Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

Xansies

@StevenG It's a hard asking price though. There might not be enough people interested for 600 bucks. For what it is, it makes sense for them to shoot for a price undercutting next gen consoles and coming out in the summer. I mean, I'd want to give myself an advantage instead trying to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft. Though if it is the summer, they'd have to announce it literally in a couple weeks

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

Xansies

@Retron Exactly. That PS4 pro and one X can run games at 4k, but there is never a reason to do so because it's always much better to just play at the 1080 60 options. 4k doesn't really improve the experience over 1080p the way I feel 1080 improves 720. Details are properly viewable at 1080p, at 4k youve got some imperceptible edges smoother

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

Xansies

@LUIGITORNADO To be fair, I don't really see the point of 4k even though I own 4k tvs and a 4k monitor. However, if you have something capable of 4k, that means games will run much smoother at 1080p. That's a huge improvement. It's not a game breaker that switch games are a bit blurry and have draw distances of about 8 feet, but it would be great if that wasn't the case.

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Xansies

@GameOtaku I totally expected byleth because three houses sold an ass of copies and was a pretty big hit for them. I expected it as one of the next wave of dlc, though. Mostly because it only came out in July. Same goes with a gen 8 Pokemon. My bet is on the bear thing from the dlc. It's weird there isn't a stance change character yet and that would do it. Byleth does kinda line up with the dlc, a little. Not really, but it totally always made sense for them to come out before the dlc was done as a promotion. That's like 60% of the point of smash from a business standpoint. Same reason Sora won't be in unless there is a game coming out in the near future for the switch. It could be a spin-off, but it has to be something

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Xansies

@GameOtaku again, I think for me I care more about the mechanics than the characters. It doesn't really matter to me that it's byleth, just what the character can do. I mean, personally, the directional weapons thing makes more sense for monster Hunter, but there's Siix more characters. Whatever.

The main issue with the character is that they don't look, you know, that good. They have a tether only recovery and all of their moves look extremely situational and easy as hell to wiff. The good thing is that byleth isn't another sword user. Hell, she uses her sword about as much as Ganon uses his. The problem is that gives her a very steep learning curve off the back because all of her weapons have significant disadvantages in terms of hotbox, speed, and commitment. Shell either suck or be about where Terry is in terms of a high skill ceiling. Plus, new character means new patch. Great. Anyway, she's about as much like Marth as Robin or Corrin is so I don't think it matters if they're from FE or not. I hope they add more non-human characters next wave, but really, doesn't matter at all

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Xansies

@AstralSoul13 wait, Roy and Marth got split into some different moves and a completely different playstyle in 4. They are similar though, but You can't play them the same so I don't know if that really counts. They are only similar on the surface. Again, the clones don't count. That's like saying Daisy and peach are similar. Of course they are, they're the same character. I mean luci and chrom have more differences than the usual clone, but they're clones. They can share the same character portrait, they don't count. Basically you're arguing against the echoes who aren't their own characters to begin with

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Xansies

@Haywired I guess sakurai just likes it then. O dunno, I'm a fan of the series but with smash I tend to like the mechanics mroe than where the characters come from. I do wish that the directional weapons thing was used for monster Hunter instead though. I guess it still could be. At least one is eventually going to get a full stance change mechanic. Maybe Dante or the MH

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Xansies

@AstralSoul13 they really don't play similarly at all. Maybe you can make an argument for Marth and Ike and obviously the clones. The rest just don't. Roy's designed around rushing and theres literally no argument whatsoever that Corrin and Robin are similar to Marth and Roy. Robin uses magic and owns a sword and Corrin is a dragon who has a sword like object. I just don't get the hate here. Same with Byleth, yeah she's from Fe, but three moves use the sword. The rest she's basically a combo of Ganon, the balmont, Corrin, and joker. It's just a fallacious thing to say they are similar when the only thing that's similar is their designs, not mechanics.

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Xansies

@drewber2635 They all play differently execpt for the clones. That's why I don't get the hate. Ike, Corrin, Robin, Marth, Roy, they all after completely different styles. That's why i don't get the hate at all. Corrin isn't good in the game, but it's really hard to say she's even a sword user and Robin is a gimmick character of anything. The most you can say is that the series gets two echos where most get zero

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Character Will Be Revealed On 16th January In Livestream

Xansies

@xpownz It's definitely a different era of videogames and expectations. Bayo in bayo 2 is a slightly different than the first one, but Dante is absolutely a different character is every game, it's kinda weird. The 5th game is about him completely giving room for his nephew. Dad Kratos leans into a more mature and less gratuitous masculinity thing than how 1-3 Kratos and literally the entire fourth game is him rationalizing how crappy he used to be. It's kinda an unfair comparison. Videogame story telling has changed a lot in 20 years.

