Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

To be perfectly honest... I for one am glad nintendo is struggling. Just maybe this will given them a very necessary kick in the patootie. I don't want to see them completely fail of course, but they need a wake up call.

This whole wii u saga so far makes it look like nintendo doesn't understand their own industry...which is very scary as a fan. You've got the jump on the competition and you've taken a very lazy approach to supporting your product.

Did the unbelievable success of the original Wii make them arrogant? They did achieve the impossible with the Wii after all... it somehow became the number one selling console of it's generation while having one of the worst game library's in history.

The overall speed of the wii u just kills any desire I have to use tvii. Maybe when they finally improve the speed i will give tvii another chance.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo AV Famicom

@Tasuki

Almost every model 1 NES I've ever seen suffers from the blinking red light/white screens of death...the tell tale sign of bent pins. The way the NA NES was built pretty much guaranteed this failure over time. Yours must be one in a million to still work fine.

Also somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Japanese version of zelda forced you to use the mic. Shouting into the mic was just an alternative to using a weapon against certain enemies.

Great article!

For those who can't afford to hunt this down (or the equally expensive NA NES2) the cheapest option is changing the 72 pin adapter in the model 1 NES. Its very easy to do.

A new adapter will also go bad over time so buy yourself about 5 and you'll probably be set for life.

Re: U.S. Download Sales Increase, But Physical Games Drop in Popularity

I always choose the retail option if possible, and most of the reasons why seem to be no brainers.

-I can lend the game to friends
-I can resell it if I want
-Its easier to get games for cheap (used or on sale)
-It's not tied to one specific console, where it has to be downloaded again if something goes wrong.
-And the collector in me wants to see that box art on my shelf...

Re: Give Your Wii U A Retro Makeover With This NES Skin

@Jellitoe Its a soft vinyl skin that is very easy to remove. It won't leave anything behind on the console. However these skins are very hard to remove without stretching and ruining them. So once its on there, leave it alone unless you're just going to trash it.

I've owned both the matte and glossy versions for the original wii and I definitely recommend the matte. The glossy is just too shiny and stands out too much.

These skins also require alot of patience. I bough DS skins from this site too a while back and it was a real pain to line it up around the buttons. Getting everything to line up perfectly is a challenge and it never looks as good as the pics on the website.

Re: Mutant Mudds Deluxe Venturing Onto Wii U in Q1 2013

Whenever I want to show people a 3DS game that actually makes great use of the the 3d effect, I always fire up Mutant Mudds.

However, if they don't find an interesting way to incorporate the gamepad into this version, I won't be buying.

Re: Wii U Won't Include Trophies Or Achievements

I'm thinking some of you didn't read the entire article... sounds like games will have achievements in some shape or form... they just won't be stamped on your account for all to see. They are tracked in the game only.

Re: Wii U Web Browser Software Specifications Revealed

Forget the no flash thing... I really hope an on-screen keyboard appears on the controller's touch screen whenever you have to type in the browser. If not, I'll never use this. Scrolling through the entire alphabet to spell out a word is always the worst part of console browsers.

Re: Round Up: Wii U Launch Window Games

In the graphics department the Activision games previewed today looked terrible. Looked like Wii titles that didn't make a deadline... so they got bumped to the Wii U. Really pathetic.

Mario U, Zombi U and Rayman look like guaranteed fun.

Re: Feature: In Defence of Super Mario Sunshine

I bought a GameCube specifically for this game back in 2002. I liked it while playing it...enough to play it through 100%... but I've never had a desire to revisit it, and I'd never recommend it as a must play. It just left me with a "meh" feeling.

I wasn't put off by the island setting and different feel. I was playing Mario games since the beginning... every game was unique.... You never knew what the new Mario game was gonna be like. So when this was released I was just like...."hmm, an island vacation. Ok let's,play."

Maybe if this got a rerelease and worked with the wiimote and nun chuck I'd consider giving it another go. That control scheme for 3d mario is perfection in my opinion. But I'd definitely skip all blue coin hunting and those roller coaster levels...

Re: Talking Point: What New Super Mario Bros. 2 Means for 3DS and Nintendo

I consider the 3d marios (sunshine, galaxy) the true sequels to the Mario games I loved as a kid (nes, snes).

Im not gonna lose sleep over a new 2d Mario not being totally unique and original. They are just fun distractions while I wait for the next "real" sequel. I think its a pretty safe bet nintendo has something special planned for the wii u.
