Actually, Kid_A, you're not alone. I thought the controls in Super Mario 64 DS, even without analog, was quite exceptional.

I did too. And I thought the thumb-strap, for most parts, worked wonders. It's kind of sad they just gave up on it.

Galaxy was my fave. But I agree that it was a tad too linear sometimes. It'd be nice to just be able to jump into a galaxy and explore the whole thing. But then I guess being able to blast to every planet from every planet would get a bit confusing and complicated. The planetoid mechanic doesn't quite suit the same level of freedom you got in Sunshine or 64. But it looks like that'll be somewhat rectified in SMG2

Any of the 3D mario games are worthy for a 10/10 individually. None of them should be passed up because one has something better than the other. They all have something special about each of them.

@Axoloth - The DS came with the thumb-strap? I didn't know that. I always thought they had the Control Pad + alone.

Me four. And, uh, yeah I already said 64 DS is a lot better than the original.

Super Mario Sunshine does not suck, it is the best of the three. In second is Galaxy and 64 is last. I don't think Galaxy 2 has a chance of beating Sunshine.

All of which is in your opinion

But back on Topic: I'd have to say that Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite then SM64 then Sunshine because Sunshine sucks.

Yes, Sunshine does suck. FLUDD ruined Sunshine. By the way, have you guys noticed SuperSonic1990 vanished? I wonder why?

Knux

I hated the FLUDD, but I already said that.

Starkiller

FLUDD isn't the best, but that doesn't take away from Sunshine's awesomeness! IT WAS AWESOME!!!

@StarBoy: Well, yeah, at I got a thumb-strap when I bought my phat DS. It was actually just a wrist strap with a thumb pad on it though. Anyway, 64 DS is the only game I know that was intentionally made so that one could use the thumb-wrist-strap.

EDIT: I just started a new save on 64 DS, and one of those tutorial-signs said that the thumb pad is "Ideal for the Touch Mode".

I have to say that SMG2 will probably be my favorite!

Can somebody explain to me why Sunshine "sucks"? It's my personal favorite of the three (or four if you count Super Mario 64 DS). Everybody just says "Sunshine sucks" or "FLUDD ruined sunshine" but they don't say why.

Let's not say a game sucks or is bad because of a certain character in it. To say Sunshine is bad just because of FLUDD sounds quite shallow to me.

@HyperLuigi - SuperSonic is gone? I wonder why...?

Super Mario Galaxy. Used to be 64, but man is Galaxy awesomesauce.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Reasons We Do Not Like Sunshine:

  • FLUDD is not fun, and it completely overrides all your traditional Mario skills, making it another game entire.
  • Isle Delfino is boring, and its babbling citizens inane.
  • Bowser Jr. is annoying, and Shadow Mario generic (wow, a shadow version of the protagonist? that's never been done before).

I don't know why any of this has to be "explained." Some people like some games, and some people don't.

StarBoy91

I thought Shadow Mario was Bowser Jr. in disguise. :/

Yes, Mr. Spoiler, but it just goes to show what a bad character he is when he is completely uninteresting in both forms. In one form, he is only one in a long line of evil twins, and in the other form he is an obnoxiously whining child.

I liked galaxy because it's mario, just mario. No gimmicks. The spin is not a gimmick, It's like the spin jump in SMW.
