Re: Soapbox: DOOM is the Most Important Switch Game Yet

tsdenizen

It's not, BotW and Mario are. GOTY-level exclusives will always be more important than ports of great games that came out a year ago. But it is important. It's an opportunity to show 3rd parties there's a market. But exclusives are what make or break a console and even with DOOM's success, there will be many games the Switch can't run. But that's ok. It's pumping out incredible exclusives, it's the best platform for indies, and it may become the best platform for AA 3rd party titles that don't push the hardware too much.

Re: Video: L.A. Noire for Nintendo Switch Gets a Smart New Trailer

@BlackenedHalo not correct. Gameplay-wise, it's closer to the XB1 and PS4 versions. The differences between them is those can go 4K while the Switch version has portable and touchscreen capability but can only go 1080p. The new decisions during interrogation, new outfits, new everything is consistent with the PS4/XB1 version. Not simply a PS3 port.

We'll see if the Switch version becomes the definitive version of the game, but already it looks like the changes made in the game are really smart. It's really nice to see it isn't just a port of the old version, but an actual enhanced edition. Keep flip flopping on this. The mandatory download isn't great, but better box art, portability, enhanced gameplay, etc. ? Plus since it was a previous gen game, performance shouldn't be an issue. Getting harder to pass up.

Re: Review: Elliot Quest (Switch eShop)

Not sure how Elliot Quest gets knocked for being too hard when they incorporated an easy mode and an NPC guide this time (not that the guide was needed, a column of light has always been on the next recommended area), while if you die in Mummy Demastered, you not only lose absolutely everything you have, in order to get it back, your nerfed ass needs to back to where non-nerfed you died, pick up your stuff, and kill a nigh unkillable reanimated version of your previous self.

Re: Review: Knight Terrors (Switch eShop)

Honestly way better than people are giving it credit for. It definitely is simple, but what's important is it's fun. Better arcade-style fun than most of the $8 NeoGeo games.

And yeah, I find way more value in this than in Kamiko. This isn't something you'll play non-stop all day, but I can totally see putting in 100+ hours just by virtue of playing a couple quick games every day because there's no time to play your more expansive games in the moment. I think it's a damn good pick.

@Dang69 I try to personally rate things purely on quality on here, but a "score for the price" separate could obviously be helpful. I gave this and TB an 8 on here, and I'm pretty mean sometimes. I'm really, really glad to own and have played both. Have fun with the final boss in episode 4 of TB

Re: Review: The Count Lucanor (Switch eShop)

@FragRed That's fair, but I'd keep in mind that 90 minute films on blu-ray can go for $30. Quality of experience is important. And as I said, there is replay value. Events within the game can play out very differently between playthroughs. The horror is diminished after the first, but the exploring the lore and influence of your choices isn't. You can really get 15 hours of it if you're dedicated to seeing everything.

Re: Review: The Count Lucanor (Switch eShop)

@Shinnos I think he understated just how short it is, really only a 3-4 hour playthrough. It has a bit of replay value by going for the different endings, but it is less effective as a horror game after the first time, obviously. That first playthrough though is soooooooooo good.

Re: Review: Hive Jump (Wii U eShop)

tsdenizen

@feelinsupersonic We don't know it's mediocre, period. We know Nintendo Life thinks it's mediocre, which might be really pertinent info for people who were on the fence about "Hive Jump for the Wii U" but felt the need to hold off for a month until Nintendo Life decided to jump in. I'm sure those people exist, but I also think those people aren't numerous and that there are other things the time and effort could've been spent on. I'm just not sure what a month late review of a 5/10 game on a dying system does for most people.

Re: Review: Hive Jump (Wii U eShop)

tsdenizen

@holygeez03 I'm not against the review in general. More content is better. The thing is, how many announcements and reviews on Switch and 3DS stuff are they backed up on right now? It's about priorities, and I'd understand if NL actually thought this were some great exclusive they wanted to shine a light on, but I'm just confused as to why a 5/10 (according to them) game on the WiiU eShop takes precedent over some of the things they've yet to touch on.

Re: Review: Hive Jump (Wii U eShop)

tsdenizen

Don't mean to sound harsh, but what's the point of doing a write up for an apparently mediocre game on a basically dead console when there's absolutely tons of other relevant things to write about?

Re: Review: JYDGE (Switch eShop)

tsdenizen

Wasn't really interested in this one, this reinforces that. Waiting for the Elliot Quest and Count Lucanor reviews as both are really cool but had some tech issues I hope were mitigated before I buy Switch versions.

Re: Review: The Jackbox Party Pack 4 (Switch eShop)

tsdenizen

@Dayton311 I think the benefit in the Switch version is less tabletop mode and more easy transport to parties. Hauling my big ass PS4 around to hook up in case we want to play some party games is more of a pain than the Switch and the dock, which I can easily toss in a bag with other things.
