Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Collection is on the way to the West, and here's the box art for the collection when it lands on North American shelves on December 12th.
Containing Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3 on one disc, the package also comes with a soundtrack CD and History of Mario booklet for those who want to brush up on their plumbing knowledge.
The collection made a big impact on the Japanese charts and we'll soon see if it's this Christmas's big seller for North America and Europe.

I can't wait to buy it!
This is coming to Australia on the 2nd of Dec I think it is. Also, they are putting Mario t-shirts on Club Nintendo too. I'll try and find the link, but I got sent it in an email from Nintendo.
EDIT: http://gamesites.nintendo.com.au/super-mario-all-stars-25th-anniversary-edition/en_AU/index.php
Consider a pre-order down for me.
Shame it doesn't come with Super Mario World.
I'd rather pay 800 points for it on the Virtual Console. I doubt I would be interested much in the additions. I have the cartridge already but I don't play my SNES anymore so I've been wanting to play it on my Wii. If this is the only way its being released then I'm getting it, but as cheap as possible (£17.99). It would be fun to play the originals with modern graphics and not just familar 16-bit graphics but thats for another time I guess. I did imagine a 3D version that played the same.
Shame it doesn't come with Super Mario World.
Get it on the VC. Everyone here should have it already. Whats the big deal about it not being present?
Really very beautiful !!!
Shame it doesn't come with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
@2
I also posted it in the forums but still no response from NL...
Truley a thing of beauty. Cannot wait!
@Bass: I'd rather pay 800 points for it on VC aswell, but when I've already bought a technically inferior version of it for a total of 2100 points, I probably wouldn't bother paying an extra 800 on top of it.
However, I will pay $30USD for a limited edition Soundtrack CD and a History of Mario booklet that comes with All-Stars for free. That's the way I'm looking at it
Lost levels? Nice! I knew I was getting this because of the soundtrack and history booklet, but now I have 2/4 games that I havent played (and the other 2 I havent played in 16bit )
Looks delicious. Cannot wait for this collection.
there's now way nintendo are going to get me to buy these games again!
I can't wait for this, the game is £17:99 on the Play.com site which is an excellent price for this great game....
Is anyone buying it for it's Games or for the CD & Booklet?
Ooo shiny
drools at the picture
Very nice box- too bad its content is quite shallow, especially considering the reasoning for this even being brought out...
Don't need to get technical. 1MB means nothing to me. I see 4 good classic games in 16bit for $30. Hoorah!
Looks like a decent package. I too wish they included Super Mario World, as that was the last "classic" side-scroller for Mario before the "New" games.
I wonder if it will still be 4x3, or if there will be 16x9 support.
@Chibi: Since it's retail, I assume it will run at normal speed...but that's just my guess
Wait...it doesn't even come with Super Mario World? Come on. That's insane. Still...it might be worth it just for the save feature on all these games.
I cant wait until this comes out. Its a cheap christmas gift for my brother, and it oozes with quality
Sure is tempting with all those extras. I hope they give the menus a revamp though, instead of having the same hub title screen.
@zss_shadow
I look at it this way:
4 GREAT games, a Soundtrack CD, History of Mario Booklet and a really nice RED BOX with the words "Limited Edition" = Going to get this game on day one. I think it's a steal, to be frank. I was lucky enough to get Metroid Prime Trilogy for $20, a day before it went back up to $50 last Christmas and ultimately went "out of print".
But, I understand what you're saying. Technicality isn't always a great thing to pay attention to things like this, however. I think it's a godsend that Nintendo is selling this. I remember my SNES coming with this game "+ Super Mario World".
Yet, it'd be awesome to see these 4 games remastered in 3D akin to New Super Mario Bros. (or the sexy Mario Galaxy look).
Be grateful folks. We may not see a sweet offer like this in 5 or 10 years...
Beautiful box. Is the Europe box the same?
I'm not quite sure I liked the graphical differences or upgrade....Especially for SMB1 All Stars.
How did you want a 16-bit upgrade to look?
I still have ths original SNES Cartridge, but this might still be a nice piece for the collection. I was still hoping to see maybe a few more games added on this time around though. Still, it's a nice collection of great games!!!!
Maybe I'll buy it for posterity's sake, but I'd rather just play the games off of the VC.
Seriously anyone basing this off of how many megabytes used on the disc are looking up the wrong creek.
Like many have already said, I shall repeat, I can't wait to buy this one! Have it on Amazon Pre-order already!
The GBA remake of SMB2 was much better (giant enemies and items, a new boss, many other miscellaneous improvements), but I suppose I'll have to wait for the 3DS VC to one day set things right.
@16 I'm sure many already have this on wiiware already, perhaps they are getting it for the handsome box and booklet.
i was the first to preorder this at gamestop in my area .
Can't wait!
@38: Have what on Wiiware?
@WaveBoy: Count the colors in the All-stars version. Now count the colors in the NES versions. Notice any differences? Also notice how the music isn't just beeps anymore or how the backgrounds are more detailed in the All-stars version. That's a 16-bit upgrade
This seems like one of those things you buy and don't open and twenty years from now it's gonna be worth a ton. Maybe not, gamers are more educated these days, but I'm considering doing this and seeing what happens. I'll let you know in 2030 what I get for it.
