It's not, BotW and Mario are. GOTY-level exclusives will always be more important than ports of great games that came out a year ago. But it is important. It's an opportunity to show 3rd parties there's a market. But exclusives are what make or break a console and even with DOOM's success, there will be many games the Switch can't run. But that's ok. It's pumping out incredible exclusives, it's the best platform for indies, and it may become the best platform for AA 3rd party titles that don't push the hardware too much.
@BlackenedHalo not correct. Gameplay-wise, it's closer to the XB1 and PS4 versions. The differences between them is those can go 4K while the Switch version has portable and touchscreen capability but can only go 1080p. The new decisions during interrogation, new outfits, new everything is consistent with the PS4/XB1 version. Not simply a PS3 port.
We'll see if the Switch version becomes the definitive version of the game, but already it looks like the changes made in the game are really smart. It's really nice to see it isn't just a port of the old version, but an actual enhanced edition. Keep flip flopping on this. The mandatory download isn't great, but better box art, portability, enhanced gameplay, etc. ? Plus since it was a previous gen game, performance shouldn't be an issue. Getting harder to pass up.
@GC-161 "a world of hurt"? Really? I said I prefer the Japanese, YOU make the first inane, passive-aggressive comment, I respond, and I'm the immature one? Dude, WHY ARE YOU HERE? Just to crap on people who are happy about this? REALLY? THAT'S NOT INANE? I'M AN OTAKU, MR. SENRAN KAGURA AND CONCEPTION FAN?
Price seems hefty, but I also feel like that Autumn DLC could end up being like what "The Answer" was to Persona 3. Maybe a bit unfounded, but I've got a vibe.
FighterZ port will probably be one, new Tales game probably another. Third one could be a few things. Dark Souls collection, Tekken 7, Ni No Kuni 2, etc. It'll be interesting to see.
While I agree that 3 is better than the first Art of Fighting, I don't think the difference is nearly that drastic. The series has never been particularly great. This is closer to a 6.
@Yorumi I originally found out about the game through a YouTuber called Hutts who's really good at Binding of Isaac and Ittle Dew 2 kicked his ass haha. Game is definitely a challenge.
@Ervex_109 Absolutely not. If you want to look at pretty things and be bored to tears, get RiME. If you actually want to play a game, get Ittle Dew 2+.
@Sunanootoko totally different aside from theme. Tiny Barbarian plays more like Mega Man 2, while Volgarr's more Ghosts 'n' Goblins. I like TB way more.
Not sure how Elliot Quest gets knocked for being too hard when they incorporated an easy mode and an NPC guide this time (not that the guide was needed, a column of light has always been on the next recommended area), while if you die in Mummy Demastered, you not only lose absolutely everything you have, in order to get it back, your nerfed ass needs to back to where non-nerfed you died, pick up your stuff, and kill a nigh unkillable reanimated version of your previous self.
Honestly way better than people are giving it credit for. It definitely is simple, but what's important is it's fun. Better arcade-style fun than most of the $8 NeoGeo games.
And yeah, I find way more value in this than in Kamiko. This isn't something you'll play non-stop all day, but I can totally see putting in 100+ hours just by virtue of playing a couple quick games every day because there's no time to play your more expansive games in the moment. I think it's a damn good pick.
@Dang69 I try to personally rate things purely on quality on here, but a "score for the price" separate could obviously be helpful. I gave this and TB an 8 on here, and I'm pretty mean sometimes. I'm really, really glad to own and have played both. Have fun with the final boss in episode 4 of TB
@zionich Reviewers put a lot of stock in how length = value. Tiny Barbarian was the same deal, review read like a 9, but it's kinda short and kinda pricey, so it's a 7.
@FragRed That's fair, but I'd keep in mind that 90 minute films on blu-ray can go for $30. Quality of experience is important. And as I said, there is replay value. Events within the game can play out very differently between playthroughs. The horror is diminished after the first, but the exploring the lore and influence of your choices isn't. You can really get 15 hours of it if you're dedicated to seeing everything.
@Shinnos I think he understated just how short it is, really only a 3-4 hour playthrough. It has a bit of replay value by going for the different endings, but it is less effective as a horror game after the first time, obviously. That first playthrough though is soooooooooo good.
@feelinsupersonic We don't know it's mediocre, period. We know Nintendo Life thinks it's mediocre, which might be really pertinent info for people who were on the fence about "Hive Jump for the Wii U" but felt the need to hold off for a month until Nintendo Life decided to jump in. I'm sure those people exist, but I also think those people aren't numerous and that there are other things the time and effort could've been spent on. I'm just not sure what a month late review of a 5/10 game on a dying system does for most people.
@holygeez03 I'm not against the review in general. More content is better. The thing is, how many announcements and reviews on Switch and 3DS stuff are they backed up on right now? It's about priorities, and I'd understand if NL actually thought this were some great exclusive they wanted to shine a light on, but I'm just confused as to why a 5/10 (according to them) game on the WiiU eShop takes precedent over some of the things they've yet to touch on.
Don't mean to sound harsh, but what's the point of doing a write up for an apparently mediocre game on a basically dead console when there's absolutely tons of other relevant things to write about?
I prefer physical, but having a good amount of digital on my Switch is nice just so I have stuff to play on the go without having to bring carts. I probably won't get many, between the double-dipping, price increases and pain of trying to actually be able to buy a LR game. But I don't buy digital for games more than $20, so for stuff like VOEZ, this'll be nice.
Wasn't really interested in this one, this reinforces that. Waiting for the Elliot Quest and Count Lucanor reviews as both are really cool but had some tech issues I hope were mitigated before I buy Switch versions.
I do wish these were a bit cheaper though, and took up less space. They just sit when yr on yr own. A physical Jackbox 1-4 collection for $60 is something I'd pick up, no doubt. As is, gotta think about it a bit more.
@Dayton311 I think the benefit in the Switch version is less tabletop mode and more easy transport to parties. Hauling my big ass PS4 around to hook up in case we want to play some party games is more of a pain than the Switch and the dock, which I can easily toss in a bag with other things.
@Bolt_Strike who knows, they might. I don't think Metroid ever goes M, but maybe a new IP does. Nintendo seems to really like Bayonetta, maybe it's inspired them to cook up something new we just don't know about yet. It feels like all bets are off and that the Switch is a new beginning.

