The game was recently rated by the OFLC, so it should be coming to Europe/Australia as well. As it was never released in PAL regions before, we think it'll be a title in the next Hanabi Festival. The game has still not been confirmed for the US (It was ESRB rated ages ago, but the rating was since removed, leading us to believe this was a mistake).
If you're impatient, you can always get a Japanese Wii with some Japanese Wii Points and download it!
The other games released in Japan today are Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, Paranoia (Psychosis) and Ninja Commando, which means that this could legitimately be called one of the best VC weeks ever. On top of that, they also got the WiiWare games Blue Oasis (My Aquarium), Saikyou Ginsei Igo and Ouchi de Mugen Puchi Puchi Wii.

Hanabi #3=SMRPG, NG II & III, Rondo, Earthbound, Dig Dug, Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa & DoReMi me thinks.
...Im moving to Japan!
You'd still have to learn Japanese. But this is a big name game so I'd suspect that its going to be released in all regions soon. Hopefully.
Im hoping for a hanbi festival with decent games to download! The last hanbi festival was rubbish not one good title! Hopefully this will be a rpg hanbi festival! I want to see Super Mario rpg, Earthbound, Crono Trigger! And more brilliant rpg i have forgotten to name! (:
Are you saying that because it had TG and Sega games only? Over half of them were great.
I share Drakes opinion. Of yourse the first one was better and I hoped for some of my friends that SMB:LL returns, but HF2 was great after all!
@Demon: I agree with you, except for Rondo of blood, since the chance of it getting translated is rather low.
Lucky them i hope we get SMRPG within 2 months. Its one of those games i really want on the VC.
Rondo doesn't need a trans.
IMO this Hanabi was amazing, I only didn't buy 2 of them. Columns and Boxing.
"Hanabi #3=SMRPG, NG II & III, Rondo, Earthbound, Dig Dug, Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa & DoReMi me thinks."
You wish
And yeah, last Hanabi festival was great, I´ll buy some of the games if memory problem gets solved.
Hopefully we'll get it in the next couple weeks and not wait months.
Pretty awesome week. Sub-par children's RPG aside, they got Phantasy Star IV and the Igo WiiWare game! Hopefully PSIV comes out in North America soon.
Also, for all of the fans in Australia and France, here's hoping you guys don't have to wait all year for SMRPG.
They are veeeery lucky. Hope europe gets that also soon. I'm from Poland, but my console is set to Great Britain (hehehahahe....)
I hope they will re-release Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan Version) unlimited for Europe! That would be great But i also looking forward for Super Mario RPG
"I'm from Poland, but my console is set to Great Britain (hehehahahe....)"
(is confused)
@ Bensei: Why not just use the translation of Dracula X on the PSP?
Besides the fact that they got SMRPG, they got more than 3 games in a week. Not including the release week of WiiWare, we haven't gotten more than 3 games in a week in ages. So double lucky them.
Please come here SMRPG, we want you so...
@Keeper: I'm not so much into that series, so the only thing I knew was that everyone was whining about a game being released at a HF that had in my opinion the same chance as Fire Emblem or Goemon 2 being released here, now I know better.
Btw: If Fire Emblem DS isn't too different they could use that translation for the VC import as well
Dude, I want Phantasy Star 4 so bad. I'm sure it won't be too long since the close releases for 2 and 3 a few months back.
"The last hanbi festival was rubbish not one good title!"
Ok, tell me what was wrong with Puyo Puyo 2 - other than the fact that you would prefer to play it as Kirby's Avalanche or something.
Wow, a great week for Japan! SMRPG, PS4 (I really want that game! I've heard it's the best of the series), and Ninja Commando looks awesome ("C button does NINJA TRICKS" ), and they ALSO got 3 wiiware games?
Why can't US or Europe have a week like this?
I've never played this game and I've been comping at the bit since I was like ten. Hopefully NA (and of course EU and AU) will see this game hit VC very very soon.
@Chipmunk: Beats me. I'm just greatful that we are able to play elder games though - certainly beats computer emulation when it comes to the comfort of it all
Well they have the last for PS's now, I wonder if they'll ever release the first. I only played the beginning of it and I'd like to finish it! It actually pulls off those psuedo-3D maze dungeons better than any other game that featured them!
Didn't we get the awesome Gradius 2 in the last Hanabi festival?
Btw I was really looking forward to SMRPG but I hear its very short and easy. Think I'll get it anyway.
A short RPG? Sounds impossible... Well, I hope this is a good sign for the US; I've been wondering what I was missing with this Super Mario RPG. I know it's similar to Paper Mario, but could it beat that game (in my opinion at least)?
Mario RPG and Phantasy star 4 in the same week? What the hell Nintendo? Why are the U.S. Wii owners getting screwed so much with the VC releases? Japan gets such a great week of games yet we are lucky if we get one halfway decent game a month. I'm getting pretty sick of this.
Jacekc - hey, my family is from Poland
Anyway, I am really hoping we get this game soon, I haven't bought any VC games in a long time because I haven't been interested in any more.
