Re: Hanabi Festival 5 to Happen Soon?

madgear

OK this is good news - I just hope we get Mario Kart this weekend before it starts. If not my Mario Kart points (which I've had on my Wii since bloody November now!) will be going on Rondo. At least they'll be gone - there's no time limit on when you have to use them is there?

Re: Cing Goes Bankrupt

madgear

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
I have all their games too

hopefully this doesn't mean the end for the Hotel Dusk sequel. Oh how I love Hotel Dusk.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th February 2010 (Europe)

madgear

Arrrrggghhhh stupid Mario Kart!!!! I gave in & bought a SNES with it but it doesn't work! I don't know if it's the SNES or the game but one thing is clear - I'm cursed! Sorry but Europe will never get Mario Kart because of me (or you will & my Wii will just break).

Re: Warner Bros. Interactive Announces New Batman Game for Wii and DS

madgear

Well it does have a camp looking logo so could well be for all I know. Saying that, though, wouldn't it be great if they did like a Batman Generations game? Play as West, Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney or Bale against the range of villains from film and TV.

Watch Bale's Dark Knight clobber Cesar's Joker .... or West take on Ledger's version...yeah, ok, I've had too much coffee I think.

Re: Rogue Listing On Retailer Website

madgear

I still think the Rogue Squadron games are the best Star Wars games ever made. When I play a Star Wars game all I want to do is blow up the Death Star as Luke, fly the Millenium Falcon or bring down an Imperial Walker with a tow cable. As far as I'm aware, this series is the only one that lets you do that outside of the arcades.

However I'd prefer a new title in the series that follows all the key scenes from the original trilogy (and bonus if new trilogy too) just like the second game was to the first.

Re: Big Nintendo News Incoming

madgear

The virtual console arcade announcement was a year ago? I was so excited about that and all I've got out of it is Golden Axe. Where's Final Fight, Street Fighter 2 and TMNT eh? eh? It's been a year!

Re: Nintendo Wins Another Piracy Court Case

madgear

I don't understand why people rip and upload games onto the internet when it's such a risk and they get nothing for it in return. I mean it's the same thing as walking down the street and some guy coming up to you and saying "hey, will you break into that shop and steal that jewellery for me? I'd do it myself but I don't want to get my finger prints everywhere, so would you mind"? then actually going in and doing it for him.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd January 2010 (Europe)

madgear

I was extrmely pleased to hear about the Virtual Console when it was first announced. I hate the idea that all these classic games could just be forgotten. That's why I think the VC is a very important part of the Nintendo shop & shouldn't be relegated behind Wiiware like it has.

These classic games are a part of gaming history, many of which are considered masterpieces. Wiiware is all well & good for a cheap gaming alternative to disc based titles but to focus on just that & not VC is like the film industry ignoring Citizen Kane & focusing only on the straight to video releases.

Re: Project Needlemouse to Focus Solely on Sonic?

madgear

I'd be pretty much certain that this game will come out on the Wii. What is throwing everyone off is the advert says that it is "coming soon in HD" but the Wii is the platform where Sonic games really sell.

Sonic has made way more appearances on the Wii than on any of the other consoles and it's the machine all Sonic fans have adopted to play all his games. Along with New Super Mario Bros Wii, people who want a dose of new retro action will have also bought a Wii for that reason. To not release it on Wii would be like making Avatar and only releasing it in Holland.

Re: Nintendo Download: 15 January 2010 (Europe)

madgear

Argh I still have those damn points I bought for Mario Kart well over a month ago! I wont be downloading anything until it's out (not through principle - just nothing I want again).

Y'know in over a month we've had ONE vc game. No Mario Kart, no Alpha 2, no Indiana Jones ... we're falling way behind

Re: Even More Nintendo Titles Get The Axe

madgear

I hate that games have such a short shelf life. I remember in my younger days when I used to have to save up for games - I'd spend months collecting enough to buy a new titles and, by the time I had enough, it had been discontinued from sale.

