Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Save Data Is Tied To The Console And Cannot Be Transferred

naut

"...the firmness of Nintendo's wording makes us suspect this may end up being something of a non-issue; it could be that some form of cloud storage for save game data will form part of the company's online subscription service, which launches in full at the close of this year."

I think you're over-estimating them lol. This is Nintendo. Knowing them, there will be no save data solution, and if you lose your system/the system breaks — Tough luck. Start from scratch, valued customer!

Re: Preview: Immersing Ourselves in the World of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

naut

@thomasbw84 Thanks for the preview, I do have a question:

One thing that concerned me about initial gameplay footage was the fact that you could pause and eat at any time--Even during combat. I hate it when action RPGs do this. A good example is the original NieR on PS3. That game is so mind-numbingly easy because any time you ever get low on health, even during a boss fight, you can simply pause and heal. You never die.

This seems to be the same in BotW as well, and yet I hear many outlets calling it the most challenging Zelda since the NES era. If you can heal at any time, how can this be?

Re: Fans "Shouldn't Assume" That The Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer Features "Actual Game Footage"

naut

Cannot believe people are even surprised/shocked/disappointed by this. People like @Lucina are just in complete denial of the facts, lol--Bethesda came out publicly and said the footage was only conceptual and they had no Switch titles to announce at this time.

I was under the impression everyone knew this was a concept reel--I took none of these games (save Zelda, obviously) as anything more than pre-rendered examples. Couldn't believe it when sites started reporting THESE 5 SWITCH GAMES CONFIRMED.

Re: Nintendo Share Value Drops 6.5% Following Switch Reveal

naut

@Caryslan No, we're not looking at another Wii lol. The Wii's success rode on a gimmick--A phenomenon we'll never again see repeated. Granted, I love the Wii and its library. I'm just stating the facts.

I see what you're saying about how does Nintendo set themselves apart from Sony and MS and all that. I really do get it--But at the same time, I don't really see how Switch does the job either. All it is, when you really look at it, is an underpowered console that you can pop off a dock and take places. I think when most people really stop and think, they'll find that they actually have little use for such functionality.

Re: Nintendo Share Value Drops 6.5% Following Switch Reveal

naut

@Caryslan Again, it's not about smartphones being better than dedicated gaming consoles. It's about Switch not having the portability people think it has. It can't fit in your pocket. You want to carry a doggone bag everywhere you go just so you can tote your Switch around?

Re: Nintendo Share Value Drops 6.5% Following Switch Reveal

naut

@Nintendian Yes, gameplay does drive Nintendo consoles--But that doesn't mean they can't accomplish that and have relevant power inside the console. They got so close with Switch. All they needed to do was screw the portability aspect and they would have been golden. Instead, we have to compromise so you can take it off that stupid dock once every 6 months for 10 minutes.

Re: Nintendo Share Value Drops 6.5% Following Switch Reveal

naut

@invictus4000 Again, I don't think they're necessarily comparing the two as much as they're saying:

"You can fit a smartphone (or even a portable console) in your pocket. You can't fit Switch in your pocket."

It has no convenient portability, and people aren't going to be bothered to take it with them versus any other portable device.

Re: Nintendo Share Value Drops 6.5% Following Switch Reveal

naut

I don't think the reaction is so surprising.

Maybe the investors wanted, gee, I don't know, an actual home console to actually compete with the PS4 and One? Is that so much to ask?

Once again, Nintendo dumps their whole dev budget into creating an underpowered device with a silly gimmick rather than creating a powerful gaming platform that isn't years behind its competition. The "take it anywhere" gimmick of Switch isn't as great as people are making it out to be--It only takes some very basic critical thinking to realize this.

I realize people are cringing about the smartphone comment because "ew, smartphones" and I agree, I hate smartphone gaming too. But I think you guys are missing the point. It's not so much that "Angry Birds is better than Mario" but more that people aren't going to carry a doggone iPad with controllers stuck to the side around with them. If they have 10 minutes to kill out and about, they're not packing the Switch for that, they're gonna pull their smartphone out and play a quick round of something, or if not gaming just hang out on Twitter/Reddit or something. In my case, I would pull out my 3DS--Another pocket device that easily fits in my pocket and can be conveniently carried anywhere.

I know some people have lifestyles where the Switch will be useful, but for me personally, I can't think of a single situation where Switch's portability will be convenient. I have a 30 minute daily work commute by car, and I do most of my gaming at home. Even my portable consoles get mostly used on my couch at home. And when I do take them out of the house, they go in my pocket. I'm not taking my backpack everywhere just to tote my Switch around.