Hanabi here we come! Super Mario RPG, EarthBound, Dig Dug, Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, DoReMi Fantasy, Custom Robo V2 should be on the next hanabi, hurry up Nintendo : (
Wow, amazing week for Japan. Let's hope the goods spread quickly...
Wow, nice games. Mainly looking at Mario RPG and Phantasy Star IV. I hope we get PSIV soon, but but if you cant stand the wait and you're a PS2/PSP owner, you can actually get it with Sega Genesis Collection. Its only $20, and you get some really good games on the collection too. If you have a chance, check it out, cause its worth it.
A short RPG? Sounds impossible...
Then you haven't played Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, then. 15 hours on a first run through is embarassingly short.
And concerning Mario RPGs, things actually started to improve over time (if Super Paper Mario is taken out of the equation). If you liked Paper Mario, then consider this to be a more primitive concept, so to speak. If you're on for buying it, make sure you don't expect it to be the best game ever.
@Terranigma: What made you think that the next Hanabi Festival would clash with Brawl? Like I said in a prior thread, Nintendo CAN'T throw all their eggs into one basket - it's not a good business strategy, plus how the Hell are we supposed to juggle about 3-6 games at once?
I always like to search every post for mention of Earthbound. It's always there. EARTHBOUND!
@Rexy Hey, Super Paper Mario isn't bad, just not an RPG! But we could use a true Paper Mario 3...
I'm not saying Super Paper Mario was bad - it came bundled with my Wii after all. But like you said, it was way too different in comparison to the other titles in the series to be worth a placement into a Mario RPG comparison debate.
super paper mario was horrible compared to paper mario 64 and the thousand year door, seriously.
my girlfriends mom (around christmas time) asked me what she should get her, cuz she suggested super paper mario, but i was like eh no way, get paper mario 64 on VC for 10 bucks, and dont blow 50 on super paper mario, ITS AWFUL
While SPM is indeed a pale experience, it's actually a decent choice if you want to get someone into videogames. And it worked wonders for most of my kid cousins, apparently. Mario 64 might be the better game out of the two, I wholesomely agree, but it's not to be considered a starter in this day and age in the event that someone may misunderstand the graphics power involved.
I for one think that Super Mario RPG is better than Paper Mario, however, Thousand Year Door blows them both away in story and epic-ness. Personally, I think that Japan got an excellent week and they had it coming though. In the end though, we'll all get this title, Super Mario RPG will be globally released EVENTUALLY, just patience is a virtue to some, not to others.
I kinda liked Super Paper Mario ... It's made me laugh out loud at times. Never played Mario RPG though but then again i don't like 'pure' RPGs
It's times like this I wish I knew what the heck NoA was thinking as far as the release sched. for VC games is concerned. :
Ah, well... All my Wii Points belong to SMRPG and EarthBound... whenever they come... IF they come.
Of all the mario rpgs my favorite was Paper Mario: The Thousand year door! Paper mario n64 was quite fun but awfully simple, and super paper mario strayed away from alot of role playing elements. with the vc and gamecube backwards compatibility you can own the entire paper mario series! And if you want (and if it ever comes out) you can get the game that started it all smrpg
Hey a Terranigma fan. I just finished kicking Dark Gaia's butt yesterday. I go through the game from time to time and it's as good now as ever.
As for Mario RPG, I'd bet that the US and Europe will be seeing this game before too long. I keep hearing it's not far away. It would be a great addition to the VC.
What i said came out wrong. i meant that we might not have to wait until another Hanabi festival for Super Mario RPG as i heard rumours that it will be out on Friday.
I see what you're saying with all this, but it all depends on the source of the rumor to begin with. If it was a rabid fanboy spreading gossip on Wikipedia, then no, it shouldn't be taken seriously (anyone can make false facts on there these days). I could still trust it if it came from a valid news source of some description.
But like you, yes, I will have Brawl to keep myself occupied. What's even more fruity is that I've never played a Smash Bros game before, so I hope it all goes down well
I wonder how many more Neo Geo and sub par NES release Mondays North America will have to endure before scoring this great game. Also, we really should be getting Rondo of Blood sometime soon as well. I'm sure both Nintendo AND Konami know how much we want that game... please get it out soon. ^^'
What's wrong with Neo Geo? Play some Metal Slug and see if that changes your mind on the system
@Rexy
Didn't mean to say that there was anything wrong with Neo Geo games, and to be clear, I do have and enjoy me some Metal Slug. It's just there hasn't been a lot of variety on the North American VC lately. Mario RPG and Dracula X would be, without a doubt, two of the best ways to break the monotony in my opinion
Yeah. I don't like Super Paper Mario either. I gave up during the space level because it was just too boring and I hate pointless wandering about.
@Rapidash: Variety can be an issue, but we have to take it on board. As far as I'm concerned, Sony and Microsoft seem to be doing worse with what they're offering through their online services so we have to be lucky we are offered something like this to begin with.
