Sources close to SEGA have revealed to Nintendo Life that a follow-up to SEGA's House of the Dead: Overkill is well under way and should be released sometime early or mid-2011.
Details on the game are still undisclosed, but what we've been told is that a title codenamed "House of the Dead: Overkill 2" is being worked on, which we assume is for Wii and potentially PSMove. SEGA has neither confirmed nor denied these claims, and our inquiry with the company was met with an expected "no comment on rumours and speculation" reply.
The original f-bomb record-holding title landed with fairly positive reviews, with fans asking SEGA for more from the London-based Headstrong Games. Producer Neil McEwan appeared in an interview on the Nintendo Life Podcast back in Feb '09, saying the team would certainly be interested in doing more with the series if given the green light.
Oh and SEGA, where on earth is House of the Dead 4 for consoles?

Excellent news!
Didn't Headstrong indicate that they were working on it a while back?
It's most likely a PS Move game though.
I hope this is Wii exclusive. Or at the very least ON the Wii at all. I loved the first one so this is great news!
I still haven't got the first one yet but I definetley will at some point. Also, I hope sega release HOTD games on the vca, especially 1 and 4 since 2 and 3 are already on a disc release.
Bring it on! I want another one, yeah! (Also, it no longer holds the record, Mafia II dethroned it.)
My fiancee and I dumped ludicrous hours into the original with the Zapper and Perfect Shot. I would expect this to be another Wii-exclusive, given that the on-rails shooter market is more viable on the Wii where there isn't as stiff of competition from FPS giants.
At any rate, excellent news. If it's headed for the Wii, I'm buying it.
Really!? I bought the last one for a tenner and it lasted me about a day. Wouldn't come back for more, nor did i think anyone else would, from the first one's sales performance.
oh my sweary comment has been deleted - to be fair I thought the site automatically censored posts so I guess everyone censors themselves on here. I'll post it again, with self censorship.
mother ******* yes! I mother ******* ***** ******** **** Wii ******* ***** mother ********* Overkill ******* ***** ****** mother ********* tea cosy ******* *****!
@Oregano, as far as we know this is separate to the PSMove title which is also rumoured. The key thing here is that we heard "2" in the title, which indicated a new title.
Holy ****ing ****, this is some ****ing good news!
Eh, call me pessimistic guys but I can't see them bothering with a Wii game despite the fact that the first game sold decently(did more than 100K in the UK).
Didnt Sega say they're not gonna do anymore "mature" titles for Wii?
I should really get around to playing the first one more ...
This is AWESOME, now all we need is sequel to "MADWORLD" and then the wii will be all set when comes to havin mature titles!!
Really? I played HotD 2 and 3 and thought they were 1 hour each of suckitude. Overkill was way more up my alley.
I wonder if the F-bomb density of Mafia II is also higher than Overkill. It probably is; knowing how short Mafia II is, although it does depend on how much fun you get out of running around doing nothing.
Sweet,
If they fix the few issues with the first game this could be very good.
Issues with the first game include; framerate issues, messed up sound on second player's gun, hard to see the cursors sometimes and especially the second player's cursor, crap shadows, and a few other bits and bobs.
I want to know where House of the Dead is! We got 2 and 3, but they skipped the original. 4 would be nice, too, but If they came out with a House of the Dead 1 and 4 Return, that would be weird. I welcome another Overkill, though
woohoo! Overkill was fun, it just didn't have enough difficulty. Add a difficulty option that really toughens the game up and I'll pay 50....make it like the last one and I'll wait til it's cheap (but I'm sure I'll still enjoy it)
@TheChosen - lol I forgot about that....Mental note--if Sega makes a whiny comment, disregard it.
Awesome, me want.
I didn't like the original game. The dialogue was truly awful and the incessant swearing really got on my nerves. It was just so unnecessary and really not funny and I'm no prude. For me the game itself didn't match up to House of the Dead 2 either.
A lot of people seem to miss the point of the swearing and, surprisingly, even seem to find it offensive. It's all part of the grindhouse movie style - the grainy footage, the over the top violence, the big breasted girl and, of course, the constant swearing.
It's a piss take of the old horror movies of the 70's - the swear words themselves arn't the joke, it's their excessiveness that's funny. This is particularly made clear in the end sequence where G points out that, despite Washington's continuous use of "mother ******", he never actually uses it when the context is correct.
I mean the title pays homage to a style of cinema that disappeared with the 1970s. Maybe many of you arn't old enough to appreciate that, maybe you kids today are too soft, but that's what it's doing rather than "trying to be hardcore". You need the grainy footage, you need the blood, you need the boobs and you need the swearing because if you take the latter out, you may as well take them all out. I guess House of the Dead 2 is fitting for you then.
HotD Overkill was AMAZING. They'd better not f--- up by leaving the sequel off the Wii.
@26 "...you may as well take them all out."
That would be my preference. That way it could have modern graphics (for the Wii) in color with a T rating and might actually be worth playing.
If this is true, then this is ****ing awesome!
Great news, maybe they should also give green light for making
a Virtua Cop Overkill .
Whould love to see the Virtua Cop on Wii, especially since VC3 was
just in Arcades
I still havent gotten the first one for the wii so im going to wait to get this. I should get around to getting the first considering how cheap it is.
makes since that it would come out for move as well as wii
i think if sega were going to do a more arcade style house of the dead, they may aswell move on and just add 5 to the title.
overkill seems to be more of an extention off of the original series, and the sequal should carry the same grind house style to it.
besides, it`s probably going to take alot of effort to push the wii and improve the graphics on overkill. that`s probably why the grind house style worked in it`s favour.
The first one was pretty awesome! Gotta wonder if it will beat the first game in the number of F-bombs it dropped though.
I hate to say it.
But I did like the game, it wasn't a bad rent
This is the best m**rf**n news I've heard all year. I feel like a little foul mouthed kid in a porn-themed candy shop.
HotD:Overkill is the best game on the Wii period. To each their own but I feel sorry if some people don't understand the appeal. Madgear got it spot on with his analysis.
Waveboy did you "actually" play HotD:Overkill? It basically "is" Planet Terror as a light gun shooter. That they took their inspiration from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino is blatantly obvious, everything from the foul mouthed Samuel L Jackson character to the Rodriguez style pistols of the collectors edition, to the busty biker chick, the formula X that infects the zombies. The only way it could be more like Planet Terror if it was called Planet Terror: Overkill and incorporated the plot from the movie.
Nice, I really enjoyed Overkill from what I played of it. It was almost as good as HotD 2.
I should probably pick up Overkill since its pretty cheap now, and a Perfect Shot as well since the Zapper F***ing sucks.
@Neo: Get the collector pack if you can because the HotD:Overkill guns are awesome in my opinion (although I haven't used Perfect Shot).
******* sweet !
I liked the first one, but I hope that this one is even better !
Great news if true since I had a blast with the first one. My brother in law, two cousins of his and I spent a full day playing this game over and over again for hours.
Overkill is a real guilty pleasure for me. Before that the highest age rated game I owned was the Sonic Mega Collection on ps2.
cool but id prefer a MadWorld 2
Here's hoping this will break the world record it previously held...... you know what I'm ****ing talking about!
Overkill remains one of my all time favourite games. I played it to death, but every couple of months it reanimates and I have to do it all over again. The only the only thing I thought needed an overhaul was the easy and simple bosses. Still, such a great game. I really really hope this rumour is true.
