@StevenG It's a hard asking price though. There might not be enough people interested for 600 bucks. For what it is, it makes sense for them to shoot for a price undercutting next gen consoles and coming out in the summer. I mean, I'd want to give myself an advantage instead trying to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft. Though if it is the summer, they'd have to announce it literally in a couple weeks
@Retron Exactly. That PS4 pro and one X can run games at 4k, but there is never a reason to do so because it's always much better to just play at the 1080 60 options. 4k doesn't really improve the experience over 1080p the way I feel 1080 improves 720. Details are properly viewable at 1080p, at 4k youve got some imperceptible edges smoother
@LUIGITORNADO To be fair, I don't really see the point of 4k even though I own 4k tvs and a 4k monitor. However, if you have something capable of 4k, that means games will run much smoother at 1080p. That's a huge improvement. It's not a game breaker that switch games are a bit blurry and have draw distances of about 8 feet, but it would be great if that wasn't the case.
@GameOtaku I totally expected byleth because three houses sold an ass of copies and was a pretty big hit for them. I expected it as one of the next wave of dlc, though. Mostly because it only came out in July. Same goes with a gen 8 Pokemon. My bet is on the bear thing from the dlc. It's weird there isn't a stance change character yet and that would do it. Byleth does kinda line up with the dlc, a little. Not really, but it totally always made sense for them to come out before the dlc was done as a promotion. That's like 60% of the point of smash from a business standpoint. Same reason Sora won't be in unless there is a game coming out in the near future for the switch. It could be a spin-off, but it has to be something
@GameOtaku again, I think for me I care more about the mechanics than the characters. It doesn't really matter to me that it's byleth, just what the character can do. I mean, personally, the directional weapons thing makes more sense for monster Hunter, but there's Siix more characters. Whatever.
The main issue with the character is that they don't look, you know, that good. They have a tether only recovery and all of their moves look extremely situational and easy as hell to wiff. The good thing is that byleth isn't another sword user. Hell, she uses her sword about as much as Ganon uses his. The problem is that gives her a very steep learning curve off the back because all of her weapons have significant disadvantages in terms of hotbox, speed, and commitment. Shell either suck or be about where Terry is in terms of a high skill ceiling. Plus, new character means new patch. Great. Anyway, she's about as much like Marth as Robin or Corrin is so I don't think it matters if they're from FE or not. I hope they add more non-human characters next wave, but really, doesn't matter at all
@AstralSoul13 wait, Roy and Marth got split into some different moves and a completely different playstyle in 4. They are similar though, but You can't play them the same so I don't know if that really counts. They are only similar on the surface. Again, the clones don't count. That's like saying Daisy and peach are similar. Of course they are, they're the same character. I mean luci and chrom have more differences than the usual clone, but they're clones. They can share the same character portrait, they don't count. Basically you're arguing against the echoes who aren't their own characters to begin with
@Haywired I guess sakurai just likes it then. O dunno, I'm a fan of the series but with smash I tend to like the mechanics mroe than where the characters come from. I do wish that the directional weapons thing was used for monster Hunter instead though. I guess it still could be. At least one is eventually going to get a full stance change mechanic. Maybe Dante or the MH
@AstralSoul13 they really don't play similarly at all. Maybe you can make an argument for Marth and Ike and obviously the clones. The rest just don't. Roy's designed around rushing and theres literally no argument whatsoever that Corrin and Robin are similar to Marth and Roy. Robin uses magic and owns a sword and Corrin is a dragon who has a sword like object. I just don't get the hate here. Same with Byleth, yeah she's from Fe, but three moves use the sword. The rest she's basically a combo of Ganon, the balmont, Corrin, and joker. It's just a fallacious thing to say they are similar when the only thing that's similar is their designs, not mechanics.
@Zeldawakening I don't get this sword thing. They aren't clones. None of the play the same. Hell, byleth doesn't even use the sword except for I think TWO moves. They are sword users as much as Ganon is
@Ashunera84 that's my thought. It kinda feels like byleth was pushed up. Literally the whole pass has been third parties. I'm thinking there was either a delay or they didn't want to start a pack with Byleth since that sets the tone of the whole thing.