I don't want a repeat of the 200-post bickerfest last week concerning Mario RPG, but I do agree that Dracula X would do some good and we could go even better if PC Engine support is added and we'd see the true version of the game, translated or not. But as usual, Nintendo won't listen to us, because we're geeks and otaku
how come japan gets everything good before us? ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!
Err, Rexy, the PC Engine is already on VC. You know it was also called TurboGrafx-16/Turbografx, I hope. And we've already had imports for it, both card and CD games.
how come japan gets everything good before us? ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!
Not always. When I see "coming this month in Japan" topics, I see some games that we got ages ago on those lists.
japan is so damn lucky , I just hope kirby dreamland 3 make it way soon.
Isn't the Hanabi Festival annual? If so, and if SMRPG is going to be reserved for a Hanabi Festival, then methinks Europe won't be seeing it for a LONG time yet, =S
I hope I'm wrong, XD
Sorry Drake, I thought the two "names" were completely different systems altogether. Thanks for the heads up.
I considered SPM to be one of the best, if not THE best, Wii games Ive ever played.
The PC Engine is better known as "the system you buy when you're tired of spending $300 on a used TurboDuo that doesn't last longer than a month before it craters and you have to start the process all over again!"
Im hoping Super Mario rpg to be released here soon as i am intrested in it .
I ended up deleted more than what i needed for the Nintendo channel so i should be ready for it .
And i thought hanabi festival was only for Japanese relesed games only .
Am also hopefull that next years Hanabi festival going to incluce Neo Nectaris sequel of the orignal Nectaris aka Military Madness one of the best games on Virtual Console
"how come japan gets everything good before us? ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!"
It's their games. Be happy you're getting them in the first place - we Europeans are still waiting to get the game for the first time ever.
Argggghhh. Oh well. NOA isn't that retarded to make us wait for SM RPG that much longer.
At least it is coming out. I don't really care about a wait though, seeing that Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out tomorrow... Finally! Plus, I would rather see an RPG like Chrono Trigger, or Secret of Mana come to the VC sooner.
This is great News for Mario RPG but what is the Hanabi Festival? didn't we have this when Mario the lost levels came out??? I just hope this is heading our way to the VC, Soon. This recent release in Japan is good news for us all but I just hope the big N doesn't forget us again.
Well, this week in Japan has at least got me excited for next week! Maybe we'll get some good titles as well
Im halfway through this game on super nes (I just got princess peach as a party member) this game is great. P.S. Any got any tips on how to get more frog coins. lol
How many hours of gameplay does SMRPG have? Excluding any side-quests.
Btw: If Fire Emblem DS isn't too different they could use that translation for the VC import as well
The point of DS versions is so VC versions won't come out. Nintenod would rather you spend $30 than <$10. Super Mario 64 is likely to be an exception due to it seemingly being out of print on the DS and being one of the landmark N64 games.
Anyway as a big Fire Emblem player I can say this clearly. I feel the first 3 games have aged pretty badly. All feel slow and clunky but the first one is ridiculously unbalanced and has uneven difficulty, the second has some required level grinding in places (and its structure being more like Shining Force allows for it) and the 3rd is decent but its still slow and clunky (for example you cannot skip any dialogue...).
How many hours of gameplay does SMRPG have? Excluding any side-quests.
The side quests (all 3 of them if i'm remembering correctly) add 30 minutes to the game.
Depends on what RPGs you've previously played. If you're new to the grene it'll probably be 10-15 hours. If you try to find all the secrets (the frog coins...though I remember a few of them you only have one chance to get and you won't get it unless you know you need to get it ) and do the challenging things like 100 super jumps (think paper marios power bounce...only the timing changes as you go on and you don't have any real indication) it could be more. I'd say expect 10 hours as a conservative estimate.
Any got any tips on how to get more frog coins. lol
They tend to be well hidden. Usually hard to find or reach treasure boxes have them in.
Who needs SMRPG. We've already got Dig Dug, what more do we need.

"Who needs SMRPG. We've already got Dig Dug, what more do we need."
You can have garbage like Dig Dug, I'd rather haver SMRPG.
If Dig Dug was my only game. I would shoot myself in the face.
but dig-dug is fun when you have unlimited lives and a friend playing with you that you can pop .
anyway, i just noticed on the box in the picture that SMRPG has a K-A rating, the only other game I know that has that rating is Super Mario 64
hurray for Mario 64 and Mario RPG!
oh and one thing about the side quests, if you miss the first hidden treasure box in the first room of mushroom castle (by jumping on toad and jumping on the door), reset the game. there's no other way to get the box.
You can have garbage like Dig Dug
Dig Dug is NOT garbage. Sure, it's no epic by any means but just a simple arcade game that should work for periodic breaks in real life. And as the person states above, like most games of the era, it can be more fun playing with a friend
But let's save the Dig Dug mentioning for its own game thread, thank you.
Aww man, I can't wait for SMRPG! It's not as great as most of the other RPGs of the time were, but it's still awesome!
