Re: Nightdive Studios Wants To Remaster Titles Like Eternal Darkness, But Hasn't Had Any Luck With Nintendo

Ventilator

@Wexter Nintendo hired a unknown developer (Straight Right) in Australia to remaster Zelda games for Wii U, which of course will be ported to Switch at some point.
Nintendo even allowed Indies to use their IP's. Nintendo isn't as strict as they used to be. They loosened up when Wii U launched.

I guess the developers of the Steamworld games didn't get greenlight from Nintendo to remake the legendary "Ice Climber" from 1985 either since it must be 2 years since they mentioned it.

Re: Nightdive Studios Wants To Remaster Titles Like Eternal Darkness, But Hasn't Had Any Luck With Nintendo

Ventilator

@Mgalens Yeah. Nightdive isn't just upscaling a game cheaply and call it a day. They fix things everywhere in these games and is why it takes time between each remaster.
On top of it they have to add new settings for modern systems.

In fact i think Nightdive is the #1 existing remaster people for very old games.
They know exactly what to do without ruining the games.

Re: Nightdive Studios Wants To Remaster Titles Like Eternal Darkness, But Hasn't Had Any Luck With Nintendo

Ventilator

@GrailUK I agree. Someone here called Nightdive a random nobody, and yet all their remasters of famous old games were praised.

Games that only ran at like 15 FPS on N64, ran at 60 FPS when remastered when Nightdive were done with them. The blurry graphics were also fixed.

The still N64 Exclusive Turok 3 should have had an upgrade too, but probably harder to get the assets than the 2 first which were also on PC.

@SakuraHaruka I used to play some games back when Gameloft made complete games with Gamepad support around 10 years ago, until Gameloft became greedy. Later i played a bunch of games on NVIDIA Shield TV.
One of the flagship games for Shield TV is Shadowgun Legends, but the developer became greedy like most others.
Rally Challenge 3 is a complete game on phone and natively supports Shield TV, Gamepad etc. The game were also ported to Switch. Ratrod Games in Canada used to make great sports games with Gamepad support and enhanced versions for Shield TV (1080p/60) . In fact their Android Snowboard games were better than console snowboard games for years.
They sadly don't make much new games anymore.
Phone games is best on Shield TV as they are all 1080p/60 with Gamepad support. Games from Vertical Unit still supports Gamepad. There is some left.

The games on phone were generally better 10 years ago than they are today.

Those GTA games is dead old, even on Android.
Neither Rockstar, UBI, EA, Activision etc. cares about releasing newer games on phone. None of them really liked any handheld.

My Wii U Stats.

#1 Splinter Cell Blacklist (89 Hours)
#2 Super Mario Maker (66 Hours)
#3 Mass Effect 3 (49 Hours)
"Devil's Third - Online" should be high too.

I bet no one would expect a top 3 like this.
Majority of time on Splinter Cell and ME 3 were online co-op.

Splinter Cell Blacklist Wii U (89 Hours)
Splinter Cell Blacklist PC (Probably around 100 hours)
Splinter Cell Blacklist Xbox 360 (Probably around 100 hours)
Splinter Cell Blacklist PS3 (Probably around 100 hours)

I 100% Blacklist on 4 systems online and offline.

3DS:

#1 Zelda - A Link between two worlds
#2 Lego City Undercover
#3 Resident Evil Revelations

Re: There's A Flight Simulator Game Coming To The Nintendo Switch

@SakuraHaruka Phone market always had a bad reputation, and is why no one releases AAA Games on phones.
Second reason. Touch screen isn't suitable for most games even when Android supported Gamepad since the start.
Xbox One Gamepads even have native Android support in firmware.

Borderlands, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Revegance, Resident Evil 5 and some exist on Android, but they are exclusive to NVIDIA Shield TV and won't run on any phone.
NVIDIA themselves did the Android ports and they were designed so they can't run on any phone.

Mortal Kombat on phone is such a waste. Does not support Gamepads.

