If it wasn't for the Wii U, I wouldn't be playing videogames any more. Neither the Xbox or PS concentrate on the sort of games I like to play. I prefer colourful and imaginative over grim and faceshooty.
I am in the same boat.
I have not ruled out picking up a PS4 in addition to the Wii U, 3DS, but I barely have the time for what I have. I'd be fine with just Wii U.
I love my Wii U. It's renewed my interest in gaming. I'm kind of an all over the place but picky gamer. Most games bore me. I buy one game a month and so far the Wii U has been dominating my purchases since July when I got it. I follow the games that interest me and I doubt there will be much for me. Time is also an issue.
I will probably be primarily a Wii U user. It will probably be at least a few years before I even think of investing in a complementary console to play a few of the Sony/Microsoft exclusives and 3rd party games that skip Wii U. The only launch title that even particularly interested me for either "next-gen" console was Forza 5, but from the sounds of it, it is a huge step back from the freedom and choice offered in Forza 4. I'll save that $600 and put it towards interesting games for my Wii U, thanks. On a side note, I wonder if Project Cars will have a decent selection of classic muscle cars to drive with reckless abandon.
@steamhare You must not have read the article. The margin I posted was for a $20 brick and mortar game. That low profit margin is what convinced them to go digital and get a 70/30 split with valve.
My post clearly indicates I understood these facts, as I did read the article. None of it indicates how much a $60 game makes at retail. Still.
Also, your graph does not say that developers receive $7 from sales. That $7 is actually the amount of a game's price used to cover returns. The developer cut is not given anywhere in the pie chart or article.
I will be, when I bother to get a Wii U. Only Nintendo's games even look interesting to me any more. Probably because they're not multiplayer shooters or glorified movies.

The Wii U will be my main console this gen, although I expect to pick up a PS4 sometime in 2015.
I'm not too worried about the games that are not coming to the Wii U, as from the past gen I found that most tend to be overhyped and lack the heart of games on Nintendo platforms. Besides the majority of my 'most wanted' games are coming to the Wii U anyway (Bayonetta 2, 'X', Mario Kart 8, DKC:TF, Watch Dogs) with the only exception being The Order 1866 (a PS4 exclusive).
I even have a large Wii U backlog now, as I still have Lego Marvel, Deus Ex, Wind Waker HD and a bunch of eShop games to play. Mario has taken over my console for now though.
You know if you buy a console because it has games you know you want to play then it's not really a gamble, as some one has said. Buying a console on the possibility of playing something makes no sense to me. I've got a decent library of games on the Wii U that I enjoy. Nintendo could dump the machine tomorrow and they'd still be on the machine and I'd still play them!
You can catch me packin' a 4TB WiiU
I will be that MadAussieBloke ain't much you can do
Gots no time for the PSBOX41 lame crew
I would rather spend my cash slammin' down a cold brew
Don't be givin' MAB that same old lecture about sales
When my GIFS paint pictures with harder facts like professors at Yale
Punks be whining again when their PS4 fails
Son I'm SEGA raised and bred
You're all just MicroSony girly ponytails...
WiiU + 3DS word to your brothers girlfriends mother
Can I get a DIGITAL 4 LYFE BABY!
I love my wii u and I did intend on it being my only next gen console, but I'm afraid ps4 and naughty dog are too good to miss. And the Xbox is still in beta so no way am I touching that thing until a ltd edition halo version comes out.
Added to this, I will still be playing the following consoles this gen:
Wii, game cube, sans, nes, gameboy, gameboy micro, ds, 3ds, megadrive, Saturn, dreamcast, neo geo AES, Xbox 360, ps2 Xbox original and N64.
There are still so many games I want to play even from the 8 and 16 bit era. I collect as well though so that's probably why.
Lovin Rahman legends on wii u ATM. Saw it for £23 on the Nintendo e shop! Bargain!!

i love Nintendo and i've got my 3DS XL + Wii U.. and i've already got a lot of games + will be buying SO MANY more for these two systems
Nintendo games > all
but that doesn't change the fact that there are other great games out there.... i like playing RTS games on my laptop.. and i'll also be getting a Playstation 4 (my first playstation) for games like Thief 4, the next Tomb Raider, The Last Guardian, Uncharted, Mirror's Edge 2, etc.
yes.. Nintendo is my favorite company and i'll always be more excited about Nintendo games (Zelda, Pokemon, Smash Bros., etc.), but there are other great games out there for me to enjoy!
i have friends who don't have any console and only play PC-games... so i can't really go Wii U-only
Laptop + Wii U + 3DS XL + PS4 -> that's all i need for gaming
I was thinking about it, but as it turns out.. In 2014 Wii U officially becomes a platform for Nintendo content only. So no, Playstation 4 will become part of the family and the main console while Wii U will be kept for those Nintendo moments.
