Re: Soapbox: All I Want From Mario Kart 8's DLC Is More Tracks Like Baby Park

ThePirateCaptain

Baby Park is one of the worst tracks in the series. Mario Kart has always had an element of luck to it but Baby Park removes almost all of the driving skill from the equation. It worked somewhat in Double Dash because of the unique item mechanics, but modern games also have more racers on the track adding to the chaos. It’s fine as a one-off novelty, but we definitely don’t need more tracks like it.

Re: Feature: 5 Accessibility Features That Every Game Should Have

ThePirateCaptain

For me, button mapping and other control options are the only accessibility options that really matter. Nintendo is really the worst culprit when it comes to this because certain games like Super Mario Party or The World Ends With You force certain control schemes that make it virtually impossible for me to play. I beat Demon Souls on PS3 without any accessibility options so I’m not asking for a lot here.

Re: Feature: Inside The World Of Pokémon ROM Hacks

ThePirateCaptain

I can’t believe it’s 2019 and some people are still upset about rom hacks. It’s amazing what fans can do and how talented some of them are. If you really think the presence of these games negatively affects the sales of mainline Pokemon games then I don’t know what to say.

If you’re upset about this, I can’t imagine what you’d think of the Super Mario World hacking scene. Some of those creations put Mario Maker to shame.

EDIT: @Ralizah
I’d say around 99% of these rom hacks and fan games don’t get pulled by Nintendo. It’s only the stuff that gets a lot of attention like Prism or AM2R that receive C&D’s.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

ThePirateCaptain

I think scores are only valid coming from the same person. With large websites you have multiple writers with different tastes and opinions. The same game could have two wildly different scores depending on the writer so there’s a lack of consistency. If all reviews come from the same person you can at least get an idea of their preferences and how they compare to your own.
