Re: Talking Point: Would You Want Quality And Performance Options For Nintendo's 'Switch 2' Games?

jmace86

I would prefer not to have the option.
I would much rather developers make the game the best they can, with the best performance and the best graphical quality they can get without the performance dropping off.

I hate being given the option because it just leaves me feeling I am missing out. If I play in performance mode I know that the game could look better but if I play in quality mode I know that the game could run better and more smoothly, so it is the worst of both worlds!
Far better in my opinion to not have the option and let the devs do the best they can with the hardware.

Re: Poll: So, Do You Prefer Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Or Tears Of The Kingdom?

I genuinely was not a big fan of either, but I found BotW at least pretty enjoyable, whereas I absolutely hated TotK to the extent that I persisted with it for a few hours, but the had to stop as I was just not having any fun at all.
Perhaps I am just the wrong sort of person for that sort of game, but I really hated the overly open nature of it all, with dozens of different ways to accomplish every task. I like it when there is one (or a small number) of solutions to a problem, a specific item I need to use or a certain skill I need to do in order to get last an obstacle rather than just a load of possibilities, none of which feels like the "right way" to do it.

I am sure for someone who loves getting a big box of random Lego pieces and putting them together into some random design, the game is an absolute treat, but for someone like me, who enjoys following the instructions to make a specific Lego model, the game is borderline unplayable as it just feels like everything I do is wrong!

Also, I really do despise limited use weapons, especially when they have such low durability!

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Busier Hyrule Is Making Me Miss BOTW

jmace86

Personally, I am really not enjoying TotK.
I liked BotW, but it was by no means my favourite in the series, but TotK pretty much takes everything I did not like about BotW and either leaves them the same or amplifies them.
The weapon durability I absolutely hate and always have.
The horse-riding I really hate too. Just feels like I have very little control over the horse and calling it to you is annoying compared to just calling it from anywhere (like in Ocarina by using Epona's song).
Fusing weapons is annoying, because you cannot unfuse weapons and refuse them to new things and the aforementioned durability makes it extra frustrating when you fuse yourself a good weapon, only to have it break shortly after!
I hate all the building stuff. I loved the Zelda series and I have no interest in playing Minecraft, so I really am not a fan of all the sticking bits together mechanics.
The combat feels really off to me for some reason as well. Indo not know if it is because I have become a bit more used to more "Souls-like" combat in the past few years ( it played BotW since it first released), but the combat in TotK feels really clunky and dull to me.

Yeah, generally just really struggling to get into the game and I do not find myself at all compelled to carry on playing, whereas even BotW, despite not loving it as much as some others, I still always wanted to get back to playing whenever I was not playing it!

Maybe Zelda has just evolved into a series I do not love (or even really like) anymore like I used to... Sad for me, but if more people are enjoying it then I supposed it is good for them (and Nintendo).

Re: This Freshly Translated Interview Sheds New Light on the Development of Super Mario Land 2

I actually struggled quite a bit with this game when I was a kid (I was 5 or 6 when the game came out) and I gave up playing it until a few years later when I finally completed it , so I would never have thought of it as being "Too easy."

It is a really great game in my opinion, definitely up there with some of the best 2D Mario games, and it introduced Wario, who then went on to star in another great series of platformers!

Actually...
Hey Nintendo, bring back the Wario Land series!!

Re: Nintendo's Official Website eShop Purchases Are Up and Running

jmace86

Wow! The UK version really is pretty crap compared with the US one.

On a positive note, I like that you receive the number of gold reward points based on a title's original price, not its discounted price (e.g. I bought Star Fox 64 yesterday for £1.50, or something like that, as I already had the game on the Wii and I still received the 10 gold points for it!).

Re: Humble Bundle Issues Official Statement About Region-Locked Nintendo Promotion

jmace86

I certainly hope that more eShop bundles come in future and I hope that this current bundle and any future ones are distributed globally.
I do understand that there are different licensing deals in place in the various territories, but it seems like it should not be an insurmountable challenge to have the bundles be as widely available as possible. Surely the clear demand for this bundle in regions outside of America is proof enough that people want it so it is clearly worthwhile making the effort!

Re: A Totally Complete Version Of Star Fox 2 Really Does Exist

jmace86

I think releasing Star Fox 2 on the Wii U virtual console would be the perfect lead-in to Star Fox Wii U's release.
Release Star Fox 2, then release Star Fox U a month or so later; maybe even have a whol month of Star Fox releases and discounts, starting with Star Fox 2 and culminating in Star Fox U.

Re: Natsume Suggests That Nintendo's Moving Away From SNES on Wii U Virtual Console

jmace86

I do not mind if Nintendo does not bring any new SNES games to the Wii U VC, but I do hope that they at least continue to re-release SNES games that are available on the Wii VC for the Wii U VC. There is still a large number of SNES games that I can play by going into Wii mode on the Wii U, but I would much rather pay the £1.50 to instead play them on the Wii U.