After the arrival of ebay, I spent years trying to catch up on some old titles I missed. I wish games were just available forever

Re: Sega: Nintendo Should Support Mature Gamers

madgear

"Sega just needs to come to terms with the fact that it does not make good games and never did."

Woah woah woah! Outrun, Afterburner, Sonic The Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage series, Shinobi, Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter series, Virtua Cop, The House of the Dead, Daytona USA, Skies of Arcadia, Sega Rally Championship, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Nights, Panzer Dragoon series, Phantasy Star Online, Rez....that's just off the top of my head!

Re: EA Makes NBA Jam Wii Officially Official

madgear

As long as there's no licensing issues with using older teams and players, I bet the original arcade is unlockable. But whatever, I'm just excited to see what a modern update of NBA JAM will be like.

Re: Nintendo No Longer Publishing Metroid Prime Trilogy in US

madgear

Oh everything is a "collector's edition" these days but they never usually disappear. I often wonder what type of collectors they are aiming them at. Like you'll see a DVD of Finding Nemo that says "collector's edition" on it - but what collectors? Collectors of Finding Nemo DVDs? You'll also find that this Collector's Edition is the most common version - the original basic release would have been in more limited numbers - so therefore surely the original would be of more interest to Finding Nemo DVD collectors than the actual "Collector's Edition", right?

Re: Konami Readying Castlevania Collection For Wii?

madgear

Please let this be true! I've never played Symphony of the Night through properly but it's my fave of the series from what I have played of it. I own it on the Sega Saturn but, unfortunately, that means I can't read the text so I alway just play as Ritcher.

I'd love to play through the full game as Alucard as it is meant to be played - and if it's on the Wii too that's even better!

Re: Capcom Growing Less Keen on Wii?

madgear

How many on-rail shooters featuring zombies have there been on Wii now? There's Umbrella Chronicles, The House of the Dead Overkill and The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return before Darkside Chronicles was released. That's 5 very similar games all of high quality. I think it's pretty safe to say anyone looking for a zombie shooter now probably already has one of those.

Re: Review: Final Fight 3 (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

madgear

I never really liked Final Fight 3. The only Final Fight games I like (and I truely love them) is the original arcade game and the Mega CD version. I can't bring myself to buy this one either so I shall still remain Final-Fight-less on my Wii for a while longer...

Re: More Epic Mickey Details: Inspired by Mario and Zelda

madgear

I don't think the problem with the graphics is it's too cartoony - I think it's just missing certain technical aspects we're used to seeing these days.

I mean the floors and walls could use some bump mapping, for example, and some higher resolution textures. I suppose they could be going for a "drawn on paper" look, but those flat flowers and tiles on the floors really do make it look like a PlayStation 1 game.

Re: Talking Point: Are Rereleases Killing the Retro Market?

madgear

I don't see the problem with this at all. Look at the film industry - can you imagine if the only way you could watch Star Wars was by bidding ridiculous amounts on a rare 70's VHS tape? No - you can go into the high street and buy a nice new DVD of it for just a couple of quid. Why should games be any different? Why should only the elite collecters who are willing to pay high prices be the only ones who can enjoy these games?

Though I do think that sometimes games companies simply refuse to re-release classics. I mean what would some of the most anticipated games for re-release be? Shenmue? Panzer Dragoon Saga? Radient Silvergun? They're epic games that everyone should be able to play - I'd like to see all games available at some point - they're works of art and shouldn't be forgotten like this.

Re: And The Most Pirated Wii Games Of 2009 Are...

madgear

Yeah I only "pirate" games I can no longer buy - usually some obscure games from old systems via emulation. I know it's still not entirely legal but there's no other way to play them and I'd buy them if they were released on the Wii or something.