@Jeremazing I thought they looked not great, bit that's because theu have too many situational options and a tether only recovery. They kinda look like a melee version of the Belmonts. I mean, somebody will be good with them unless they sick, but they look like a very precise character
@GameOtaku what about link? There's three links, but they all are considered different characters because they all have different models and mechanics. X would be more like toon or young link than chrom
@MrDisappointed I kinda expected byleth in the next pack. What I feel happened is they had a weird third party character in the oven, but it wasn't done so they went with Byleth. Or they didn't want to open their next pack with Byleth and instead wanted to show something really weird to set the tone.
@drewber2635 They all play differently execpt for the clones. That's why I don't get the hate. Ike, Corrin, Robin, Marth, Roy, they all after completely different styles. That's why i don't get the hate at all. Corrin isn't good in the game, but it's really hard to say she's even a sword user and Robin is a gimmick character of anything. The most you can say is that the series gets two echos where most get zero
@AstralSoul13 yeah, now there's as many as Pokemon. The thing is, it's an extremely popular series, more than big enough to justify the same roster size as Pokemon. As long as it doesn't pass Mario, I think it's fine
@Tharsman dude, Megaman x should not be an echo fighter. Have you played those games? He'd have to be a totally different character. Hell just being a couple feet taller would be a reason
Eh, byleth only has a tether recovery and mostly situational moves? Hope they nerf joker. Honestly, all the dlc characters have been a sort of mash up of mechanics they already had, by byleth seems like she's be, you know, not great. She's got a lot of really obvious weaknesses, so I dunno
@xpownz It's definitely a different era of videogames and expectations. Bayo in bayo 2 is a slightly different than the first one, but Dante is absolutely a different character is every game, it's kinda weird. The 5th game is about him completely giving room for his nephew. Dad Kratos leans into a more mature and less gratuitous masculinity thing than how 1-3 Kratos and literally the entire fourth game is him rationalizing how crappy he used to be. It's kinda an unfair comparison. Videogame story telling has changed a lot in 20 years.
@kemosabii I'm hoping for some echos. I mean, it would kinda make sense that they might have had some extra time at some point to throw one (or three) in. I actually like alt skins. I wish there were more
@PikaPhantom It's not like most of the sword fighters play the same, but I feel the idea. There's actually why I don't really want Dante. If he had the style change and airdash that could be crazy, but in the end hed be just kinda cloud with bayos and joker's gun. I'd want monster Hunter
@kurtasbestos Man, that's a bit of an overstatement. It's Mario, Pokemon, and fire emblem and loz that's like a 35 of the 80 character roster. It also depends how you count Mario characters. The game doesn't count wario, Yoshi, or dk, but that's dumb. Mario has the most rep with 10 (15 if you count all the actual Mario characters). Pokemon has like 8 and Fe has 7 and Loz has 6. Everyone else is between 1 and 3. Which is fine. I mean, the four franchises with the most characters are the four most well selling franchises. Makes sense to me, but that Fe is over represented is straight not correct.
@DAHstroy He actually leaked that his character wasn't the next dlc. It was the guy who voiced V, who wouldn't be the dmc character used because part of the idea behind including these things is having them from games people can buy. DmC 5 probably don't going to ever be on the switch unless there's a slight hardware upgrade. He did sort of dropaybe that Dante would be the dlc though. It's ambiguous so it could be a mistake or anything else.
@xpownz Dunno why the dmc hate? Honestly, only 3 and 5 are actually good games (the argument can be made for 4 se on PC), but dmc is basically one of the few holdovers from the PS2 era character action games. Platinum still does them, kinda, but it's been awhile since they did something like MGS revengeance. I mean, if you don't like the genre, dope, but it's basically dmc or bust if you do.