Re: Review: Tallowmere (Switch eShop)
So I'm confused, is this a 6 or a 9?

Re: Get Ready To Slam Dunk With The Next Neo Geo Game For Switch, Street Hoop
FINALLY a decent basketball game on the Switch. Street Hoop is pure "magic on the blacktop".

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to Get Japanese Voiceover Option in Free Launch DLC
@GC-161 you can't tell if voice acting is tonally appropriate unless it's in your native language? Bet your communication skills are sick...
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to Get Japanese Voiceover Option in Free Launch DLC
The Japanese voices were so much better in my opinion, really happy about this.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Gets Expansion Pass and Surprise Breath of the Wild Crossover

Re: Review: Namco Museum (Switch eShop)
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, if they dropped SkyKid and Tank Force for Mappy and Mr. Driller, this'd be a no-brainer.
Re: Review: Art of Fighting 3: The Path of the Warrior (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)
While I agree that 3 is better than the first Art of Fighting, I don't think the difference is nearly that drastic. The series has never been particularly great. This is closer to a 6.
Re: Get Ready To Party With This New Trailer For Mario Party: The Top 100
The idea of Mario Party on handheld as opposed to console is baffling to me considering the whole point is local multiplayer. Weird, weird decision.
Re: Review: King Oddball (Switch eShop)
Confused as to how this is only one point lower than stuff like Tiny Barbarian, Elliot Quest, and Count Lucanor.
Re: Anniversary: It's Been 10 Years Since Super Mario Galaxy Landed On The Wii
Odyssey>Sunshine>64>Galaxy 2>Galaxy.
But all of them are incredible.
Re: Worms W.M.D. And Overcooked: Special Edition Get Physical On Nintendo Switch In 2018
Cool for some, but at $20 and less than 1GB, Overcooked is definitely something I wanted digitally. I AM waiting for VOEZ physical though.
Re: Video: Bloodstained Development Team Shares New Footage
I was worried about this game for a while, especially as a backer.
Those worries are pretty much gone now. This looks like it could end up pretty great, that ice swordsman's animations and attacks look fantastic.
Re: Ittle Dew 2+ Begins Its Switch Adventure Very Soon
@OorWullie The standard version has always been $20, before the Nicalis partnership, and this version has extra content.
Re: Ittle Dew 2+ Begins Its Switch Adventure Very Soon
@Ervex_109 The fact that you've not even played it and are relegating it to App game level means talking about it with you is pointless.
Re: Ittle Dew 2+ Begins Its Switch Adventure Very Soon
@Yorumi I originally found out about the game through a YouTuber called Hutts who's really good at Binding of Isaac and Ittle Dew 2 kicked his ass haha. Game is definitely a challenge.
Re: Ittle Dew 2+ Begins Its Switch Adventure Very Soon
@JaxonH And if you've played the game on PC, the Switch version has brand new, super hard challenges in a new area called Dream World.
Re: Ittle Dew 2+ Begins Its Switch Adventure Very Soon
@Ervex_109 Absolutely not. If you want to look at pretty things and be bored to tears, get RiME. If you actually want to play a game, get Ittle Dew 2+.
Re: Ittle Dew 2+ Begins Its Switch Adventure Very Soon
So excited for this one. Screw RiME, this is the Zelda clone you're looking for.
Re: Out Today: Five New Switch eShop Games to Spice Up Halloween
Not anything for me today, but still at a pace where there's something nearly every week that I want, so it seems silly to gripe about it.
Re: Review: Volgarr The Viking (Switch eShop)
@Sunanootoko totally different aside from theme. Tiny Barbarian plays more like Mega Man 2, while Volgarr's more Ghosts 'n' Goblins. I like TB way more.
Re: Review: Volgarr The Viking (Switch eShop)
@Kalmaro actually came out 3 weeks ago, review is just pretty late.

Re: Nintendo Titles Get Pushed Down the Japanese Charts as Switch Clings Onto Top Spot
Switch has 4 of the top 5 "not new" games though. Not concerned.
Re: Yoshiaki Koizumi Says Non-Traditional Nintendo IPs Are Bound For Switch Next Year
@tangram they did indeed publish it, but Silicon Knights was the dev. I think Nintendo might develop an M-rated IP.
Re: Yoshiaki Koizumi Says Non-Traditional Nintendo IPs Are Bound For Switch Next Year
I'll bet Bayonetta inspired Nintendo to start their first ever M-rated IP.

Re: Rogue Singularity Will Jump Onto the Switch eShop in 2018
@link3710 those games are not focused on precision platforming. I'm talking Mirror's Edge.
Re: Review: The Count Lucanor (Switch eShop)

Re: Rogue Singularity Will Jump Onto the Switch eShop in 2018
Procedurally generated 3D platforming is the dumbest thing I've heard since "first-person 3D platforming".

Great horror games are rare.
This is a great horror game.

HuniePop 2, BAYBAY!
Re: Team Vampire Triumphs in Latest Splatoon 2 Splatfest
The sadness is real. Oh well, at least I had time to go King this time around. Snails, baybay!