Re: Nintendo Download: Tomena Sanner, Happy Hammerin', Dragon's Lair, Miami Nights and Texas Hold'em (EU)

madgear

I stocked up on Wii points before the start of Christmas - mostly in anticipation for Super Mario Kart. This is the third Friday of my holiday now and still no Mario Kart - or anything for that matter!

I'm tempted to just spend my points on a couple of Sega games now since they're cheap such as Gunstar Heroes - but no, the game's arn't compatible with the component cables!

I'm not one to complain usually if there's a week where nothing interests me, but no VC releases at all and still broken compatibility with the games I would consider buying makes it a terrible service for me at the moment.

Re: Review: Dragon's Lair (DSiWare)

madgear

I wouldn't be so harsh on this game - it's from 1983! I mean digital music wasn't even that common back then, never mind digital video. It might not be much of a game but it's a technical acheivement for the time and a peice of gaming history.

I mean it wasn't until the mid 90's that the technology to re-create this in the home was available. Any of you who were old enough to play arcade games in 1983 may have thought the price of the game was a lot to pay back then, but when you think these gamers were actually getting a glimpse of future technology it doesn't seem so harsh.

Re: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood Getting Long Overdue Western Release

madgear

Oh just transtlate the bloody thing. We don't need to preserve the original feel when hardly any of us played it originally anyway - and it'd make it a more enjoyable experience if we knew what was going on.

I don't see the problem with translating old import titles and releasing them on the VC. Everything else is intact - the graphics, the music, the gamplay - just we also know what the hell is going on. Don't give me all this elite "let hardcore gamers play it" - if I want to play Rondo of Blood but with English text then that's what I want to do. The fact I actually want to read the text too doesn't make me a casual gamer - or should I have just learnt Japanese for the sole purpose of a few forgotten imports?

Re: Review: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Wii)

madgear

Along with the Umbrella Chronicles, most of the graphics for all the pre-Resident Evil 4 games have been re-done in real time 3D. I'd love it if the entire series got remade for the Wii in Resident Evil 4 style. Maybe we could have 2 collections - Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 1 and a sequel with 2, 3 and Code Veronica.

Re: Nintendo Blocking Third Party Releases On Virtual Console?

madgear

This is a load of crap. For a start there's no way Mario Kart is a struggle to get running on the Wii - if a kid programming an emulator in his bedroom can get it running on a damn mobile phone then Nintendo themselves can get it running on the bloody Wii!

Also why would Nintendo block a game like Street Racer and not, say Kid Chameleon (a Mario clone), Turrican (a Metroid inspired title) or the countless Zelda inspired games on there? I mean they have Mario's main rival Sonic on there! I don't know where you got this news from, but it sounds like typical internet fan specualtion. "Oh Mario Kart isn't on the VC yet - it must be hard or impossible to emulate!!" it's a load of bull - yeah some games are hard to emulate to people who do them as a hobby but I can tell you now that Nintendo will find no trouble at all converting ANY of their past catalogue on to the Wii.

Re: Super Mario Kart Hits Virtual Console on Monday

madgear

Great news but I thought it'd come to the UK first as Nintendo having been doing with most of their big VC titles - oh well can't have them all.

Hope we get it soon - it's such a fantastic game. I'd go as far to say it's one of the best 16-bit titles of all time. I've actually played it recently on a friend's old SNES console and it's still just as fun - I suppose if you have never played it before it wont have the same appeal, but if you have then the nostalgia goes through the roof!

Re: Review: Final Fight 2 (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

madgear

I love Final Fight but the sequel is poor. Infact the SNES conversion of the original is poor too. My advice is to avoid anything with the Final Fight name on the SNES. OK that's a bit harsh as Final Fight 2 is a fun game, but it's just nowhere near as awesome as the original arcade game.

I'm so desperate for Capcom to release the arcade version of the original. I haven't had the privilidge of owning a decent version of Final Fight since I bought it for the Mega CD in the mid 90's (and no I've never had a PS2 incase you're thinking of pointing that out).

