Topic: Pikmin 3 Price Skyrocket

I've wanted to buy Pikmin 3 since before it came out, but I thought I would wait for a price drop on amazon. I just bought "Injustice: Gods Among Us" for $14. I'm going to play it as soon as I get home. (I'm super excited) So I was decided to check Amazon for more price drops to see which game I would buy next.

I saw a lot of games that were already under 20 dollars, which is awesome, but then I decided to check the price for Pikmin 3 and my jaw literally dropped. the price is $89.99. that is insane, the game is already pretty old. I checked other websites like Walmart and Target, and thankfully they have it at the normal $59.99. But still, I could buy three other Wii U games on amazon at that price.

So does anyone know what the deal is? Will the game ever have a price drop?

Nintendo games don't drop in price very often.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Well, considering that Amazon is not directly selling the game in this case, that explains the markup. As for a price drop, I think it'll happen eventually, but I'm glad I picked it up in the MK8 free game offer.

The Amazon prices are more then likely third party sellers selling the game. Must people assume that just because its on Amazon its sold by Amazon which isnt the case.

As for a price drop Nintendo very rarely price drops first party games

Perhaps I should clarify my stance. I think a price drop will happen eventually, but it will come toward the end of the Wii U's life a la the Nintendo Selects series.

Nintendo just made a demo available for it. Hopefully a reprinting with a reduced price point will be forthcoming.

Nintendo games are the games I actually buy day 1 simply because their price NEVER goes down during the console's life span. You'll see sales here and there for sure but as for a permanent price cut, rarely happens.

It's quality or quantity. I've learned that it doesn't pay off to wait for a price drop for a Nintendo game. I'll get most of them day one, because there's little use in waiting for a price drop to happen.

Yeah, I also get most Nintendo games on day one, but the reviews said the game was pretty short... I wasn't expecting it to go down that much, I think at one point it was at $50 but like an idiot I thought I would wait for it to go lower.

And regarding the whole Mario Kart deal... I'm one of those people who prefers physical copies of games. (I'm an old man) so for my free game I got Wii Party U, because I knew I would never buy it for real. SO even though Pikmin would have been FREE I didn't get it. Idiot move #2

It's not a short game if you also try to get platinum on all the separate missions (although some of these are as DLC). And if you have a second player with a Wiimote+Nunchuck, you have one of the best local 2-player games on the Wii U. We have played it for more than 150 hours, although we don't play it as often now when MK8 and Smash U has arrived. Personally, I'd gladly pay for some more quality DLC for Pikmin 3.

This is one of those not so common cases I'm glad I'm in the UK. Nintendo aren't allowed to set the prices, the retailers price them at whatever they sell, so the 'Nintendo games never go down in price' thing doesn't hold true. Just this week alone I've bought Wind Waker HD for £22, Tropical Freeze for £27 and Omega Ruby for £24. Always worth waiting for a deal.

Me too. Also yeah, Nintendo games hardly ever drop in price.

This

I would say I found pretty much everything on my first play through and spent over 20 hours on it. Can't see how people complain it's short unless they just march right straight to the end. Also like was said me and my son have put in well over 100 hours into the multiplayer as it's just tons of fun!

Yeah you would think by now it would be $30. Same for WW HD its a 10 year old port that still goes for $50 a year later. But it's Nintedo so their games don't drop in price. Even Lego City Undercover is still $50 and it's a 2 year old Lego game. Find me another Lego game that isn't $19.99 after 2 years.

As far as Pikmin 3 goes, it isn't that short, but be warned it's an annoying hard stop ending. Once you get to the end and beat the final boss they don't let you continue, which is really annoying. I only finished about half the game figuring I'd get the rest of the fruit later but BAM end credits. I never went back to the main story, but I do own ALL the DLC and my kids Platinumed all of it. I'm more of a "bronze is good enough for me" guy. The kids also loved Bingo. If it were 3 or 4 player we'd probably still be playing it.

Oh, whoever is looking to buy this - Nintneod games are great to keep in mind for Buy One Get One sales.

@rjejr That's not entirety true about not being able to go back. You could go back one day and continue to find all the fruit if you like. Or you can go back all the way to day one and start over. Either way you can find all the fruit if you want to.

Yes, you can go back, but that choiceless ending really bothered me. It seemed so unnecessary - SPOILER - just ask, "Do you want to take off, or do you want to continue looking for fruit?" Simple easy peasy solution. One I've encountered in many games before. Well not that exact question but the continuing to collect collectibles after the ending part. I didn't really want to have to do that last level area again, I just wanted to keep playing.

And then I sent my Wii U in for repairs b/c the screen kept going black every 5 seconds, and it came back a few weeks later w/o any of my save points, and I moved on.

Unlike Captain Toad, I think Nintendo will reprint this game. It's the third in a series, and even though it didn't sell well, I do think they will be making more games. Especially since they recently made those Pikmin short movies (that nobody is going to pay for). Pikmin 3 is basically the Wii game that was in development with HD polish, so I can't wait to see what they do with the next one.

Pikmin 3 isn't a port though. It was released in July 2013. Considering its long development time and the fact that it hasn't set the sales charts on fire, Pikmin 3 is likely to maintain its SRP for a good while yet (though Nintendo may, at some point in the future, decide to release a "complete" edition with the DLC included in order to pursue new players to buy the game).

Nintendo has never done a "complete DLC edition" of any game and I doubt they're going to start now. Best you can hope for is something like the Nintendo Selects catalogue from the Wii

That is because none of their games prior to the 3DS/Wii U have had paid DLC, so a "Complete DLC" style release is still new territory for Nintendo. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is also quite reluctant to rerelease their best selling titles at a lower price point (at the risk of devaluing their brands), however, as an alternative to reviving the "Selects" range, Nintendo may be considering re-releasing some of their older titles as "Complete" editions, with all of the DLC included on disc/card, while still retaining the original suggested retail price. I suppose time will tell how Nintendo will handle this.

So far, the only "complete DLC" editions that I know of were released in the form of the limited edition 2DS with preinstalled New Super Mario Bros. 2 and the New Super Mario Bros. U disc with the included New Super Luigi U DLC as part of a Wii U hardware bundle.

From memory, the only Nintendo games with paid DLC include...
3DS: New Super Mario Bros. 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Mario Golf: World Tour, Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS
Wii U: Pikmin 3, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Smash Bros. For Wii U
