@TechGuy actually this is good as hell and if i was a creator with a platform i'd make this stance too, you should make it explicit that politics of extermination have no place in society, especially when you're a target of those politics.

i'm honestly really torn about whether to get this again; i really enjoyed it back when it first came out, and everything from the soundtrack, the aesthetics and style of the game to the writing and just having a really queer experience (in both obvious and really subtle ways that I just haven't seen in any other game that had a decent budget) was great, but since it turned out the ceo of the studio wasn't paying the people who actually like, Made the thing (+ gross harassment stuff), it's really soured my ability to go back to it.

it's a really great game and I'm sure I'd love it on the switch but the baggage is rough

I will say that my playthroughs have been about 6~8 hours, and even if that seems low it's a pretty dense couple of hours. While I can't drop twenty bucks right now on another copy I'm definitely going to pick this up for the Switch later, it was genuinely one of my favorite games of last year. And to be honest? People complaining about politics in the game (or even Mae being "unlikable" arguably) are missing the point of the game. I could say more but honestly I can see myself lapsing into spoiler territory and I genuinely think it's the kind of game you need to experience before somebody talks about it to you.

love too use my caveman brain and assume "haha, difficulty is always good and anyone who complains Just Cant Games" whenever it gets brought up as a critique

difficulty as a game feature is worthless at best if there's nothing to back it up or make it enjoyable

@ToxieDogg There's a big difference in the opinions, though? Straight characters are common place, where we're basically forced to pick through hundreds of them to find a canonically gay character. Gay characters are already rare enough in media that fans basically have to look outside of canon to find any. Hell, we took the whole "a designer for the original metroid called Samus a transmisogynstic slur in an interview, so she's a trans girl now" as a canon backing. (I mean, she is anyway, but that's besides the point). To then take this incredibly small number and make them straight is way different than to take from basically a giant pile and say "yeah these are gay."

Even just speaking in terms of representation, if I can get personal for a second, I can't think of a canonically bi protagonist off the top of my head, outside of games where you're given direct control over an avatar as opposed to a concrete character (BioWare games and Fallout come to mind, but I think you get the picture). I've been playing games since I was a kid, and I've known I wasn't straight for a while. But I saw almost no representation of bi characters (outside of predatory or harmful stereotypes, or throwing them under the bus in a "they're just confused" way), and this messed with me a lot as a kid. Kids, laypeople, and just people who don't have the time, resources or energy to make video games are basically stuck with an endless hell of straight people, with occasionally some token gays.

I guess, to put this bluntly: it doesn't matter if this doesn't do anything for you. But this really isn't for you. To then turn around and go "there's too many of these things you have so few of" is honestly super insensitive and tone-deaf.

speaking as somebody who is hella bi, I've known people for years that I didn't realize were gay or in a gay relationship. sometimes it's really not that obvious unless somebody brings it up (and frankly if you're gonna go for the "they announced it afterwards for brownie points" I'd point out Dumbledore but that's not the point)