@PikaPhantom Dante and monster Hunter seem to be the best Capcom reps from a moveset perspective. There's just so much they can pull from and exclude that they have a lot of freedom while sticking to the character. I'd rather them not use too many of Dante's weapons if they do use him, though. It's makes more sense to uses his styles more. Though I guess he could pull out things for smashes
@Dman10 You know, they break down the character during these things? And it's not like samurai showing a character prevents them from doing a direct. It's just him in his office and then the translators doing their thing. It doesn't get on the way of anything at all
@personauser93 those are the two biggest sellers. I mean, they have animal crossing coming out soon, Metroid, Bayonetta, if there is a switch pro or 2 coming out then Botw 2 will be shown during that for sure, I mean there's a huge list of things that are coming. But, Pokemon and smash are their evergreen, update it every month games right now. Once AC is out, that would be added to the list. Nintendo actually doesn't support that many online games very actively. It's usually literally 2 at a time.
@CelestialSlayer what? smash? It's a fairly well made fighting game that isn't like any other fighting game. Ultimate struck a weird balance of being really easy to pick up, but also having a high enough skill ceiling. The characters are also in general pretty well balanced for a fighting game. It's not really a beat em up even a little bit.
Watch it he Dante, but it's the Dante from viewtiful Joe. Let's be real, that would be absolutely amazing. I also wish we got more echos. Some people don't like clones, but I feel like they had a good marketing idea for them and never really expanded on it. If it is Dante, I hope they at least include the models from the first three games. I actually like dlc 2 Dante's model the best.
@GAMER1984dude This argument makes less sense with this game given literally almost no one played. It's honestly a little bit of a weird one to port. It didn't flop, really, but even for the Wii u it didn't do great. It's new to basically everyone. I mean, I'm obsessed with games and I never heard of it until the direct
@Expa0 They aren't true musou games. Think about them as dq games with real time battles and they are better. It's still underwelming, but 2 has some good bits
@NEStalgia Well, developers still have to build the games with consoles in mind if they are releasing on consoles, but you're right. The thing is, hardware doesn't just limit how good something looks, it limits how big or how deep something can be. Raytracing on a 500 buck box is cool, but the ram, cpu, and storage upgrades mean that games can get beefed up a good bit. I mean, it's still expensive as hell to develop stuff like that, but at least the hardware isn't a limitation. That's the problem with the switch: the kinds of games that can be developed for it is limited. I don't just mean ports, I mean if someone at Nintendo has an idea it has to be scaled towards the switches hardware. I means so does everything, but the switch is setting behind phones so at certain point I think people will drift to where the more modern games are
Honestly, it might make sense for Microsoft to put out a switch like device that works with xcloud. That's really all it would take to at least steal some gamers away.
@NEStalgia nah, the leap to 4k is pretty big, but the reason theres a push for faster hard drives is that the faster loading times really, really are significant for creating bigger and deeper games. Sam with the ram upgrades. So, yeah, graphical, things just look clean and lighting and shadows look more realistic, but the games also are allowed a level of depth that was impossible before. That, if anything, will kill the switch. The switch is really limited in how much can go on at once.
@BorderlineJon Well, the other ones are 8 years old compared to 2.5. That's what does it for me. I have a PC and a non-pro PS4 and j genuinely don't like playing on my PS4 unless there's a game I really want to play. It's not the graphics, games just don't run that well. The hardware is ancient.
@Euler Now, a wii u game and a switch game? Sure, but look at Xenoblade for an example of the difference between the switch and the Wii. The thing is, the switch is more powerful than the Wii u, it's just that difference doesn't amount to much.
I mean, as a casual player, the games still look really good. I mean, it's a slight improvement over sun and moon, but I haven't played a game since x and y, sooooo it's good to me.
@somebread Well, you couldn't catch em all in one game since gen 3, you know, when they ditched that tagline. I mean, you could catch all of one regions pokemon, wait a year, and transfer, but you couldn't catch em all in almost 20 years.
@Ulysses Now, number 4, gigantamax is arguably an iteration over megas and z-moves. I mean, it's a form change, a stat boost, and an ability (which is much better than an unstoppable move that wipes whoever it's hit by). If anything it has the exact same function except it's limited to one per battle and more importantly, 3 turns. And for SP it can only be used in story battles and raids, the end. It's from where I'm sitting much better and does the same thing. I don't see the problem.
