Re: Anniversary: Can You Believe It? The Nintendo 3DS Is Now 10 Years Old

My 3ds has been a dedicated dr Mario/Tetris machine for my wife for some time now. I picked it up for the first time in forever today and played Mario 3D land. My eyes were on fire about 5 min in. It was a fun little system and did have a good library, but I’m pretty sure I’ll never play it again after today.

I preordered as soon as it was possible. For me it really is the closest Nintendo has ever gotten to recreating the feel of the original super Mario side scrollers in 3D form. A wonderful game and I am excited for everyone who didn’t own a wii u to experience this one. I did revisit it on wii u in 2020 and found it to be a bit slow, so the speed increase for all characters is definitely welcome.

I have ever issue from 1 to 100 with the majority of posters still intact. They are a nostalgic trip for sure, I still read them regularly. I started subscribing again around 2008 and stayed with it to the end. The covers during that time were almost as good as the early days, although the content was usually pretty boring.

After the magazine ended, I switched to retro gamer out of the U.K. It's expensive to get it delivered to Canada, but so worth it.

My least favourite nintendo console and least favourite gaming generation. it was that strange transitional period where games were forced into 3d whether it worked or not. Mario 64 was a triumph, zelda too, but not much else reached their level for me. PC gaming was on fire around this time too and really blew away everything consoles were attempting.

In 2009 my nephew and I played the Wind Waker together slowly over the course of the year. Every time I visited we'd put in and hour or so of play time. He was 4 at the time and just in awe of everything going on in that game. It was great

I'd always give him time to think about the puzzles and ask what he thought we should do to get past them...pretty soon he was figuring them out completely on his own. He's been addicted to video games ever since.

I had my first child (a boy) in June and the Wind Waker will definitely be one of the first games I introduce him to when he's old enough.

So far the only thing I really like about the wii u gamepad is that it did away with the wii u remote. Its a much better way to control games. Now somebody just needs to do something cool with it. It seems like even Nintendo is stumped.

"it's a console every self-respecting Nintendo fan needs to witness in the flesh at least once in their lifetimes."

I played this thing back in the day when it toured Canada's Blockbuster video stores. Once was definitely enough.

And for all the commentors above me with fond memories...I don't believe you. I'm gonna need photo proof that you even own one

Have any games so far really used the gamepad in a revolutionary way? Even nintendo themselves phoned in its potential in their own titles - see mario u.

I see the potential, and I like the console a lot... but it's key selling point seems to be an afterthought in most games.
