It's pretty amazing how with the past rivalry, Sega eventually succumbed to Nintendo and lost. It's humiliating really. It's the power of Nintendo. Pretty funny when it happens eventually to Sony too.
As long as Nintendo is King, although I'd prefer an Android sister web-site. Not much use for over-saturated Sony reviews market. The sheer focus on Nintendo is what makes the site unique in my opinion since that's less frequent - places where hardcore Nintendo fans have for themselves.
This score in unacceptable. How could Interplay release a 3/10? Either the review is wrong or something is very wrong here. Is this like Eye of the Beholder? The game looks pretty cool to me.
@SilverBaretta - he's talking about cut-scenes, not a story. Cutscenes are not needed really. The greatest graphic adventure games of Sierra didn't have a lot of cutscenes, and in fact not even a whole lot of story in the beginning.
This compilation also went to the PS3. It has nothing to do with Wiiware "limitations". It's like the bit trip compilation, and it's good it came to the Wii.
@James - well in the article, you said that Nintendo sold 15 million, and their target was 16M until the end of April, that is, so something here doesn't add up. Obviously, if they sold 15M now, they will sell more than 16M by the end of April.
The 3DS has sold in incredible numbers. They are already exceeding their own expectations. Hopefully, this will give a major boost to the share price, so it can recover in time for the Wii U and then go back to the way it was during the Wii peak.
Awesome, this is exactly how it is supposed to be all the time. Pow pow - console and handheld same game releases - bam. Only Nintendo can do this to a wide audience and this is Nintendo's edge, one of them. Should do it really often.
Thank God, since I might buy a PAL Wii U and I have a NTSC Wii so I would be annoyed if there was a reason for me to play these Wii games on the Wii U and I couldn't. On that note, hopefully it won't be region locked.
Amazing. The Wii had plenty of great games, but Nintendo focuses now on the 3DS and needs to develop for the Wii U, and so hopefully third parties. So it's understandable I think.
The next generation of golf games was pretty much confirmed at E3 last year, using the Wii U's camera and sensors, so Nintendo has that covered.
By the way, I don't think there's any news here. All the franchises are expected to move to the the next generation of Nintendo's consoles... and to get more franchises too.
The Balance Board is a brilliant device, and Nintendo should release a new edition of Wii Fit for the Wii U. This device has no parallel in the other consoles. It's actually surprising that they haven't copied this one lol. And the few games (non fit) that make use of it, make good use of it, and it's fun. Wish there were more.
Miyamoto has to oversee the game. Next Level made the awesome Punchout! but they also made that Transformers game. Miyamoto needs to make sure this turns out perfect.
Maybe there's less quality competition in the other consoles, since they don't necessarily have the 400 Virtual Console games with all the great platformers, SNES RPG's and the great classics of Shooters etc. So the download service of the Wii is the best even without any beautifying efforts from Nintendo. It's just there.
@Mandoble - from what I understood, the 360 has an embdeed 10mb eDRAM in the GPU. So this is 70 times stronger than the 360 ? " “the same source says Nintendo been testing two versions of the Wii U, one with 768 MB of RAM, and another one with 1 GB. The RAM is said to be made by IBM and embedded on the CPU.”"
Nothing is going to be stronger than the Wii U. It's a beast this time. Did people read the rumors?
According to the rumor-starter, the Wii U will allegedly pack a quad-core, 3-GHz CPU from IBM into its design, a 45-nanometer PowerPC chip. Wii U Daily goes on to mention that the Wii U will come with 768 megabytes of embedded DRAM – built on the same die as the CPU itself – as well as an "unknown," 40-nanometer GPU from ATI. Or:
Like the Wii, the Wii U will probably use a customized Power Architecture chip. It will be built by IBM using its 45nm SOI process, feature multiple cores and a lot of embedded DRAM, and reportedly it will be similar to the POWER7 chip used by by the Jeopardy!-winning Watson supercomputer. POWER7 is an expensive, server-oriented architecture though — so it wouldn’t be surprising if the Wii U uses POWER6 instead. In terms of raw power, this should put the Wii U way ahead of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Nothing is going to top this. They are reportedly adding to it now so it can stream to two controllers, not one. That's serious stuff.
If the other companies do release consoles, which I doubt at this point, it will most likely be like the Gamecube generation in terms of power.
The Wii U has the potential of being a bigger success than the Wii. It appeals to both hardcore games, bridging the gap with PC's in terms of graphics (since it's confirmed it has better graphics than the 360, and the number of possible buttons on the controller), and also appeals to casual gamers. Most casual gamers have been waiting for the Wii U, and haven't bought any other consoles. Many of them just bought HD tv's now, or will buy them in 2012. People who bought Kinect were mostly current 360 users. Wii U does not need to take any users from 360 or Sony - they are meaningless. It will take new users growing up and wanting consoles, like happened with the Wii, and it will take the 80 million adopters of the Wii.
