@3Daniel And I wouldn't have it any other way. Ridley is supposed to be a vile, terrifying monster and his trailer made no bones about hiding that. Stabbing people in the heart for his down special is just the icing on the cake.
I guess Rabbid Kong took that fall caused by Rabbid Peach personally... if this campaign is really around 10 hours, I hope you can recruit more characters than the first three shown. DK is probably the can't-drop hero for this, considering the context actions for him.
I don't get the complaints about losing access to the retro games once the service goes down for good. By the time that happens (which could pretty much be in a DECADE with how good Switch is doing), whatever new gaming console Nintendo would be cooking up will likely have a similar one ready to go.
@Kmno There are a number of recent examples countering your statement, but I'll just leave it at Monster Hunter World, which only sold better than any game they've released ever.
@Saturn_Firefly You're forgetting who's in charge of the Party Crashes in-universe... ARMS Laboratories, aka Dr. Coyle herself, for the purposes of thinly-veiled research. The newly deployed level 8 Hedlok only further cements this. If Coyle ever decides to feature herself in a Crash, it will most likely be against Max Brass, in order to prove once and for all that she is SUPERIOR!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA... ahem
Or she could just snub Max by not featuring him ever. But that's probably not humiliating enough for Coyle's tastes.
@NEStalgia It's called SFV Arcade Edition because it introduces an arcade mode. To be fair, though, new modes don't actually cost anything in that game; early adopters just have to update and latecomers just buy that version with all season1+2 characters to boot.
@Oat Those updates can go for so long because people PAY for those. And I doubt Nintendo wanted impressions of the brand-new ARMS to be tainted by the spectre of paid content controversy.
Isn't low attendance to be expected of a brand-new fighting game? Developing a scene never happens overnight.
Dedication from the fans is all that is needed for that to happen. It's all Smash Bros. (Melee) needed, not once getting sponsorship to help, yet look at it now.
@JTMnM We have seen actual proof of this game's existence in the form of gameplay, unlike every other cancelled Megaman project which were just concepts that didn't get off the ground.
@iLikeUrAttitude And not because it's classic Megaman, literally the most basic of all in terms of gameplay and likewise the hardest to screw up completely? 11 won't be incredible, but there's a very slim chance of it being bad either.
@brutalpanda The amount of actual new characters introduced in MvCI is comparable to the completely from scratch ARMS. Even then, characters are only half of the picture in measuring the latter's roster, the customizable arms significantly alter playstyles as well.
Measuring the value of fighting games based on their content feels a bit off to me. You can stuff them with as many modes and characters as you please, but most will only be played once or require just as much repetition as simply fighting others to get the most out of them, and chances are you'll stick to playing a handful of the massive roster at most. The only questions worth asking if judging a fighting game's worth is if you're willing to learn and master it's mechanics, or have a group of friends also willing to play it with you.
@The_Pixel_King I wouldn't consider Wulverblade a fighting game, it's a beat-em-up. It certainly doesn't have a versus mode to go 1-on-1 with a friend.
@DiggerandIndy I'd argue that in the case of video game-based movies, a lack of ''meddling'' from those who know the respective series best is precisely what caused most of them to flop. Nintendo aren't expert film-makers, but they do know Mario. Their ''involvement'' got us Mario + Rabbids, so I think they know how to not step on toes. Mario is super versatile, and doesn't take itself too seriously.
@Dogorilla We also have to consider that us old, seasoned gamers are not really the target audience for most of Illumination's movies, and that's something we may need to be prepared to accept for this Mario as well.
Something else to keep in mind is that guidance from series's creators is something that was lacking from every other attempt at a video game movie. Film-makers just don't play them, so they pretty much just grabbed surface elements from them then haphazardly created stories after.
@Bolt_Strike The general consensus I seem to hear from fans of the boost style is that, though this game isn't quite as good as what came before it, it's still enjoyable if you liked Generations. I'm inclined to agree with this. But of course reviewers are going to lambast Forces for even slightly dropping in quality, because for some reason Sonic is still held up to Mario standards, even though IMO he never came close to reaching those, not even in his ''good old days''.
To anyone who says supporting this is supporting mediocrity, I say I'm supporting a formula that has proven to be enjoyable on multiple occasions, even if it isn't everyone's cup of tea, and don't think the game should be condemned just because the execution isn't as good. Not bad. Just not as good.
@AlternateButtons The ranking in this game goes off of your score. The end-level time bonus is the largest contributor to that, but rings and defeated enemies matter too.
Don't understand how this discourages exploring. It's not like you're prevented from advancing if you don't get good enough grades. Just decide from the start if you're going for secrets (red rings) or a high score.
For what it's worth, people who actually played this demo are quick to point out it controls fine, it's just the timer killing the excitement. But by all means continue to treat borderline tutorial levels as indicative of the full game.
Anybody trying to construe the minute time limit as a lack of faith in the product better be ready to apply that logic to any game that lacks demos.
Demos rarely have a significant positive impact on sales unless they trick consumers into thinking the real game is better than it really is. Most of the time they reduce them by being too generous and making people feel they got enough game for free, or convincing them they don't like it. To make a demo is pretty much a goodwill gesture towards consumers, because the chances of them increasing profits are slim.
