Wanderhope commented on Nintendo Download: 23rd May (North America):

Kirby is quickly becoming my favorite franchise so it looks like I may be a shade poorer this week...

Someone let us know if the buy 2 get 1 free deal still works if you get a transfer discount on one or two of the titles!

Game & Wario, Mario & Sonic looked surprisingly perfect for my little family. Pikmin 3 just looks more and more amazing every time I see it. Wonderful 101 looks like a must buy as well (though not from today's Direct). Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart, Mario... What lack of games? My wallet is ailing. In Wii's first year, I bought TWO games total. This year I will likely buy at least seven.

I must say I love Nintendo's approach to DLC so far. Their DLC content so far is just extra juicy bits for players who cannot get enough of the main product. Both NSMB2 and Fire Emblem: Awakening have DLC that is both (1) substantial enough to justify extra money and (2) completely optional. Unfortunately, I just don't care enough about the third party games that support DLC, but I want the Wii U to be successful so I hope they bring the goods!

Never played a single game in the series, but I have a new found love for puzzlers and, at $10, this is tempting. But first, I MUST complete Spirit Tracks, Crimson Shroud, and Liberation Maiden (and probably Trine 2)!!

Wanderhope commented on Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma:

100% digital. I lost my lust for clutter long ago. The less I have clogging up the veins of my house, the better.

Also, I have 3 kids under the age of 5. Discs break all the time, no matter what precautions are in place.

I would consider physical for games that aren't up my alley or I'm not sure I'll like for reselling - but I've been far too busy to waste time and money on chances.

I do sometimes miss using gasoline to go to a store, get annoyed by the clerks, refuse their special offers, for the honor of holding plastic. But it's more nostalgic than practical for me at this juncture.

Also, download times for large retail games are a non issue. Start at midnight, go to bed. Lord...

I will either get the Wii U version, the 3DS version, both, or perhaps neither. It's a crowded few months for my gaming budget and time so we'll have to see how things shake out. I may end up getting on Wii U just because I won't have any console games to play come March and I have eShop credit burning a hole in my wallet. Heart of the Swarm, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, and this in the span of a month - this is just cruel.

Wanderhope commented on The Big Wii U Survey:

Has there been a console with more subtle nuances than the Wii U? I had so many reservations about a system that is difficult to convey even to core Nintendo fans, but I have been pleasantly surprised by most everything. Off-tv gameplay for nearly every game is just fantastic. I managed to recycle two laptop hard drives I had lying around with an enclosure to use as Wii U storage - and the process took mere seconds. The UI can be slow in places, but I love the layout, and Miiverse cannot be understated - its mix of twitter, Swapnote, and constant Superguide has me coming back to it daily. And the asymmetrical gameplay allows me to play Nintendo Land easily with my 4 year-old and 2 year-old - there is always something to do that they can handle. And the universal remote on the thing is TOP NOTCH and turned something I was "meh" about into an essential feature. It's no wonder Wii U is confusing, but my God, I love the thing. The launch lineup variety has also really impressed me. I usually get 1-2 games for a system at launch that have to last several months before anything else I like comes out - right now I have 5 Wii U games and I've only owned the system for a month.

Wanderhope commented on Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2013:

Been waiting for Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, and Animal Crossing for what seems like forever, so all of those three. And I know I want a Monster Hunter game but I am not sure which one to get first to see if I like it, 3DS or Wii U. I think I'm leaning to 3DS just because it's cheaper and portable. TOO MANY GAMES.

It was just yesterday I emailed customer support because I have been having trouble getting coins for the past few weeks. It hit a breaking point this week when I couldn't get coins for the brand new 3DS XL and Wii U I bought on the same day. The only issue I have with their apology is that there was a game or two where I simply didn't fill out the survey because I wasn't getting coins. Now they are expired and so apparently will never get coins for them. Oh well, I'm sitting on a treasure trove of them anyway...

Haha, everyone has a WoW allergy. It would certainly work well on Wii U and something like it would be fabulous. I am actually hoping Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will scratch this similar itch. The difficulty with WoW right now is that it is pretty mod dependent, as someone else already mentioned. I can't imagine playing it without Deadly Boss Mods or others. There is a better chance that Diablo III will be ported over, given that Blizzard is actually exploring the console scene with that game already.

Interestingly, I bought my second 360 earlier this year (I had sold my old one a while back). At this point, I look at it as a good value gaming PC for the long haul since my computer doesn't play games very well. I will buy the occasional $20 "On Demand" game on it while Nintendo games take up most of my time. Right now, it's my Madden, Minecraft, and DVD machine. I think the more interesting question is if I will ever buy the next Xbox...

Wanderhope commented on Satoru Iwata: 'We Have Not Changed Our Strategy':

These comments from Iwata are reassuring. Their simple philosophy and focus on the games is the reason they are one of my favorite companies (along with Apple).

Horsepower and resolution is only one part of producing great graphics. Some of the most visually impressive graphics of the current gen came on the Wii (Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn). And some of the most drab graphics come on PS3/Xbox 360. And it has more to do with the competence of the developer than horsepower. Horsepower is just icing on the cake.

I am so torn between this, Mario Tennis Open, and New Super Mario Bros. 2. First world problems?

NSMB2 may be winning at this point, since Mario platformers are my first love. But I was really itching for a long RPG/adventure. UGH. Hard decisions are hard.

Last month I traded in my 360 for Super Mario 3D Land and Skyward Sword. Yesterday I got Dragon Quest IX and Pokemon Black. Tomorrow is my birthday and, knowing my wife, I'm 1000% sure I will be getting Mario Kart 7.

Wanderhope commented on Feature: The Revolution of the Wii:

Ah, the Wii. I often turned a lot of heads stating that it was my favorite current gen console (also owned an Xbox 360). It just had the most intriguing games considering I haven't cared for shooters since I was 18. I love the ingenuity in game design that the Wii demanded. Also, the Virtual Console was like a dream come true that we often now take for granted. I was blown away when I realized I could play NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube games on this console. What a legacy.
