Re: Review: Final Fight (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

madgear

I can't believe this game has got 7 out of 10. As a Final Fight fan, I'd say avoid at all costs. This review seems to point out what is missing as a little side note, but they're a big deal. This is a lack of a two player option in a side-scrolling beat-em-up for a start. A full character is missing that many regard as one of the best to play as (and considering his future stardom in the Street Fighter series, it's not like he's a minor character) and an entire level! The missing factory level is also host to an appearance by future Street Fighter Rolento too - such a crime. Oh, and on top of that, the female Poison character has been changed into a male punk. Also the animation is way below the standard of the arcade and a ton of background detail is missing (and I mean a lot).

Even if you're the world's biggest Final Fight fan, like I am, I wouldn't bother getting this game and wait for the arcade version (or the Mega CD). I've been without a version of Final Fight for years now but still can't bring myself to get this crap.

Re: Review: Last Window: The Secret of Cape West (DS)

madgear

This is so sad. I LOVE Hotel Dusk and I have both Another Code games (DS and Wii) - they're so well made and I can't believe a company that makes such fine products has gone bankrupt.

I will definately be buying this game 100% - and on day one too just incase there's a chance it has a limited shelf life. I can't risk missing the sequel to one of the greatest adventure games I've ever played.

Lol @ bboy2970 - I can't believe someone has asked if they speak English in the UK. Maybe the US education system really is failing its students. Anyway is this really not coming to the US? I know Another Code R didn't make it over there - I wonder why Cing games get a UK release but not US.

Re: Super Mario Collection Special Pack Revealed

madgear

generally I'd like a disc release but I thought this would Super Mario Allstars done with Wii standard graphics - i.e. New Super Mario Bros. This is quite the let down as a Virtual Console release would be better value to me.

Saying that, though, I bet it is bound for the Virtual Console in the west. Would make more sense - we'd miss out on the CD but that's something I can live without.

Re: Review: Samurai Shodown III (Virtual Console / Neo Geo)

madgear

SonicMaster - I think SS2 is the best in the series personally (just like the first game but more to it) but it's not very hard. Saying that, I've never managed to finish it - it's incredibly easy until you fight the last boss, who is impossible! Technically I should have beaten it since I win one round almost every match but I can just never do two rounds in a row - incredibly frustrating but my bad luck has to run out one day.

Re: Takashi Iizuka Interested in Creating NiGHTS 3

madgear

But it didn't miss the mark - at all. The basic scoring play was still in place, the extra levels only have to be played once. After you finish it, just select the chase missions and you never have to see a cut scene or different style of play just like the original Nights, so I don't see what the problem is with it.

As for the chase missions being different - yes they are but only slightly. They improve the scoring by eliminating infinite links, meaning you have a limited time to get a high score - adds more purpose and is a fairer system without changing play drastically.

Re: Review: Another World (Super Nintendo)

madgear

Another World is a work of art. The graphics were amazing for the time, it has beautiful environments and a great sense of mystery. The best part of the game, however, is how the story is told. It's completely without text or dialogue - like a silent movie. However it still portrays an emotional story - you feel Lester and the alien actually become friends and the ending is quite a sad one.

I'd love to see this on the Virtual Console but, if it does happen, I reckon a Wiiware version with enhanced graphics (like the 2006 release) is more likely. I don't think Delphine exists anymore and the original creator bought back the rights to the game.

Re: Review: F-Zero GX (GameCube)

madgear

It's absolutely fantastic - if insanely hard. I remember when I bought this (along with Mario Kart Double Dash) I thought gaming had gone back to what it should be. They had the same charm as the old SNES games with a modern look.

Anyway it's still a lot of fun even with such a hard difficulty. I rarely come first outside of the novie tracks but I wouldn't call that a fault - just requires dedication and skill to beat (which I seem to lack).

Re: First Impressions: GoldenEye 007 Multiplayer

madgear

Yeah I don't understand either. I've not really played the original Goldeneye other than a few brief goes on the multiplayer. However I've been looking at videos of both this game and the original and fail to see much of a difference - other than the improved graphics.