@AlternateButtons I never hear any valid points against this (other than simply not liking boost style in general), just vague bellyaching or ''points'' that are incredibly inane, like ''being too linear''. Because what everyone wants out of Sonic is more Knuckles The Treasure Hunter, apparently.
Something else that may be influencing opinion is the seductive notion of underdog fans making ''better'' games (Mania, AM2R) than big, stupid evil game companies.
@Dr_Corndog All Sonic levels are monotonous to some degree. Even Mania's. Why do you think the ''beloved'' Adventure games mask them with varying character gameplay?
I'm of the mind the ''best'' type of Sonic game is the first one you play. Unless it's 06 or Rise of Lyric.
Gotta love the somewhat silly trend of in-universe explanations of patches, continued here with Lola and which started with Barq's "training" to get up faster. Shows passion and commitment.
@Lalivero Seems too similar to Weavile, unfortunately. I think Snorlax would be an interesting choice, a super slow yet super beefy mon (like 700+ health), with a variant of Pulverizing Pancake as it's super move.
@thesilverbrick Half of those water types are lame fish, though.
@UnseatingKDawg It's (modern) Sonic, second only to Capcom in things internet gamers love to hate. Sonic Mania was classic and therefore good, thus Forces must be bad. Or at least OK, which is also bad.
Everything I've seen of the game suggests that it is at least decent, average at worst. They're playing it safe with this engine, so I'm not expecting anything worse or better than that.
It occurs to me that Infinite actually looks a lot like Darkrai. The claws, only one visible eye... Darkrai's super move in Pokken is even called "Infinite Eclipse".
ARMS isn't the type of game you necessarily want to play every day, but it still remains fun when you do, and unlike most fighting games it is quite simple to get back into your groove after an extended leave.
I wonder how many stamps I'll end up pre-unlocking when the update drops?
@Gridatttack ''Because we're STILL angry about Sticker Star and Color Splash, and now any Mario RPG that doesn't have Toads with hair must buuuuuurrrrrrrrnn!!!!''
For all the bellyaching in the comments, remember that most complaints comparing to the original are irrelevant to the large amount of 3DS or 2DS owners who did not play it on the GBA and most certainly are not going to hunt down a Wii U just for the chance to get it.
Most of the changes in this game are aimed towards those new players.
@BetaBugs64 Yeah pretty much. Just looking at JRPGs vs. Western RPGs says it all: the former has you control a party of defined individuals, the latter is usually a player-customized avatar that is the center of everything.
@Arminillo Samus is TOO bad*** for Japan, unfortunately. They also don't really like the Tellius Fire Emblem games because Ike is too good of a unit. The idea of one-man/woman army just isn't very appealing to them; even various shonen like Dragon Ball, despite having protagonists far above the rest of their casts feature them helping in some way. Maybe Nintendo should release a game with Samus undergoing a training montage with the Chozo.
Something getting glossed over are the balance changes brought to the arcade version once the new characters started dropping. Is there a list of them somewhere?
@edgedino Actually, none of the bosses or even midbosses outside Pirabbid Plant and the final boss are shown to be destroyed or cured. They either just vanish for whatever reason or faint at the most.
@Krillin_ As far as Capcom is concerned, they got the sales they wanted from XX out of the 3DS version. The Switch version is pretty much just a quick and dirty way to get a bit of extra Monster Hunter sales out of the hot new handheld, nothing more.
@90sRetroGaming Or better yet, they could implement it as a mode in a future Prime title, something akin to Splatoon's Salmon Run. Games like these, in my mind have questionable longevity if you don't have a group of like-minded friends to play with, but as a side dish to a robust single-player it seems perfect.
On the other hand you have games like Monster Hunter that can balance single-player and multi well, thanks to loads of content, so a standalone could work as well if properly expanded.
@greengecko007 Can't you just warp away from the cold mountain to the tower or any other shrine if you're short on supplies? And I don't see how the enemies are too strong when they're all the weakest variety you can find, unless you're playing Master Mode which is for challenge seekers anyway.
@ACK Washing machines, at least functional ones slosh water inside of themselves, they don't forcefully launch it out. Leaving it open would only spill a little water in front of it. Thus why the Inkling still has to swing it, with the mechanism serving to add the special swirl to shots.
@ACK Swinging isn't an automatic action like holding a trigger. Besides, it's not really jamming if the fire rate isn't that fast. More like rythmic presses.
@ACK That probably wouldn't change it having the slowest fire rate of all sloshers. For those not in the know, this is essentially a slosher/blaster hybrid, capable of not only lobbing shots over cover but around it as well. In fact the whole kit seems designed to flush enemies out of it one way or another.
@Jayronauron There technically is an indicator for super jump Splashdowns, but if you're inside it when it happens then it's likely already too late to avoid it.
You know what people said about Smash potentially cannibalizing sales of ARMS and Pokken if it was announced? Same deal with XX (WHICH HAS A ******** 3DS VERSION NO ONE REMEMBERS) and Stories. They'd lose the potential sales from established fans on the latter in a heartbeat.
