Re: Round Up: The Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Reviews Are In

@michellelynn0976 Yoshi had such a poor resolution it was painful to play in handheld. It was a 6/10 compared to the 9/10 Wii U Yoshi game. Yarn Yoshi was a very challenging, excellent platformer, as is traditional for Yoshi games. This one was Kirby dressed as Yoshi.
Kirby was painfully easy and short. Ridiculous that it cost £40 and never went beyond World 2 level difficulty, even when restricting yourself to playing with only Kirby. Can't imagine playing it through with all the CPU helpers! I normally LOVE Kirby games but Star Allies was only better than that Mirror GBA one. Compared to Fun Pak, Canvas Curse, Yarn Kirby it was painful. Even Squeak Squad was better than Star Allies. 6.8/10
What score would you give each game?

Edit: Star Allies was also better than the Clay Wii U Kirby. I didn't like that one at all.

Guessing world 8, as world 7 seems the traditional style that world 8 usually is.
I completed Bowser's Fury last night with 51 stars so was very pleased to see there is 100 to collect (although most of the larger challenges are already done I think.)

Unless 3D World has more content after world 8, i'd give the package an 8.8/10 - excellent, but short. A lot shorter than Odyssey.

If you are not excellent at Mario then it would be a 10/10 - for me I got the 3 stars and the stamp on the first run through on 85%+ of levels so far. Would rather have to go back and play every level two or three times rather than one per world.

@KateGray Paper Mario really didn't do it for me either. Bosses were awful and the normal battles pointless as they weren't even fun. Same as you I've been addicted to Hades for weeks. At 62 or 63 completions now and only unlocked 2 of the helpers less than 5 completions ago and still have not got the 6th! Want to get all of them at least before I say I am finished. Also have only unlocked one fourth aspect!

@DanteSolablood That's not true - you had Nokia n60 etc before nGage with NES and GB emulation along with JAVA titles (which is the same as nGage.)

Mobile gaming had developed past 2D and into early 3D such as Carmageddon Mobile before nGage!

Only played half hour originally but am 3rd currently on Switch and absolutely loving it. Fantastic game, just brilliant. Looking forward to playing the second for the first time once i've completed this title.

Strongly disagree the driving sections are boring - you are meant to use the B handbrake turn (which refills boost) to be boosting 100% of the time you are driving. It is then incredibly fast and fun.

Highly recommend to anyone on the fence - my favourite game this year.

@Moroboshi876 The game is not full price - it launched with a low price and currently has a small sale to make it around £16, cheaper than most indies now. Well worth it!

Loved being the stoner Womble in the original DS title. Am interested in this if it is nice and cheap, will probably grab it once it is under £5 in an eshop sale.

Scribblenauts takes self discipline to be really fun - you have to mandate to yourself that you cannot reuse words. Becomes really challenging and fantastic when you have to actually really think hard of new objects and items.

@RainbowGazelle He's been making games worse since the Wii generation. Every new IP that has been good has had nothing to do with him. Every 'Wii Music' piece of absolute garbage was Miyamoto. Every loved IP ruined through idiocy like removing XP and story from an RPG of all things (!!!!) has been him. I LOVE Miyamoto for his legacy but it is time to retire.

Re: Talking Point: Have You Missed E3 This Year?

I see the argument that focusing news and gamers upon the next game to be released may boost sales in the short term when people think 'I might as well buy this as there's nothing else coming soon", in the long term it will damage console sales as gamers don't buy as they worry there is nothing for them.

Re: Review: 1993 Shenandoah - One For Hardcore Amiga Fans Only

It's amazing, I never realised so many people lie so casually until this comment thread with several people claiming to own this unreleased game on the Amiga and several others sharing what they thought back in the 90s when they tried this unreleased game. Very strange.

Re: Review: Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus - A Rare Gem In The 40K Video Games Catalogue

Wish there was a turn based 40k videogame with all races and units etc. where you build an army to a certain points limit before battles, unlocking new units for your choices as you go along etc. Story for each race. Also free battles and online mode. Gameplay is just a videogame version of the tabletop game. I know it would be RNG reliant but this is the 40k title i've always wanted. No idea why they don't just make this, it would sell gangbusters as all ex 40k players would buy.

Pass the handheld & single screen TV multiplayer would be great too.

Anyone know why this has never come out?

Re: Mini Review: Rez Plz - Not Quite A Game To Die For

aros2k

@NintendoLife can we see a @squidlit review please? Taking into account the price paid of 99p I would give the game a 9/10.

I think full RRP is £1.99 and at that price it's an 8/10.

Really fun game, only downside is the length. A sequel is coming soon so would be a good time to send the game some new fans. It's such a hidden gem.

Dogurai is brilliant too, difficult but also an 8/10 and well deserving of a review!

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says It's No Longer Possible To Modify Mario Characters

aros2k

@DDFawfulGuy Agreed. They should have fought this rule ferociously, stating that "we have tried it your way and the games bombed. The reaction was TERRIBLE. When we did it the creative way the games were all time classics."
I would refuse to work if I knew we had our wings clipped to only be able to design a poorly received game. It would damage the future of the studio even if that wasn't the intention from the start.
Look at Alphadream designing M&L games that bombed after they took away creativity, the studio got shuttered!

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says It's No Longer Possible To Modify Mario Characters

aros2k

Absolutely pathetic. Cannot believe such a short sighted rule when the previous Paper and M&L games were incredible. Look at the remake that ruined Superstar Saga by changing all the new characters into generic ones. It was pathetic then and it's pathetic now.
Plus - An RPG/Adventure is "fine without a story" !!!??????

Is it best at this point that Miyamoto retires or takes a less active role within Nintendo? When was the last time his input didn't damage a series? Think of the garbage he used to design & promote on Wii!!

I love Miyamoto but the fact he has ruined Paper & M&L shows he is passed it now.

I hope Tanabe and team made a folder of feedback regarding the early games' character designs and story feedback to show how beloved they were. Even children find a million toads BORING AF.
