Italian developer 3DClouds has today announced its latest and "most ambitious" project, King of Seas.
The game is an action RPG set in the golden age of pirates, throwing players into ferocious sea battles as they search for lost islands and hidden treasure. It's all set in a procedurally generated world - we know, we know - but this dynamic environment will apparently react to your every action, forcing you to rethink strategies and more.
For example, naval routes might change meaning you'll need to look for new ways to conquer settlements, or you might come up against adverse weather conditions which force you to take more dangerous routes when heading to islands to trade goods or upgrade your ships. It also has a story to follow, with the player heading out on a journey to avenge the death of their father.

3DClouds founder and CEO, Francesco Bruschi, has shared the following in a press release:
"We are thrilled that after a year of hard work, we are finally ready to unveil King of Seas, our most ambitious project to date. We have poured all our creative talent into creating this stunning pirate world and can’t wait to share more with you in the coming weeks."
The game's currently planned to release this autumn on Switch and other major platforms. We'll keep an eye out for more news on this one up until then, but feel free to let us know your early thoughts in the comments below.

Please, be good, or great, ...greats fine to.
I’ve been looking for another great pirate game ever since Black Flag.
I love sea-themed games. Can’t wait to try it out! Reminds me of wind waker . 🤔
Looks interesting, excited to see more!
Basically Sid Meier's Pirates for this generation. Not a bad thing perse.
This is the same team that made Xenon Racer and Race with Ryan, so temper your expectations a little. It might turn out great, but the team has a poor track record for quality, especially on Switch. and has never done a game like this before (all their previous stuff have been racers).
Let's be honest.... sea of Thieves would be perfect on Switch!
The concept and visuals look really intriguing. I hope they include the ability to design your own pirate captain + creature companion. Long John Silver just wouldn’t be the same without Captain Flint squawking on his shoulder. Or Barbossa and his monkey.
Reminds me of Rare's Sea of Thieves.
Wasn't a pirate game one of the games Inafune announced but didn't get Kickstarted or something like that?
I'm feeling like it had this name or something similar.
Thought it said Sea of Thieves
procedurally generated world....
Wowzers, looks great.
Hopefully you aren’t just stuck on the ship and can go on the islands.
So the same guys who did that mediocre racer Xenon Racer? I hope this time they make a decent game.
@Johnno137426 seeing these words makes it an instant no-buy for me
@AcclaimDev A switch port of it would be great!
@ermzzz oh no. Xeno Racer is unplayable on Switch
Arrr she blows!
@CTmatic Great is fine to what?
It's just going to be a 3D version of one of the crappy 2D pixel art pirate games that we have several of on Switch.
@Nintendolife - when are you reviewing Squidlit?
@Ninjatiptoes He means the game being great will be just fine. He will be happy with that result.
If it's anything like the old Horizon: Uncharted Waters game, great! Haven't seen something like that in years
@AcclaimDev that's exactly what I want!
I guess they couldn't bring themselves to name it "Sea King" lest The Pokemon Company's lawyers came knocking.
@aros2k Oh I see. That extra O at the end of his To would have cleared that up. It's "too", not "to".
Not sure why you are giving me a grammar lesson? Lol.
I've learned that any game featuring pirates from the last 10 years or so has disappointed me, so I'm not getting my hopes up. But it looks... alright?
pirates? yes!
procedurally generated? no!
Watching the the video made me want to dig up the Wii U and play wind waker. When is Nintendo going to port it to the switch? I'd gladly buy it on a third console
Procedurally generated worlds are a lazy way to create a crappy large game, so I'd take a small but well crafted world over procedurally generated crap. I blame modern and developers comparing the size of their world as if it was their own genitals (insert comment about the need to compensate). Because of this, smaller studios resort to procedural generation (and f-ing kickstarter but that's another story)
If this has combat smiliar to Tempest, I'll bite.
Useless trailers without actual gameplay should be banned...
Nothing in the video or the article sounds RPG to me.
Looks more like an action ship combat game and nothing else or even original.
@tgchan
I agree! I like that you pointed this out and we should on every one of these misleading trailers.
Reading the title I thought they were bringing back that pirate game for 3DS that was cancelled with the animals.
Looks well polished, I plan to follow closely.
WILL IT BE LIKE SEA OF THIVES
Yep but never gonna happen. Unfortunately...@sixrings
Doesn’t look like it at all. I’m afraid it’ll be naval combat only or they woulda shown on foot combat. @Ninfan
But that developer tho... this game is already dead.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I love randomly generated content. Although I guess for a long time I preferred tight narratives which is never easy in randomly generated games. Announcement doesn't give us much, but I've been looking for a game with good "tall ship" combat.
Regardless of the quality of the game, they absolutely chose that name because it sounds kind of similar to Sea of Thieves, right?
Have been itching for some kind of pirate game. I have been following updates on skull & bones for xbox which keeps getting pushed back. Might never be released. This game looks exciteing i'll keep an eye on.
All these ship battle games gives me a hankering for a proper follow-up to Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon on PC. It was so unique, a traditional ship RTS set in a space fantasy. I loved upgrading different ships, managing cannons, attack/escape routes, thrusters, etc.
Maybe no one else knows about this game... Now I've talked myself into being interested in King of Seas.
@gortsi Same.
Reminds me of Sid Meier's Pirates (PSP). I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
@ZeldaFanboy78 I wasn't the poster who confused to and too. I just answered a guy's question. So I didn't need the explanation. Lol.
I'd rather see a proper remake of Sid Meier's Pirates.
