Re: Silicon Knights Working on "Most Requested Title" for Next Gen

TheGreenSpiny

I think Dennis Dyak is delusional again and he means Too Human 2. (Remember it's part of a EPIC trilogy!)

This one's up to Nintendo whether or not they make another one. They could surprise us with a Wii U game, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Personally, if they did make it, I'd love to see Wii Remote plus and nunchuk support.

Re: Feature: Fun and Frights on Nintendo - Part 2

TheGreenSpiny

That RE4 cover is sweet. Why did we get the crappy one in NA?

Eternal Darkness is one of the best horror games ever made. Man I wished they'd made a sequel for the Wii. Wii motion plus and IR controls would have been awesome in that game. Maybe for Wii U? Make it happen Nintendo!

Re: Iwata: We Want 3DS Sales to Show Consoles are Here to Stay

TheGreenSpiny

@25 Glade: We don't love him for being Mario, we love him for the awesome games. Every franchise gets stretched, just ask Activision and EA. If Nintendo put out their core franchises as often as they do, I'd be sick of him too.

None of those games that EA or Activision put out were any good to begin with.

Re: Iwata: We Want 3DS Sales to Show Consoles are Here to Stay

TheGreenSpiny

I think what Nintendo understands is how much the casual market has an effect on the games business. If you go back to the original Gameboy, I'm sure there was a lot of adults that bought one just for Tetris. Those same adults will never touch a 3DS when they can buy Tetris on their smartphone these days. Just like the people who bought Wiis for Wii Sports then when out and bought Wii Fit, Just Dance, ect. I'm sure a lot of those same people bought Brawl, Mario Kart or NSMBW. There's a big reason those titles sold gazzilions. With Nintendo having this cross generational appeal allows them a greater success. They are more losing out on the general consumer. There are a lot more casual gamers out there than people realize. Gaming has become just another form of entertainment to a lot of folks in the same way that listening to music, watching TV and movies are. They'll buy a Playstation and the latest CoD & Madden every year. They are not going to buy a 3DS (or Vita) unless is has exclusive must play games or mind blowing features not seen elsewhere.

Re: Feature: Fun and Frights on Nintendo - Part 1

TheGreenSpiny

@4 Ren: Yeah I liked Shattered Memories, but it was too damn short and at times too boring. It needed some combat to spice up the action. That and the story was full of plot holes.

How was Dead Space not scary? I loved the psych-out moments, they reminded me of Eternal Darkness.

Re: Three Brand New Zelda Skyward Sword Trailers

TheGreenSpiny

@21 opeter: Zelda is a bit like God of War, but it's not so linear. While God of War has you moving from A to B, Zelda has you exploring a huge world. In the world you'll find dungeons that play out very similarly to the Pandora's Temple level of GoW. The dungeons are the main sections of the game where you find a new item/weapon, and have some boss to kill. However unlike GoW, Nintendo has yet to ruin it's boss fights with quick time events.

GoW does place a much higher emphasis on action, and fighting your enemies.

Re: First Impressions: Mighty Switch Force

TheGreenSpiny

After recently picking up Aliens: Infestation and Shantae Risky's Revenge, I can say I most certainly get this one. Of course I still need to pick up the other Mighty games, and some of their retail releases as well.

Re: Skyward Sword Nearly Had Button Combat Controls

TheGreenSpiny

@8 Haywired: Have you even played a Wii before? Of course motion controls are immersive, that's the whole point. I don't see how pressing a button rapidly to kill someone in Manhunt 2 would be more immersive than flailing you remote as if you were really beating someone to death. Likewise, the controls in Red Steel 2 made that game. Of course the fighting system in the game was top notch (it's kind of like playing Soul Calibur in 1st person), but without the motion controls it would have been pretty boring. Mad World would be terrible on a standard controller also. It would probably use some over cluttered button configuration instead of the elegant controls that the Wii remote afforded it. It feels not as if Mad World was specifically designed with motions in mind but specifically made for the Wii Remote. All the best games should be designed around a consoles specific controller. Of course that doesn't matter if your console is sporting a generic dual analog pad.

@13 meta-rift: I agree with you there, the less you think about controls the more immersive the experience. I don't recall many motion based games that I had to think about the controls. Using most dual stick pads I have to stop look and think about what the controls are. I can't stand the diamond button configuration that has become standard since the SNES days, never can tell the damn buttons apart half the time. Same with old dual shock shoulder buttons. Unintuitive control set-ups can be just as bad as "broken" controls.

Re: Feature: Staff Memories of the Resident Evil Series

TheGreenSpiny

@11 Slapshot: I think you missed the point here. This is not a shooter, it's survival-horror. The whole point is push your panic buttons by testing your fight or flight response. That's the reason you can't run and shoot in RE games. Take that away and you end up with a pretty generic shooter.

