisher. In this regards the Wii U is still a worthwhile console. Super Mario 3D World is an example of this high quality, and likely to be just the first.

Glass half empty, glass half full. Depends on what you want to find in the glass I guess.

I'll admit, the Wii U has 4 retail and at least a dozen digital upcoming games that I'm interested in. That's more than the PS4 right now, which has 2 retail and 4 digital games I'm looking forward to. I'm not happy with the Wii U's current line-up either, but it's a new console. (Yes, 14 months is still new) Whatcha gonna do?

Totally this. I've enjoyed what the Wii U has to offer a lot more than most people, it seems. I like what the 3DS has to offer too (like FE and Pokemon) but I can't help feeling it's low dev costs often just means quantity over quality and larger fanbase appeasement. Games like W101 and Mario 3D World have shown what the Wii U is capable of in terms of gaming quality, now we just need a little more love for it in 2014 in terms of quantity. I think "X", Kart, Smash, and Bayo 2 are GREAT steps in the right direction.

You're correct in that I haven't necessarily played a ton of games, but I have researched many of them, read reviews, played similar games in the past, and have made informed decisions to date about what to buy. Games are expensive, so I can't just go out on a whim and pick up a dozen $60 games. Rayman Legends really should be on my list, so that's a good suggestion and one I should pick up. As for some of the others, I strongly dislike anything that has to do with the superhero genre. I've tried games in the past, and never liked them. I never enjoy superhero movies either, I don't know why - just not my thing.

Pikmin 3 I have read lots of good things about, but my experience with Pikmin in Nintendo Land was a big turn off. It was just a game to see how fast you could tap the screen. If that's reflective of the Pikmin game at all, well... that's just too bad. All of the Lego games I've purchased in the past end up collecting dust, so I'm staying away from those from now on. Wii Sports Club - too close to Wii sports which I've played enough of on my Wii for a lifetime, ZombiU looks dreadful, Bit Trip Runner 2 looks like it could be fun, maybe I'll download that one.

How does NFS work without analog triggers? I sort of wrote it off because of that. Deus Ex looks like it might be decent too. You definitely gave me some suggestions and I appreciate that. But I still think the support level for this console is less than previous Nintendo console, and wish everyone would step up their game.

That's how it always is in the first year or two. I'll refrain from judging its library until about 4 years in.

For what it's worth, I own 12 retail Wii U games. I'm not dissapointed with its line-up right now; I'm dissapointed in where it'll probably be in the near future, in Nintendo's current Wii U games besides Mario 3D World, in it's online structure, it's current handling of VC, etc.

It doesn't help that more than half of the games are also out on the 360 that I own, but I like off-TV play, so I just buy the multiplats there for now.

I agree with you on this. I'm not saying there aren't some good games out there that I haven't played. But everyone has there own tastes, so even though there may be 20-30 decent games, maybe only 2 or 3 of those will appeal to me. Whereas if you have 200-300 decent games, now there's a lot more to consider and you can probably find 15-20 that really match your personal preferences. It's always better to have more than less.

Yeah, you're right. Games are expensive. I haven't played all the games on that list. I actually only have about 8, maybe 9 retail games, but I'm content and actually have games I plan to buy but haven't got around to it yet. I guess I see how you're disappointed , but I think it's mostly because you have a really specific taste in games, which is not necessarily a bad thing at all, but as a gamer, I'd be pretty disappointed with most systems available if I didn't step outside my comfort zone once in awhile. If I didn't I never would have got MH3U. Crappy demo -> I thought I'd hate it. But I tried it anyway, and now I could wright a book about how good that game is. Not saying that you would enjoy it or not, but I'm just saying maybe you should try some new stuff.
I've never played any Pikmin games, and (I know this sounds strange considering what I just wrote) I probably never will, just because I have too many games to beat and other games to buy that I have at higher priority since, like you, I didn't like it on Nintendo land.
Need for Speed works fine for me without them. I haven't really noticed until now, but I guess what I do to regulate speed is I kind of hold and then let go, hold and let go, longer depending on how fast I want to go, but moving my finger fast enough so that my car isn't like jerking foreword strangely. I hope that makes sense. It sounds kind of annoying, but it just naturally kind of became a habit, and eventually became second nature. Who knows, you may even develop your own way. I'm kind of proud of it, it feels like an art. But anyway, it's a great game, with tons to do. Unfortunately, though, I still haven't beaten it yet (almost though) because, of course, I got Monster Hunter, which is a big reason I have long list of "need to play" games.
And yes, compared to the Wii (or anything else) its very lacking in support, but only maybe 25% at the most of those Wii games could even be considered good!

I usually complete about two or three games a month, and I was also a Wii U launch customer, so it’s a double edged sword……………I really have nothing to look forward to in Q1 outside of DKC: Tropical Freeze. I guess it all comes down to opinion, but I think the PS4 and Xbox One have much stronger Q1 schedules,……….yes, January is slow, but February and March are both very busy.