Even say, the Japanese, who you would think this would work really well for--When I think about it, I'm not even sure they're going to like this. I lived in Japan for a short period last year, and the trains were always lined with people playing on a smartphone or a 3DS/Vita. I'm not sure even they're going to want to carry around a clunky device they can't fit in their pocket. Granted, the Japanese like to carry bags a lot more than most Westerners do, but even still, why bother when they have phones or portable consoles already?

I just don't get it. I just don't get why Nintendo can't make a modern, high-spec console that's a true-blue console.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

naut

@TrueWiiMaster You essentially say yourself that the heart of Metroid is the exploration. This game doesn't revolve around exploration in the slightest. It's a mission-based co-op shooter. Even Hunters had some openness to it.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

naut

@shaneoh "...it's not an exact match for what I had in mind, but I can live with that."

That's really the key phrase right there. If you like the game, that's great. But I think if you're really honest with yourself, you know that a game about the Federation could have been something much, much more than this.

@Aurelis I'm not a huge Other M fan, but it's most certainly a Metroid game. A weak Metroid game, with an unfortunate portrayal of Samus, but a Metroid game nonetheless with a few redeeming qualities.

@TrueWiiMaster Comparing Mario and Metroid isn't really fair lol. Mario is a goofy, cartoon-esque series that can be whatever you want it to be without sacrificing any kind of image or lore. Mario is great whether he's fighting 1000-year-old demons or playing golf.

Metroid is sort of this "holy grail" series made up of a handful of legendary titles. Even Mario has his bombs. Every Metroid game ever made (except maybe Other M) has been immaculate and has set a very high standard. They've also laid down a very serious and sensitive lore and image for the series.

Sorry, taking a series like that and suddenly making it a cartoon-y, bland, co-op game on a whim is a slap in the face no matter how you look at it.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

naut

There are a lot of people saying things like, "DON'T HATE THE GAME BEFORE YOU'VE EVEN PLAYED IT," etc. etc. And there's a lot of merit to what they're saying. Because, they're right--In a sense, I think there are a lot of times where you really can't truly judge a game unless you've played it first.

That being said, what I think those people fail to realize in this case is that this game should have never been a Metroid game. Even if it is a halfway decent co-op shooter (and I'm sure it is), it should had never borne the Metroid name. No Metroid fan wanted this, and if you're honest with yourself you'll realize that all this was, was an attempt to make a new IP sell better by slapping "Metroid" on the front. Which is, quite frankly, super lame on Nintendo's part.

So it's not so much about trying to paint this game as "THE WORST OF ALL TIME" or some nonsense. It's that this is an irreverent and cheap use of a legendary franchise. No one asked for Baby's First Metroid: Chibi-Force.

Re: Review: Pokémon GO (Mobile)

naut

@C-Olimar Not even a Nintendo game, technically. Nintendo doesn't own the Pokemon IP, and they didn't internally develop this game. It's just some nostalgia-preying, cash-grab mobile game that couldn't even be bothered to implement an actual Pokemon battle system.

Re: Fans Create Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Patch Which Uncensors Western Censorship

naut

@Sn0wCrack Thank you guys so, so very much for doing such a good deed for the community, free of charge. Preserving the game's original form, and making it available to us who aren't fluent in Japanese is really something. Please ignore the idiots in this thread who attempt to discredit your work, or assert that you are some kind of pervert/fanatic.

You guys are appreciated! Keep fighting the good fight!

Re: Fans Create Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Patch Which Uncensors Western Censorship

naut

@Camilla Lol well they upped Tsubasa's age to 18 in the US release, and still censored her anyway, so that logic doesn't really apply. Plus, the "black smoke" I'm referring to is in relation to a grown woman character in #FE who has a rack the size (maybe smaller, even) as Camilla, but it's censored out by black smoke. So, again, You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Also, your "petting wafu thing shouldnt been in the game in the first place" comment just furthers shows your "fanboy-istic" naivety. Nintendo could put Bayonetta in a long skirt and blouse, make her speak like a church organ player, and change the angels/demons to lawn gnomes and you'd still probably defend Uncle Ninty to the death.

Re: Fans Create Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Patch Which Uncensors Western Censorship

naut

@Wexter No one that does this ever gets banned from NN lol. You don't know what you're talking about. It's like how emulation or torrenting is "technically" against the law, but nothing ever happens to anyone who practices it.

In any case, if they did actually want to ban me — Let them. I'll take my games in their original states over playing MK8 on Nintendo's sucky network any day.