@ Pj: The Hanabi Festival is a special period whereby games that were originally only ever released in Japan are released overseas for the Virtual Console. I believe it's annual, although I could be wrong.
I'm pretty sure that SMRPG won't be reserved for a Hanabi Festival, as it was released outside of Japan.
(Is downloading Pokémon Puzzle League as we speak.)
:3
See you in a month!
It can be. At the last Hanabi festival, Colums 3 was among the lineup if I'm not mistaken, and that at least got a release in America.
It can be. At the last Hanabi festival, Colums 3 was among the lineup if I'm not mistaken, and that at least got a release in America.
Not to mention in the first festival we got the US version of Ninja Gaiden rather than the EU version (Shaodw Warriors).
anyway, i just noticed on the box in the picture that SMRPG has a K-A rating, the only other game I know that has that rating is Super Mario 64
K-A is a retired ESRB rating. E is pretty much the same thing and makes more sense (Kids-Adult implies its not for Adults I supposr with E is for Everyone).
Wantwantwantwantwantwantwantwantwantwant!
@: Danieru Lynx Thanks for answering that question.
So there are rumours that Mario RPG is heading for VC this Friday??? I'd Love to be a fly on the wall at NoE, just to know for sure!!! It would make my day if we get it Friday, if not Im going to play Paper Mario-64!
Gradius 3 was also released in Europe during the festival and that was released in Japan and North America.
@Storm101: That's an awesome Ganondorf avatar.
It should be coming soon need more wii points!.
Balloons! I hope that Super Mario RPG comes to NA soon. And it costs 900 points so then I could wipe out my Wii points =P.
@ Pj: It's not so much a rumour as it is a possibility. Seeing as how the game has been rated by Australia's OFLC, coupled with the fact that most of Europe's and Australia's Virtual Console releases are synchronised due to the fact that we're both PAL regions, it could be released for the European Virtual Console at any time. Taking into account the fact that Nintendo seem to be alternating between WiiWare releases and Virtual Console releases for the European Virtual Console, if SMRPG doesn't appear tomorrow then methinks the next possibility won't be until two weeks from tomorrow, and so on.
Judging by the fact that the game's OFLC rating was issued so soon after we received confirmation that it would be released for the Japanese Virtual Console, I'd like to think that this will therefore mean that it will be released for the European Virtual Console just as soon after its Japanese Virtual Console release, which would imply a release date of tomorrow.
However, all of the above is merely educated (or at least I like to think so, lol) speculation. None of it is confirmed in any way, shape, or form.
I bought 2000 Wii Points yesterday. I spent 1000 of them on Pokémon Puzzle League, and am saving the other 1000 for SMRPG.
Fingers crossed for all you crazy Britons out there! I'll be seeing y'all in just under 24 hours when we'll all either be here sulking about how SMRPG wasn't released, or not here and therefore not commenting because we'll either be playing SMRPG or consoling ourselves by playing Brawl instead, XD
(Or, for those of you who are inclined in such a way, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift!)
@ Danieru Lynx- i a g r e e
BTW, is there a Club Nintendo thingie for the Wii console itself? And if so, how many Star Points do you get?
I'm annoyed because the box for my Wii has disappeared all of a sudden and so I wanna' make sure that I'm not missing out on some massive stash of Star Points, XD
@ x.SuperMario.x: Do I detect one making fun of the frequent emboldening of what I say? XD
@ Danieru Lynx- Not at all.
I hope Europe gets SMRPG tomorrow though, because North America will likely follow.
10 hours is rather short.
Whether it comes or not, I won't sulk because I have Brawl - true, that WILL of course be the better game
And to everyone that wants it to come tomorrow, be prepared to be disappointed - you guys are expecting things to happen way too quickly, and like I said, it'll be a bad business strategy if they release a highly anticipated Wii title and a highly anticipated VC title at the same time.
If we all got the game basically within the same week, that would be awesome. Still not holding my breath though.
I would love for it to come tomorrow but i won't get too excited as I get the feeling we won't get this "anticipated" game till around September. Besides quite a lot of Nintendo games on the DS and Wii out tomorrow for us Europeans anyway (Brawl, Okami, Ninja Guiden, Final Fantasy etc).
I can't afford Brawl this week. Debts came up in the last minute (not literally) so I have to wait another week.
"I can't afford Brawl this week. Debts came up in the last minute (not literally) so I have to wait another week."
Probably just as well, there's a chance it won't work if you've had your Wii for a while, due to it being a dual-layer game and the Wii lens possibly being a little dirty.
@slangman: Okami is already out, I guess since 13th June.
I guess we get the two C64 games that were rated by the USK this Friday.
@Cipher: How long would you call "a while" anyway? I've had my Wii for 8 months and the lens hasn't failed me yet.