Re: Feature: Resident Evil's Most Nightmare-Inducing Moments

TheGreenSpiny

@33: Yeah those damn dogs got me twice. I first played the REmake back in the cube days, when they don't attack you the first time they enter the room. Then I played Deadly Silence some years later, when the bastards attack you the first time you enter the room. I was searching for the ammo that was under the table in the REmake version and was not expecting the dogs to come crashing through the windows. Brilliant!

Re: Feature: Staff Memories of the Resident Evil Series

TheGreenSpiny

Man, the REmake was fantastic game. By far the scariest gaming experience I've ever had. I never realized just how awesome that game was until I played the original game on the DS and that managed to scare me. Capcom was brilliant in how they remixed the REmake for people who had played the original version.

@Chris Ingram: Not sure what you mean by control limitations. The Wii edition play exactly the same except for the pointer controls. (Don't get me wrong the pointer controls are 10x more accurate, but still...

@Phil Reed: I loved your analysis of Lisa Trevor, probably the most horrific part of that game (or at least the Trevor family in general. Poor George!) I loved her boss fights in the Umbrella Chronicals. The way she regenerates her health super fast makes her impossible to kill if you run out of ammo. Wesker's snide comments about her were brilliant too.

Re: Resident Evil Revelations Comes Loaded with Multiplayer

TheGreenSpiny

@17: I hope you are not talking about Mercs because that is far from worthless.

@18: Capcom already said that you can delete your save files in this game.

@19: Only RE 5 had co-op, unless you count some of the spin offs.

Anyway I didn't think I could get more excited about this game. I just hope it's not completely co-op dependent like 5 was.

Re: Review: Horizon Riders (WiiWare)

TheGreenSpiny

@link79: Okay now you are pissing me off. The whole point of video games is interactivity. If the balance board can you used for a better more interactive way, why not use it? My only complaint is that this game seems too late to the party. I got rid of my balance board a long time ago, and because the standard controls are so bad I won't be buying it.

As far a the DK Bongos go... You've clearly never played DK's Jungle Beat, which was a suburb platformer that controlled with the bongos. I wasn't convinced that the bongo's would function as an adaquate controller till I got the game a christmas gift and played it for myself. The bongos actually made the experience in that game. Seriously gamers need to spend less time whining and more time playing.

Re: Feature: Remembering the Super Game Boy

TheGreenSpiny

@link79: I agree that Nintendo should include these things, can't be that hard to write some extra emulator code for them or something. I never owned the super gameboy but some of those old carts (like Metroid 2) will play in color on my GBA.

I'm sure these games would sell quite a few more copies if they included the enhancements.

This thing seems so awesome, what the hell happened to the company that put out such cool stuff as this?

Re: EA Pledges "Key Franchises" to Wii U

TheGreenSpiny

Key franchises my . EA doesn't have any key franchises. The only franchises I'd like to see from them are Dead Space and Mirror's Edge, and maybe Mass Effect. It would be great if they sold those as a collection, and only if they supported the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.

Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Regularly Offer Free Games for Download?

TheGreenSpiny

Having sales would definatly benefit the eShop. Another thing Nintendo could do is give away free apps. Not games like Four Swords, but like the Mario Clock or the Mario Calculator. This can't be that expensive to make and would get people to log on and check out the shop.

Yeah, it seems rediculous that game on the eShop cost tens times as much as iOS.

@True Wii master: Yeah, they should have a WiiWare greatest hits line. A lot of those games sell cheaper elseware (World of Goo) and should have dropped in price by now.

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th October 2011 (North America)

TheGreenSpiny

Do people actually like pool games? I love playing billiards for real but playing it in video game form seems so pointless. Where's the fun in that?

Horizon Riders looks cool though. Too bad my TV crapped out on me and I can't play my Wii at the moment. Hope the demo sticks around.

Re: Ubisoft: "Nobody Proved Wii Does FPS Controls Better"

TheGreenSpiny

What a moron... Doesn't he realize he's knocking his own game? Red Steel 2 was one of the most fantastic gaming experiences I've ever had. The developers deserved more credit for that game as they practically invented their own genre.

@Samholy: Mouse and keyboard may be the most accurate, but certainly not the best. The precision of the mouse if offset by the crapped awkwardness of using a keyboard. Customization is not that big of a deal with a control pad because you don't have to stop and look at the buttons. Most Wii FPS offer a wide degree of customization anyway. The Conduit 1 & 2 allow you customize everything from the button layout the sensitivities of both the pointer and the gyro as well as the HUD. The increased accuracy of the Wii remote makes it a far better choice than the Dual Shock, which hasn't really improved much since the PS1 days. And not all of us are looking for an online experience. I prefer all of my games single player and that goes for shooters. Online play is noobs who don't realize what a real game is.

@The_Fox: How is vastly improved accuracy a gimmick?

And people: please look up the meaning of that word before you use it in a sentence.