Re: Random: Sakurai's Three Finger Hand Gesture Has Sent The Internet Absolutely Bonkers

Xansies

@kurtasbestos Man, that's a bit of an overstatement. It's Mario, Pokemon, and fire emblem and loz that's like a 35 of the 80 character roster. It also depends how you count Mario characters. The game doesn't count wario, Yoshi, or dk, but that's dumb. Mario has the most rep with 10 (15 if you count all the actual Mario characters). Pokemon has like 8 and Fe has 7 and Loz has 6. Everyone else is between 1 and 3. Which is fine. I mean, the four franchises with the most characters are the four most well selling franchises. Makes sense to me, but that Fe is over represented is straight not correct.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Character Will Be Revealed On 16th January In Livestream

Xansies

@DAHstroy He actually leaked that his character wasn't the next dlc. It was the guy who voiced V, who wouldn't be the dmc character used because part of the idea behind including these things is having them from games people can buy. DmC 5 probably don't going to ever be on the switch unless there's a slight hardware upgrade. He did sort of dropaybe that Dante would be the dlc though. It's ambiguous so it could be a mistake or anything else.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Character Will Be Revealed On 16th January In Livestream

Xansies

@xpownz Dunno why the dmc hate? Honestly, only 3 and 5 are actually good games (the argument can be made for 4 se on PC), but dmc is basically one of the few holdovers from the PS2 era character action games. Platinum still does them, kinda, but it's been awhile since they did something like MGS revengeance. I mean, if you don't like the genre, dope, but it's basically dmc or bust if you do.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Character Will Be Revealed On 16th January In Livestream

Xansies

@PikaPhantom Dante and monster Hunter seem to be the best Capcom reps from a moveset perspective. There's just so much they can pull from and exclude that they have a lot of freedom while sticking to the character. I'd rather them not use too many of Dante's weapons if they do use him, though. It's makes more sense to uses his styles more. Though I guess he could pull out things for smashes

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Character Will Be Revealed On 16th January In Livestream

Xansies

@personauser93 those are the two biggest sellers. I mean, they have animal crossing coming out soon, Metroid, Bayonetta, if there is a switch pro or 2 coming out then Botw 2 will be shown during that for sure, I mean there's a huge list of things that are coming. But, Pokemon and smash are their evergreen, update it every month games right now. Once AC is out, that would be added to the list. Nintendo actually doesn't support that many online games very actively. It's usually literally 2 at a time.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Character Will Be Revealed On 16th January In Livestream

Xansies

Watch it he Dante, but it's the Dante from viewtiful Joe. Let's be real, that would be absolutely amazing. I also wish we got more echos. Some people don't like clones, but I feel like they had a good marketing idea for them and never really expanded on it. If it is Dante, I hope they at least include the models from the first three games. I actually like dlc 2 Dante's model the best.

Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts

Xansies

@NEStalgia Well, developers still have to build the games with consoles in mind if they are releasing on consoles, but you're right. The thing is, hardware doesn't just limit how good something looks, it limits how big or how deep something can be. Raytracing on a 500 buck box is cool, but the ram, cpu, and storage upgrades mean that games can get beefed up a good bit. I mean, it's still expensive as hell to develop stuff like that, but at least the hardware isn't a limitation. That's the problem with the switch: the kinds of games that can be developed for it is limited. I don't just mean ports, I mean if someone at Nintendo has an idea it has to be scaled towards the switches hardware. I means so does everything, but the switch is setting behind phones so at certain point I think people will drift to where the more modern games are

Honestly, it might make sense for Microsoft to put out a switch like device that works with xcloud. That's really all it would take to at least steal some gamers away.

Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts

Xansies

@NEStalgia nah, the leap to 4k is pretty big, but the reason theres a push for faster hard drives is that the faster loading times really, really are significant for creating bigger and deeper games. Sam with the ram upgrades. So, yeah, graphical, things just look clean and lighting and shadows look more realistic, but the games also are allowed a level of depth that was impossible before. That, if anything, will kill the switch. The switch is really limited in how much can go on at once.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Japanese Launch Event Has Been Canned

Xansies

@Ulysses Now, number 4, gigantamax is arguably an iteration over megas and z-moves. I mean, it's a form change, a stat boost, and an ability (which is much better than an unstoppable move that wipes whoever it's hit by). If anything it has the exact same function except it's limited to one per battle and more importantly, 3 turns. And for SP it can only be used in story battles and raids, the end. It's from where I'm sitting much better and does the same thing. I don't see the problem.

Also, did they rebuild all the models? They, assumably 8k models from the sun and moon games, because why wouldn't they? Even without that, they had let's go. Like, I saw a side by side machoke comparison. It's pretty obviously they just threw some shaders over everything. Which shouldnt be discounted as laziness, that's textures and light and reflections, but still, not new models is it?

Re: New Game-Changing Features Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield

Xansies

@RupeeClock Ha, no. Only of you caught them in Go and Let's go and wait until early 2020 so you can transfer them.

Seriously, I don't get why people care about the cut really. There's a Pokemon game every year. Just get the next one. Who cares if you don't get, hypothetically, medicham? It's just a picture and some numbers, there are more medichams in the sea. Move on.