I am going to be up until 12am tonight just to see what we get... It would be so good to get this game tonight as I won't be getting Brawl just yet. I'd love to see the head line on this site "Europe Finally gets Mario RPG after a 12 year wait" It's been mentioned that we're in line for Mario All Stars, I am hoping for it but not yet- I still hope we get Pilot Wings and Mario kart (Snes) for the VC some day... Fingers are crossed about SMRPG tonight!!!! Please.
@ Rexy: Just because you're right, it doesn't mean that we want to believe you, XD
What's funny is that when midnight arrives and it doesn't appear, everyone's gonna' be like 'Well, I wasn't expecting it to appear anyway', XD
I know what you're saying, but the problem is that people are so impatient around here, and it's driving me up the wall week after week. If it doesn't happen tonight, then I'd be so proud to be among the first people to say "I told you so"
Blimey the hype surrounding Mario RPG is quite intense, it might be more exciting than actually down loading it from the VC tonight, if it of course happens. Then we've got to wait another two weeks!!! and then it will become full circle because there will be more hype then too. I think Nintendo should read our comments and think very carefully about putting it on there tonight but then again....... Roll on 12am we're get our answer, I won't believe it until I see it for myself.........
That's the thing though - "Hype". If Nintendo are REALLY wanting to build it up, then they could at least have a date set in stone so that we can get it all over with. I'm sick of going through all the unusual releases week after week and see people leave Nintendo completely, just because their so-called "godly video game" didn't arrive on the VC when they wanted it the most. This mainly applies for people crying out for this AND Earthbound, and as much as I would love to play the latter, I still hate to see people being so arrogant about the state of VC releases.
In an ideal world, beggars can't be choosers. So it's by no surprise that Nintendo could do the same - people won't shut up about one game, so they might not offer it at all. This may be me being a pessimistic kind of person, but they have to learn that they don't always get what they want, and continuously crying about it is not going to help either. They just need to learn to be a bit more humble concerning the state of affairs.
Super Mario RPG is tha shiznat! I played that game all the time in 5th or 6th grade. By far, its one of the best Mario games around. I've been longing to replay this game ever since the existence of the Virtual Console. I hope it comes to America this Monday.
@ Pj: Personally, as much of a shame as it will be if it doesn't appear tonight, I won't be too devastated, as I've arranged to meet a friend of mine at Gamestation at 8 in the morning to pick up Brawl and marathon it the entire day, XD
Speaking of which, I believe Rexy made the point regarding the timing. SMRPG and Brawl are both capable of pulling a huge crowd, yet releasing them both on the same day would divide potential buyers between the two, and so each will only sell half as much as they potentially could.
... at least, I think that works, XD
Anywho, it's not as though I want to ruin the high spirits or anything. After all, it's pretty damn obvious that I'd be incredibly happy if it were to appear tonight.
Ah well, only seven hours to go...
On a mathematical standpoint I wouldn't call it "half as much", but somehow it could at least cause less stock shortages for once XD
But anyway, even though I wouldn't get it, I wouldn't mind finally seeing SMRPG out just so I can finally get away from the constant waves of fanboys screaming for it week after week (read the few posts above). Yet, as proven, it will be illtimed if it clashes with another big Wii release of sorts. Somehow, the Nintendo branches of Europe and Australia are sounding more fickle with how they do stuff around here
@ Daniero Lynx and @ Rexy What does XD Mean?
The reason I am hoping Mario RPG comes to the VC is that it never came out here in Europe before, so I've never played it. I don't mind what games we get tonight, next week or the week after as long as Nintendo gives us our VC fix!!! I do agree there could be a divide if Mario RPG and Brawl do come out at once but we did get Mario 3 (Nes) when Mario Galaxy came out so it could well happen. If we don't get that Mario game tonight, it'll be nice to get a Mega-drive title for once!!
No offence Rexy but what game would you like to see tonight??? and do you have any games that are on your want list? (Post some of them on here!) Roll on 12am!!!!!!!!!
we did get Mario 3 (Nes) when Mario Galaxy came out
No we didn't. Records showed that we received Mario Galaxy a week AFTER the VC release of Mario 3 (with Australia actually receiving it 3 weeks later). Think of the hassle it would have caused if both were released in the same week - if I was in that boat, I would have equally been torn.
Concerning the state of the release schedule, I just want to be informed of what comes around. Ideally I'd like to look into Earthbound, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Majora's Mask, Phantasy Star 4, Bio Miracle and the like but I won't be disappointed if they don't come right away - I'm prepared for the unexpected, plus my main dream isn't to embrace the arrival of a VC title but rather the day when I finally get a job.
And "XD" is what I see as a smiley representation for a jokey laugh. Someone else might provide better input on what it actually is though ^^;
I just want to be informed of what comes around.
This may be me being a pessimistic kind of person, but they have to learn that they don't always get what they want.
XD
And what's so funny about taking interest in something different, or a game that you haven't played in a while? I play games to have fun, not to become a fanboy over one or two sectors in particular.
I don't even get your last post? Who said anything about becoming a fanboy?
You said you wanted something in one post, and in other you told people they don't always get what they want.
I just pointed it out, but your lack of a sense of humor turned it into an insult...