All I can say is, I'll be one of the buyers!!!
Sniff So beautiful..... :')
Ooh, me wants!
:E
Kinda reminds me of this SNES game I have that had all of the Mario games up until that point.
OH MAN
THIS OR DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
(Head Explodes)
@SpriteKing:
Four old games or what looks to be the best platformer of all time? I think that one's a little obvious. XP
@48
Um...
I'm still undecided.
On a slightly unrelated note, why are there two identical images with different captions?
@51 heh heh heh
Anyways, I definitely want to get this. Looks like a good value.
@ 16 I'll be buying it for the game because it's my favourite game, the CD soundtrack is just the icing on the cake for me. Nintendo will sell millions I reckon. I can't wait for this game to come out...
Really looking forward to it! Epic collection.
So beautiful.
I just hope they do something similar to this for Zelda's anniversary. Though they would need more than just the NES ones.
I'm gonna get this package, & if I can't sell it on ebay, I'll still win, as I get to keep it.
I'm a little disapointed that the graphics don't look like New Super Mario Bros.Wii. But all four of those cost 21 bucks to download on the Virtual Console and the're the NES versions. So not only do you get better looking versions but you get a CD and History of Super Mario Bros. Book for 9 bucks more THAT"S EPIC
how exciting i cant wait im gettting it as soon as i can yayayayay and its coming out in australia but im not sure NL realises that even tho i tryed to inform them
Already Pre-Ordered it!!
I wonder if it will be as limited of a release as Metroid Prime Trilogy was? I still can't find MPT for less than $70.
I'm very exited for Mario all*stars wii, I lost my SNES copy in '99, They said my pre-ordered copy won't get here until the week of the 20th, that sucks!
Shame the soundtrack is a little shallow and I was expecting a little more effort.
Like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq5HCOxDE7E
On pre-order
Its a shame it doesnt come with SMW but thats allright ill buy it reguardless. Im not really super exitied to play this considering ive played all the games on there like many other on here. But im looking foward to adding this to my colleciton.
Maybe getting this will motivate me to finally beat SMB 2 i never really cared much about that game.
@SpriteKing: Yeah, with Christmas (and a vaction cruise with my gf) in Dec, I don't have the money for botch DKC Returns AND this Anniversary collection. I am thinking about just sticking with this, because I want to 100% Kirby's Epic Yarn and Metroid: Other M, so that will keep me occupied till Christmas. This collection is just too good to pass up for a huge Mario fan.
What, I can only look? How lame.
I'm also like 'eh whatever'. I mean, I don't want to be all over this because it just seems kinda lazy. Then again compilations can be kinda lazy, so... I'll probably get it, I just won't be all OMG.
Easy money for Nintendo. Keep releasing the same games over and over again and people happily fork over their money.
VC titles $5 . . . Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Collection $30 . . . Seeing it on your shelf, unopened during Mario's 50th Anniversary pricesless.
I got this pre-ordered.
I agree with Chunky Droid, I'm getting it for the Soundtrack and the Booklet, the game is just an add on. It's like getting each for $10. I like art books and soundtrack CDs and most of it sell for more than $30 online after the original release has come and gone.
I ment the color choices and cloud/bush changes, it doesn't just look like a 16-bit upgrade, the setting looks like it's been altered. For example, the ground isn't made of bricks in All Stars
Just so you know, those are good things. Who would want to play a 16-bit upgrade looking completely accurate to the NES games? They weren't bound by the same limitations of the NES. Thankfully.
So getting! I have 2 giftcards, equaling $30, so I'll get it practically for free!
neat, i cant wait to get this
Nintendo should have celebrated Mario by making NEW Super Mario All Stars, with NSMB engine, with Super Mario World INCLUDED and perhaps even with co-op!!! Now the worlds most famoous game character is celebrated with last years present wrapped into new paper. This is almost face palmably shamefull. This FANTASTIC opportunity to celebrate Mario, and the joy of gaming in general, all the while making festive new memorable classic is wasted by shamefull and cheap collection of fares. Very cheap, shame on you Nintendo. (I'm Nintendo fanboy, I do think that Wii is best console this generation, and I know that every publisher acts this cheap. I just think that Nintendo should have done differently, because of Mario, especially as big games are a little thin on Wii)
@Varoennauraa
I feel exactly as you do. Here a cool video to check out:
This is what it should have played like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq5HCOxDE7E
If they were just gonna rewrap the old SNES game they could have at least added in some rarities like Wrecking Crew and Mario Vs. Wario.
Also I read the track list for the soundtrack. HUUGE disappointment!
HOLY COW!!!! Thats more like it!
If even mere hobbyist haxors can make it at their free time with limited tools...I'm becoming speechles here. This wasn't a big issue for me, but now to think of it, this Nintendos impotence of making games right makes me sad and frustrated. Why must everything be so cheap!?!?!?!??
@48 It's the same gift you got christmas 1993 rewrapped.