Re: Ryo Hazuki to Search for Sailors in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

madgear

Arghhgh!! I saw that screenshot and thought "oh man!! Shenmue is coming to Wii!!!!" then realised it was a cameo in a racing game. Whilst still cool it got my hopes up.

With the exact same thing happening yesterday with the Jet Set Radio announcement, I don't think I can take much more Sega related disappointment.

Re: Review: Biker Mice From Mars (Super Nintendo)

madgear

I remember seeing the cartoon of this when I was a kid and thinking it just looked like a cheap Turtles rip off. The cartoon may have been bad but you can sometimes get a great game from a bad licence. Micro Machines is another similar game with a strange license.

Re: Nintendo Download: Super Star Wars, Golden Axe, Magnetis, PooYoos and MySims Camera (EU)

madgear

Yes Golden Axe at last!! I've been wanting to download the Megadrive version for ages but never did since it doesn't support component cables - now I can finally get it (and a superior version to boot).

I might get Super Star Wars too - it's a tough decision that one though. On one hand I have a few nostalgic memories of it but on the other I found it too tough for its own good. It felt almost unplayable to me as a result. Is it possible to finish it without cheating or anything?

Re: First Impressions: Classic Controller Pro

madgear

I'd get one if they worked with GameCube games. As it stands, I'd much rather use the same controller for both GameCube games and VC titles - I know the GameCube Controller isn't perfect for all VC games but I can get used to it. I'd love a classic controller that'd do both, though.

Re: Wii Internet Channel Now Free!

madgear

By the way - can someone recommend a good NES game for me? I already have Ninja Turtles and all the Mario games. I've never owned a NES so wondering what the true classics are (Megaman, Castlevania?)

Re: Wii Internet Channel Now Free!

madgear

Excellent - the internet channel gets lots of use from me. I love just sitting on my sofa flicking through youtube - with updated Flash I'm not just limited to there now.

Though I guess now the original announcement of an Internet Channel update back in December actually was a hoax. Why would anyone hoax that? It has to be the stupidest "joke" ever. I mean fake announcing an Internet channel update is hardly along the same lines as "OMG Metal Gear Solid 6 Wii Exclusive!!111!!" now is it?

Re: Review: Namco Museum Remix (Wii)

madgear

They could, like, update the museum to include a few newer games like Ridge Racer, Time Crisis, Tekken and stuff maybe? It's been about 13 years and Namco Museum gets re-released so many times with the same old games.

Re: Gold Nintendo World Championships Sells for $17,500

madgear

I don't get it - what's so great about it? Is it just because it's rare? I have some rare titles myself but I only spent like £10 on them when they were first released - as much as I love them, I'd never even consider paying over £100 for any of them (even though some are worth that now).

I just don't think a game is worth that price - rare and collectable or not. Granted if someone were to pay me a ridiculous amount for one of my games I'd gladly accept though - any offers?

Re: Check Out A New Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles Trailer

madgear

Yay some Code Veronica love! I must get this now (well I'd have got it anyway but a bit more excited about it now).

Though I just can't help but think that if they've remade the graphics for every single Resident Evil now in real 3D, why not release updated versions of all the games in the series?

Re: New Wii Zelda Won't Be Radically Different, Says Miyamoto

madgear

I'm glad they're keeping it the same - I loved Twilight Princess. Though, maybe this time, could they possibly record voices? We can't keep it without speech forever. I mean you can keep Link mute - he never has any dialogue anyway, but may as well record voices for all the other characters.

Re: Capcom Not Ruling Out Wii Street Fighter IV

madgear

It will happen like it happened for Megadrive owners back when Street Fighter 2 was released. Everyone thought there was no way Megadrive owners would ever see it on their machine - it couldn't handle it for a start they said.

So I'm hoping for Street Fighter 4 Special Champion Edition (complete with car smashing bonus stage).
