Following on from last week's surprise announcement of Luigi's Mansion sets, Lego has now revealed some exciting new Super Mario expansion sets.
Nintendo shared this news on its social media accounts, which also confirms they'll be arriving early on in 2022. Check them out above and below. As you can see, some familiar faces return.
"Add beach challenges, flying fun, and even more characters to your #LEGOSuperMario world with the brand new Expansion Sets – launching early 2022!"
And here are the names and set numbers (thanks, The Brick Fan):
- Bowser Jr’s Clown Car Expansion Set (71396)
- Dorrie’s Beachfront Expansion Set (71398)
- Big Urchin Beach Ride Expansion Set (71400)

I wonder if they'll ever release a good looking Mario figure.
now if they worked on LEGO switch that bee good. Wondering when we will get LEGO Amiibos?
Regardless of opinion on the iffy designs, you gotta admit it’s cool how deep they’re going with some of the more niche enemies and scenery now!
@Sinton It's just Minecraft-y enough to appeal to kids. Someone knew what they were doing with the design, I think lol.
Just hurry and announce the lego mario game
Is anybody buying these?
I understand that these are selling well, but I still don't fully understand how they're intended to be played with.
I have a few sets at home, and my nephews aren't really digging them. Building courses and completing them isn't really fun in any obvious manner.
@Gryffin I just have the Mario starterpack and a (free!) characters from a toyshop - didn't had to do a lot for it. -
But maby with Waluigi, Lego Mario Kart.... (Lego Super Smash?)
Also curious about a Super Mario Galaxy Set or a Princess Peach castle set...
hm
if it will ever come.
My 4-year-old and I have had a blast with these. Have Mario, Luigi, and a handful of expansion sets. The ones with play-action elements are definitely fun, and we've found a few ways to come up with games (e.g. build a course and the other plays, play simultaneously for the most coins, play for a specific number of coins, build and rebuild, etc.). A lot of charm to these sets, and the expansions keep getting better and better.
WEN LEGO SET ZELDA?
Reminder: If you can comment on this page you're to old to be the target demographic for these sets.
That 800M dollar put in that category of R&D is already paying off lol
They’re gonna have to give us minifigures eventually
Very cute. Not sure if I want to buy more sets but these are adorable.
It gets ***** for the design but I played this with my younger cousins and they loved it and it was so cute and heartwarming to see them build up new levels for us to “compete” with each time.
Nice! I hope some of these new enemies come to the blind bag series. They look a lot nicer in person than in photos in general, but I don’t really have space for the big courses so the little bags are perfect for me.
@WeltraumDreamer I have the NES & ? Block plus every NASA set they've ever done. You don't have to tell me.
That said, my point stands. These Mario sets aren't for teens or adults.
I see these sitting on shelves at target and walmart where I live. I don't think they're selling too well.
@tylerryan79 that’s what I think about Lego in general, just sitting on the shelf and overpriced. But apparently it sells
Give us real sets you cowards!
@Noble_Haltmann
That's Dorrie, from Mario 64 and Odyssey.
Plessie would be just a reskinned Cloud or presumably, a reskinned clown car.
Come on LEGO, when are we getting the Little Timmy Expansion Set? You Teased it with that photo!