Maybe I've just not played the game enough, but what was so different in the original Goldeneye that a modern FPS tends to neglect? Surely a modern FPS game has only improved on this type of game - or are we just wanting things to be 100% exactly as we remember them?

Re: MundoRare Shuts Down After Losing Faith in Rare's New Direction

madgear

Rare are always going to be haunted by their old Nintendo titles. Their fans expect them to release something like Donkey Kong Country or Goldeneye - but they can't. Most of their classics have rights issues (there's no way Nintendo would let them use their characters for a start) so their only option is to create something new. However people seem to be expecting Nintendo titles - but they're not Nintendo, they're Rare. It's pointless trying to please their old audience when they're now developing for a new one - they have to change, move on and just try to develop some great games and move away from the past.

Re: First Impressions: Disney Epic Mickey

madgear

I don't know why the graphics in the game arn't done in the same style as the cutscenes (first two screenshots). That style suits it so much better and the whole game should have that look - the 3D sections just look too dated to me, a bit like something from the PS2.

Re: Epic Mickey Brushes with Paper and Digital Comic Books

madgear

Actually I'm also confused about the graphic style of this game - the first two screenshots have a cel-shaded look but the rest look like normal 3D. What are the graphics actually like in the game? I have to say I prefer the look in the first two screenshots.

Re: Oh Look, Australia Gets to Sin and Punish Too

madgear

Yeah it's such a crime Australia didn't get this. It seems pretty messed up over there when it comes to releases (arn't several games even banned?).

I think this is why region free is important. Why should you be denied such a quality title just because of where you live? If Nintendo doesn't think your market is worth the effort to release decent games in, they should at least allow the option to get them from overseas.

Re: Last Window Coming to Europe in September

madgear

Thank you! I absolutely love Cing's games and was heartbroken to find out the went into bankruptcy and that this game might never see a release. I'm so happy I'll be able to play it now - I loved Hotel Dusk and can call it my favourite DS game so I'm more than happy about this.

Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd July (Europe)

madgear

I know this might sound wierd but I think I've seen those Ufouria characters before - on a level in Lemmings on the Megadrive ... might be wrong, was like 15 years ago, but that's what they remind me of.

Re: E3 2010: 3DS Could be Region-Locked

madgear

I hate anything being region locked. People these days travel around the world a lot and, especially with handhelds, they sometimes like to keep some of their games when they move. I don't think it's right you can legitimately buy a game, move country then it no longer works on your new machine (or if you keep your old machine, new games wont work but your old ones will).

Re: E3 2010: Wii 2 Will Probably be 3D, says Iwata

madgear

Please stop this 3D rubbish! There's no way I'm going to buy into it simply because I'm not going to wear glasses every time I have to play a game. 3DS is great - it doesn't requires glasses and it's even optional. There is no way I'll ever buy a 3D TV even if they become cheap and in everyone's homes - I'll wear the glasses for the odd cinema trip but that's it.

Re: E3 2010: Donkey Kong Country Returns This Fall

madgear

Haha remember when the original Donkey Kong country was first shown and people thought it was a 32-bit 3D game from Nintendo's next console? I guess now it really is a real 3D game - it's like we saw 15 years into the future back then.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Shoots to Number Two in UK Charts

madgear

Yeah it is a bit stupid releasing it on the opening day of the world cup. This is one of the most eagerly awaited games for me and I have the money but I'm going to wait until the tournament ends as I just wont have the time to play it with all the games. I'm even watching one right now...

Re: Epic Mickey May Get a New Lick of Paint at E3

madgear

Yeah I was somewhat disappointed with how it looked from the screenshots. Wasn't bad looking but looked like a game from 10 years ago and wasn't that impressive when compared to the fantastic concept art.

I'm looking forward to it regardless, being a bit of a Castle of Illusion fan, bit this can only be good news.