Wii was a victory for Nintendo not just for that generation of consoles, but it was a general victory for the brand. Everyone knows what a Wii is. And everyone will be excited to buy the new Wii. This thing is going to be huge.
Nic Watt, creative director at Nnooo, told MCV: "WiiWare like all channels for an indie developer is a tough market to compete in. As a small independent developer we have learnt that it is not simply good enough to have a great, highly polished game and expect it to sell well just on word of mouth."
"With Nintendo there is no green light process, or arbitrary requirement to make 3 disc titles before you can make a digital title. If you believe in it and want to make it you can."
"A lot of people talk about the lack of support or lack of focus Nintendo put on their digital platforms and don't realise that for Nintendo it is about marketing the platform as a whole and allowing you, the developer, the room to develop and promote your title as you see fit."
Watt believes that this perceived focus that Nintendo has on its console integrity over its digital distribution channels actually forces indie studios to think harder about how to make their titles cut through.
He concludes: "For us it has taught us the importance of not only making great content but also working out the best ways to market our title to reach as many people as possible. We are happy to support Nintendo and their platforms and are excited about our future on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U."
Like many others have said, it is easier for indie developers to develop for Wiiware than other platforms.
Too much energy and time has been given to this story. This is a developer whose game , soccer bashi, scored a whopping 41 on metacritic. It's in the red. It's not a nintendolife issue - everybody thought it was the worst game in the world.
NintendoWorldReport: Soccer Bashi feels like a glorified flash game. It's the same game that people have been playing on their phones for years now.
Oh I wonder why people would pay for a flash game. Comon' be serious.
There is no reason to take grievances like this seriously. If the World of Goo developer said this, then it's interesting. Even if some of the complaints have merits, let's not forget stuff like this:
(1) Vicarious Visions CEO Karthik Bala has opened up with some info on just how receptive Nintendo is being with the channel. According to Bala, getting a game on the WiiWare channel is a lot easier than going for Xbox Live Arcade. Nintendo is even going out of there way to spread dev kits out there for indie teams.
or this:
(2) The creator of Cave Story, Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya, hasn't received any compensation for Cave Story, a very popular freeware PC game that has gained popularity over the years. Then one day developer Nicalis' Tyrone Rodriguez sent the creator an e-mail that was shown on his official website. He apparently told him who he was and his contributions to the video game industry. He then expressed his interest in moving the Cave Story franchise forward. After a few months and many e-mails, the two agreed on everything. After this they had to choose which platform to release this classic on, and ultimately knew that it'd have to be through one of the big three's download services - WiiWare, PlayStation Network, or Xbox Live. They ended up choosing WiiWare, much to the delight of Nintendo fans. Rodriguez told MTV's Multiplayer blog how supportive Nintendo's WiiWare group was of the game, though at first had to convince them by explaining the new content that would be available.
Many developers always talk out about how supportive Nintendo is, They give out information, and they help with the development. They're open to different genres etc. RedLynx recently seemed to have a lot of fun working on Wiiware. Size limit didn't bother, Nintendo was helpful, and they were thrilled to do it. I'm sure the games sales well, because it's a fantastic game too.
(a) I don't think this will happen - unreliable rumor, like usual with these things (b) I don't think they will be more powerful than the Wii U. The Wii U is a beast in terms of graphics, and any more than that will be pushing the price too high and make no sense. No developer will want higher graphics here for consoles. (c) I don't think there will BE a PS 4 at all. Sony is in really big trouble. Their stock price is terrible, and their TV and Gaming divisions are practically bankrupt. Sony will try to salvage what it can from Vita, and support PS3 for a while like they promised. Last thing they need is another failed launch, or extravagant piece of technology that people won't buy and developers won't understand. Xbox 720 is a different story, but Microsoft will want to focus on Kinect, which was actually a mild, or even a rather nice, success (in comparison to the failure of Move).
You live in ORLANDO, and you're complaining? It's.... I don't know what to say. Orlando. You can go every day and play all the arcades at that Disney indoor place. Orlando. EDIT: the amazing DisneyQuest.
For every whiner that says that they didn't sell enough or that they couldn't develop because of the size limit, or any lame excuse, there is a Bit Trip, there is a Nyxquest, there is a Swords & Soldiers, there is an Art of Balance, there is a World of Goo, there is a MotoHeroz, there is a LostWind, there is a Rage of the Gladiator, and so on. Masterpieces on the Wii are plenty and successful. You just have to be talented.