Anyways. Candy Crush killed the phone market.

@CarlosM87 Headhunter were great. Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia and lots of other games were great. Quality over quantity of games like on N64. Crazy Taxi were best on Dreamcast. Something looks wrong on all ports. It's like those versions is too dark. In 1990's, same game on different GPU brands didn't always have exact same colors. Probably why.
There will never be a new Dreamcast in console market.

I remember Dreamcast also ran PS1 games better than PS1, so Sony sued Bleem to get rid of it from sale. Just shows the power of Dreamcast.
During same time PC, could emulate N64 full speed.

Deck can even run Forza Horizon 5 at lower settings, but still looks good because of the smaller screen.
No one have tried Flight Simulator 2020 and Halo Infinite on it so far.
There isn't many newer PC games that won't work on it.
Deck is actually also a Xbox handheld, since as good as all Xbox games on PC runs on it.

As for game genres. PC probably have like 1000 +/- games in any genre. There is no genres missing on PC like on consoles.
Scorn have a release date of 22 October 2022 if it's not getting delayed. Will probably run on Deck too.
I'm curious if it's possible to use finger on touch screen as a mouse in RTS Games on it.

Re: Nintendo's Huge Switch Sale Begins, More Than 1,000 Games Discounted

Ventilator

@CarlosM87 Thanks. Specs never mass sold a console ever. Specific exclusive games did usually.

If specs mattered, Atari Lynx for example would outsell Gameboy 1990. N64 would outsell PS1. Xbox+Gamecube would outsell PS2. 360 and PS3 sold less than Wii. Switch outsold Xbox One by far, and will probably outsell PS4 too. It's only 6 millions behind.

Steam Deck have no exclusives to sell it. To be fair there is 1000's of older games on Steam which doesn't exist on any console, but they won't sell Deck.
As i mentioned, it will have a life because it runs PC games natively. It's also mainly aimed at people who already own lots of games on Steam as Gaben said. That means me too.

Aya Neo and OneXplorer is too expensive for mass market, because they are made in limited amount and isn't sold many places.
Aya Neo will have the credit for being the first powerful PC handheld, paving the way for a new handheld market.

Aya Neo were the first console for me with WOW factor since Dreamcast launched in 1998 (Japan). Dreamcast were a huge leap over N64 and PS1 during their prime time.
To me, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U etc. is Dreamcast on steroids. Dreamcast is what started modern consoles we still have today in my opinion. Just look at Soul Calibur 1, NFL ??? and some of the other major games on it.

Re: Nintendo's Huge Switch Sale Begins, More Than 1,000 Games Discounted

Ventilator

@CarlosM87 Yeah. In fact neither Sony or Nintendo is thinking big, because they are so obsessed with closed eco systems which decreases the market size a lot.
Switch were the most powerful handheld while it lasted.

Steam Deck is a portable gaming PC. Unlike consoles, PC is timeless and have no generations as specs is different on every PC unless it's pre-built.
Steam Deck itself won't get sales nowhere close to Switch, but it sure is welcome. I will buy Deck or a clone of it, but it isn't a Switch replacement for several reasons.

Since Deck is a PC, it doesn't have a set lifespan like consoles do. PC handhelds is here to stay. Lenovo and Asus is probably already working on their own versions.
The problem with Deck is that it's only available in a few countries. Lenovo and Asus is selling globally.
Anyway. Valve hope Deck sells a few millions, but it's lucky if it ever reaches 10 millions.

Steam Deck still probably affects how they make next Nintendo console if it's also a portable. "Switch 2" will for sure be compared with PC Handhelds and it can hurt some of the sales if it have lower specs than Deck.

BTW: A Top game on Switch i didn't own is 90% off. "Inside". From same dev as Limbo.
I own it on PC, but bought it on Switch as it's a great portable game.

