Re: LEGO Reveals New Donkey Kong Adventure Playsets

megasean

The LEGO Mario sets keep getting better. They're a ton of fun with a kid and bring their imaginations out. The latest was my son, after playing 3D World for the first time, creating a map/course based on different worlds in that game. Some of these sets are displayable, some just have awesome action elements. Buy what suits you because keeping up with all of them was going to be futile for many of us anyway ...

Re: Nintendo And LEGO Reveal Brand New Super Mario Expansion Sets

My 4-year-old and I have had a blast with these. Have Mario, Luigi, and a handful of expansion sets. The ones with play-action elements are definitely fun, and we've found a few ways to come up with games (e.g. build a course and the other plays, play simultaneously for the most coins, play for a specific number of coins, build and rebuild, etc.). A lot of charm to these sets, and the expansions keep getting better and better.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

I have a feeling that, since this new pack is only offered yearly, that the DLC is purchased and not rented. So it subsidizes the first year at the very least. If they offered a monthly plan, then of course you couldn't throw in the DLC as a purchase, since people could get $25 of content for a much lower cost of one month. Hard to believe that DLC would be rented.

Re: Lovely Fan Animation Shows Star Fox In The Style Of Paper Mario

@FantasiaWHT While It's true that Nintendo hasn't taken the paper concept to other franchises, they have extensively used canvas, yarn, and papercraft in the Yoshi and Kirby series. And it's worked well in those cases!

This is absolutely amazing, by the way. Major credit to the creator of this!! It's one thing to demonstrate an idea, but it's another to have spot-on art direction and execution!

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite Nintendo Switch Online NES Games

megasean

@Maulbert Love it! Here would be my ratings:

MM1: 8
MM2: 10
MM3: 10
MM4: 7
MM5: 8
MM6: 9

MM4 vs. MM5 are the games I always go back an forth on. The story in MM4 was pretty great the first time and does have its merits. But it has some roughness around the edges (including music). MM5 has an epic quality to it ... but also some overly long levels that don't accomplish as much as the ones in the other games. You could easily catch me flipping those scores, or putting them both at 8 depending on the day you ask me. For all its flaws, MM1 does some things that I think make it easy to underrate ... breaking into Wily's Castle is an awesome, but subtle, gaming moment. I like every part of MM6 except the story being a dud after two straight good ones.

And MM9 is a 10 for me as well, MM10 is a 9

Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles

GREAT update. Panel de Pon (Tetris Attack) is one of my favorite puzzle games along with Dr. Mario. Will lose hours playing that in online two-player. I bought Wild Guns Remastered when it was on sale for $10, but this would have been a great way to try it out for the first time at the very least. Any online two-player game should be viewed as a positive. Not familiar with the others, but I think this was well worth the wait and not at all what I would have expected them to add.

Re: Reminder: Nintendo's Wireless SNES Controllers Are Back In Stock (North America)

"I still say you're better off buying one of the 8BitDo 3rd party controllers that actually have all modern buttons and can be used with any game, but hey, these are neat too, I guess."

@HeavyArms55 I see this often and understand the sentiment ... but I disagree. Playing a precision platformer (Mega Man Legacy Collection) with the NES/SNES controller vs. my 8BitDo SF30 Pro shows the quality of Nintendo's controller. Nintendo's classic d-pads are just far more precise, as well as their controllers having generally better feel to the face buttons. I can only speak to the 8BitDo that I have, and it is a tremendously versatile and reasonably priced controller. But if you can spring for Nintendo's NES/SNES controllers, I highly recommend it. I did.