Lack of weekly sales is a problem, but why does "the sd solution sucks"? it's not. It provides infinite capacity (you can easily switch SD cards) and the Wii will never be "full". This is the main advantage of SD cards. This is miles ahead of some really crappy stuff like iphones, where you have a limited space, and you can't use SD cards, and you actually have to pay (a lot) more if you wanted more space. But then again, Apple has a lot of these crappy greedy problems, and get away with it, with no complaints from the media masses.
I don't have a principal problem with pirating (music, books or games in the 90's, usually pc, or something). But I just can't pirate Wii games. It breaks my heart to think of Nintendo here, to take some crappy cd and burn on it some wonder like SMG2.. if you can legally buy it and it does not cost ridiculous amounts, then when it comes to the Nintendo Wii I will not pirate. Wii is just too much full of heart, and modding it in any way is sacrilege to me.
When they announced that Vita will not include manuals anymore, it is another reason to pirate though.. if you pay $40 a game and you don't even get a manual..."go here to download" (you might as well download more) next there will no box, no cover, and the CD will be plain too.
MadWorld is a not a great example for M rated games on the Wii, since it is, I wouldn't say "cartoony" but a comic-book parody style. However, there are also Scarface, Godfather and Manhunt, so there are a lot of precedents. Download will be simpler, because what's the difference between this and mature content on the web browser? easy for parents to control. I dont' see what's so M rated in this game anyway... it's not porn.
I haven't played this game, but it seems to me that the score is too harsh, especially reading quite a few positive reactions from the game. I wonder how much this game would have scored on the iphone. EDIT: I think the score will be updated to a 4/10 or a 5/10 based on some of the comments... if the reviewer did not know all the controls, then it's a huge part of the review.
@Incognito_D you're right. Hopefully! @MasterGraveheart exactly. it's something that can't happen in retail.. well maybe with a "1 click amazon", but they let you cancel too.
I actually bought the first game by mistake. I cried knowing that I wasted $15. I couldn't believe it. I just wanted to see the price or something, and clicked the wrong button. Horrific experience... Still haven't downloaded the actual game from the Wiiware shop after buying it. Really didn't want to. Oh well. Should give it a go sometime I guess. But $15. Right there. Out of the window.
Had this game for the PC in the 90's. Competing against the LucasArts and Sierra masterpieces, this was an odd pill. But I always came back and tried to understand what I was supposed to do. An interesting Adventure Game for sure, but difficult and puzzly.
**Please** someone tell me what Wiiware demos are available right now? Did they take any out from the last couple of months? I want to log in and download all available demoss, I wasn't able to for a while. Thanks!!!!!!
Very glad this game is coming to NA. IN the future, when people speak of the Wii and its great games, this will be one of the greatest. Otherwise, it would always have had an asterisk. Awesome.
I became sad that I could not play this game (never had a GBA and am not an ambassador), so I found another way... a very nice way, and I am loving it. Sorry Nintendo, hurry up and release these games for the public to earn some more cash
I think this was obvious and there was no question about it, especially with some of the upcoming Wii releases like Xenoblade, Pokemon, Mario Party and others. Nintendo will want to release the Wii U around Christmas, and show off a lot of the launch games in E3.

It could be much worse: http://au.news.yahoo.com/tech-news/a/-/technology/12709795/sony-and-panasonic-brace-for-grim-earnings-season/ This is the first time Nintendo showed any losses, and when the Yen/Dollar situation improves, Nintendo will make huge profits again.

The Wii U has the potential of being a bigger success than the Wii. Had this game for the PC in the 90's. Competing against the LucasArts and Sierra masterpieces, this was an odd pill. But I always came back and tried to understand what I was supposed to do. An interesting Adventure Game for sure, but difficult and puzzly.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd December 2011 (North America)

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd December 2011 (Europe)
Can anyone tell me what Wiiware demos are available right now in NA?
Re: North America, Expect Xenoblade Chronicles Before May
Very glad this game is coming to NA. IN the future, when people speak of the Wii and its great games, this will be one of the greatest. Otherwise, it would always have had an asterisk. Awesome.
Re: Review: Metroid Fusion ( / Game Boy Advance)
I became sad that I could not play this game (never had a GBA and am not an ambassador), so I found another way... a very nice way, and I am loving it. Sorry Nintendo, hurry up and release these games for the public to earn some more cash
Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap ( / Game Boy Advance)
Nintendo should announce that all these games will be available for paying customers soon.
Re: Nintendo Narrows Wii U Release Date Window
I think this was obvious and there was no question about it, especially with some of the upcoming Wii releases like Xenoblade, Pokemon, Mario Party and others. Nintendo will want to release the Wii U around Christmas, and show off a lot of the launch games in E3.