Re: Wii Sports Is Reborn As 'Nintendo Switch Sports'

Ventilator

@Nintendo_Thumb Ahh. I thought everything went offline.
They should preserve the levels, but someone already did that.
I read somewhere that all levels exist offline, but you need a modded Wii U to play them.

Yeah, these Mario Maker games already have more levels than you will ever play. I like Mario platformers, but i forgot to play them on Switch. On Wii U i played a lot.

Since i made a bunch of levels on Wii U, isn't it clear that i knew what i were buying?.
Doesn't look like you read my whole post before replying as it clearly stated i knew what Maker was..

I made different kind of levels. Titanic, Bruce Lee Remake, Bomb Jack Remake etc.

Re: Nintendo's Huge Switch Sale Begins, More Than 1,000 Games Discounted

Ventilator

@CarlosM87 Yeah. I wonder how long Nintendo will last with their 1990's thinking and old hardware.
Sony isn't much better and they are not even considered a Xbox competitor anymore according to Microsoft themselves.
Both Nintendo and Sony is left behind. Must be a Japanese thing.
Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta and Tencent is the top 5 Microsoft competitors.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Finally Getting DLC

Ventilator

@johnvboy I know. I also pre-ordered "Toad's Crazy Taxi".
bundlet since it's the only Toad game since Treasure Tracker.

While i were at it, i spent a bit extra pocket change for the Thrustmaster T500RS Racing system which the game supports.
It only added 50000$ on top of 60$ for the game.

Re: Wii Sports Is Reborn As 'Nintendo Switch Sports'

Ventilator

@Nintendo_Thumb They could have allowed you to download your own Wii U levels at least and modify them for MM 2.

When they shutted down MM 1 server on Wii U, i recorded all my own levels with Elgato first.
I also downloaded all event levels which had new characters.
Then i did a backup of everything on Wii U to HDD on PC, so i can't lose any of my levels and event levels.

As for Mario Maker 2. I barely touched it ever since i bought it over 2 years ago. I bought the Switch Stylus too, but still never made a level.

Re: Wii Sports Is Reborn As 'Nintendo Switch Sports'

Ventilator

@Nintendo_Thumb Yeah. Wii U did at least get loads of top exclusives, and many third parties did a good effort on the touch pad. Wii U also had much more features than Switch.

It were stupid to not transfer the Mario Maker levels to Switch version.
When Sony closed the Little Big Planet 1+2 servers, they transfered millions of levels to LBP 3 on PS3/PS4.
Kinda of weird since Sony don't care much if they can't charge money for it, but they did.

Anyway. GameCube were also called a baby console because of the purple color and the handle.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Finally Getting DLC

Ventilator

@HotGoomba Mario Kart 9. R.I.P.
I wonder if it were a early april fools joke when they confirmed MK 9, since they are gonna release MK 8 tracks until 2023.

People always wanted more MK 8 DLC, so 48 new tracks should be enough.
First 2 DLC packs released on Wii U.

Re: Don't Say It Too Loud, But PS5 Has Outsold Wii U In A Year

Ventilator

@WallyWest Yeah. My PC is more powerful than PS5 and Series X, so there is no way i'm getting PS5 as it would be a downgrade. I play all possible games at 165hz.
100% of Xbox games is also for PC, so no reason to own Series X either.
I own PS4 too, so i will buy the new games when they are cheap enough later. I also own Xbox One X.

As for exclusive games. Mario Kart usually sells to over 50% of Nintendo console owners. Even on Wii U.
Attach rate will never be the same on PS4 and Xbox One exclusives.

Anyway. PC and Switch is my main gaming systems.

Re: Don't Say It Too Loud, But PS5 Has Outsold Wii U In A Year

Ventilator

@abdias Yeah. People buy PS5 because of the brand and not the games. Since majority only play third party games, they could have played them on any system.
It's known that most 1st party games on Sony consoles don't sell well.
This is why Sony are porting a lot of them to PC so they can get back more of the development costs. Sony even said this themselves multiple times. Cost is too high on PS alone vs sales.