You are right in saying it was a misinterpretation of the quote. I'm just one of those people that get agitated at the use of fan service in gaming, that's all. o.O
I merely said that I "wanted to be informed", not continuously screaming for anything in particular like 93% of the site (lol, overexaggeration, but you get the idea). I already get that by visiting this place often enough for my VC quick-fix, and if there's something that catches my eye through the weekly (bi-weekly now?) releases, then there we go.
I think Nintendo needs to forget about all this Super Mario RPG foolishness and give the people what they really want.................... Superman 64.
@ Andrew- I completely agree. I don't know why they're keeping it away from us.
It's only a matter of time before the people will begin to revolt...
@Andrew :LOL
SMRPG Is a really good game (not the best) I played it many years ago and i really want to do it again, the true is that if the game is released in VC (EU or US) sadly the waves of fans screaming for games (like rexy said) is not gonna end since there are many games waiting to be released (agree with rexy list), but... what we are gonna do.
btw. i want Demons Crest
I think we should petition for Superman 64, give these people something really big to whine about. You think Dig Dug is terrible? You think that the movie The Happening was awful? Superman 64 is like a scared movie/game mixed into one, and if you download it...you just wasted 1000 points (if they release it at 1000 points, they're having a laugh).
And said games, I want Zombies Ate My Neighbors, it's hilarious.
Re: XD
It's just a laughing face on its side. Although I don't keep strictly to it, I rank it above 'lol' (although, to be honest, I'm very rarely actually laughing when I use either).
I'm concerned, what with all the 'fanboy' hate going around, that I'm being categorised as such, ^^;;
For the record, I'll quite happily survive if SMRPG doesn't appear. I hope, I don't expect. After all, as I've stated a little further up, and as should be common knowledge for all Britons here, I'll have Brawl to console me, :3
Regardless of what shows up, thar be 4 hours and 36 minutes to go (as, according to Wikipedia, the Wii Shop Channel is updated at 1am during DST, which I believe it currently is).
EDIT - BTW, out of interest, what with there being many British people here, do any of you just so happen to live in the North West? No-one on the Internet seems to, >.>
... mentioning the time made me think of Majora's Mask. I love Majora's Mask. I may indulge in a few hours, <3
@Danieru Lynx: Anyone who loves Majora's Mask is a good person in my book.
But as fun as swimming around as Zora Link was in Majora's Mask, it pales in comparison to the unbridled joy of flying through countless rings in Metropolis while wearing superhero tights.
I'm in the North West. I live in Cheshire.
Same here, specifically Lancashire.
@NintendoBrad: I'll see your Shaq-Fu and raise you Home Improvement for the SNES.
@ Rexy: Now that is a surprise, as I also reside in Lancashire, =O
Mind if I ask whereabouts?
@ Andrew: Ah-hah! Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends pour la SNES. That's basically a royal straight, =D
I don't really want to give too much away. All that I can state is that I'm a good 10 minute drive from Blackburn, but this is starting to get a little too personal to go further o_o*
@Danieru Lynx: Too rich for my blood...
@ Rexy: Haha! Apologies. Meant nothing by it. I live in Lancaster, and seem to be the only person on the Internet who lives within a million miles of it, so I tend to become rather intrigued when I discover someone who lives even remotely close. Pay me no heed.
Anyway, back on-topic...
2 hours and 28 minutes, :3
No hard feelings. I just wanted to watch out for stalkers
I hope we get five games again tonight. I can live with that every two weeks. It would be pretty crap if we get no games one week and three or less the next. Unlike Nintendo, I count Virtual Console and WiiWare releases separate.
you guys can get whatever the hell you want, just as long as it ain't mario rpg
i will destroy my wii if europe gets it before us
Considering SMRPG is rated in Europe, and not in America, Europe will undoubtedly get the game before us. So get your sledge hammer ready.
Besides, if Europe gets the game today, then maybe we'll get it next week.
@JODIsBack - Whoo. An incentive for me to hope even more that we get SMRPG before the Americans do. Except for WiiWare and WiiWare only weeks, Nintendo of Europe has been pretty good to us lately. Come on SMRPG!
^Umm, most VC games released in the U.S. aren't even rated until weeks after they're released. Plus, it WAS rated, just taken down. I've always believed that the original ESRB rating was taken down because someone did not want the game to be leaked, and I was partly right because now they're saying they're trying to crack down on things like that.
What's wrong with us getting SMRPG before the US anyway? Take into account the fact that it was released in America twelve years ago, whereas it was never released in Europe. We didn't even get a taste...
Yeah, it doesn't matter who gets it first - as long as we finally end up in a calm state of mind together at least two weeks after the revelation. You guys can indeed be passionate about all things Mario, but I wasn't expecting the meter to go THIS far ^^;
I think we'll get it this coming week in celebration of our freedom. crosses 1 finger
@ Storm101- Woah, just chill.
I still think the game is going to be released in Europe before America. The ESRB rating being taken down, and the OFLC rating only helps support my thinking.