Re: Dennis Hopper Passes Away

madgear

DSi - if you want to see him in a film do not watch the Super Mario Bros Movie. Watch Blue Velvet, True Romance, Apocalypse Now and he played an excellent bad guy in Speed.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri, Sin and Punishment Nowhere to Be Seen in UK Charts

madgear

On one hand you could say the casual market is killing off such fine titles - but I don't think that's the case. These great titles will always be made and those of us in the know will always be able to snap them up. It's just a shame the vast majority are paying more for extremely inferior titles - but then that's not our problem. I can play the likes of Sin & Punishment and that's all that matters to me.

Re: La Mulana Developers Discuss Religious and Rating Issues

madgear

I'm totally against censorship and really don't see what the problem is. Not only are they the breasts of a statue - they're the breasts of a digiatally pixellated drawn statue! But then if it was a photo of real breasts I wouldn't see what the problem is either - I fail to see how that would ever hurt anyone. Really, give me one example where exposed breasts in any form of media have caused any sort of damage - and don't say that Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident. I mean, really, in what way were people worried that would corrupt or hurt anyone?

As for drawing Mohammed - I don't agree with censorship of that either. Sure it pisses people off, but it's not my religion and I don't want other people's views forced on me. It's just tough. If someone who followed a different religion didn't follow the rules of the one I follow, I couldn't care less - it's not their religion, so I'm not expecting them to follow it.

Re: Galaxy 2 Bonus DVD Detailed, Definitely Won't Play on Wii

madgear

Why don't they just release a DVD channel in the Wii shop? Yes I've heard the "everyone owns a DVD player anyway" excuse but I'd be so much better to just have one small box under my TV. Also the Wii uses a damn remote anyway that'd be perfect for DVD playback - just like it works great on the iplayer.

Re: Review: The King of Fighters '95 (Virtual Console / Neo Geo)

madgear

Well 95 is just better than 96 in my oppinion. I just say that for nostalgia reasons, prefer the stages, the music etc. Technically I have no idea - they're both fun to play. And yeah 98 will be a bit of a wait if you want it on VC but there's always the King of Fighters collection if you want it now.

Re: Review: The King of Fighters '95 (Virtual Console / Neo Geo)

madgear

95 is actually my favourite King of Fighters. Might be down to nostgia of the Saturn version but it's definately up there with the best fighting games of that era. Infact I wouldn't say hold off until KoF 96 - I think that's a slightly poorer title. I'd say hold off until 98 if you want some great improvements.

Re: Nintendo's Upcoming U.S. Release Schedule Gets Updated

madgear

Yes! This is great news for me - I have 3 Metroid games I need to play through before Other M and now I have the time to do it. You could say I could just wait before buying it, but games have such short shelf life it always seems hard to find a new copy a couple months down the line.

Re: Talking Point: The Virtual Console's PAL Problem

madgear

since you can select 50hz in the Wii option menu then why not just have them 50hz when that is on, 60hz when it's on 60hz - simple. If people really must play 50hz Sonic then they can if they wish, but the rest of us can play it full screen and full speed.

Anyway the 50hz thing doesn't bother me so much - it's the fact some of my VC games don't work through the component cables! It's a pain in the arse having to switch to scart just to have a 20 minute go on Gunstar Heroes.

Re: Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Could Be On Its Way

madgear

Oh Capcom could get Marvel licence - I don't see why they wouldn't be able to since every company that has had it after them have churned out abysmal games at best.

I don't see why games companies are treated differently to movie companies. Multiple movie studios can acquire the rights to marvel characters but only one games company? Sort it out!

Re: Super Mario Kart Races to Europe on Friday

madgear

FIIIIINAAAAAAALLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The main reason I bought my Wii and, after a very long wait, it's finally on the VC and I can shift those points I bought for it in bloody November!

I actually didn't think it'd come out this weekend. I thought after Nintendo had given us 6 VC titles over three weeks in a row, that'd be enough for us for a while. This is great news - Rondo the other week and Mario Kart this week. Oh wait - just remembered I'm busy entire easter weekend tho - damn.