@Varoennaura
Unlike the haxors, Nintendo has way more resources/computers/money, original developers and a host of other programmers and insanely talented people. If this game was a download it would have made sense. But this is on 4.7GB disc!! What a waste!
If I were at Nintendo I would have treated the fans with a complete revamp. This "25th Anniversary gift" is just the old games we've had for years.
my only wish is that it was the All-Stars+World version, but as it stands i'm just glad to be getting All-Stars at all. I'm also glad they didn't change anything (major, anyway; idk about those 25 boxes and stuff); the original game (playable on my Wii) is what I wanted and what we're getting, so I'm frickin' ecstatic. :3
come to mama Greece coooooooooome
DAY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pre-ordered. I gotta say I love this. I suppose they could have fit even more titles on the disk but I'm not feeling let down. It's relatively cheap and nicely packaged and it will get me to play these great games on a console that I actually always have hooked up.
Cheap for rehashed 8-bit games? Hardly. Nintendo is cashing in big time on this.
Gee, I wonder why Nintendo didn't rehash it.....oh wait, it couldn't be because they're preparing for a new system or anything of that sort
my only wish is that it was the All-Stars+World version,
It would raise the cost of the package and you should have SMW on VC already. so why?
To make it better! To put a reason to make it festive. To celebrate Mario! Just to make it properly! To make it complete! Now 1/4 of original Marios main games is missing! That would have been the least they could have done! How much do you think it would raise the costs just to put one untouched game and correct the menus accordingly? A 500£? How could they ever have done enhanced all stars for SNES then?!?!? So why not Wii? Yeah, I know they could make people want this by marketing it vigorously, thus making it good and using 500£ more into it is vain, but How about making something properly! And as I said earlier, this would have been a good opportunity to make a really stunning new classic megaton monolith and easily the generations best game out of Marios classic games with just a little more effort ,by making the whole package in NSMB engine. Why keeping most of the stuff dirt cheap, even the MARIO!?!? And even in his Super series anniversary!!!!! (I still think that Wii is best console this gen)
Everyone wanted this and now everyone is whining and moaning about this? Just be happy we're even getting something to celebrate the plumber's birthday
Nobody(far less of generalization than saying everyone) wanted this. Everyone had this already.
Some people wanted this while others did not want this.
Wanting people sometimes this others, while did want not this don't. Point maybe mine being sometimes to the aim of the fact that it didn't never won't.
This sounds a bit cheeky but would Nintendo Life buy the Japanese version and run it on a Japanese Wii and then tell us exactly what is on the disc compared to the 1993 SNES Classic? There are a couple of friendly Japanese users on this site would they be happy to shed some light on this? With the SNES version you can save every level and I like the side scrolling choice of the games and the pictures of the oringnal game boxes. I can't wait and I have been couting down the days and weeks for the December release, I will still ask for Donkey Country Kong Returns for Christmas and the two games I see I will be playing will be them.... And not Golden Eye I might get it for the golden controller and the book as I collect the odd guide book. I'd Love a guide book for SMAS it really will be the icing on the cake.
@Bass X0: if you want to get technical, i own all of the games in this collection on VC as well as SMW, so redundancy isn't an issue for me, lol. idk, the +World version is the one i grew up with. there's something nice about having them all in the same cartridge/disc together. I can't see them having raised the price for it considering it was all one one cartridge already (in the US, anyway), but the point is moot -- i just said it was the only thing i'd change about this release. i don't want All-Stars revamped or remade (as mentioned in the comment before the one i had posted before), i just want what I grew up with :3
@Varoennauraa: no, everyone didn't have All-Stars playable on the Wii already. also, by 'everyone', lz is referring to all the threads that have popped up on the forums about All-Stars eventually seeing a Wii-based release. it's not meant to be taken to-the-letter literally, it's just a generalization.
I don't want it, since I have all 4 games already!
@NintenDude97 I do want it, and I already have SMB1, 2, 3, and 1+Duck Hunt for the NES, Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES, Super Mario DX for the GBC, Super Mario Advance 1 and 4, and NES Series: Super Mario Bros. for the GBA, and I’ll still be getting this.
@BDragon
Yes, as I said, I know he generalized, and I did too, but I did less.
I always liked it when Super Mario got a 1UP
I(ts so dumb, you can get all these games easily for free. In fact though most fans loyal enough to buy this already have all 4 original games, and all re-releases on every nintendo console since. Wrap it up however you want, but this is still a blatant cash-in exploiting their true fans.
I own Super Mario all-stars for snes & it seems to me Super Mario all-stars for the wii has even better graphics than the SNES version at least from what I see from the pics here.
I never bothered to get the originals on VC, and now, here's SMA. The funny thing now, is that I want both: I want the originals for their original integrity, but I want the SMA from the Collection because it's also nice to play the classics with updated graphics. Sigh... Oh the joys and woes of being a Mario fan...
I don't want it, since I have all 4 games already!
Just being able to play the games is not the attraction here. What matters is that you can see your favorite familar games in some detailed 16-bit graphics rather than the old limited 8-bit graphics. The new graphics really enhance the old games considerably and its fun to replay them to see how each stage looks.
@Bass X0
1993 called....
They want their review back!