Either way, I'm not going to destroy my Wii if Europe gets the game first, I don't see what the big deal is.
Some Americans are just ignorant.
Yeah, watch this be a repeat of Earthbound or Smash Bros. 64 in that we get ourselves convinced we'll get the game we want only for our hopes to get dashed when we see whats actually released.
But you have to think why that ESRB rating was taken down in the first place.
Oh well, we'll see what happens in a hour or two. I'm hoping it follows in Paper Mario's footsteps. If it does, it will come to Europe in 2 hours and then Monday for NA.
The Smash Bros. Dojo site has gotten me rather pumped for Brawl now, so I can survive without SMRPG for the time being.
... would still like it though.
ESRB rating was taken down because America will never get SMRPG.
@ JODIsBack- It's true, destroy your Wii right now.
Hahah destroy your wii because the game you want didnt come out. VC has taken us back to being 5! People would pay for that even!!
20 Minutes left and then we will have the answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ PJ- Is it really only 20 minutes? I thought it was an hour and 20 minutes..
I have to be awake at 6am too... why the Hell am I still awake? XD
EDIT - Aye, it's an hour and seventeen minutes. New releases are at 1am during DST.
what? when did this happen? they were at midnight until and including last week.
We get our games at 12 am the rest of Europe is 1.00am BSM (British Summer Time)
So what games did you get in Australia guys?
Oh. Thats okay then. I don't really want to wait until 1am.
If that's the case, then Wikipedia lies. Lies! LIES!
Naughty Wikipedia. And to think, we've been through so much together...
Ah well, means I can get an extra hour of sleep. Six hours for the win!
@ Danieru Lynx No Im sorry I think you're right! Hay enjoy Brawl!
I'm still Looking at 12:00 am
I dont think ours are out yet... i'll just check.
Yeah nothing so far, our releases are either tied in with yours, or 3 hours away (midday).
*checks WiiWare*
Nothing on WiiWare either. Could this be a week where we get nothing at all!? NOOOO!!!!
Perhaps they're just late.... its unlike them but its possible.
ahh. there we go. five games again but no super mario rpg of course.
No SMRPG I'm afraid. Five games were released:
Super Fantasy Zone (SEGA Mega Drive)
Summer Games 2 (Commodore 64)
Pac-Attack (Super Nintendo)
KING OF THE MONSTERS (NEOGEO)
Cybernoid (Commodore 64)
Not arsed about any of them, XD
Ah well, time for a bath, bed, five or so hours of sleep, and then a Brawl-fest, <3
aww man... thats not exciting at all...
@ JODIsBack- Looks like your Wii gets to live a couple more weeks.
That sucks though, I haven't even heard of most of those games.
Funnily enough, I used to own Pac-Attack, =O
It's quite fun, although the music is excrutiating. However, when you were losing it played the can-can, XD
Nothing worth bothering with. I know some people will like Cybernoid and Super Fantasy Zone but they're not for me.
I used to have Pac-Attack on the GBA. The first few stages are fun but it can get really difficult to clear unwanted blocks out of the way in later stages.
@ Daniero Lynx the games did come out at 12:00am...
After 154 or 155 Posts its all over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Until Next Week?
I reckon we should see what America gets on Monday
5 Games again is better than none.
technically, we got five games over two weeks. so its nothing special really.
its like a slap in the face from nintendo!! all smash your wii's in protest!!! WAAAAAAA
@ timp29- surely its not the first time you've been slapped in the face by Nintendo.
I've been slapped in the face by Nintendo ever since the early nineties. All it did was made me lose brand loyalty.
No Mario for you,guys.
lol i slapped nintendo in the face by never buying a gamecube... the rest of my life ive had no problems with nintendo.
Although, the only thing that bothers me is no C64 in australia.
Every one here in the UK and Europe will be buying Brawl today I think but I'm happier to sit down with Lego Indiana Jones. Is there going to be this amount of excitement in two weeks? I hope not to be honest I reckon when we're not looking Nintendo will one day give us Mario RPG. As long as we do, we should be OK. Then again if America get Mario RPG before September I'll get one on import. VC still rocks but not this week.
@ timp29 I thought you guys got 5 games this week??? What did you get instead and do you guys have the C64 Channel in Australia? I've heard if you switch your Wii to UK settings then you can get C64 games, is that seriously true?
If that's the case, then Wikipedia lies. Lies! LIES!
See, that's why you should never trust Wikipedia. Anyone can edit it and make false info. It's ok to cite information from it, but as long as said info was cited somewhere else as well, that's feasible; just that vandals like to spoil the fun for everyone. ¬.¬
Uh Rexy, it is NOT okay to site from Wikipedia, for the exact reason you just said - because you can't trust it.
And just because Europe doesn't get it, doesn't mean the US won't. I mean Nintendo hates Europe, that's been established for years.
But 10 to 1 says we end up getting something like Boy and his Blob, Elmo's ABCs and 123s and some weird croquet wiiware game.