Also, did they rebuild all the models? They, assumably 8k models from the sun and moon games, because why wouldn't they? Even without that, they had let's go. Like, I saw a side by side machoke comparison. It's pretty obviously they just threw some shaders over everything. Which shouldnt be discounted as laziness, that's textures and light and reflections, but still, not new models is it?
@CarterDucote I mean, it's a hard game to play back to back. I'm using one save and I'm on chapter 5 of my second route at 80 hours in. You kinda need a few months break to stay sane
@Fighter_Hayabusa eh, it at least means that you don't have to if the mints and boosters are at the ultra end game then it might be faster to just do things the old fashioned way, but the point is now we've got another option
@RupeeClock Ha, no. Only of you caught them in Go and Let's go and wait until early 2020 so you can transfer them.
Seriously, I don't get why people care about the cut really. There's a Pokemon game every year. Just get the next one. Who cares if you don't get, hypothetically, medicham? It's just a picture and some numbers, there are more medichams in the sea. Move on.
I member Terry. But let's be real, he looks frankly amazing as a character. Like, why make him completely overshadow ryuken in every possible way? I mean, looks like he has the same weaknesses and he's definitely a more defensive dude, but he looks awesome

Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Takes To The Stage With English Sub Overview Trailer
@Quarth It's a fire emblem and smt cross over about idols. It's arguably the most japanese
Re: Rumour: A Western Release Of Dragon Quest Heroes I & II Is Looking Even More Likely
@Expa0 They aren't true musou games. Think about them as dq games with real time battles and they are better. It's still underwelming, but 2 has some good bits
Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts
Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts
Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts
Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts
@Euler Now, a wii u game and a switch game? Sure, but look at Xenoblade for an example of the difference between the switch and the Wii. The thing is, the switch is more powerful than the Wii u, it's just that difference doesn't amount to much.
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Japanese Launch Event Has Been Canned
@Zyph I agree. I mean pokemon are at best stickers. Realistically, people are getting mad over drawings and numbers. It's nuts
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Japanese Launch Event Has Been Canned
I mean, as a casual player, the games still look really good. I mean, it's a slight improvement over sun and moon, but I haven't played a game since x and y, sooooo it's good to me.
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Japanese Launch Event Has Been Canned
@somebread Well, you couldn't catch em all in one game since gen 3, you know, when they ditched that tagline. I mean, you could catch all of one regions pokemon, wait a year, and transfer, but you couldn't catch em all in almost 20 years.
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Japanese Launch Event Has Been Canned
Re: The Third Wave Of DLC For Fire Emblem: Three Houses Is Now Available
@CarterDucote I mean, it's a hard game to play back to back. I'm using one save and I'm on chapter 5 of my second route at 80 hours in. You kinda need a few months break to stay sane
Re: Here Are The Full Patch Notes For Fire Emblem: Three Houses Version 1.1.0
@Desrever Probably jeritza right?
Re: Guide: Pokémon Sword And Shield: Gen 8 Pokémon List - Full Galar Pokédex, Plus Pokémon That Didn't Make The Cut
@misterflipnote mostly type null. Who'd have thought he'd be back. It doesn't even make sense
Re: New Game-Changing Features Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield
@Fighter_Hayabusa eh, it at least means that you don't have to if the mints and boosters are at the ultra end game then it might be faster to just do things the old fashioned way, but the point is now we've got another option
Re: New Game-Changing Features Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield
@RupeeClock Ha, no. Only of you caught them in Go and Let's go and wait until early 2020 so you can transfer them.
Seriously, I don't get why people care about the cut really. There's a Pokemon game every year. Just get the next one. Who cares if you don't get, hypothetically, medicham? It's just a picture and some numbers, there are more medichams in the sea. Move on.
Re: New Game-Changing Features Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield
@ShadJV you don't have to breed. Just putting them next to another Pokemon of the same species allows them to transfer over their moves
Re: Sakurai Discusses Young Generations Not Knowing SNK, Says The Character Being Fun Is More Important
I member Terry. But let's be real, he looks frankly amazing as a character. Like, why make him completely overshadow ryuken in every possible way? I mean, looks like he has the same weaknesses and he's definitely a more defensive dude, but he looks awesome
