Re: Review: Color Commando (DSiWare)

The great thing about really short, but really fun games are their replay value. You can easily play them over and over again and have a blast every time!

This is true for a lot of old-school video games like Sonic R. Short game, but I enjoy playing it over and over again because how fun it is for me. Or think of other games like Super Mario Land, Gain Ground, the original Sonic games. sometimes, those games can take a while to beat at first, because of difficulty, but the more you beat it, the better you get at it. Like the original Super Mario Bros. It was a short game, but the best part was the experience of struggling through it those first 20-something tries, and then finally coming out in successful triumph! After that, the game becomes a permanent part of your memories in gaming, and if you enjoyed it, then you keep coming back to it over and over again for more good times.

So while video games may be short, it's the experience that counts, and if it was that great of an experience, then you'll keep coming back for more! That's what's so awesome about short and sweet video games! They're probably my favorite, to be outright honest.

Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

Toms_Den

I've always said that the problem isn't found in the games, the system, or whatever else Nintendo seems to spit out, but IT'S FOUND IN THE COMPANY'S OWN IMAGE. There's no respect anywhere for Nintendo anymore, and this is sad considering they used to be the King of Games. I've heard of taking risks, but Nintendo, it's time to pull back a bit here. Remember that the casual gamers aren't a safe market to bet on...

I think it would be great for Nintendo to really go all-out with advertising for their systems, and I really want them to show others why Nintendo's consoles are simply the best, and why consumers should be buying them instead of the competitions'. There are many reasons, but seriously: Nintendo's systems really shouldn't be the laughing stock of the bunch right now.

Of course, Wii U also needs more games, but rise in popularity and the upcoming E3 would take care of that.

I'm sure that Nintendo knows much better than I, the consumer, does with these kinds of things. I'm positive I only know a small fraction of the facts behind making a console succeed and all that stuff, but the guy in this letter really nailed it here, and I don't care whether or not Nintendo may know "more facts", this guy is right on.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo DS Lite

Toms_Den

I liked the original DS model simply for the nostalgia. Just seeing one of those things running Super Mario 64 DS...love it!

I think the DS Lite was a big step up, though. DSi: fantastic system, but I still think the DS Lite was better. I mean, GBA beats low-res cameras and an eShop any day. And you can't play GUitar Hero on DSi

Hmm...I don't see why Namco always rereleases the weaker ports of their arcade games, instead of the original arcade games! I mean, why play Pac-Man in black & white, or even with NES limitations, when you could play the original arcade version? Why not just port that?

Re: Criterion Lavishes Nintendo and Wii U With Praise

I love graphics too, but he's totally right. It's not about graphics when it comes to gaming consoles, it's about the gameplay. I think about all the fun times I've had on all Nintendo's systems, and I've always had more fun on those systems than on any others. Yes, NES was limited, but the games were simply fantastic! SNES wasn't CD-Rom based, and neither was N64, for that matter, but the latter was a fantastic party system, and lots of fun, while SNES was simply brilliant. GameCube couldn't play DVDs, it had terrible online and the discs may have not been able to hold as much data as PS2 and Xbox, but looking back, EVERYONE I know LOVES that system, and wishes that Nintendo would go back to doing it, instead of their current "gimmicks and innovation" style, which has become MUCH more popular than the GameCube.

You know what guys, I think that all we have to do is stop complaining, and stop focusing on what Nintendo's systems DON'T do. We need to focus on what they actually DO, and I find that unlike many other video game companies, they're trying to bring us excellent games, new ways to enjoy them, and at an excellent price. When everyone says that "Nintendo is always to behind and their tech always sucks" that's not true, because I think that Wii U and 3DS are powerful in their own special way. Wii U has to power an entire TABLET along with a tiny little console, while 3DS (With the 3D on) has to power 3 screens all at once! If you want the best graphics and the best tech, go buy a PC, for goodness sakes! Stop trolling the gaming company that's actually putting out tons of great content onto tons of great systems.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai: Stories in Video Games Can be "Irksome"

Toms_Den

@TheCrimsonSquid Even if you are just kidnapping a princess, it doesn't make much difference. There's a difference between using the same story concepts over and over again and actually doing the same story the same way over and over again. For example, the story in all of the New Super Mario Bros. games are pretty lame, but the story for Super Mario Galaxy was very enjoyable, even if it was just rescuing a princess, it had a bit more to it.

In my opinion, some games benefit from story and some don't. New Super Mario Bros. has a lame story, but so what? The point is, it's not really supposed to, however, I think if they came up with a new way of telling the story, or even a new story for that series, it would give it a much needed boost in interest. the original Marios were cool because you were on an all out quest throughout a massive kingdom to rescue the princess from the evil clutches of Bowser. It was an adventure! Now it's a meme. Spruce it up a bit, Nintendo!

Re: Talking Point: This Fan's Tragic Tale Highlights The Problem With Nintendo's Approach To Download Purchases

Toms_Den

Doesn't matter to me, I would've gotten in touch with Nintendo, because I'm just worried about stuff like that. I mean, I probably would've known better, since I've read lots about Wii U. Feel bad for Jon.

But seriously, I wish I could put all Wii game saves on an SD card so I could play them on other Wii consoles. Also, I wish I could play WiiWare and Virtual Console games that I own on another system via SD card. But it doesn't let me, because it all has to be tied to one system. In the Wii's case, I don't mind too much because I usually just bring the Wii itself to a friend's house, because it's so small that I actually can. I wish it still had the handle on it like the GameCube...lol

Re: Developer States That Wii U Woes Were a Focus At DICE

Toms_Den

The Wii U is certainly not lacking games, creativity, or any of that sort. Nintendo just doesn't have a very good image right now. Many gamers who had the Wii felt burned by Nintendo, and found a new cozy home with Xbox and PlayStation. Basically, everyone in the game market, consumers, developers, and publishers alike, are just not willing to take the risk with Nintendo, so Nintendo's gotta come out and really show gamers a thing or two about gaming with Wii U!

Wii U looks like a fantastic game system, and Nintendo surely has what it takes to make a fantastic next-gen console. I like to think of Wii U as a cross-over between GameCube and Wii: It's revolutionary, new, cool, and it includes lots of great new features like the Wii, and will have many fantastic-quality games a la GCN. I think Nintendo just has to try and get gamers hearts back, because I think that we all know that Nintendo truly is the king of the games industry, and that they've got the right idea, but the true problem here is that everyone is so blinded by their past mistakes and by the other game consoles out there. Nintendo, if anyone can turn things around, it's Nintendo!

Re: New ZombiU Hardware Bundle Shuffling Towards North America

Toms_Den

Also, in order for SEGA to finally start selling big on the Genesis, they had to pack in Sonic 1, and eventually Sonic 2, so I think Nintendo is getting the right idea. Pack in Super Mario or Zelda: WW HD in a Wii U bundle...yeah, they are packing-in some super software sellers, but they'll sell a crap-load of Wii U systems!