@XCWarrior
>>"But 10 to 1 says we end up getting something like Boy and his Blob, Elmo's ABCs and 123s and some weird croquet wiiware game."
Maybe Bubble-Pop Special Edition for double the Wii Points!
:/
"But 10 to 1 says we end up getting something like Boy and his Blob, Elmo's ABCs and 123s and some weird croquet wiiware game."
Hey, how can you have Donkey Kong Jr. Math and not that, though? How am I going to learn my ABCs?!
"I've heard if you switch your Wii to UK settings then you can get C64 games, is that seriously true?"
It's true, however doing so will permanently nuke all VC points and VC game licenses from your Wii, so it's not a particularly good idea to do so.
Uh Rexy, it is NOT okay to site from Wikipedia, for the exact reason you just said - because you can't trust it.
Yes, but I clearly stated that stuff on a Wikipedia article itself that had in turn been cited for can at least be seen as feasible information. Most articles have a "references" section for a reason.
Wow. Japan got two excellent RPGs at once, and a plethora of other stuff . . . did I just count eight releases at once?
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO ACTUALLY WANTS SUPER MARIO RPG?! NOONE ELSE EXCEPT ME SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT IT! Seriously, all the time I've been on this website I haven't seen a single member say they want Mario RPG on the VC. Very strange. I seem to be the odd one out here. I am weird for being the only person who wants this game?
Lucky Japs. Hopefully America will get SMRPG soon, since everyone else seems to be getting it. It's one of the games I want from VC real bad.
::insert joke about turning Japanese::
Living in Northeast of England : Eaglescliffe/Stockton area.
Also, Nintendo will release Super Mario RPG in Europe shortly, they'll probably do it on July 4th just to spite American's.
@Junichi: You're sarcasm is not appreciated. I mean really, there is no one on this website who DOESN'T want the game.
It's just dawned on me... playing SMRPG for the Virtual Console is going to be a pain in the ass. Remember the problems people had with Super Mario World? Holding the 'Run' button throughout most of the game is what (I should think) most people do because Mario's walking speed is sluggish, and a lot of the jumps in the game require the added speed. If you're using a GameCube controller, the 'Run' button is X, and the 'Jump' button is B, which is very inconvenient. The same buttons are used for Super Mario RPG. Ergo, regardless of when the game decides to grace non-Japanese shores with its presence (and, indeed, this applies to the Japanese too), it's going to be a royal pain to control.
Does the Classic Controller have a more favourable layout? If so, then I may have to invest in one... at least I have plenty of time, as I'm no longer expecting this game to appear at any point in the near-future, lol.
EDIT - Never mind. I just checked Wikipedia for a picture of the Classic Controller, and its button layout is exactly the same as that of the controller for the SNES, meaning that I definitely need to invest in one in time for SMRPG, :3
As much as I want it, based on how the news of its Virtual Console debut was announced, it was either going to be released very quickly (as said news was released very quickly) or very slowly (thereby rendering it in-league with the legions of other games that were rated ages ago and yet to this day have still not been released). It wasn't released quickly, as we all know, and so I'm not expecting it for at least a couple of months. I sense a September release, as a sort of 'Hey! For those of you who're depressed at the prospect of returning to school/College/University, here's Super Mario RPG to raise your spirits!' release. Luckily for me, I no longer go to College, and have no plans to go to University as of right now, so I'll have all the time in the world in which to marathon it, >:3
It's too bad they don't have options for configuring the controller. The "run" and "jump" buttons for, say, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World are different and (after all these years of figuring out obvious conveniences like this) there's no option to change the default configurations outside the occasional game that let you in the first place (like Super Metroid).
Another VC fact that's just like . . . why . . . ?
@cally; it could be worse. Like trying to play Super Mario World on a Gamecube controller. I have one Classic, two Nunchucks, three Wiimotes, and several third-party GC controllers.
I confess - I illegally downloaded this game a few months ago, but aside from watching the demo (I didn't have a good universal game controller handy at atm), I have never attempted playing it b/c if I did play it, then when it is released and I download it, I'd have to start a new save file on my Wii, which would most likely spoil my appetite for SMPRG, because it wouldn't be a "fresh" experience.
@StrarDust
The GC controller thing blows my mind.
Dude #1: "How should we handle SNES games with a GC controller?"
Dude #2: "Easy: just map A to A, B to B, X to X, Y to Y and not even give the player the option to change it!"
Dude #3: "Well, the GC's face buttons are actually positioned completely differently-" <gets shot by Dudes 1 and 2>
(yes, I bought a Classic controller)
Well, it's Thursday night, only an hour and 45 minutes to go before this week's Virtual Console release, and this time it will actually be a Virtual Console release and not a WiiWare release. It's not as though today is particularly special, but there's always a tiny chance that SMRPG will appear. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, as there's no need for it, but you never know.
I'm not trying to epichype it or anything like what happened two weeks ago, I just thought that it was worth mentioning.
i have a question wat is a hanabi????????????
